Constant junk

I don’t know if there is something I can’t find in settings to block spam but my inbox is constantly flooded with it.
I have no issues like it with my gmail account so don’t understand why so much stuff makes through on outlook.
It wouldn’t be so bad but I report it constantly but still get loads coming through from the same places on a daily basis.

Adequate for the job, but definitely requires refinement to make it as useable as the traditional desktop application. Adding folders is tricky, as is configuring signatures.

Spam Filters are a Joke

Not specifically about this app but microsoft services are a joke. They’re shoehorning AI into everything they can to try and turn a profit, meanwhile my email inbox is still cluttered with obvious junk emails. What’s worse is that about once a month I find an email from one of the newsletters I subscribe to in my spam folder. This is despite having received the email just fine for many years and never having reported it as spam, microsoft’s very stupid systems somehow determine it as spam. Just useless.
And they want me to pay to use their AI after not solving that simple problem for over 20 years?

Locked Out of my Account

My email account has been blocked and you won’t believe it’s me no matter how many times I fill in your recovery form. I was asked to sign in after the last update and access was denied .
I am elderly and have had the account for many years. I cannot remember things I used as data all that time ago. I am frustrated beyond words that there is no proper help available. AI cannot help me. I am unable to access things like pension details, PayPal info, a loan agreement and insurances, medical records etc.
I have tried everything I can think of but my anger and frustration grows by the day when I receive the same message telling me yet again my application to recover my account has failed. If only I could speak with a HUMAN BEING !

This isn’t a great app for replying to people. It’s great for reading emails on the go, but when I try to reply, it always glitches out and closes my reply. It’s been going on for a bout a year. I have an iPhone if that makes a difference.

Not quite 5 stars yet

Had real difficulties when mysteriously losing my Hotmail account on my iPhone yet retaining it on my MacBook Pro. Currently seem to have found it again but fear that I may have now lost it on the laptop - despite Apple ID working well yesterday across all my Apple devices. So jury’s out at moment on any Hotmail ‘improvements’ - but hope remains high.

Pretty damn good

The only slight hesitation I have about Outlook is that it takes a while to learn how to use its full power. So for example, Search Folders are a powerful way to pan the gold from the grit in your Inbox. But you had better take the time to learn how to use them - their power depends on setting them up right. Get that (and some other things) done, and you have the most powerful email client imaginable. But if you can’t find the time for a full setup, then you might work better with a simpler, but less efficient, tool.

Ok but decimates your batter on IOS

While the app is ok in function and has some good integration with Apple Watch, it does decimate your battery.
For me, it consumes more than 60% of my battery on its own! And has started running my battery down to low by early evening. It started happening a release or two ago. 😰 and mine is the iPhone 17 pro max which used to last two whole days!

i HATE outlook it’s buns mate

Jhermaine told me to invest 800 billion rupees in the outlook business on the stock exchange and I did then I lost all my rupees and had to find a new family because my German wife died because she destroyed a fairy tree even though I married her in a frog castle and lost 3 shoes in a bog she didn’t get the Irish folk law reference!!!! So I decided to eat Jhermaines Pilipino egg salad and that made him very sad ☹️☹️so now I have 15,000 fbi agents tracking me down and just remember this happened because I downloaded outlook 🥀💔🪫SO HEAD MY WARNING STAY AWAY FROM THIS ABSOLUTELY GOD AWFUL APP!!!! anyway I have to go get a shower so bye gng stay safe out there!

Excellent email integration, but the calendar needs a basic usability fix

Outlook is excellent on the email side, fast, reliable, and extremely well-integrated with Microsoft 365. It has become my preferred app for email and contacts, and in that respect it is one of the best tools available on iOS.
The disappointment is the calendar. The app forces a Day View every time, and the Month View is hidden behind a drop-down menu with no option to set it as a default or even remember the last view. There is also no Week View at all. This makes simple planning unnecessarily awkward, especially as most people organise their lives on a weekly or monthly basis, not only day-by-day.
Other apps manage to prioritise the daily schedule while still giving the user an easy swipe gesture or a persistent setting to reach Month View. Outlook should offer something similar. A few small changes would transform the experience:
- Allow users to set Month or Week as the default view
- Remember the last view used
- Provide a Week View
- Make Month View accessible with a simple gesture
The email side of Outlook is outstanding, and the calendar could match that quality with just a bit of attention. I hope the team will consider restoring basic calendar usability so Outlook can be a complete all-in-one productivity tool again

DO NOT migrate to Teams. Outlook is solid.

