Description

Barclays Video Call lets you have a confidential conversation with us. It’s a convenient alternative to visiting a branch to talk about your banking needs, and with a good Wi-Fi connection, it’s free to use.
You can access the app from the Barclays Mobile Banking app for on-demand queries.
Alternatively, if you have a Relationship Manager, you can make an appointment with them. They’ll then send you an invitation email confirming the date and time of your review with details on how to access it.
How to register and access Barclays Video Call
• Barclays Video Call uses a separate app – if you don’t already have it, you’ll need to install it
• You can start your call from the Barclays Mobile Banking app (to talk about your personal banking) or barclays.co.uk/contact-us (to talk about a mortgage)
• If you would like to discuss your accounts, you will need to identify yourself once connected
• If you’ve received an invite to a call from us, please click the link in the email to start
* To keep your money safe, Barclays Video Call won’t operate on a rooted or jailbroken phone*

Frustrating

Tried to open young person bank account and spent two weeks trying over and over again to make contact. After launch you get either told there is no one available or put in a queue for a team member with a count of your place in the queue (usually 50!) the number drops in my experience about ever 2 mins but at some point it it changes to “sorry there has been a glitch” not funny if you been queuing for an hour and a half!! Once got down to no 4 in the queue before the glitch screen. Given up and got account with Halifax

Shocking customer service

So far I am up to two weeks in to try to open an account for my son, including hours on the chat and video que.
The app constantly fails to connect, the button on the app disappears taking multiple reboots to restore.
What ever happened to being able to make an appointment to go into a local branch.

Terrible app

I have waited in the queue twice now, it starts with 50 people and very slowly goes down to what you hope is your turn. What happens though is it crashes before it gets to your turn. I have now wasted over two hours trying to use this service. It’s a total waste of time.

Broken

This system simply does not work. I’ve tried countless times to connect via video chat but it says “sorry we have been unable to connect you”.
If you have a system in place it’s probably a good idea that you get it to work.
I need to open an account for my daughter but since the branch wasn’t interested and directed me to the app and the app shows no sign of functioning correctly I’ll probably take my business elsewhere rather than waste time retrying over and over again.

Read this first** video call button not showing**

So, first you need to have the Barclays mobile banking app installed and working. Then download this one (Barclays video call app). Go back to the mobile banking app and find the Help Section, scroll to the bottom and there should be an area with three buttons - Chat, Direct Call and Video Banking. If you don’t have the Video Banking app, you have to go in person into a Barclays Bank for them to install it on your phone! I spent hours trying to work out why I wasn’t getting the 3rd button, including updating my mobile banking app etc. The only way to get it is to go into your branch and ask someone to install it - they have to add something to your account on their system. Then it should appear. Good luck. They really need to say this on their bank website instructions!

Total failure

What’s the point creating app for video calling and advertising it if there is no option to use it as it is restricted only to chosen customers. Thanks Barclays for wasting my to figure out how to use the app and ending up with nothing.

After spending 1.5 hours in the queue just to be disconnected due to technical issues I went to Lloyds online banking and opened account in 10 minutes without any problems.

Very poor experience

Tried to connect 5 times each time I was disconnected or my microphone wouldn’t work. No IT help was given. Contacted Apple they said it’s an app developer issue. There is no direct way of seeking help, the link just takes you to a general website. I’ve wasted all my morning on my day off & now it’s too late to take my children out as we have to be somewhere else later. I went into the branch last week & was told I had to do it via the app. Very frustrating. If someone from Barclays could contact me I’d very much appreciate it, so I can resolve my initial enquiry. I wouldn’t even give it a one star rating but it forces you to give one.

Useless App

Not a chance to get through to anybody! I tried plenty of times and every time just as it was my turn, just as I was feeling like I can get through to the light…. I got kicked out and the screen went blank. Or it would just kick me out in the middle of the queue and say: glitch!!!!!

