Description

Want online privacy?
Protect all your connections with NordVPN's bulletproof encryption for the cost of a pair of shoes. Priceless peace of mind just a tap away.
NordVPN is an easy-to-use VPN app for iPhone and iPad, trusted by millions of users worldwide. It shields your online activities from nosy advertisers, malicious actors, and intrusive internet service providers. How? By encrypting your internet traffic.
NordVPN is the best way to have a private, fast, and secure internet connection wherever you are.
Why NordVPN?
TURBO SPEEDS
• Use NordLynx, our modern solution based on the WireGuard® protocol, to get VPN connection speeds that are hard to beat.
• More than 5500 remote servers in 59 countries mean that the perfect one is always just a tap away.
• Tap “Quick Connect,” and you’ll be connected to the best server in seconds!
IDEAL FOR PRIVACY
• We don’t track and store your activity online. Therefore, we can’t give your data away – even if someone asks. And we’ve had two independent audits to prove it!
• Found a cozy cafe with a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it’s unsecured? Don’t give up just yet! Use NordVPN and hide your online activities from snoopers and hackers.
• Hide your real IP and surf the web with a new online identity. With almost 60 countries to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect one.
• Unlike a proxy server or the Tor browser, NordVPN goes beyond hiding your IP. It will also encrypt your traffic and maintain a stable connection.
SECURITY IS THE PRIORITY
• Enable the Dark Web Monitor to get an alert if your credentials are exposed online.
• Turn the Kill Switch on to stay safe in case your VPN connection drops.
• Secure your iPhone data with next-generation encryption complemented with top-notch VPN protocols: NordLynx based on WireGuard and IKEv2/IPsec.
AS EASY AS 1-2-3
• Download, log in, and connect – that’s it! With NordVPN, one tap is enough to encrypt your whole traffic.
• Set the app to connect automatically and enjoy full peace of mind.
• Browse the Help Center, write an email, or visit our website for a live chat. Our award-winning customer support team is ready to assist you all day, every day.
WORLDWIDE ENTERTAINMENT
• Stream without interruptions and access your favorite video content from anywhere.
• Connect to any gaming server, take advantage of an early game release on another side of the world, and protect yourself from DDoS attacks.
• Say goodbye to bandwidth throttling. With NordVPN, there will be no data caps or speed limits.
PROTECT EVERYTHING
• Your iPhone is probably not the only connected device you have. Use NordVPN to protect your laptop, tablet, and smart TV, or share your account with your family.
• Install NordVPN on your Wi-Fi router and enjoy a private internet connection on every connected device in your home.
GET YOUR TECHIE HAT ON
• You can set a custom DNS address or pick your preferred network protocol.
• Browse our Specialty Servers list for extra protection. Double VPN, Obfuscated, P2P – we have servers to match your needs.
CONNECT TO ANY DEVICE
• Securely access files on other devices with our Meshnet feature.
• Safe, encrypted, and easy to use — you only need the NordVPN app.
• Perfect for file sharing, gaming, and work. Access files on your home computer even while traveling abroad or joining virtual LAN parties with your friends.
Bottom line? You need NordVPN if you want to:
• Hide your IP address and location.
• Stay safe when hopping on public Wi-Fi or any other network.
• Browse the internet without the fear of being watched and tracked.
It’s easy. Online security is just a tap away – wind down, connect to NordVPN, and enjoy safe and private internet access wherever you go.

Having had this program for some time now I don't look back and think it's a bad decision, it keeps my mind at peace knowing when connecting to public Wi-Fi your device data is secure and with double VPN it's even more secure. Wouldn't be seen without it now.

What more can I say. After signing up to an offer I’ve only ever experienced intermittent connectivity. Unable to connect entirely at times. To the point it needs to be switched off. I’d never recommend this product to my worst enemy, yet alone friends and family.
And to add insult to injury alot of the positive reviews listed on the App Store have been paid for to appear like it’s a better product than it really is. This where I live is called misleading your customers.

Version 8.9.3
30 Sept UPDATE - Came back to the computer to find that Nord had disconnected AGAIN and the computer was connected to the 'net without a VPN. Utterly unreliable. Stop offering other 'security' tools until you can get the VPN right.
11 July UPDATE - Logged me out AGAIN. Getting heartily sick of this. Would be scoring ZERO stars if I could.
20 June UPDATE - Nord just logged me out without warning and without a notification that I was now unprotected. Now has Error 500 issue so can't log back in. Since moving to the Web authorization login the app has become utterly unreliable. OpenVPN with a Nord server is far more reliable and safe.
28 March UPDATE - Installed Ventura 13.3 and on reboot, as usual, NordVPN did not automatically connect despite being set to do so. Now actively looking at ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access (PIA) as a replacement. If you can't fix login issues after a year and the VPN still logs-out and leaves you vulnerable, it's time to move.
23 March UPDATE - Been away a few days and came back to my Mac to find that NordVPN has signed itself out, disconnected from the VPN and was requiring me to either sign-in or create an account. I've no idea how long NordVPN has left my Mac unprotected. This login problem has ceased to be an inconvenience and has become the very security hazard NordVPN is supposed to fix.
Original Review - Every second time I start the MacBook NordVPN requires a login rather than simply protecting me.
When it does work it is great. The problem has existed ever since they moved from in-app login to requiring a browser login.
Easy fix. Go back to in-app login.
Running NordVPN node using the OpenVPN app is rock solid and much quicker, so there is some work still yet to do. Nonetheless, when it works it is excellent.

