Description

Get things done! The award-winning Things app helps you plan your day, manage your projects, and make real progress toward your goals.
Best of all, it’s easy to use. Within the hour, you’ll have everything off your mind and neatly organized—from routine tasks to your biggest life goals—and you can start focusing on what matters today.
“Things offers the best combination of design and functionality of any app we tested, with nearly all the features of other power user applications and a delightful interface that never gets in the way of your work.”
—Wirecutter, The New York Times
KEY FEATURES
• Your To-Dos
Your basic building block is the almighty To-Do—each a small step toward a great accomplishment. You can add notes, tag it, schedule it, and break it down into smaller steps.
• Your Projects
Create a Project for any big goal, then add the to-dos to reach it. Use headings to structure your list as you outline your plan. There’s also a place to jot down your notes, and a deadline to keep you on schedule.
• Your Areas
Create an Area for each sphere of your life, such as Work, Family, Finance, and so on. This keeps everything neatly organized, and helps you see the big picture as you set your plans in motion.
• Your Plan
Everything on your schedule is neatly laid out in the Today and Upcoming lists, which show your to-dos and calendar events. Each morning, see what you planned for Today and decide what you want to do. The rest is down to you :)
MORE THINGS TO LOVE
As you dive deeper, you’ll find Things packed with helpful features. Here are just a few:
• Reminders — set a time and Things will remind you.
• Repeaters — automatically repeat to-dos on a schedule you set.
• This Evening — a special place for your evening plans.
• Calendar integration — see your events and to-dos together.
• Tags — categorize your to-dos and quickly filter lists.
• Quick Find — instantly find to-dos or switch between lists.
• Magic Plus — drag the + button to insert to-dos anywhere in a list.
• Share extension — create to-dos with content from other apps.
• Widgets — see lists on your home/lock screens.
• Mail to Things — forward an email to Things; now it’s a to-do.
• And much more!
MADE FOR IPHONE
Things is tailored to the iPhone with deep system integrations as well. A great example is the Share extension, which allows you to create to-dos with content from other apps, such as a link to a website you want to get back to.
You can also enjoy a beautiful dark mode at sunset, connect your calendars, add widgets to your home/lock screens, create to-dos via Siri, import from Reminders—Things can do it all! There’s even Shortcuts integration if you want to automate your workflows.
MADE FOR APPLE WATCH
Things comes with a great app for Apple Watch. Just raise your wrist to glance at your Today list, mark to-dos complete as you go, and dictate new ones on the fly—all synced instantly with your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
AWARD-WINNING DESIGN
Made in Stuttgart, with two Apple Design Awards to its name, Things is a fine example of German engineering: designed not only to look fantastic, but to be perfectly functional as well. Every detail is thoughtfully considered, then polished to perfection.
“It’s like the unicorn of productivity tools: deep enough for serious work, surprisingly easy to use, and gorgeous enough to enjoy staring at.”
—Apple

What's New in Version 3.19.5

• Fixed a bug where, when to-dos were moved into a repeating project, they would keep their existing dates and completion status.
• Fixed a crash that occurred when Things automatically cleaned up empty to-dos at the bottom of a list.
• Fixed some crashes that could occur when updating lists that were not currently displayed.
THINGS 3.19
This update brings support for iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and watchOS 10, including Interactive Widgets and other great improvements.
INTERACTIVE WIDGETS
Things’ widgets are now interactive. This means that you can complete your to-dos right on the Home Screen, without having to open the app:
• Tap a to-do’s checkbox to mark it complete.
• Tap a to-do’s title to reveal it in Things.
WIDGETS EVERYWHERE
Things’ widgets are now available in more places than ever. Once you’ve upgraded to the latest OS versions, you can add them to:
• Your iPad’s Lock Screen.
• Your iPhone’s new StandBy mode, which is activated when the device is on its side and connected to power.
• Your Watch’s new Smart Stack, which is revealed by swiping up from the bottom of the watch face.
APPLE WATCH
We’ve adjusted Things to fit in nicely with the new design of watchOS 10, and modernized the app under-the-hood.