Outlook is great. Enables organisation and international collaboration. Teams is SO flawed in so many ways. It is an OK conferencing tool, Team resource, and chat app. Please do not ditch tried and tested email client and tried and tested local filing structures in an over enthusiastic move to fuzzy, unclear “one package does all” approach. Microsoft id hamstringing productivity with the current faulty 365, Teams, and Onedrive ecosystem. Will migrate to Apple if I have to. Stick to your strengths Microsoft Windows 95 to 2000 and NT packages worked far better, had consistent menus, and predictable function. Having users control over own files is also vital for organisation. Scientific productivity in 2020 dropped significantly with Teams. 365, and Onedrive being forced upon us.

Spam reporting/block does not work

Use a different app for your mail!!
I have reported this issue that the reporting of Spam, phishing and blocking email addresses does not work in the app. This issue has been ongoing for years!
When I report an email as spam, the next email I receive from the same sender or emails of similar context are still coming through to my inbox.
When I block a sender, that sender still has the ability to email. I’ve been blocking the same email address that send me spam emails for years but they still get through to my inbox.
Same goes for reporting phishing scams. The same scams are coming through from the same email address, despite being reported as spam, being blocked and being reported as phishing.
I’ve reported this issue directly through the app many times over the years but still, these ‘features’ do not work.
To test, I’ve blocked a sender, gone in to the email to see if the ‘block’ option comes up as ‘unblock’, but it doesn’t, it still says ‘block’, and when I’ve pressed ‘block’ then checked again, it still shows as ‘block’ instead of ‘unblock’, and within a few days I’ll get the same spam email from that sender again.
This is a poor app that doesn’t work, yet they manage to shove an add in your face without issue.

WHY WHY WHY

Outlook is a fine app, you send emails, you receive emails, whatever, right? It’s used in a variety of settings! However. Whoever up in big wig outlook headquarters decided that sign in verification is a thing should trip on their welcome mat every time they leave the house, I hope their pillow is cold, but only at the edges, so they sleep at a funny angle and have a bad neck the next morning, I hope their non pulp orange juice has so much pulp it feels like drinking vomit. I am livid, the amount of times I have missed important emails, class assignments and gorgeous screenshots I sent myself earlier that day is outrageous. Because, Outlook, I don’t always have my phone on me, and when that sign in verification come knocking at my laptop door, it might aswell tell me to give up on reading my notes for the day, wow, what a useful feature. Who is this protecting? No one. Who likes this feature? No one. It’s stupid, unnecessary and takes away from my whole emailing process. Fix this issue or fix your ideas guy, many thanks.

Shut down and re-open regularly

On the whole this app performs fine. However one bug which I think is pretty big, is surrounding email refresh.
I do not have push notifications enabled. It’s my preference to go into the app when I want to see if anything’s come in.
Pull down to refresh and new emails usually appear.
But sometimes they don’t, so you assume nothing new has come in … not always the case.
It will appear to have completed refreshing as the circle goes away. However it responds like this even if there is no internet connection. You can see it by putting your phone in flight mode. There is no warning or dialogue to say it hasn’t been able to contact the server so what you’re seeing may not be the complete picture.
More than once I’ve missed hours worth of emails because I thought I was looking at an up to date inbox when I wasn’t.
The only way to truly know is to close the app down totally then open it again. Thats when you might find a load of emails come through that didn’t when you simply pulled down to refresh.
Not ideal and it feels like it should be an easy thing to sort out I’m surprised no one has yet.
Other than that it’s fine.