I have been a NordVPN user for 4 years now. And when Apple announced VPN support for Apple TV with TVOS 17, I thought for sure Nord would have an update out day 1. But it’s been a week now, and still no update with a native Apple TV app for NordVPN. Bit disappointed to say the least. SmartDNS doesn’t work very well. This would be a 5 star review if Apple TVOS 17 support was added.

Version 8.14.0
Recently stopped working on IOS and there’s only very basic support available from the website.
Issue still unresolved and will need to change VPN provider as they are unable to assist with the issue. Really frustrating.
Update:
Customer services send you in a loop. I’ve given them EVERYTHING they’ve asked for and they’ve no clue. Useless.
I’ve now got the same issues on their app on a Firestick (you select the app to find a server and it just hangs, knocking out your network connection).
There are clearly bugs in their applications and it renders your device useless. Looking for long term alternatives as Nord appear to be going downhill, shame as used them for years.
So, in a nutshell Nord VPN is great when it works but when it breaks, useless support. Sorry to leave them but I’ve had nothing but trouble with connection issues in recent weeks and now it’s on different platforms, and continues not connecting via different ISPs and mobile networks. As a process of elimination, the only factor that stays throughout, the Nord App and they won’t help relsove the issues, just come at you reading from check list and a ‘computer says’ attitude. Urgh, I’m out.

I’m fed up of this app going to sleep. Browsing away quite merrily and then everything grinds to a halt. Open the client, it jumps to the selected country and says now connected. Go back to browsing - until the next time. Second, more serious issue is the client has a nasty habit of signing itself out meaning all web use is unprotected. Open the client and have to log in again and then it needs to install a configuration file. Why did it delete the previous? I initially thought this happened after app updates, but it happened just now and the last update was a week ago. I don’t care what deal I’m offered, I will NOT be renewing! Have just reset iPad from scratch and reinstalled the client and it’s still happening.

I have to disconnect Nord VPN, even though it’s running on servers in my country, when using BCC iplayer, RingGo and some Safari searches.
They have servers all over the world and let you choose your favourites however there are times the app chooses the fastest. I DO NOT WANT TO CONNECT TO ALBANIA or other dodgy countries. Nord VPN needs to give me that option as I’ll not renew.

I first connected very easily from the UK before my trip to China. Now since here, I cannot connect at all. The help desk is very nice and wants to be helpful, but after many emails back and forth, they finally supplied me a list of about 15-20 servers I had to try manually each one. I don’t have time to do this ( it’s very time consuming). So I’ve asked for a refund. Hope they give it 🤞

I don’t know if other VPN providers would be better, but NordVPN’s “auto-connect” feature barely works for me. I leave the app running (ie open) on my iPhone full time 24/7, but when I remember to check it during the day I’d say 4/5 times the app basically reloads itself and shows a red message that says “you are not protected”. It’s unclear whether my phone has been unprotected for some time without me knowing and the VPN “auto” connects when I prompt it to by looking at the app, or if it’s a momentary thing. Either way, it shouldn’t be happening when I’ve paid for an annual subscription upfront only to find the VPN only works for short periods. It might be my wifi skipping that is causing the VPN connection to go from green and connected to red and unprotected, but the auto-connect feature is meant to cope with those moments silently and unprompted by me, the user. Hopefully this issue will be resolved in the next app release. For now, I am very dissatisfied and wouldn’t recommend.

So far so good. Payment was not as easy this is my only complaint so far - it was easy it just wasn’t done through Apple Pay so made me a bit nervous, but payment still - was fast and easy just not as quick as scanning my thumb print with Apple Pay and previous VPN.
The app however is easy to use, easy to understand as I’m not a ‘tech guy’ yet I found it easy start to finish - I have auto connect on, just clicked ‘yes' connecting to any country in the world in 2 seconds, easy, getting tips and advice, get that too. I wish they would give me more education though but still I get a lot, i have zero complaints about the app itself - quick, simple and easy to use - I would and will recommend this to anyone who reads this and friends and family also. I may download some of the other ‘Nord' apps also but want to keep my spending down so in due time.
Happy customer and won’t be leaving, hope they keep improving it despite it being seemingly perfect already.

Today I’ve been reading about MESHNET time-consuming and decided to write. I got the hang of it and very interesting which Apps work with or without turning it on or off by using the NordVPN. I use all the features that are available in the years subscription.
The Google Home App works fine on the iPhone but on the iPad Pro it’s got a mind of it s own it works when switched on & off at times maybe the iPad Pro is old & needs upgrading or whatever. Otherwise the NordVPN App is wonderful with new features coming along the way to more improvements.
Sounds good! Works great! Powerful & Perfect. Some servers not always with some servers. There are many servers to switch to and made them my favorites. This wonderful & fantastic VPN App gets better all the time than the next update or the next upcoming update getting PERFECT all the time. Works wonders! What more can I add! Well done folks & do more miracles! Also purchased a separate PYRAMID WI-FI VPN ROUTER as NordVPN suggested in their App and works wonders. Now connected to the Router I can add more than 6 and unlimited computers & devices to NordVPN and much more with this SUPER-FANTASTIC GADGET!

Nord. Perfect for us.

