It’s ok, but has noticeable problems

Free version, iPad Pro 2017 12.9 20+ Gb storage free.

The issue I have (which occurs regardless of number of frames involved) after importing images to show as an animation one or two frames are shuffled essentially in their order breaking the sequence. Because many of them only have minor differences it makes it sometime nigh impossible to put them back in sequence. Even if I did, the issue is likely to return minutes after the first problem was sorted.

Other than this rather pressing issue, this app is barely below satisfactory as it allows me to see what I have made quickly without the need to export it only a Mac when one is not available and then make any required changes.

If the aforementioned bug is squashed, I would have no issue giving this app 5 stars. Would I pay to get the full version? Probably not as it requires a subscription and not a single payment, for something that I would not be using intensely as it is a very simple programme. The tools allowed to me in the free version are enough to get the job done that I require.

Edit: I’m generally using layer one, sometimes two, but I don’t have an issue with the layers moving. It is the frames themselves moving out of order.

Exporting, I haven’t an issue 😅 I was just saying the good thing is the app lets me get a rough idea of what I’m doing without needing to export my work to something like After Effects when i only have my iPad on hand

What I think of this app

I thought in this app is really good especially when your on the brand new iPad Pro, it works very well on the iPad. I hope you appreciate this review ^^ ;P

Three versions - get the right one.

Oh my. I’ve been on a journey with this app. It’s early days and I’m not an animator so wanted something intuitive.

I downloaded the free version one and didn’t get on with it, as was looking to try and replicate the demo. I then upgraded to the ‘Pro’ version at £19.99 and tbh can’t see much difference.

I wanted the version that was in the demo... the brown old fashioned interface. I THOUGHT that I could switch the programme but alas no. That is a DIFFERENT programme called Autodesk Animation CLASSIC....another £3.99. Alas this didn’t come up in my search for animation apps - only after an hour of searching on the internet.

So please be careful which you opt to get....

1 bug and something else.

Hello Kdan, on the selection bit I try to use, it wouldn’t work and the drawing wouldn’t get circled and you should add a shape ruler it would be really useful and good for the others to.

Not amazing

The drawing and tools all work, but the app keeps deleting work I’ve spent hours on. Only started happening on Sunday, but it’s become a regular problem. It also shows hidden layers when exporting.

Good, but still glitches

Ok, so message to the company can you PLEASE fix this glitch of the whole app closing on me, and that the layers keep re ordering themselves. Also, why are non subscribers only allowed 3 layers to work on? That favouritism may encourage to subscribe, but as beginners that don’t have credit cards and parents don’t like that stuff, it’s not really that fair.

Problem with lag

It seems whenever I use Animation Desk there is a significant amount of lagging when using my Apple Pen. This makes it less enjoyable and more difficult to use. Please fix this, otherwise it is a good app. I would recommend 👍🏾

Would have potential if it wasn’t so buggy

Honestly, I like this app but unfortunately it’s way too buggy to actually work stress free on. The ‘Export’ function is broken, as it exports empty frames, removes layers randomly, and shows hidden layers. This is extremely upsetting considering the time I spent animating my work, only for it to be exported haphazardly. There is also a problem with brushes sometimes skipping and/or lagging when drawing. I genuinely think this app would be great if it was fixed. Also, a copy/paste function through frames would be nice. And a function to merge layers. Overall, the app is fun to try but not for anyone who takes their animation seriously/does animation professionally or for school/university/a job. xo

Problems with making the app functional

When I open the app I press on the screen to load up an animation but it glitches back to the home screen.

But on my iPad mini it works fine. Could you please explain any reason why it is not working on my iPad Pro.

Brilliant

I really enjoy this app not even for the animation for the drawing tools that they have. Really fun and easy to use. The have the opacity, thickness and costume colours on the tools. Really enjoy this app and recommend it

Stopped working

This started out great (for a beginner), but once I hit a point in my animation it stopped working. I have 7 layers and on the 67th frame I can’t edit any of them. I open the app, open the sequence and then I can view the layers, select my tool and colour, but as soon as I try to edit any layer (draw or erase) it stops working, and nothing responds. I have to close and kill the app, the try again, but it’s a repeatable issue. I just paid for an annual subscription, having liked the demo version, but this is annoying me now. I can’t access my work! This needs to be fixed or I’ll be asking for my money back.

You can make things to make your friends laugh or sophisticated designs. It’s up to your imagination. However the app has some restrictions and limits.

‘Export’ broken!

Spent a while animating something simple only to discover that when exported there are loads of blank frames and only some layers visible - Renders the whole thing pretty useless and disappointing!

If this was fixed it would be a pretty good piece of animation kit though it bugs out/crashes quite a lot.

Could do with option to merge layers.

Inserting a photo from your photo library does not work. Other than that the app works fine apart from glitchy text appearing on random areas.

Rotation screen

Could you add a feature were you can turn the screen around zoom in and out they have this feature on flipaclip but I’d rather it be on this app it would help me out a lot when animating

I’ve used simple and very complicated animation apps and programs and wanted something good for my iPad Pro. I can’t figure out how to stop paying monthly and trying to animate in the app was highly frustrating. As a professional animator I was irritated by this app so I do not recommend this app to any beginners either until this app makes some major changes. Now looking for a new animation app on the iPad and try to sort out how to stop paying for this one. 😡

Excellent free animation service! However, it is very difficult to recreate the scene so it would be easier if you could copy it onto the next frame. Otherwise, very useful.

Tools need to be easier

Powerful little package, easy to get into, but copy and paste image material into a new frame needs to be easier, also found it difficult to slow the frame rate. However I will persist with this as it will probably get easier over time.