Great for wasting your time

Tried using this app to open an account for my son, wait in the queue for ages then when you get connected it crashes. Tried several times now, no a problem with my wifi as per fob off excuses for other reviews. Shocking app considering the mobile banking app is so good.

Pants!!

Spent an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back to experience a technical fault twice! All I want to do is open my daughter an account prior to her starting a job next week. Can’t get an appointment in the branch!!!

Genuinely, just don’t bother. I really hope that you value your time enough not to use this app, I have waited for 6 hours so far this week just to be connected to one call that then dropped out after about 3 minutes of connection. Fail

Each occasion I have tried, there is a failure to connect with a video banker. I sit in a queue for about an hour only to reach first in queue. Joy sets in only to see the screen change to all black and then moves on to my background with folder showing banking apps. I expect better than this. Can’t open Young Persons acct in branch for my child and can’t get through with video banking…. Called to ask for assistance and told nothing can be done. Very fustrating!

Tried a year ago to open an account for my 16 yr old son, tried again today, one year later still impossible, think I will have to try a different Bank altogether, shame really as my father banked with Barclays from 1937, with me having an account from 1969, and my son would have been a third generation Barclays customer, still I am sure Lloyds would welcome a new customer.

Unable to open app

Tried for an hour today and two hours the other day, every time it says can’t connect you need to start from either the Barclays Mobile Banking app or the Barclays website, both of which I have tried but it fails. I tried to open a child’s account in branch and was told I needed to do it online, it’s useless, you have tested my patience so much I’m now going to take our business elsewhere

Disappointed

Having not been able to open an account with a human in the branch despite making a 45 minute journey to get to the closest branch. They advised me to use video call otherwise it was a month long wait for an appointment in school time hours!!
This app DOESN'T WORK. Cuts out the minute you get through!

I’ve not even started using this and problems…!

Before you think you can use it, you need to contact an impossibly difficult bank to let them know so they can ‘flag’ your account to use the video app.
I love that the bank are making things helpful for those who can’t get in to see a bank. But how difficult is it to leave a message to say contact the bank to set this up!!!
(By the looks of other’s experiences, I’m not looking forward to using it either! Looking forward to making this a much nicer review!)

GARBAGE…!!!!

Having tried for weeks to get through on this GARBAGE app, simply to open an account for my teenage son, this GARBAGE bank came up with every reason NOT to let him have an account!
Wanted to know all of MY personal details: salary, take home pay - and admitted this was so they could send ME targeted marking and advertising!!!
When I said they didn’t need this information and shouldn’t be asking for it, they refused to progress with the application for my son.
Absolute disgrace!!!
Barclays have closed all of our local branches so we cannot even call in person.
This bank clearly doesn’t want any new accounts, nor values existing long time customers.
AVOID THIS GARBAGE BANK AND APP AT ALL COSTS.
Would rate at zero stars if the app allowed.

Another rubbish from Barclays

I’m trying to use the app, however, it’s not working. Everything was done as shown on Barclays website. I haven’t even got a video call option on my mobile app, only call or text. Unbelievable service. When I chat, the ai suggest to use this app. The app doesn’t work, when I call in, the ai doesn’t want to put me through to a person, by the time I get to the bank after work, it’s too late to talk to someone. Barclays has dropped the standard sadly.

Horrible

I’ve been waiting 2 hours only to be told that there was a technical difficulty. I wanted to open an account for my daughter but never got the chance to so I’ve decided to go with NatWest, which has a very fast and easy way to open your account. It was user friendly and takes a few minutes unlike Barclays system which takes hours.