NordVPN is our first VPN and because I had no experience of VPNs, I chose Nord on a 1 year plan as a trial. Having used Nord for five years now, I cannot imagine ever going online again without it. (Some services block VPNs)
Their plan pricing is fair, reviews are excellent, fast customer service is flawless (I forgot my incredibly complicated new password and after contacting Nord via Twitter, they couldn't have been more helpful and efficient) and ease of use for someone like me who doesn’t care how things work just as long as they do, it’s perfect. NordVPN is now on our mobiles, laptop and home PC. Something else about Nord, is that if you use Twitter, they publish very useful articles about online privacy and the latest news. As a result, I was able to delete FaceCrook, obtain my Google data and minimise its access to me. I also discovered Duckduckgo browser and several browser security plugins.
If you’re hesitating or unsure about which VPN to choose, you will not go wrong in choosing Nord. We’re very happy we did.

Pretty frustrating.

The app is “Okay”… I can only take their word for it that I’m protected when they say I am. My biggest issue is that the connection is extremely poor or is frequently dropped or something, which results in the app cutting connections for security reason as I’m sure it’s designed that way. They’d rather you have no internet than not being able to protect you. As a result, more often than not (maybe 7-8 out of 10 times) I have to either switch my wifi or data on and off or pause the vpn connection and immediately reactivate it to be able to use data on my phone. It seems to default to cutting the connection then I have to do above said action to remind it that i actually want to be online. It’s rapidly reaching the point where I’m considering just leaving it off and cancelling my subscription because I’d rather be unprotected than having to go through this song and dance every time I want to use my data. As an example…I want to check the weather. Open chrome. No connection. Wifi off and on. No connection. Data off and on. No connection. Airplane mode off and on. No connection. Pause nord 5 minutes. Connection instantly restored. Check weather. The connection may start working at any point during that on and off procedure or I’ll have to go through it a few times.

Update:
Turns out there was an error with the app that somehow prevented customer service requests from getting through. My apologies.
VPN does not currently work for me in China even with manual configuration, but customer service was cooperative and tried to help to the best of their ability.
Ultimately refund was not issued due to Apple’s own 14 day policy, so would recommend paying the company directly through the website rather than an in-app purchase if you want to take advantage of the full 30 day window.
Blame the higher powers at play, not NordVPN. Otherwise decent service with decent communication.

The vpn service itself is decent, good speeds and app is easy to use. I have recently been having issues with my vpn not working properly, so I decided to update the app (I have auto updates off as every app just keeps getting worse). I have a widget on my Home Screen which, with one press of a button use to connect and disconnect your vpn service. However this has been ruined as since I updated the app, I tap on the widget and it brings up a menu and I only have the option to pause the vpn. It seems silly but it’s gone from one button press to two AND now I can’t even turn the vpn off, I can only pause it. This infuriates me beyond belief. Once my two years is up I will be looking elsewhere

Version 8.3.0
The connection will be interrupted or unable to connect.
When I use home wifi or a mobile network, the VPN server connection is always unstable. It is “reconnecting” or “connection timeout” most of the time. It is not easy to open the browser or any internet connection.
I will have to manually disconnect and reconnect again and again until it is “connected and has IP Address”
When I am using the mobile network, it is a nightmare, especially when you are on 4G Network. The latency via the NordVPN network makes the connection between the device and the destination website becomes challenging. It is recalling my memory of about back to 30 years ago, like using 56k modem.
I have tried different protocols, servers, and on different iPhones. The issues has never resolved.
The time has issue since it came across with the news regarding nordvpn and surfshark vpn were combined. I am curious what happened there.
In my opinion, The only solution is not using this nordvpn app or change to other brand.
For NordVPN marking team, you have successfully attracted new users (the victims). Do you think it is the way to sell you product without building stable platform for users?

I have been waiting months for an update that resolves this problem but it hasn’t happened. On the iPhone 13 you will need to install another app which is open source & configure it yourself by downloading additional patch files. It does work but it’s very slow & frequently disconnects without notifying you forcing you to continually monitor its status & I’m not joking!! All the cool features of the NordVPN app you can forget about because it has no input or function at all! Changes can be made only through the very basic “OpenVPN-connect“ app which allows any change you like at your own risk on the advanced page. So I’m not happy as it’s not what I bargained for at all .
I’m locked in for a 2 year contract so choose wisely instead of assuming like I have . (Chatbot was polite though).

Very confusing. Tech should be accessible to people who are low tech. The system logged me out, asked for verification codes, then somehow I changed the password bypassing the codes, via apple. When I logged in, it said, I had no active subscription, although I found a payslip- I had paid for 2 years of premium account. I wrote to "support " only to receive an automated message adding me to the queue.
Plus, on my laptop now there are two apps- I was redirected to downloading a second app, looking exactly the same, I was logged out and can't even understand which of the two apps is outdated. couldn't log into either of them. gave up because it blocks my whole system. There should be at least a prompt, saying something like, welcome to your NEW vpn app". at least publish the user manual, and add a HUMAN support service, where you can talk to someone who is not a machine.

Very often prevent my apps on my phone very loading when I try to open it, it makes me wonder what is the point of this app. This app is supposed to protect me whilst using any of my devices, but it seems like this app is a hindrance rather than a protection. I think the app is very clunky when you move to a different location. You have to reconnect again which doesn’t always work. This app is supposed to be one of the best in my opinion I think it’s a waste of money and it makes me wonder if it is protecting me as it should do whilst using my devices I’m waiting for my prescription that I paid for to end and I do not think I will pay for another subscription
I would like to add I find Your support service disengaging, when the connection as being disrupted they was no attempt from the support team to reconnect
So you find that you have to explain the whole situation again
When they offered advice it feels like they are in a hurry to get rid of you and offer advice which involves disconnecting from the support page, I often find the situation still persists I would have to reconnect and then end up communicating with another person and explaining everything again. Most of the time offer the same advice
Which is very frustrating.