Pretty good, but the annoyances remain

 –
MrSamStrong

Version 3.19.5
Annoyances still remain:
If you accidentally tap or drag the “New Task” button (seems to happen to me a lot) and don’t enter any text, I would expect to be able to tap away and for the task to just not exist. Instead you have to manually delete it.
When you want to set a quick reminder, if you select a time that’s before the time on the current day, then it just ignores you. This is marginally better than when it used to yell at you. But if I want to quickly set a reminder for tomorrow, I need to go into the calendar, pull down, type something vaguely 9 like and then select 9am tomorrow. It’s the most work I’ve ever had to do to use a natural language input. Things should be letting me type once in the task description and detecting stuff like reminder times and deadlines. Please just release Things 4 with these fixes and I’ll happily pay for it.

Absolutely excellent

Version 3.19.5
This app is an excellent example of software craftspersonship in a moment where applications are becoming… less good (Cory Doctorow has a fruitier name for this wider phenomenon).
I find it hard to think what the devs could do to improve this app or the Mac version, as I find the current experience is perfect. Perhaps add widgets for the upcoming calendar elements? Or extend the apps domain to time management areas? (Yes, I manage my calendars with Things, not Apple’s subpar preinstalled and accessibility-unfriendly calendar app).
Please do not ever go for a subscription model, we are happy to pay for robust updates. Cost-benefit analysis: thinking about the value of what improved time management and being on top of things does for your life, this app is an absolute steal.

Version 3.18
Took me a few years to eventually land on things 3 … I have not for one second looked back! One of, if not the best example of great user centric design I have ever used.. Clear, fluid, pleasantly interactive and efficient. Looks really nice as well. Also updates are not too frequent and only happen when for worthwhile improvements .. as they say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
Maintains 5* all the way for me :)

Version 3.17.9
First time I’ve ever written a review for an app. But I felt compelled to write one after struggling with task management apps similar to this one. The design of the app is very clean and easy to use as an uncluttered clean look. Chris on support has been excellent with a few questions.. it’s very reasonably priced. User friendly and intuitive to use. It’s a pleasure to use. Mac version is excellent and phone.

Version 3.17.9
Things app is fundamental to my life. Use it for 2 weeks and you’ll see why. I can remember everything I need to remember and what I need to do. I just wish … one wish … I could stick a photo in the notes. I’m always referencing things and a photographic reference is often essential. So I have to cross-reference to another app. But thank you for making life so darn simple.

Very thoughtfully designed app

Version 3.17.7
I am still wondering and discovering little details everywhere during my usage of this app. Really kudos to the team, I have never seen such carefully designed app. However, I have some feedback: (1) As a first time user, I was confused how all sections worked at first, and still after one week. It might be useful to hide somethings for first time users and then suggest to show them after they get used to the app and according to their usage. (2) It is very useful to show calendar events with todos, but this is not available in widgets. PLEASE ADD IT! It’s super useful and allows me to have the same narrative outside and inside app. Please give me the last point to give you one additional star in return :)

Why can’t I hide the default items in the sidebar (Anytime, Someday) and replace it with something useful like Deadlines? Also widgets looks very basic, just a list of tasks in an unpleasant font.

Version 3.17.2
Actually, despite the title, this app is brilliant. Full stop. It has amped up my productivity no end, and it is so easy and intuitive to use would thoroughly recommend this app to anyone who wants to download the clutter of their brain to a piece of software.
The only drawback, is I wish there was a shortcut to add a “To Do” from the control centre (like there is for Notes). This would make it that much faster to add a reminder that pops into your head on the go :) Great stuff, Things Team!

Good but limited

Version 3.17.2
If you want a really simple task organiser, Things3 is great. Although expensive to use on several devices, it has a lovely clean interface, and syncs really well. It’s actually a pleasure to use.
But … it’s a bit limited, especially if you like to plan ahead.
When I look at my tasks due Tomorrow, they appear in a completely random order that can’t be changed.
Apparently applying a basic sort order (e.g. by project!!) has been logged as a feature request.
But there is no transparency about this — let alone a published development backlog or roadmap.
After enjoying my experience with Things, I’ll be moving on soon to something a lot more flexible. I wish I’d chosen that route in the first place — it would have saved me a lot of time & money.