Childrens Account

Tried opening up two childrens account for months now. I went into the Barclays Bank in Cardiff Town they said I wouldnt have been able to use video bank as they needed to download something first. When we got home tried again 37 in que at 7pm at 8:10pm I was 1 in que then they cut me off at 8:25pm 🤦‍♀️ Mixed emotions 🤨

Child account

Been trying to use the video service to open a child account for over 3 months - I queue, sometimes fir ages, sometimes just a few minutes but as soon as goes to connect me the app shuts, it’s happened dozens of times. My app is apparently up to date, my iPhone updates are up to date and my WiFi is working. Helpline didn’t know how to resolve other than try another device which I don’t have - but they could see it was happening every time I tried. The local branch refused to deal with it and say the only way is via video call. So that’s it, tried so hard but now only option is go to a different bank

Amazing customer service

I was on video call to a very polite lady which unfortunately cut short due to communication issues.
After waiting just a couple of minutes I was then redirected to Emma who was very helpful and kept me updated with the process of my accounts.
Other than the signal cutting off, I am extremely happy with the service I received from both video callers and appreciate the help In which they both provided.

Terrible!

Constantly crashes, if you do manage to be in a queue it can be a long one! I tried to open a bank account for my son & was told to use this Barclays video banking by the branch staff (why I wasn’t allowed to open an account when I’m stood in front of the bank staff is anyones guess!) this app constantly crashes and the ‘online chat’ staff just say keep connected and have patience. But if the app keeps ‘having technical difficulties’ it’s not ‘user error’!! On the 4th attempt I was 50th in the queue and waited patiently but when I reached 40th in the queue the app stopped and the screen (yet again) reverted to ‘we’re having technical difficulties please call or use our chat service’.
Tried 5 times to use this app to open an account. Each time it had problems. I’ve tried in person at a branch of Barclays, tried calling and tried the chat. Couldn’t open a bank account with Barclays so went to Santander!

A great idea which doesn’t work in practice

Generally join this at around 50th in the queue, gaining about 2 places a minute so a tolerable wait in theory - except that :
a) The app always throws me out with a technical glitch after 30 mins plus of queuing (my record is 20th)
b) Once you get to 30th you realise that most of your progress in the queue is due to people ahead of you giving up or being disconnected
The purpose of this app is to make banking more convenient and less time consuming. It would do that if it had been properly inplemented and tested. Unfortunately I’d have been much quicker going into a branch. On that basis I’d give it zero starts if I could.

Really disappointing

Wanted to open an account for my son. The video app would not connect no matter the time of day or my position in the queue. To make matters worse, I was 23rd in the queue one Sunday evening at 5pm, it took 3 hours to get from 23rd to 3rd in the queue only to cut me off as the video call centre closes at 8pm. Called up to speak to someone the next day and they accepted it was unacceptable but couldn’t establish why the video calling wouldn’t work. So sent me to a local branch to open the account. The wait for an appointment was 8weeks! Called back and the operative told me they would get the branch manager to call me, that was 2 weeks ago and no call. Terrible service

Useless app. Very frustrating.

I’ve just wasted another 2 hours trying to get through on this app. I tried last week with exactly the same result. I wait in the queue for over an hour and as soon as I get to the front the app closes and when I go back I’ve been disconnected. This has happened twice this evening and happened twice the last time I tried. So around 4 hours wasted trying to get through. Phone support is useless and just tell me there’s nothing wrong with the app – I beg to differ.
Only giving 1 star because it won’t let me leave a zero star review. When the sole purpose of the app is to allow video calls and it doesn’t do that even 1 star is being generous.

Brilliant

I read most reviews before downloading it. Mostly negative feedback but I felt it is absolutely brilliant. Had bit difficult to connect first but not big issue. Process of opening account for my son is absolutely smooth, can’t find anything wrong using app.

Terrible, terrible, terrible

I have been a Barclays customer for 23 years and have never had any complaints until now.
I wanted to open 2 savings accounts for my boys and was told in branch that I could do it via the video app as I had no appointment.
I had no problem downloading the app and it worked seamlessly with my banking app. I started a call and told I was in a queue, no problem I thought, and then I was told there was a glitch and it cut out. I tried again and waited over half an hour until I was next in the queue. Guess what? Technical glitch and I was cut off.
I was advised to use the chat option. They were no help, they blamed the pandemic for low amounts of staff. Not good enough Barclays, it’s been 18 months and other services have coped. I even tried waiting on the phone but that was no use, it asked if I had the app. As I said yes, it ended the call.
I then decided to go to another branch without an appointment. The staff asked if I was ok at the door and I explained how disappointed i was. They immediately apologised and said they could open the accounts for me immediately.
Please sort the app out. I wasted over 2 hours of my time.