I have been with nord for 6 years and I decided to use two factor authentication . I lost my backup numbers on the authentication app
after reinstalling my device . A word of warning……..
Make sure you keep the details of your payment method, card number, and dates and how much you paid as you will need this information for Nord to reset your account. I payed for a three years VPN connection with Nord and when it came to trying to reset the account due to a problem with multi factor authentication, all the details I needed where from an payment card that did not exist anymore. It took some time to get the information needed as the card I paid on was a card that was obsolete. It was a minefield of problems to get the information needed.
I am back on my account now, but it was a close call.

The concept is great: easy to use, on-demand VPN with several countries, servers, and modes. In general, the service offered by NordVPN is good.
However, the app executes this poorly sometimes. Many times I find that the app has decided to log me out of my account for no reason, which is not a big problem, but it’s annoying. Other times, the app gets stuck in trying to find a server even when I press cancel, forcing me to either shut down my phone or deleting and reinstalling the app.
Honestly, I feel the app didn’t use to have these errors when I first started using it a few years ago, and I would love for it to go back to working as well as it used to.

If you want to use internet based streaming and get the benefit of the most/best content it does and "doesn’t" work. If you want to 'hide in plain sight' in a coffee shop or anywhere for that matter and work/browse the interweb... in obscurity, it does the job. You’re anonymous on the network or on your 4G connection, appearing to be in some far flung corner of the world or the other side of the country you’re in. It will make some services "think" you’re in a different country. There are some that do recognise you are using a VPN. Some providers are made to believe you’re on holiday or a business trip and there some that let you access the library but as soon as you try and watch something it flags up that you are using a VPN and asks you to disengage the VPN to carry on. So unless you have a workaround, of which there is a straightforward one providing you have at least two devices that can access WiFi and/or a 4G connection, you won’t be able to view the content of your choice. If NORD can make itself invisible" to ALL it can have 5 stars I’m nitpicking as you get what you’re paying for.

I’ve not had any issues with this secure VPN in 2-years of usage. There are/were a number of deals available but I was more than satisfied with the speed, reliability and security of this app. I’ve found it to be very worthwhile when using networks that aren’t known/owned by myself or friends and family. It provides for enormous amounts of confidence when used on foreign networks or those in transit hubs eg airports, train/bus stations and the like. Overall I can’t find anything to justify any criticism of the app, but that won’t stop my family or I from remaining vigilant - always plan for the worst. Or, as my trainers used to say, “train hard, fight easy!”.

Version 7.13.0
Just to be clear, I don’t think that this is Nord’s fault but I can’t use the service and I’ve had to buy another VPN to write this review. I’m based in China and purchased this in December. To get this vpn to work in China you have to go through a long (slightly) complex process of updating the VPN every month or so as the Great Firewall find the servers and shut them down. At the end of May Nord got shut down and since then I’ve not been able to get the service to work. As the support websites and everything to do with Nord are blocked in China the only way I can communicate is sending messages to friends and family to contact them on my behalf. A notice has been up for almost two months now that just says. ‘Doesn’t work in China. We’re working on it.’ Most of my family I usually contact on WhatsApp (blocked) so I need a reliable service. Nord isn’t cheap and I’ve now had to spend more money on an expensive vpn to get back in the loop. I don’t know how Nord works in other countries (I’m sure it’s fine) but don’t buy this service for China at the moment (June 2022) until Nord can guarantee a secure and reliable service. Until then choose another provider. The provider I’ve moved to (I won’t name) but seems much more straightforward and faster. Sorry Nord!

I’ve used NordVPN for around 4 years now, I have it on various devices and I love it. I’ve never had it cut me off or had any issues at all really and I have it on Google, iOS and Microsoft devices. If you want a good vpn I definitely recommend this it is a bit much paying for a 2 year subscription up front but it’s def the most worth it. Although I think if you create an account through a web page and buy the subscription there it’s a little cheaper than subscribing through the app. The one thing I do find a little annoying tho actually is the app has been signing me out a lot recently like every day or 2!!
All in all though one of the best vpns around if they fix the signing out issue I wouldn’t rage w single complaint tbh

Version 7.12.0
Overall the app and the service are good. They work well together and the service seems pretty good.
However, the app has huge flaws. You can select favourite countries for server sites. You’d think that the app would direct to one of those countries as the default at startup. Alas, this is not the case. The app appears to want to exercise it’s own agenda. And you can’t just tap the country you want and go. Instead you get a silly message telling you you’re not protected. Well, d’uh, the app was just launched to initiate the VPN. Surely an icon showing disconnection from the VPN, and which doesn’t interfere with user choices, would suffice. Occasionally then you get a message congratulating you for using the VPN 7 days in a row. This implies a level of tracking that shouldn’t occur and it is a wholly useless marketing message. Finally, even if you select the country you want to connect to, often the app chooses its own default and tries to connect you to that even if the map is pinging the country you selected. Eventually the map re-centres on the default country it has actually chosen, but by then it has already initiated a connection broadcasting your attempt to setup a VPN to the default country. In some cases that could be a huge security risk.
The app and service would get 5 stars if the startup routine weren’t so useless, silly, unreliable, and risky. If this continues I will cancel my subscription.

Unstable.