Version 3.16.2
This does the same thing as every other GTD type task manager, but the thing that made me settle on it after trying countless others was it’s UI. It’s clean, clear and satisfying to use. It may be missing some more advanced features but I am willing to sacrifice that for the user experience. I’m sure many more features will come.

I really hate it when a perfectly good app like Things gets enhancements that break existing functionality. I’ve never had a problem with syncing Things tasks between my Mac, iPhone and Apple Watch. Now that syncing just doesn’t work consistently and previous Siri commands either no longer work or again do not sync properly across all my devices. Highly disappointing.

I really do love Things 3, I have it for Mac and iPhone and use everyday. It has been too long since there’s been any significant feature upgrades now, would be great if you shared your roadmap.
The ability to upload images/files would be super helpful.
The ability to forward iMessages into the app in the same way as spark emails can be.
Location based reminders would be a helpful.
A calendar view with time blocking feature would be helpful. (I like that ical inputs pull through) but would be good to see Things inputs alongside iCal inputs on a Things calendar view.
Moving the move, tag and time/date buttons to the top would save having to scroll to the bottom of a long entry that has been forwarded from email. This is a frustrating UX experience.
Please give us a clue on what’s being worked on, I’m sure it would result in more sales.

Version 3.15.11
I love this app and have been using it for a couple of years, religiously every day.
It’s easy to use, quick to use, and a joy to use. It enables me to organise my life and work, and ensure I don’t forget anything I need to do, nor spend all day organising it.
My only suggestions are two-fold:
1) swipe down from Today to lead into Upcoming, so I can see what’s next
2) I’m not going to lie, it’s expensive. I have it for iPhone and iPad (and you have to pay twice) but I haven’t quite stomached the money to get the Mac version yet. That said, you only pay once, no subscription required, so it works out as good value in the long run.
I probably will eventually purchase the Mac app for my new MacBook Pro as it is that good!

Version 3.15.9
I bought the product expecting it to simultaneously install on my iPad, but no, the iPhone version only works on the phone and the iPad version is double the price. 🙄. I’m not sure if you need one license per device either.
Next when I imported my calendar, and made a correction on the original calendar, the correction did not trickle through.
Finally, I note that had I paid extra for the iPad version, synchjng isn’t via iCloud, but their own cloud and so I’ll worried about data security.
To summarise, a disappointing app that I’ve uninstalled and asked for a refund that’s been denied by the developer so now I’ve approached Apple.
Beware.

As there is a separate app for iPad; shouldnt there be a function to add written notes & handwriting-recognition?

I tried Things3 a couple of years ago and asked for a refund as it was lacking a few essential functionalities such as natural language, shared lists, etc. So I went to Todoist and later TickTick.
Couple of years later, tried it again and SHOCKED to find nothing seems to have changed. The AppStore blurb still calls it all new except it’s been “all new” for a few years now. Aside from that, still no natural language entry, still no shared lists, no integrations, etc.
I’m summary, nice UI still (if a little dated) but far far away from the features of competitors such as Todoist and TickTick.
Oh and the whole buying separate apps for different devices is bizarre. I mean I get that it’s a one-time cost but given there has been very little development over the years, I’d happily pay a subscription if it means the team and afford to remain up to date.

Hopefully it will work better on the second attempt

I’ve used them all over the years: Notational Velocity & nvAlt, Vesper, Clear, Evernote… the last few years I’ve been running Apple Notes & Reminders, but a friend recommended I try Things, and it’s been absolutely everything I’ve ever wanted in a to do app, while having a nigh-on perfect, logical UI.
The way the app structures the todos also maps directly to how my brain likes it. It makes so much sense!
I bought on iOS and my Mac and it’s the best money I’ve ever spent on an app. 💯% thoroughly recommend!
Keep up the great work, devs 💪🏻

Version 3.13.16
This is a bit of a meh app. Looks nice, but functionality is lacking. Tag implementation is woeful as it has been from the days of Things 2. No smart lists or saved searches, which is the biggest let down. Add to that no ability to prioritise your tasks (no, a star is not prioritisation) makes this the hardest task manager to manage your tasks. If you don't work by areas a huge chunk of organisation is lost and it's not easy to repurpose. As nice as it looks, I find it hard work to narrow things down and to organise the way that works for me. CulturedCode have one way of managing tasks. If you're not happy doing it their way then you won't like this inflexible app.