Disappointment

I am very sad to say this but I’m quite disappointed that I have not been able to open an account. For the last couple of days I have constantly tried to join a video call - but have still failed. It has always without fail said that there has been technical difficulties where there has been nothing wrong with my End of the line. I also would like to say that I understand that you may have been busy over the summer break but this still does not mean that other people can have there problems fixed but I can’t. I can also understand that due to covid and people working at home and all over the place it may have been a little bit more challenging for you and your colleagues but this does still not change the fact that I’ve been waiting for nearly a week to get a new account. I have tried many times to go into town to set one up but the have been massive queues that have made me decide to do it via the app at home. Adding to the statement above I have gone into the store to and my passport was out of date, even thought this can not be helped since we have been in lock down for a very long time and there has been not point for me to look or even touch my passport for i can not go anywhere abroad.
Sorry about the complaint but I thing that there should be some sort of solution to my problem.

Not very good Customer Service

I went into a call using this app to open a new account and they asked me some security questions. I couldn’t hear them properly because they had bad audio and there was this question about if I used the app to call them and I asked them 3 times to repeat it for me. Apparently, if I don’t give an answer during those 3 times they repeat it, I fail answering the security questions and I have to book an appointment. Also, I have been waiting for an hour to get into a call and it wasn’t worth it. I would not recommend using this app because their Customer Service is not good and hopefully, they improve it. The best way to deal something (if it’s related to Barclays) is to go to a branch.

As good as useless.

Needed to add my wife onto an account I have for rental income from buy to let’s, thus making it a joint account.
Rang Barclays and after a while on hold was told it was an “in branch” job. However, the branch staff weren’t doing face to face meetings with customers due to Covid.
I was told to download the video app and use that. App downloaded and opened, we just kept getting a message to open via main banking app, however there was no option or way of opening video app from there.
Launched a live chat via main app and was told to close apps and relaunch main app first.
Absolutely no difference. Main app can’t see video app and video app just has error message.

Really easy

When I was told I needed to do a video chat and I read the reviews, I was dreading doing it.
Downloaded app. Went back to banking app, opened video app via that. Was able to see queue position. Was position 12 and call was answered within around 5 mins.
Spoke to a really lovely lady, professional and friendly.

Video Banking

I used the Barclays Video Banking app for the first time a few days ago to successfully open a Children’s Instant Saver account. The app was fairly straightforward to use & the member of staff I saw & spoke to was very helpful. I’ll keep the app in case I ever need to use it again in future.
It took between 10-15 mins for an agent to answer my call but I’d anticipated a longer wait anyway having read some reviews from other people who’d used the app previously. Overall I had a positive experience of the app.

Pointless

Trying desperately to open an account for my baby boy as he’s received a few cheques in his own name now. Managed to use Live Chat to get the Video Call link activated on the Barclays App and installed this Video Banking App no problem. The reason this app is pointless is because no matter how good my internet connection is I cannot connect to anyone! I must have tried 10 times over the past week, spent hours sat in the queue only for the screen to eventually go black (assume this is when someone tries to speak to me) and the app closes. I’ve tried reinstalling the app, restarting my phone - useless. Not sure what to do now...

Great service

I read the reviews and I was a bit skeptical but my call was answered within 10 minutes. I made sure to turn my auto lock off to never so it didn’t close. Got everything I needed done (opened my sons bank account), set up standing orders, also guided on how to cash in my cheque. Saves me the trip of having to go into a branch. Thanks Jake!