I bought NORD VPN for a year and used it for 2/3 months so far. It is okay most of the time but I experience a lot of issues with connectivity very often and last night it just died, the VPN catches servers connections but nothing loads. I tried to contact support and that didn’t load either.
As a whole connection gets lost quite often. Under home wifi it’s more stable, when I’m outside the house it is a very bumpy ride and the connection is just very unstable to un existent.
Often have to spend around an hour trying to reconnect when I get back in as everything is just a mess after being outside. It’s like the servers get all knocked off and unstable. Last night wasn’t able to make it work at all, it connects to a server but no websites/apps load. Left it overnight and until morning still nothing changed. Had to get a new VPN now even though I still have Nord VPN paid for a year. Hopefully can get fixed.

I bought a 2yr deal significantly discounted, but I might be more displeased had I spent more.
Generally, Nord’s actual VPN service works well. For me, it is usually quick to connect and doesn’t drop out.
However, the iOS app can be temperamental. It signs me out every couple of days and routinely prompts me to re-install VPN profiles - something I have not had to do with previous VPNs I’ve used. This is easily the worst part of my experience.
When it has been slower to make a connection, the “Quick Connect” button does not indicate it is attempting to connect (or indicate you even tapped it), which can be very confusing if you tap it again (which is likely, thinking the touch was not registered), as it may complete the connection and then immediately disconnect. The button does not change colour or size when tapped, it only shrinks when held down for a long duration (relative to a tap) which makes for very bad UX.
The app also seems to be somewhat spurious in whether it boots with a connection already established or not.
However, I would say 80% of the time it works as I expect, and in those cases, it works well. But considering the issues in the remaining 20%, and that it costs a very non-trivial amount of money, I would not give it 5 stars.

I purchased this vpn for my parents who live on a different continent in a restricted country. I just wanted them to be safe and online, so I went for a more expensive VPN (since Nord had such good reviews!)
However, my parents encountered issues when downloading the app which I had to stay online with them and resolve. Then it just stopped connecting and I had to contact support so they give me new server numbers. Then, after a couple of weeks, it’s not working again! And I have to contact support again and ask for new servers, and then pass it on to my elderly parents and explain how it works! honestly we just tried downloading free vpns and they work so much faster and cause no issues compared to NordVPN! And now our 30 day trial has passed, the support team are saying there’s no refunds (even though their service is not working)

This is the first VPN I have used so, as a newbie, I wanted a VPN that was easy to use and setup. Nord VPN has met those criteria. I have it permanently on for my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and it just works. I know that perhaps I don’t need to have it on for my home connection, but it doesn’t reduce my connection speed by much, and it’s just easier to use it all the time rather than having to remember to activate it when out. A few sites won’t connect with the VPN active, but it’s very easy to pause it for a short while to connect to these sites.
I also signed up for the 2 year offer when it was discounted so it is very cheap for what it offers.

VPN works really well on computer and I recommend it especially for the price. I can never get it to work properly on iPhone. I always have to turn it off to use some sites to connect to other devices on my network, it’s annoying. I do not recommend using Nord on iPhone as you spend most of the time turning it off as your phone will refuse to work with most online services. Also a lot of the time my Internet connection on my iPhone is slow painfully slow sometimes websites take about two minutes to load again I have to turn off the VPN and then everything works. I would recommend this for computer as I do download a lot of torrents and it works really well with this. Updated. I have followed the developers advice and I still have to turn it off constantly which is so annoying. For windows it is amazing, but IOS it just refuses to work 95% of the time. I am getting rid of it. Too many issues I also cant answer phonecalls or make calls while nord is on.

This was working great up until a few months ago and I planned on staying with them but recently it’s terrible. At least once an hour, If connected to the VPN it loses internet connection all together then you have to turn the VPN off to get connected again which you are then not protected. Having gone through all of their troubleshooting and connecting manually to their VPN it still happens, luckily my time with them is nearly up so I signed up with another VPN provider. This is something that Nord have done at their end as it was working fine until this started happening, there is even a selection choice on their troubleshooting page for this so they know all about it and know it is at their end but still cannot find a permanent fix. Disappointed to say the least.

Works well, but occasionally logs you out. This is not a problem as you can set the kill switch to disconnect from the internet if this happens.
My major gripe is that Nord have a policy of encouraging you to change your Nord password occasionally. A nag screen will block your screen and insist that you change your password now! This is annoying and disruptive to my workflow. I appreciate the need for having to change passwords, but I don’t like being told that I have to do it now!
I contacted support (which is excellent) to complain. My response was a cut and pasted corporate reply explaining why it is important to change passwords occasionally. It was an unapologetic reply, and I felt like a criminal for daring to challenge it.
Overall, an excellent product, good speeds and an occasional insistent reminder to change your password.
Look out for the special offers, and you can get a bargain.

I liked the fact that I could just activate and have VPN running in the background, which seemed to be the case in the beginning… however when it come down to having this for a little while…. I have found the app has automatically stopped running on its own without warning ⚠️. There is no longer any guarantee that the vpn is up and running as I had left it and it doesn’t even take me to disconnect it or for the internet to drop for it to stop running!
Not only is that an issue but I have found more and more websites on google refuse to open up now. They are just regular websites that I could get any other time before but now all of a sudden I am getting blocked from more and more.. this is usually because of vpn but when it happened one time I went to check my vpn connection it turned out it had disconnected itself without warning and I can’t even be sure how long that had been the case!
If it’s going to disconnect it needs to give you a prompt or warning to alert you it has been disconnected or is going to be disconnected so if that’s not what you want you can prevent it!
Not sure how I feel about this service anymore especially with more and more being blocked.