Version 3.13.13
I LOVE this app. I love how easy it is to use, that I can send myself reminders and log them by project if I see something online, the magic plus button, the tags! I could go on! I’ve only been using it for a day and have already transferred my entire life to it! The only issue I can find is that I can’t add a security pin/code to unlock it, would like that to be added in case I lose my phone or for when my daughter pinches it. Other than that - wonderful!

Version 3.13.11
Things is expensive, for sure, but it’s worth the price. It’s easy to understand and use, there’s no functionality bloat, and the simple, elegant design makes it a pleasure to work with. I wanted a task list app to help me remember ideas and get things done, not nag me and make me anxious – and Things is perfect for that. It’s helpful but never overbearing. It fits intuitively into my work, rather than adding an extra headache or complicated system to memorise. Many thanks to the designers and developers.

Version 3.13.8
I have used Things for years for work and personal and its excellent - reliable and with Things 3, very flexible. It could do with even more flexibility and options however - shame that functionality of flags has been downgraded for the sake of a “ cleaner” look - you can no longer display the actual flag so you can’t see for example a flag denoting “ very urgent” at a glance - you know there’s a flag but you have to go into the actual entry to find out its “ very urgent”. It could also do with a system of sub headings in my view. Overall - 8/10

Version 3.13.6
Probably the single most useful app on my phone. Has revolutionised the way I keep track of what I need do in all categories of my life. It might take time to get yourself organised into the app so it works best for you, but now that I have, I am so much more productive because I have planned exactly what I need to do for the day, by setting the date and time with reminder. If I don’t get it done that day, I push it on to another date. Please can the developers add an option to keep an item in a list, even though it has been checked as done?

Version 3.13.6
I’ve used Things for well over 10 years. I think it’s as close to a perfect app as you can get. Its sync is lightening fast between apps. Its core concepts are clear and easy to understand; simple and powerful but without feeling like a glorified front end for a spreadsheet (compare with Omni Focus). It’s user interface is genuinely lovely, it’s just a delight to use. Best of all it’s very actively developed and just feels like a first class, modern, iOS app.

Version 3.12.8
This is my most used app across my devices, helping manage projects, to-dos and generally organising my work life. The streamlined interface and simple design really allow your tasks to be front and centre.
There are some things that I’d love to see come to future versions of the app:
- the ability to add headings within areas, just like you can in projects. This would be really useful to separate out tasks within areas that don’t fall in to a specific project
- expand the ‘Today’ and ‘This Evening’ feature so include ‘This Morning’ and ‘This Afternoon’. This would help to better layout a day of tasks
- finally, the ability to create templates for projects. I have several projects that occur regularly, and while I have a template set up, this exists as just another project in the app. It would be great to have a separate menu or filter to store these templates
I can’t fault the app, these are ideas that could take it even further

Version 3.12.1
Really like this app and my experience is very consistent with all the glowing reviews. I have been using Wunderlist for years and never figured why they never charged me for using the app. Anyway, they have sold to Microsoft so was in search of something similar that could sync between my iPhone and Mac (not too worried about iPad or iWatch). Downloaded free trial version to Mac and was SO impressed....suspect some of the developers used to work for Wunderlist. Really clean and simple and very easy to set up syncing with the cloud. I was converted and made the purchase in an hour. I don’t feel bad about paying for a tool that I use everyday. Great job and love the iPhone version too. Not working so well with my iWatch but less bothered by that.