Quick and simple

Expected to wait at least half an hour before being connected but was connected after 5 minutes. Only negative things was that it did not tell me an approximate wait time and when it connected me to someone the screen went all blurry and grey at first. The person I spoke to was very helpful.

Just awful

Unfortunately I’ve been trying to reach someone on video banking for hours, tried different times of the day and spent over 2 hours in one call and no result. It says I’m next in the queue, although it’s obviously no one is there to take the call. Although I understand the pandemic situation, I think there is no excuse to leave someone wait for more than 2 hours on the phone. Then the app crushes and says “technical glitch!”. Your brancn opening hours are terrible as well, 10-15 ??? People are working 9-5 jobs, how am I supposed to solve my issues? Online banking? Except that it just doesn’t work, you cannot reach anyone. My advice is to avoid Barclays and go for other banks. There are better out there.

It just doesn’t work!

Was advised to download the app by the Barclays chat, so my son could open a student account, as despite registering an interest, Barclays have not contacted him, and he is off to uni in 7 days.
Downloaded the app, and great I’m next in the queue, but after an hour hanging on, I was still next in the queue and then a technical glitch message popped up, advised me to ring, try the chat on app, or try later. I tried the chat to find out if service was back up & running, I tried calling, but impossible to speak to a person, and so tried again later. Same thing, I was next in the queue, for an hour, then it threw me out with the same technical glitch message.
Time to look at different banks.

Can’t get through...

Went into Barclays to open an account for my son as he needs a card to pay contactless on the bus / tram when he starts college. Was told I needed an appointment, nothing available until October and the quickest and easiest way is video banking. Downloaded the app but the video icon didn’t appear in my banking app, went back to branch and they installed it again for me. Been trying now for 4 days, at various times but always get a message after about 45 minutes in the queue to say ‘technical glitch’ or ‘oops you’ve been disconnected’. Very frustrating.

Video banking

Went into local Barclays today and rang through to the video app which said we were next in the queue. Having read the reviews I wasn’t hopeful but after about 35 minutes our call was answered. The banker Natalie was friendly and spoke to my daughter to explain how we set up a account for her with a debit card. It was pretty straightforward as I’m already a customer but when it comes to uploading your documents like a passport it can be quite tricky if you had no knowledge as we were not given any instructions but my daughter managed to do this after a bit. Maybe have a basic instruction leaflet in the branch for people to refer too?
We now wait five days for her card. Maybe the waiting times are better in the branch? The staff were very friendly and helpful to us.

Really helpful

Despite all the negative reviews I decided to give this a try to open an account for my daughter & it was brilliant. Yes I had to wait a little while for my call to be answered (approx 30 mins) but when don’t you have to wait when you call a company? With regards to the app being closed if your phone locks, I simply turned that function off on my phone & it remained open whilst I waited so that was easily solved. We have awful WiFi in our area but I had no connection issues. The lady I spoke with (Jan) was extremely helpful & friendly & we were able to open a children’s saver account easily & quickly. Personally had a good experience of this app & would use it again in the future!

Very poor technology

I just moved to UK and the bank asked me to download this app for video appointment. It’s so hard to download. Keep saying need to change country/region and after I change also still cannot. I cannot believe this kind of very poor technology are using in United Kingdom. So much different from my last country (Singapore) which is very high technology and customer care. Such a shame... I spend two days to download this app and end up need to create new Apple ID because of this ( I was using my old Apple ID for 6years). If I can choose 0 star, I want to give zero star

Very Useful

I was able to open a child current & savers account using the app. I waited about 20mins for the call to be answered, it then took 45mins to open the account which is the same as it would of been in branch except they have no appointments for a month!
Option to call directly from my Barclays app would be better, was taken to a few separate pages before it directed me to the video call app, that was a little confusing. An accurate call waiting time would be helpful along with a dial tone, wasn’t sure if I was connected. Minor things but would make it a little better.

