A couple of improvements but all in all, nothing better out there

I think that this is an excellent app and a natural upgrade from Fender Play which lacks in intermediate skills. As a blind user I also find it quite useable as the audio is very detailed and therefor does not require sight to continue my journey, there are also some very helpful tips on gear and setup which seems lacking in other apps.

Most songs also cover multiple guitar parts like rhythm, lead and enhancements, how the song was played in the studio AND how conversion to a single guitar player can be managed. What ore could you ask for?

Well....

If I were to suggest any improvements, it would be the following

1: under the history, it is very confusing (especially to the visually impaired) as to which section relates to what song. Only the chapter names are listed. Personally, I think this too much detail as each chapter can be accessed directly from the song. It would be better if only the song title appeared in the history rather than chapter name which does not relate to anything.

2. More popular songs from popular artists. There are a little t of great songs ipavailable but equally, a lot of albums songs rather than popular singles. Also as a resident of the UK, it would be great to have songs which have made it across the pond as I think a lot of the songs are purely US based and unknown.

3. Sometimes when you have the app running on the iPad and go off to make a coffee or something, when you come back and restart the iPad (which has gone into sleep mode), the app thinks it has lost connection, can't reconnect and you have to shut the app down and re-open it

Apart from that though, keep up the good work.

Amazing lessons

I have been learning guitar the past six years. Ever since I started lessons with Guitar Tricks, I am enjoying playing guitar more. Amazing lessons! I can recommend to anyone.

The app!!!!

Looks like a good system to help learn. However I say “look” as that’s about all I can do, as the app is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!!

Put on a backing track went back to a another screen. No way to turn off the backing track.

It’s very glitchy. No way to landscape video.

So my review is about the app use.

Shame as would’ve liked to use GT

App is dreadful but content is good

Like others I'd say whatever video player software they are using needs a massive upgrade, awfully buggy and often unuseable

The worst thing for me though is the navigation in the lessons, it's so easy to totally loose track of where you are. I've resorted to taking screenshots of the lesson I was last on to give me a hope of finding it again next week.

Looks very very dated, needs an update to keep me using or I'll start looking elsewhere

Good learn guitar app

Tried a few of these apps. This one I think is the best. Lessons are structured very well. Only reason I put 4 stars is because I was expecting some more songs. There’s a lot of songs but as an example there’s only one Hendrix (hey joe) I could find. Who doesn’t want to learn all the Hendrix classics. Worth a subscription regardless as you still learn a lot.

Average app, superb tutorials.

The app is pretty basic. Good enough if you want to pickup where you left off on the site and plug your phone into you let amp (or similar).

That said, overall GT is an amazing resource and well worth the investment. Tons of videos, clearly organised and supportive tutors/community. I’d argue the best out there.

Only download this app if your willing to purchase most of the content. The saying goes “nothing is free” which is an accurate statement for this app.

I’ve been trying to learn/play for about 22 years now, the lessons put forward by the teachers here are amazing, I’ve been using the “I’m a bit more experienced” section for about 9 days and the way the tutorials are set makes for quick and easy learning, before I was a little stagnant and frustrated, these lessons have taught me how to arrange things I already knew and a lot of new things, I sit down with the lessons for an hour or more each day and every time I walk away wanting to play some more, my fingers are always on the move even when I’m at work, a truly amazing way to learn guitar or just to further your journey, well worth the money, thanks guys, keep it up!!!

The start of a long journey, but with great guidance...

Decided after owning an acoustic guitar for 4 years, and not getting past some self taught basic chords, that support was needed to progress. Checked out several app based options but this looked far the best for an absolute beginner.

Took a deep breath and signed up for a years membership :-)

Only going a week, but have now worked through the basics ( first real learning was I was holding the guitar wrong!) and up to learning simple chords.

The structured learning plan makes sense, and navigation to past/ last lesson is straightforward, so easy to pick up where you left off (or go back a lesson or two to practice again).

The tools are there, so now up to me to invest the time, but I feel confident I will put in the hours to do so.

Also should mention the email contact from Billy, the Guitar Tricks Support Expert, who explained some details of membership via app, that were not covered in the website. Thanks Billy!

Simple and perfect for beginners

I don’t often write reviews but Guitar Tricks seems worthy of the praise. I’m a beginner who started with JamPlay last year but soon got lost in to many options with various teachers, and their app was not as good as the website which is never a good thing.

Back into learning again this year and Guitar Tricks seem to have it nailed. The app is simple to use and the learning route and quality has improved my playing great already. The tutors are straight to the point and everything you watch is genuinely useful with no padding.

The app sometimes suffers from videos failing to load after being open a while on my iPad Pro but a restart always fixes it. That’s the only improvement I’d make.

Online guitar lessons are really good but the app is rubbish. Videos don't buffer properly so hard to keep in time and not a good layout to navigate the app.

Great lessons

Guitar tricks offers a massive range of lessons which are all very well put together and have helped me a lot with my guitar playing.

App lacks some of the functionality of the website but works well and the lessons are just as good!

Excellent App and Tutorials

This App helped me get back into playing guitar again. I played through my teens but with one thing and another stopped playing. Picked a guitar backup 15 years later and realised I had forgotten a lot. Started with guitar tricks and my playing is getting backup up to speed. I also realised that there were lots of gaps in my knowledge. Guitar tricks has handy bite size lessons that are easy to engage with. You can print off the supporting material from there website which is handy. All in all an excellent app which is worth the money I spend on the subscription each month.

Nothing trial or free

I wanted to check out ONE song but no, not a single thing is available in this app without me upgrading. I am going back to Yousician. Can't be arsed with folks minting money for digital items without me getting a flavour of what I am getting into. I'm shocked such apps can actually make it to the store.

Doesn't Miss A Trick

Great app, Great site. Forget an individual guitar tutor, with GT you get a selection of the best tutors for a fraction of the price 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. What you want to learn when you want to learn it. Awesome.

The Best

I have been playing guitar for up to 20 year with self tutorials and in 2015 with Jamplay.

I have only been with Guitar tricks for about 1 month.

I play longer without boredom with the included Jamming sessions.

It is easier to progress in styles without confusion about teachers.

Guitar tricks however needs to better monitor the % of lessons the student has taken.

Guitar tricks name didn't encourage me in choosing guitar tricks. But I am glad I am with guitar tricks now.

The price is great too.

Join Guitar tricks, you will be glad.

Guitartricks is helping me get back in to playing guitar. I always seem to be at beginner level but now I feel at last like I am progressing. The App is a great tool to use when sat down in a comfy room away from my computer. I would make one request and that is to link my web progress to the app.

Top quality lessons for all

I have been playing guitar for around 30 years, but had a long break of nearly 10 years. I needed something to inspire and challenge me and at the same time fill in some of the missing skills. GuitarTricks has been just what I have been looking for, and already I have widened my knowledge and skill. Great app.

Decided after all these years to stop talking about it and learn the guitar. The lessons for beginners are clear, very forgiving and go at the right pace. I'm still going to have some lessons once I'm comfortable with the basics but it's a great place to start