As usual Nord VPN is about as helpful as a broken left to a race horse. Yet again problems with Netflix, and not being able to use the UK service outside of the country. I would have thought you would have fixed this problem by now. Also if you do not want subscribers to air your dirty washing here, I suggest you make contacting you possible, instead of leading us around for ages, and still giving us no chance to ask a direct question. It would appear now you think you are so good, you can ignore your customers, and hope we will not complain, or give up. You should move to the US, your lack of after sales service will fit in there perfectly. Your ignorant attitude towards your customers is typical of clowns who think they are the best, but you no longer are, and when my subscription ends, I’ll be taking my custom elsewhere, and I advise others to do the same, because this company will never change

Edit: up to 4 stars as Nord have provided me with some instructions to rectify my issue, and so far I seem to stay logged in, and no longer suffer the issue described below! Cheers guys It works… I travel a lot for work and want to use my UK subs etc, plus stay more anonymous. Speeds can be iffy sometimes though. Biggest complaint: the app is constantly forgetting I am signed in, about every 2 days I have to sign in again and give permission for the app to make a VPN connection in settings… what gives? My rating would improve to 4/5 if it didn’t do this which such regularity. This is incredibly tiresome and I don’t see why… I am using it on a 2018 iPad Pro.

I like the speed of connections, the choice and reliability. The best VPN is the one you don’t know is there. I always have it on auto-connect when I travel.
One thing I noticed is that some services that *really* want to track you or just need to know where on Earth you are, simply refuse to serve. For example Apple AppStore would not allow me to write this review while connected to any VPN. Same with Google (not always). Oh well, fair enough, regionalised AppStore needs to know which one you are accessing, right? Also, I can just not use Google but DuckDuckGo which works, their loss.
I was mildly amused with one review where the user said they conduct criminal investigations and they need automatic connection. There is a point there, the app logs you out after an update and it should not. The argument is what if found strange: I would have thought though that the state services that deal with criminal investigations would only use their own security software, but I may be wrong, of course.

As of current in Uganda (where I currently live) only the IKEv2 protocol works. This is due to the telecos blocking VPNs in general. Hopefully NordVPN’s IKEv2 doesn’t die out too.
Anyway, as a result of these blocks, the NordVPN app does tend to freeze when I try other protocols. I usually have to close and reopen the app in order to use it. I’m guessing the app doesn’t quite handle such exceptions/circumstances well.
Aside from this, it would be nice to have the ability to favourite specific servers rather than countries (as is already possible on the NordVPN MacOS/desktop app). I’ve found certain servers from a given country (eg. UK) tend to work, whilst others fail. So I’d appreciate being able to specifically favourite servers I know are functional.

Still more frustrating than it should be

When it works it is great but I’m finding that more and more it fails to connect first time. This is almost always the case when going from wi-fi to 3/4G The app will spend an age trying to connect to the server before timing out. If you wait for the timeout and then click quick connect it try’s another server and connects instantly!
To the dev- if the app can’t connect it should automatically try a different server within a few seconds, I shouldn’t have to wait through the timeout and then initiate quick connect myself. Also, bring back the ability to view and select the specific servers ourselves, this would often speed up reconnecting. Finally- it still logs me out on occasion. Nowhere near as bad as it used to but it does happen.

Big bug requires solution.

So I’m running Mojave on my 3 yr old MacBook Pro. All was ok until last updates. Now I have had to uninstall what can only be described as probably the best VPN out there. When I came to use it today, admittedly not for a while. It wouldn’t let me open tilt up, in stead an annoying pop up of birds stating password required from keychain. After 30 attempts I uninstalled it for the 3rd time but still no luck.
I then went on to Nord website, I logged on as normal but when I came to download the app again this time from YOUR WEBSITE, it sends me to apple. Took the 2 year sub and it seemed okay at first. In the last 3 or 4 months, this app has become a total nuisance especially on my iPad. This is situation became more apparent after the last update. My connection flickers between Wi-Fi and 4G constantly, I can’t get to use certain apps anymore for whatever reason, it blocks my email app which displays errors and doesn’t download emails and then the option to select your preferred server was taken away (used to be able to see available servers in your chosen country and their traffic levels so you choose which you want). Can’t for the life of me understanding the thinking there. The WORST thing is the inability to turn it OFF. Each time I disconnect the VPN stil remains switched on in my Settings, when I turn that off then I get only 4G connection. Within a few seconds the vpn is back on. This felt like total hijack job. So will UNINSTALL it if they are unable to resolve my issues at the 4th time of asking!!! Will find something better and if I don’t...oh well!!!

For the past week I have been not able to use my wifi or data, it’s always been on and off. During the day 60% I was unable to access internet at all on my phone. After doing what not, resetting network settings, restoring phone ect, I concluded that all my wifi and data problems were due to the vpn. I understand that iOS 14 might have come too soon. However, ever since I have updated to iOS 14 I have been unable to use vpn simultaneously with internet. If the VPN is ON, then wifi and data will not work. Once you turn the VPN OFF, then everything starts working. For so many days I struggled and only just realised all the connection problems were due to the VPN being ON. For the time being I will not be using the VPN as it does not allow me to use the internet. Please fix this issue, I am aware that some other VPN apps are also facing the same problem. Please fix this. I love using this service but for the meanwhile it’s only given me stress. Thank you

The APP doesn’t work in China, customer service assumes you want to always revert to manual connections or OPEN VPN, juts fix the APP as that is what I payed for and what I want. Then they say, it’s China, they’re always finding ways of blocking us, well free APPS work better than the paid subscription for Nord! Can’t give minus stars, but poor excuses and poor service and little forward thinking! Yet, advertised everywhere even by bloggers! Did Nord disclose they got hacked in 2018? Only years later...says a lot about the company!
Further to your bulk standard response, i have had detailed conversations with you “customer service department” Constant apologises for the inconvenience caused, and that China is much more clever in blocking us than we are in working around it. Shame the free providers seem to manage it with ease. Now i have found how to connect to the lynx protocol without the APP, i have told customer service this! They want me to have a conservation with the tech team as this shouldn’t work!!!! How wonderful, if i contact you tech department i am sure it will result in it being broken again!! Connects to lynx on the MacBook manually, but not on the iPad.....JOKE!!!!