Used this to open an account alongside my current one and it was a great system. Took a tiny bit longer than visiting a branch but is expected as the operators are working from home.
Would have liked to have been able to leave a review for the person handling my call however.

Completely useless

After spending 2 hours on telephone banking trying to open an account because the video call option was not available on the app only to then to be told that I needed to speak to another help desk to get it activated on my account. Got that bit sorted eventually.
Then tried to use the video banking app and waited on hold but after being the next in the queue for 40 minutes I gave up.
Opened an account at NatWest in 10 minutes online.
Such a bad experience all round. You would have thought trying to open an account would be easy, not with Barclays it seems.

Worst app and customer service

As it is difficult to use money at the moment due to Covid I have been trying and trying to arrange to get debit cards for my children. This video app doesn’t work. I have tried and tried over the last two weeks and it never connects even after waiting for over half an hr. I have also rung to make appointments in branch. I have been in branch and told no appointments. I’ve been told I have to go to certain branches of which my nearest is 45mins just to make the appointment and then I have to go back for the appointment. Why can’t I ring and speak to someone at that branch to make appointment instead of wasting 5hrs of my time going backwards and forwards and wasting expensive petrol.... frankly terrible service. And please don’t use Covid as an excuse. If I can make an appointment by going in branch why can’t I do it on the phone! And get your video app working.....

Waste of time

Been waiting ages to get to video call someone as due to COVID there are no appointments at branch. (Which I have also waiting ages in a phone call queue, which I got through to no one. And then outside the branch to be told to be told to do it on this app).
I have tried multiple times and have waiting over 15 minutes to get through. Got through to someone and the call dropped twice (I have full WiFi signal so nothing to do with my side) and then finally get through to someone and it doesn’t drop but then there is no sound at my end. The operator holds up a sign to check my audio setting. Then after about waiting 20 seconds the call drops or she hung up! Thanks! What a waste of time!
Suppose I better go either wait in a another long queue to either get in to the branch or to speak to someone on the phone.
PS still don’t know how to check my audio setting on the app. The microphone is switched on and all my audio is working fine on other apps.

Really bad

I first downloaded this app when I wanted to set up my child a children’s account. After what took ages to make a video call I then waited for 2 hours in the queue and still not served, also such a hassle having to tap the screen every 19 seconds for my phone not to turn off, if they want to make this a good app it than they need to respond faster, I’ve also tried in different times of the day, I tried morning where I spent over an hour in the queue with still no response, I tried in the day and again over an hour of waiting with no response, I even tried evening still over an hour waiting still no response. So I have spend practically all my day in the queue to set up a children’s bank account and I still haven’t been able to do so.

The first time I tried to use it I was waiting 20mins but, because I called during normal banking hours, the lady I got through to wasn’t trained to help. She suggested times to call back. I kept trying and giving up after waiting a while. My advice - BE PREPARED TO WAIT! I persevered and was so glad I did. I spoke to a lovely chap called Ross. He was so helpful and even called me back on my mobile when the video call froze. It’s not perfect but saved me a trip into the branch so was worth the wait. Be patient!

Outstanding service - genuinely!

Early this morning I contacted the night shift on this Video banking app.
Mr. Leigh Cutter answered within seconds. He was able to get me through security quickly and promptly and solve my banking problem efficiently and with ingenuity, resulting in me not having to call back or contact other agencies. Leigh had customer comfort and convenience forefront in mind in his solution to the problem, and even at the tail end of his night shift was very astute and great to chat with.
Summary - very quick service if calling out of hours. Great customer service. So refreshing!

What’s the point!

If I could give half a star I would!!
Downloaded the app and waited 45 mins to be connected to an advisor despite it saying I was next in the queue. (Never did get through, got fed up with waiting) I am 7hrs behind the UK and was wondering why would it be so busy at 2.30am GMT? Why give us(the customer) another option to connect with a family bank and not answer up. There was a time when Barclays would call me asking me how I was and how the service was, now you can’t access them via video, call(several occasions on hold for nearly 2 hrs before hanging up) and chat, and when you do live chat there is very little they can do for you!
What’s the point, very disappointed in Barclays right now.