Version 3.12.1
Switched over to Things3 a few months ago after being a long time user of Todoist and it is a godsend really.
The open space canvas theme they went for the design is the best I've ever seen and instantly maps out and makes me see my tasks that would have been lost in a subfolder void.
The planner doesn't overload your brain with colours and instead the design UI is so simple and clear yet sleek that you feel more productive just looking at it. The Mac desktop app is beautiful and the sync works fantastically.
I'd say the natural language processing is nowhere near Todoist (which I understand is hard) and cross integration with other services is very poor due to apparently there being no public API. One of the things I liked about Todoist was the ability to integrate it with other services like my pomodoro app, evernote and IFTT. But ultimately it is worth it for the UI alone.
Must use if you are a also a mac user really.

Version 3.12
Used this app for many years now and it’s an almost unbeatable combination of functional simplicity and elegant design. The one essential feature that has never materialised and will eventually force me to use another app instead is the inability to collaborate on lists. I just need to be able to share a list and allow others to edit. Just having that facility for people in my ‘family sharing’ list would do. Seems like such a basic thing, doesn’t need to compromise the design, and so long overdue. Please!

Version 3.10.9
One of my core daily apps. Have given 5 stars which always looks a bit like a fix but not. The new changes have improved an already great app. There were a few little annoying “things” for me with Things, but these are now resolved. Especially the double window iPAd version. So I mostly use that for proper planning then use watch or phone to tick jobs off or quickly add a task on the hoof (or I’ll forget it!). One request. Would like a phone added task to DEFAULT to “today”? As an option may be?

Version 3.10.6
I’d be wary of spending your money on these apps from this company. It seems to me these are really a subscription in disguise.
They’ve disabled Things 2 and not provided bug fixes for this basically forcing people to upgrade.
When I questioned them on this and how long Things 3 will work they said we can’t provide any length of time that it may stay working. So basically your buying an app that at any time could stop working and you may have to then pay to get the new version to continue using. At least with a subscription service like Todoist you know much it’s costing you and that it will stay working.

Version 3.10.4
I have been using the iPad version and really like it. Better than previous to do apps I have used, particularly with building projects of tasks - works well for travel planning.
On upcoming to-dos rather than show the day of the week I would prefer the date to stay there.
BUT, I have then purchased the iPhone version and have issues. Syncing fine with iPad, but is not allowing me to go into existing to-dos and edit the words I have written. If I create a new to-do on the iPhone thy is fine, but then get same issue if I want to go back and edit the text I can’t.

An amendment to my original 2 star review. I love ‘Things’, Looks fantastic and performs its function like no other app. I’ve bounced around other apps with file attachment capability but always return to ‘Things’. Have learned to live without file attachments. Would be great to see this function in version 4?
Things is without a doubt a great looking app that performs its function very well. However, for me there is one big obvious omission from the apps functionality. File attachments! Some folks can live without them but I find this function (found in other apps) invaluable. Until things has this function I simply have no reason to continue using it..sorry!

Version 3.10
I've held off exploring other 'ToDo' apps until I'd tried the new apple reminders, which while looking nice doesn't really advance the functionality much. Plus it still has those sync issues occassionally. Tried Things 3, it was like a veil had been lifted. firstly, it looks lovely, a well crafted, well thought through design. It's feature rich which makes organisation a breeze. I travel a lot and its great to make a each trip a project and capture everything I need to do there. The pie chart presentation gives an instant overview of progress. It's easy to use, does the job, doesn't get in the way like some complex todo apps and the calendar integration prvides a great snap sshot of your day and week/months ahead. Yes, expensive, but I don't resent these guy's making a living off such quality software with great support. Plus they provide timely updates. IOS13 version landed today, ready for launch tomorrow.

Version 3.9.6
I do love this app so bought both the macOS and iOS versions. They look gorgeous and manage to strike the balance between simplicity and complexity. Functions make sense and you manage to Get Things Done.
So what’s not to like?
One small issue. I plan my tasks the night before where I prioritise the majority of my work related and a small number of personal tasks during the day. However, there is no way to schedule tasks for the next evening unless you stay up until after midnight or do this in the morning.
One big issue. I love my iPhone and MacBook. They are my workhorses at home. But, at work, I’m using CentOS with a Windows 10 VM. I understand that an app for other operating systems would be a big ask but I don’t understand why there’s not a web version?
I would love to continue being productive at work without having to use my phone when I have a big screen, keyboard and mouse. I’m aware that I can email new tasks to myself but I’m referring to the ability to view all projects and tasks on my big screen.
It’s 2019 guys, you can do this!