Widgets and Siri Scripts can be improved

Here is the thing: I don't like every time I want to connect a server from the widget jumps to NordVPN app to show me it is connected: why don't you just show the status of connection in the widget? It's so annoying to have to jump to Nord app every time I want to use VPN. Take a look at Shadowrocket app.
Oh, and you support simple Siri scripts for open and close VPN, that's great of course. But you could make the experience for users who use Siri Shortcuts better by introducing more scripts. For example, return current connect status as a string or return execution status (success or fails) after running a script so that it can be used as an input for next step.
If these problems are solved, I'd willing to give it a 5 star!

Bring back server lists !!

Why, why, why are you removing the list of specific servers in each country in the latest app update? This is the best feature I need when travelling. I need to connect to specific servers otherwise your app is useless to me. Your ‘fastest’ server recommendations are not good and I do not want to be connected by your algorithm automatically.
I have a 3 year subscription ending in October 2020 but unless I can choose specific servers myself ( I do not know the specific server numbers - I choose them from the list in a trial and error manner to decide what works for me ) I will be forced to look for another VPN service.
The app has been great so far for my uses ( apart from a few glitches like logging me out of the account periodically ) and I recommended it to many friends, however the latest ‘UPDATE’ is a a crucial DOWNGRADE in functionality and a deciding factor why I will be forced to look elsewhere for protection.

Had to turn it off to write this review!

I’ve been an advocate of NordVPN for over a year. I still have nearly three years of my subscription left to go. However, since the latest update it flat out refuses to connect to a server or the VERY rare time it does it works for a few minutes and then nothing. As soon as you turn off the VPN everything is fine. Tonight I have spent over an hour trying to connect to the internet via NordVPN. No matter what settings, protocols or things I try (I’ve been in contact with support for o er a week) nothing works. The support team are quick and courteous but it’s the same old turn it off and on again. Reset the profile, redownload etc. I’ve done EVERYTHING twice over and I’m here now in complete frustration and deleted the app. I’m sure it works for the many but for me, since the update it no longer works and I’ve had enough. By all means give it a shot but every update brought a big bug for me. This last one finally killed it.

This app is awesome, I’ve got it on my iPhone, Samsung galaxy tab a and my laptop and it works amazingly on all but you’ll get the best use out of it on laptops/desktops.
You wouldn’t believe how great it is to be able to surf the web using far better search engines than google with the knowledge you’re completely safe from hackers malware and not having nosy government agencies spying on every single site you visit or product you bought it’s fantastic also you don’t need to worry about any site you visited selling your data on to the highest bidder so would stop most spam that’s sent using that data, and the price is unbelievable for peace of mind like that you can also use six separate devices with it at once double what expressvpn offers for nearly triple the price.
In my opinion if you download the app first you get 7 free days to try it before they take payment so if it’s not for you in those days you’ve nothing to lose I only wish I’d got this ages ago utterly fantastic love it.

Advertised on tv, internet searches and on some packaging I’ve seen floating around.
I personally sought out a good VPN via numerous reviews on websites and ended up on which? and this was recommended there.
NordVPN has simplistic and refined server options from various countries to choose from. It is laid out like a global map or from a drop down list. Has options to block those annoying game ads and even malware. There is also a few selections to enable onion over VPN or tor browsing for more security against government firewalls, for example, within China.
It is from my experience the pros of NordVPN:
1) works almost instantly from turning on phone.
2) is reliable when it needs to be.
3) has various user friendly options.
4) worldwide useable servers.
5) always updating and additional servers.
6) full plans have tech support giving great response time and assistance.
Cons:
1) has frequent “hanging on” before connection to some servers resulting in delays.
2) kills in an instant the user browser and can sometimes lose place.
3) can frequently reconnect and jump to other servers.
4) if wrongly updated can brick the app on any devices used with them.
All in all, when this app works and the VPN is doing its job, I find it does me justice and well. I would recommend if it irons out the issues I’ve raised and gives more time to the detail of the app before rushing out updates which can cause some to brick.

Some speed slowdown, but good reliable connection

I took advantage of the special deal of 75% off the 3 year subscription, which meant I paid almost the same for that than I would of for one year with my previous provider. So far, so good. Reliable connection with many servers throughout the world. I do see some marked decrease in my download speed, almost 50% sometimes, but it’s still fast enough for my needs. It’s the games console I really need the speed for, and seeing as my console does not go via VPN, it’s not really a problem. I initially had an issue where my Outlook and OneDrive would not sync on my Mac after using NordVPN, but a quick chat with their support service provided the remedy. So, I am happy with NordVPN.