Super on iPad

We’ve had our Microsoft outlook since computers were invented …or it seems that way!. We find interesting things added to our email account from time to time and find it helpful when dealing with phishing and scam emails without having to hunt for an address to report them. It’s all there at the click of a button and dealt with instantly. It’s the same for blocking unwanted junk and for redirecting non junk mail to our inbox. We’re getting on a bit now and it makes keeping our account safe so much easier as things get more dangerously convincing by scammers. 10/10 in our book.

Underrated

I have always used “Outlook”. I think it is the easiest platform to use. Everything is easily at your fingertips like your folders. Your calendar is exactly the same. It is just seamless which I don’t find with the other platforms. I rarely give full marks to anything but, for things like “Outlook” which makes my life easier, all my different E-mail accounts (such as my “I-Mail” account or “Virgin Media” account can all be added to it as well and easy to set up, removing going to their website, again, it is at your fingertips) are in one place. I have used it for years and will continue to use it for years. For those who aren’t mature yet and scoff because it is a “Microsoft “ product, swallow your pride and use it. You’ll be giving it 5-stars in no time.

Update is underwear

A recent update (November 2024) has introduced some seriously mental spellchecking/predictive text. Every word is red-lined as misspelled.
It worked before. The problem that appeared is associated with a ‘Swipe’ predictive text feature. There’s a serious bug with it. It tries to impose suggestions and when it does you are left with gaps and capitalisations which you have to constantly edit out. To allow for its suggestions it shifts the cursor on to the next line. The result is you have to keep moving the cursor back. When you try it highlights whole sentences and it’s very difficult to place the cursor.
It’s unusable now and reporting things to Microsoft means navigating past an army of experts, giving twenty-seven volumes of information, sending diagnostic logs.
Not a good idea to start using it. I’m switching to a different email provider.

Really good, but it needs an update for the junk folder

This is a really good app, but it needs more control over the junk folder. I have my filters set to max when it comes to making sure that all unknown senders get thrown into the junk folder, but in order for me to say it’s from a safe sender, I have to log into my outlook from the desktop version, which seems nuts to me. Why not just be able to do it in the app? I keep getting sent mail from random spam companies, of which I would be inundated with 4-6 emails a day (every day) who were trying to get me to click on nefarious links, which were making it into my inbox every single time. Their titles and headings meant that Outlook’s filters were just not picking them up, so I had to set my filters to max, which sent every unknown email into my junk folder. This is good, but it means that I occasionally have to add a known company, or sender to my safe sender’s list, but the control to do that, is not currently in this app. Please can this be rectified? Thanks.

Had to delete after latest update.

I’ve been a fan of Outlook on iPhone for the past couple of years, but that all changed last week. The app started asking for my Yahoo and Gmail passwords but wouldn't update any of my emails. I ended up missing an important message because it simply wouldn't refresh. Ironically, the app still managed to push its own spam emails to the top of my feed, while my important emails didn’t come through. After deleting and reinstalling the app, I was met with a frustrating "updating" message that never went away, and it still wouldn't show any new emails from a certain date. Hats off to Microsoft for crippling their own app. I’ve since switched back to Apple Mail, which might be slower than Outlook, but at least I'm receiving all my emails without the annoying spam ads cluttering my inbox. Curiously, I've also noticed a significant drop of spam emails in my junk folder?! Could it be that Microsoft was somehow funnelling more junk mail to me than I actually had, might be just a coincidence!

My rating on outlook

I would give outlook a 4/5 stars because I think they have made a clever functional
Website/app that is useful for any user. I wouldn’t give outlook 5/5 because I think there are few things I would tweek like if I’m trying to find another email that was sent quite a while ago it is quite hard and the search bar at the top does not work. Another’s thing I would change is when you are writing your emails there is no auto correct so you have to change all your spellings and this is quite hard as I am dyslexic and don’t know how to spell some of the words. But others than those to things I have said I think outlook is very helpful and a well thought through design
Thank you

Good app, please add travel time feature

When setting a meeting it would be nice if there was an option to add and set the travel time
For example I set a meeting at 3pm and similarly to the ‘set category’ button there is a button for ‘set travel time’ which I can input and this would show as a separate event before the meeting.
Also, a bonus feature could be ‘set bumper time’ then input ‘before’ or ‘after’ with option to set both. which can be used for any number of things like travel time, prepare for meeting, or maybe tasks to complete before the meeting. Which can be moved as a block opposed to individual things that can be set as different events.