Some help for new downloads....Log in to the website and not the app and go to “make a video call”

Downloaded the Barclays Video app, then logged into my mobile banking via the website. Clicked onto the account I wanted to open (Childrens) and clicked onto Video banking down the bottom of the page. It took me to another page and at the bottom says “Make a video call” pressed this and it took me to another page where my iPhone suggested I “open the app” that way it automatically started making the call. It was silent so make you think nothing is happening and the iPhone locks if you don’t keep touching the screen (this would need to change) and it took about 30 mins for someone to answer. Finally answered and I was able to open a child’s account with a lovely man named Jason D! Thank you! Cool app, just needs some tweaking. “Sound on calling, giving an estimated time perhaps, and for the screen to not lock after.”

Made opening a child’s account so easy!

Used the app today to open my daughter’s child account. Only waited a few mins to be connected to a lovely lady at Barclays who took myself and daughter through the whole account opening process which was a breeze. Saved us having to make an appointment in the branch at impractical times, paying for parking etc. Very impressed!

Utterly hopeless

Tried to open a bank account for my son. The local branch would not afford me an appointment, telling me that video banking is the way to go. Downloaded the app and spent two frustrating hours trying to connect. After a long-ish wait, the app would cut out, leaving me guessing whether I was disconnected at a point of being answered, or perhaps, I was just pushed from the queue. I have a very strong WiFi connection... Frustrated, as is my son, who really needs his banking sorted ASAP. No wonder that traditional banks have such poor image with young people... I shall be trotting back to the Branch tomorrow demanding an appointment, again!

Useless & doesn’t work

So having gone into branch to try to set up an appointment to open my children’s accounts only to be told there were none for a week but to try this – I did. Pointless task.
Having read the reviews here I’d decided on a two strikes and you’re out rule. Half an hour wasted - once disconnected by the frankly patronising Ooops message (as experienced by others). I then took to the phoning method to book the appointment whilst still holding on the video call.
Also hapless there with the customer service operator struggling with the idea of a surname (not her fault just needed better training), and offering me appointments in the week when the children are in school. This took at least 20 minutes – I was still holding on the video call of course by the time I had (finally) made the branch appointment, which is rather ridiculously three weeks from now. This is despite there being at least four staff in the branch earlier and an empty appointment room – this is so poor it’s unbelievable. At Virgin Money (where my children’s savings accounts are) they spot people coming in and offer appointments on the spot if they have staff.
Long and short here though – this app and the service don’t work. Back to work on it Barclays!

Simply doesn’t work

Simply doesn’t work!!
Can’t see ‘video call’ on my banking app, despite checking I have the latest version. Have opened a chat to be told that if I go via the Barclays website I can use it that way, so closed the chat and that didn’t work either. Couldn't go back to the chat as it closes when app does.
Went into the branch and had member of staff look at my phone (there wasn’t anyone available to open a young person’s account in the branch - told me to do via the app’s video call ..... #bangsheadagainstwall)They then told me that I would receive and email invitation within 24 hours to video call. They told me they hadn’t experienced any problems with the video chat (I suspect untrue!).A week later and still nothing....
I have banked with Barclays for years and use them for business banking also. My son wants to open his first account and they have made it virtually impossible. Sort it out Barclays. Quite simply, not good enough.
Thinking of moving my numerous account and my husband’s elsewhere!

Poorest ‘new’ service ever

Have tried to use the service for the first time today at least 3 times and have spent a total of nearly 2 hours on hold (or, as they call it, ‘in the queue’)! Started off on queue positions 24th, 22nd and 19th respectively. On each occasion, after a lengthy wait exceeding 40 minutes, I advanced to position 11 and, suddenly, the connection froze! This was nothing to do with the quality and supply of my internet service and WiFi, which are very reliable.
If Barclays Video service can not afford additional staff when demand is very high, why not start by offering the service at off-peak times only, so that you can at least manage the service at fixed times of the day, before rolling out the service 24/7, which you cannot handle! That’s poor planning in my view.