Version 3.9.2
For me the real reason I love this app is it’s Apple Watch complication. It does what no other reminders app does and that’s show you a constant reminder throughout the day. Every other app wants you to set a time or date.
One request would be for the watch complication to change the displayed reminder on each glance at the watch face.
That what you can set a list of stuff you need to do that day but none of them at specific times and every glance at the watch your reminded of a different task.

Version 3.9.2
I am in awe of this application. Paired with Things on all my iOS devices and my Mac (yeah, I'm one of those folk!), Things has really revolutionised my habits. Once upon a time I continuously put off completing tasks, and was crazy forgetful about everything. Now, I simply rely upon Things to remember for me, and to prod me into doing stuff on time.
It took a while to actually form the habit of listing my to-dos in the app, but once I started, it became almost automatic. Things has also become so beautiful over the years, especially the new Dark Mode. The design and intuition that’s gone into it is stunning. I love it, and recommend it to everyone. One thing I would really like to draw attention to is the sync speed between devices — it is SO fast. I honestly don’t know how they manage it.
It's only now that I'm writing a review (something I never do!), but as a result I can vouch that Things is one of the best apps I've used over a multi-year period. To think that the team are still adding small quality of life features every now and then! I think it’s perfect already, but you can be sure they’ll think of something.

Version 3.9.2
This is a handy app especially as it can link to Apple Watch and you can add reminders that way. However, it’s not always easy to navigate. How do you delete a recurring item permanently? All it seems to do it delete it for that week. After trying seemingly every option I can access I still can’t find it, meaning I can’t permanently delete a reminder for a task which I no longer need to do, reducing the usefulness of the app. It needs to be easier to do simple things.

Version 3.8.7
(Note, I never used earlier generations of things so I'm coming to this version fresh)
I like the design - you've clearly put a lot of thought and work into meeting people's needs while also keeping it simple. It shows, and deserves to be highlighted.
I've found a couple of niggles though:
1. The use of space is a bit too lavish in some places.
Overall, I like what you've done in giving each task enough space to separate it from its neighbours, but a checklist is a single thing, and I think the items should be displayed closer together to express that unity.
2. It could do with templates that aren't repeating tasks / projects.
I have checklists for when I'm going on trips, etc. I want a way to create a project and popular it with the relevant item. For now I've created a "Templates" Area and put things there that I can duplicate then move to where I want them. Trouble is, these things then show up under Anytime.

This is a great app but not quite perfect

Version 3.8.5
Firstly, I recommend this app. If you’re using it for yourself as an individual or self employed professional on your own it’s fab. I have it for both iPhone and iPad and it’s great (I don’t have a Mac).
So I did have three things but the excellent customer support told me how to use the slightly hidden intelligent language parsing in the date picker. So two of three minor issues solved. Great first class customer support too.
So that leaves the most annoying issue for me, which is task order in the today list, or the upcoming list for that matter. There should be the choice to order these by time of reminder as well as date (in the upcoming list’s case it does group tasks by due day but not reminder time). It especially annoys me on the today list. Just an option in settings to turn on sorting by reminder time would be perfect for me. Personally I’d like to have no due time tasks first in today then tasks with a due time below in order of due time getting later towards the bottom of the list. Having to keep manually reordering things each day is a little tiresome. It’s good that I’m reviewing all the tasks each morning but still, some automation for list order would be super useful and would personally save me that extra little bit of time.
But other than this grumble I love the app. Fav task management app that I use daily for personal and work tasks. The Apple Watch app integration is great too.

Version 3.8.4
Things is a marvel. It makes life management a breeze and more than that, a joy! I couldn’t imagine how v2 could be improved but v3 is just extraordinary. The boring side of lists and projects move to the background and the gorgeous UI and completely intuitive workflows make Things unprecedented in its field. Sure it’s not cheap, thank goodness for that as one gets what one pays for. Keep up the work that sets you apart. Thanks for making a suite of one app, that doesn’t have me resenting getting things done!