Having seen NordVPN been promoted by a few China based Youtubers I decided that I’d give Nord a go on my next trip.
I signed up via the website, going for month long subscription was the option that suited me. I tested things out before I left and everything seemed fine and I was able to connect to different servers all over the world.
However when I arrived in China I had a couple of issues:
1 was unable to get a Wi-fi connection at all. Couldn’t understand it until I tried my old phone without an NordVPN setup and I could get on, albeit behind the great fire wall. Found by turning off the connect on demand option in the iPhones VPN settings, under the NordVPN section I was able connect to WiFi.
2 couldn’t get any servers to work, kept on timing out. Sent an email to the support team and they replied very quickly with a work around to create a manual vpn connection. Which worked but it is not as convenient as using the app to pick and choose the server based on speed/country.
So now I’m not using the app and have a number of servers manually setup I can use the service that I’ve paid for, it’s just not via the app. For time I’ve paid for a vpn, seems to be ok, I’m not streaming but do have access to all connect that I want to connect to from China.
Would have been 4 star review if I was able to use the app. I’ll see how the rest of my trip goes and decide if I use Nord again on future trips

Double VPN and other features not on iOS?!

It works well as a normal VPN, but I am very disappointed that the Double VPN “great” feature is NOT available on iOS after being told by app support! I don’t know how many more great features are actually not available. I pay for the full package with all features, it should be made available! I felt I was misled into buying the subscription, I have not found any where on their website about which feature is available which is not to my platform and device.
Updated : thanks for reply. I am now able to use it on my desktop, but as I described, it is not available for iOS that I used the most, iPhone and iPad. The lack of this feature on iOS platform is NOT clear at tall on your website! Please consider clarify this on your site.

I am keen on the rights of privacy governments, organisations or other individuals do not have the right to collect data on our use of technology so very keen on VPN services for day to day use. Purchased NordVPN and works well across all my devices however the VPN itself drops ALOT! even when I am on the same network connection and not moving. What this means is, time and time again my internet or news search will stop. I then have to open the app cancel the VPN reconnect, which never reconnects by the way and then manually initiate another connection and resume what i was doing very very frustrating! Security and privacy you do get when connected, the user experience needs to be improved maybe look at alternatives.

iPhone XS persistently restarts with Killswitch active

Unfortunately Killswitch does not seem to be compatible with the iPhone XS iOS 12.1.4 - in the fact when active it forces the the iPhone to restart persistently when your phone is not in use.
This is not immediately apparent until you come to use Face ID. Or you’re lucky enough to be looking at your phone when a restart occurs. This problem does not happen when the phone is in use and there are no error logs recorded.
This can happen 2-3 times per hour. And I believe this to be an issue with Apples firmware and battery health monitor restarting due to not being able to obtain data signals to your provider.
It happens both on 4G and wireless connections. Other than this very annoying and hard to find fault the service and app work great. It’s just unfortunate it took me 3 days to pinpoint the app responsible as this ruined my brand new iPhone experience.
When an update is released fixing this issue I will remove my one star review for one that reflects the otherwise great App.
For those not wanting to use the Killswitch feature the VPN will work just fine however you may need to manually force connection through the app from time to time. Or more pointlessly manually configure VPN access outside of the NordVPN app

I’ve been using Nord VPN for about 9 months and have had an excellent online experience.
Previously I had a 1 year subscription with “Ivacy”. Was well pleased with them but was looking for a vpn to cover additional hardware (my PCs, laptop, iPad and iPhone). Did considerable research to check that the VPN I went with would tick all my boxes. My shortlist came down to “Ivacy” or NordVPN. NordVPN is not the cheapest but cost is only one consideration amongst many. NordVPN is easy to use (as is “Ivacy”), offers reliable consumer help (as does “Ivacy”) but where NordVPN sneaked ahead was in: multiple device protection, number of worldwide servers and regular updates. I went for the 3 year NordVPN subscription which offers great value for money. Based on my experience to date, I have no hesitation in recommending NordVPN.

Perhaps I am not doing it right.

There is a lot I like about Nord VPN. However, there are several annoying features.
It is good that the user has such a huge choice of servers (world wide) but the main irritation for me is that the connection is forever being lost. What I find perplexing is that I use the VPN on several devices, - 2 iphones (5 and 6) two ipads (3&6) an old Macbook Pro and a Windows Laptop. From time to time, the iphones and the latest ipad seem to remain on the chosen server
for long periods, whereas occasionally the connection lasts an hour or two. With the Macbook, the VPN disconnects whenever the Macbook is shut down, and AUTOMATICALLY reconnects on start up, - brilliant! Also, I have noticed that I cannot surf the net when VPN is connected. I have to leave the VPN server, surf, then switch the VPN back on, which is unsatisfactory. This is not ALWAYS true, so even more frustrating.
I recently took a contract to receive BT SPORT via the app, which I can cast to my TV. Very often, though, I get a message that I cannot receive BT SPORT as I am outside the EU, and I assume this is because BT cannot determine my location when I am on VPN. Of course, this problem may be a problem for BT not Nord.

finally a simple VPN. it has plenty of countries and the connection speeds are great on mobile and on PC. this VPN actually stays connected and 98% of the time, you won’t need to load the app to reconnect if the connection does drop. it works fine over WiFi and mobile data and protects you well. this app also has a useful feature called a kill switch, when enabled if the connection does drop, the app will prevent any internet activity to protect your privacy. if your big on privacy like me then NordVPN is the one for you.
be wary though that if you use it on mobile internet then you will need to make sure that you have a decent mobile connect such as 4G or 3G. remember this is an internet based app and needs the internet to connect to it. your unlikely to get this to work on Edge or 2G if at all due to the slow speeds of the mobile connection on 2G. despite the bad press this app gets it actually does what it says on the tin 99% of the time and that’s good enough for me.