Hopeless

I tried at least 8 times over the past week to connect via video banking to open a children’s account. On each occasion I get down the wait queue until it’s my turn at which point I’m disconnected. Surely an app that is designed for the specific purpose of adding convenience should have such a fault fixed before launching on the unsuspecting public?!!
Second star is awarded for the one time I did get through (after a 30min wait) and was able to successfully make a transfer. For anyone wondering, I didn’t also set up the child account during this call because the child in question was out!

Excellent

Downloaded the app and used this for the first time yesterday to open an account for my son, got through to an agent called Kevin, he was very polite and extremely helpful and a pleasure to talk to. Had no problems getting through at all, so much easier than having to go into the bank and being able to do it at whatever time suits you. It’s a 10 out of 10 from me.. will definitely use this app again.

App terrible 1 hour of waiting and them disconnected!!’

I have been a Barclays client for about 3 years. Yesterday, I tried to open another bank account for my daughter so I went to the Dalston Barclays’s branch where they told me to open by using this terrible and useless app. I went home and I downloaded the app. I tried to connect me and I had to wait 1 hour and 10 minutes for a queue. When my turn arrived, I had been disconnected. This happens multiple times even today. I went to the Barclays branch again and I explained everything. I asked to open an account there but they told me that the next appointment will be in 1 month!!!!! Ridiculous!!!! There is something wrong with this system. Even the public post office in the 80’ was more efficient!

First video call

Brilliant, I started the video call 2nd in line, I was only waiting for 10minutes then my call began. I was online for almost 2 hours and never lost connection. I would definitely use again, especially as it’s a 24/7 service and working full time makes it difficult to get appointments out of work hours. Brilliant app Barclays. Brilliant service from Lissa too.

Total waste of time

UPDATE - Received a limp response from Barclays a week later. By that point I’d seen the light and have opened a Monzo account for my 17 year old daughter. Her loyalties can start to build with an organisation that values its customers. She could see that it was a painless, glitch free process and is delighted.
Should have believed all the other reviews. Despite strong WiFi signal I waited almost an hour to get to the front of the queue - and was then left ‘hanging’ with ‘connecting you to an adviser’ for a further 20 minutes - at which point I gave up. Total waste of time. I shall now have to take my daughter to the branch as Barclays don’t make the application process available on line. Not sure why I’m being loyal as there are other banks which are closer.

Excellent!

Had issues with BMB and Online Banking for opening a second account and when I rang up I got passed from pillar to post as they didn’t know what the problem was. Don’t have time to go into Branch as they kept suggesting so I used the video banking option. It was my 1st time trying it so I was a bit skeptical but I got straight through in less than 10minutes and the Personal Banker was so helpful and got it all sorted dead easy. Amazing!

Frustrating irritating app that disconnects when it feels like it!

I’ve spent over 3 and half hours trying to be connected and finally when I do it disconnects! The first time I got through to someone was in 2 hours and she asked me to take a photo of my ID and the minute I did this and was trying to reconnect back to her, the phone cuts off!! This app is useless. Stop complicating things and just put a online application for children aged 11-17. You can’t even get an appointment in a Barclays branch without waiting for a least a week! I don’t have that time. I really detest Barclays honestly over the recent years they have been such a nuisance with their services.

Total nonsense

I know you are trying something new that other banks do not offer, but seriously you need to get the basics right first. After 2 hours of trying and sitting in queue after queue each time just as I am connecting I get a message saying 'oops you've disconnected'. This has happened about 10 times in a row and I have now lost patience. I would pop in to my branch to do my banking but seeing as though you have no online appointment system and I cannot just pop in without one then I might add well just move to one of the challenger banks who actually care about their customers.