Version 3.8.4
I bought this app as I was in search of a great to-do list and this has great reviews. It was, hand on heart, the most expensive app I've ever bought but I felt it would be worth it. I can confirm it's a well designed app that is quite easy to use,
HOWEVER,
1. They only support Apple devices. So if you only have an iPhone but otherwise use PCs you have no other way of accessing your list. Not even a web interface. This is a giant pain not only for easy accessibility but also it's often easier to see things on a bigger screen to see the bigger picture, move things around, plan, etc. I'd rather use my phone for quick entry and my PC to categorise, plan, set deadlines, etc.
2. I can't find a way to pull up a list of ALL my outstanding items. Maybe not something most people would want but I find it useful.
So for me it's just not the app I need. I hope someone else finds this info useful before they drop a fiver on an app with limited portability.

Version 3.8.2
I’ve tried a lot of task managers and it was such a relief to find Things. It has features that seem really essential and obvious, yet are missing from other apps.
Like separate start dates and due dates. You can plan when to start working on a task and also add a deadline.
Projects can be completed and have start and due dates. So can the tasks inside them. So for example you might set up a project to run through February and March, then have tasks for different stages of the project.
I’ve tried some newer apps just to compare and found myself utterly confused about how to plan what tasks I’ll do when while also tracking deadlines, and how to set up projects when the only options are a task or a list that can’t be completed.
You can also add headings in projects - good for visual arrangement and you can also do things like drag-and-drop, move or archive a heading along with all its associated tasks.
Other good things about Things: view your calendars in their respective colours, URL scheme that you can use to link from other apps, nested tags, beautiful calm design, view logged tasks easily. I don’t want lots of busy colours and noise, or gamification - just simplicity. I’ve been so much more productive since I started using this app. Give it a try you won’t regret it!

I’ve used a range of to-do apps over the years eventually settling on one that worked well across platforms and was free (and supported moveable sub tasks). However, Things is functionally richer with a more enjoyable interface. It does what I need for simple tasks as well as for more complex situations.
In particular I like being able to slide up the blue + symbol and add a task to where I want (eg on a particular day in the upcoming calendar view, or to a particular project (sliding up the + in the anytime view).
Also handy is being able to do a voice input to add a task to Things using my Apple Watch.

Ok, so you’ve read the reviews but still not sure if you should pay a full tenner for Things3... maybe try some of the free ones again...
Well, although MinimaList and Microsoft ToDo are good alternatives to the retiring Wunderlist, Things3 really is excellent. It’s certainly everything I need.
Has all the functions you need without being complicated. It’s intuitive in use, has a classy clean style, and there are no ads at all.
Importantly, you can set priorities, tags, dates and reminders - so you really can use it to schedule and prioritise your tasks across a week or month.
If you need more than a simple checklist, but don’t want to have to spend ages learning how to use a complicated app - you can do worse than Things3.

Brilliant app in terms of functionality, aesthetics, user interface, intuitive design. Nice work Things team! Rarely in life do you stumble across something that is better than you could ever have dreamed of ... well I’ve certainly found that in Things, and I’ve tried a few task management apps. Version 3.4.2
Things is an incredibly powerful and flexible way to manage to do lists and simple projects across multiple devices. I like the ability to tag or create collections and the search function is really powerful.
The interface is intuitive and can be configured in different ways to suit how you want to use it - so it works for you rather than the other way round. You need to get into good habits like capturing actions (which is made easier by the links with other apps) and regularly reviewing and updating status.
Not the cheapest, but having used other task managers I would say this is by far the best. It was money well spent when I consider the time it’s saved me by being more organised and efficient- it’s probably paid for itself, in terms of time saved, every month.

Version 3.4
I hate lists, I hate to-dos, I hate reminders.... I love Things 3.
I've spent my entire life doing things because they need doing; if I really need to remember something I'll put it in a calendar. However the number of things I need to track was getting crazy.
I heard numerous podcasts saying how nice Things was so I tried on the iPhone version and immediately loved it.
It has an easy, flexible interface which meant I could put tasks when i thought I'd do them, like a calendar.
I can put personal stuff that occurs to me at work to do this evening.
I can add bulleted thoughts to a task and change the order.
I can group tasks into a project.
I can move things around so easily to help me work out what to do next.
The Watch app is awesome- I was walking along suddenly thought of something to do tapped the complication recorded what I needed to do (Watch Series 1) and it appeared on my iPhone waiting to be triaged.
I can give the email address to my partner so she can email me things to do. Which don't appear in my Today list, but are on the queue to be thought about.
Best! I can export straight from Mind node.
So I've got the ipad and iphone versions - best £30 I've spent.

Version 3.4
One of the best and most mature todo apps with a great intuitive UI. Very few other options out there with native Mac/iOS apps and so many features.
The only problem is : the latest research shows that the most successful and productive people don’t use todo apps, they use calendars (google it) ! If doesn’t get scheduled, it won’t happen as reliably. Plus, a calendar keeps you honest and realistic as to how many things you can schedule in a day, which helps avoid the « never ending todo list of doom » problem.
Things allows you to schedule tasks to a day only, and even though it now has a reminder feature, this is not enough : there is no notion of task duration, and no way to simply drag a task to a specific space on your day, so you can instantly visualize it.
There are some other apps based on this concept (Plan, Sorted, TickTick) but they’re nowhere near as feature rich. If Things added that one feature, it would completely eat this market !

It’s a stunning app in every sense. I have one request: when adding a task, three buttons are behind the keyboard waiting to be revealed, one of them is the trash. I find myself sometimes starting a task and deciding against it or just starting one by accident. Having a few clicks to get to the trash or having to delete a blank to do is the one faff I can find in the app. Maybe black tasks don’t stay? Or perhaps there’s a trash button at the top right, out of the way but still in reach? Also, if I could be so bold, it would be great to have a little autofill for areas and projects. Maybe some # stuff like todoist does. Keep up the good work!

Finally, I’m always searching for the perfect calendar app which incorporates; a calendar, to-do list, voice dictation notes, customisable notes with photos & video integration and location based reminders. Version 3.3.1
Coming from Todoist, I find Things a much nicer app to use, it simply simple looking.
My main frustration and potential motive for returning to Todoist is the ease of entering a new task.
In Todoist you can write "Do washing up tomorrow at 9am" and a task will be added that says "Do washing up" and place it tomorrow with a reminder for 9am. It's easy and smart.
With Things you type the task, you press another button, you orientate yourselves with a full month calendar, you pick date and reminder in separate sections
This clunky way of adding a task is not what you expects from a highly rated/priced task app going up against established competition.
Other than the extremely high price set for the MacOS version of this app, the ease of entering a task needs an overhaul in my opinion.

I’m somewhat obsessed with this app. I’ve been battling for years to get organised, but nothing seemed to work. Things has changed all that - is simple enough not to be confusing, but adaptable enough to react to my various needs and has helped me to finally get on top of my wide and sprawling to-do lists and multiple projects. I downloaded it at the same time that I read Getting Things Done and they compliment each other extremely well.
I wouldn’t be without it now, it basically helps me run my life and my business!

A delightful app to use...would love more API features

Version 3.2.4
I’ve tried a load of task management apps and they all tend to do better in one area or another. I had stuck with todoist for a long time but recently switch to things after the 3.0 redesign as I found the interface nicer and more pleasing to use AND I really valued the start date feature. However, I’d love to see some of todoists features like the ability to add tasks from other services which hook in. Still, great app.

Good but drop off in new v3

Version 3.2.2
Over all very good app which supports effective working. Would have given 4 or 5 stars except in latest version (v3) has made presentation difficult to see wood for greed. In v2 the areas were listed without the all the projects but in v3 the projects are listed as well. In v2 you could expend the areas to see the projects and there was a separate projects line that you could expand to see projects grouped by area. This I feel was better. Now, because of all the projects being listed I can’t do easily navigate and focus. I assume this is easily fixed. When it does I look forward to giving the app 5 stars. Ps. There are good additional features in v3 but not good enough to outweigh the negative step.