Forced to use thus before it works

Having a hotmail email account for ages on my IPhone 12 and all previous IPhone models I have just been told that Microsoft will no longer let me use my Apple built in email app but doing loading the app I added accounts and (1) wanted to import my contacts to outlook but all the instructions you find on Google say to use an icon at some stage that is not to be found (2) I want to be able to swipe left or fight to delete Microsoft own instruction say open outlook setting select swipe but after selecting setting there is no swipe you have to go email to find swipe I wish they had made the app and instruction better before forcing people to use it perhaps starting again with a new mail account and changing many website to reflect the new log on would be a better answer no wonder people are ditching windows and moving to apply

The worst email app

Of course Microsoft saw fit to release this hunk of garbage. Symbolises everything Microsoft has come to represent, cheap, poor quality with a lick of paint made to look like something far better than it really is. This is so unreliable as is Office 365 in general, especially when you’re using it for Apple devices. The number of times it’s deleted critical business meetings from my calendar for no reason or failed to save them when inputting them, is enough to make me want to throw my phone at a wall. Everything feels like an after thought with this app and every other MS app for iPhone and iPad. Nothing really runs the way normal apps do on Apple devices… because the devs, PMs, designers and QA don’t use iOS devices themselves personally. And I should know.. I was a designer at Microsoft for years and was forced at pain of firing not to use Apple devices. It’s evident 10 years on that a deep insecure culture of Balmeresque disdain for anything non Windows still lives on even in the apps designed for an entirely different non Microsoft platform. They’ve built these apps through gritted teeth ‘because we have to’ admitting defeat that people have outright refused their sub par operating system. Angry.

obvious bug being ignored but generally good

update: another update and still the badge count bug hasn’t been fixed…very annoying
The app overall is pretty good. Supports rich signatures and per account notification settings which are nice features over the Apple mail. I’d like to be able to edit the account icons though, my Outlook account forces and ‘outlook’ icon where the others are all initials. The bug, which a quick google search reveals is prevalent, is that the badge count on the icon is wrong when new mail is received. I get a new mail, it says 7 I open it and there are 5 emails. I close it and the badge now says 5. It seems to always report two more emails than I actually have until the app is opened and closed again. Should be an easy fix but the forums have lots of posts on the matter and it is still there. Annoying!

Bulk email deletion issue on app & website

I have lots of emails from a few years back, some from the same sender that I have not deleted, with some important and needed emails, even though there are other functions like “sweep” on the Outlook website, but I keep getting notifications on the app telling me that my inbox is 92% etc full - aside from “archive” there should be another place on the app to store wanted/needed emails and this, along with everything you do on the app, should be updated on the website (and vice versa) should be automatically synced on the website and vice versa without always needing to log onto the website - the functions for mass/bulk deletion of emails should be totally redesigned for those of us who are not as disciplined enough to delete unwanted emails at once without opening - a scan for potentially unwanted emails should be put in as a function with a checkbox to keep certain emails and send them to another folder, then just delete the rest on the visible page number

Junk emails

For whatever reason there’s a load of junk emails coming through into my inbox; I’ve read that there’s zero point in blocking the email addresses, but my issue is how they keep coming through, the same kind of content, plus the number of clicks it takes to identify an email as junk or phishing; it’s something like 10 seperate clicks to do this, which, when you have a number of spam emails gets both time consuming and tedious. I wish there was an easier way for the junk filters to spot these repeat junk emails and there was a quicker way of classifying them as spam; otherwise I’m happy with Outlook

Fed up with junk mail every time I access outlook

I feel I will have to change to another provider as I have so many junk mail messages in my junk mail folder. I’ve been with Microsoft for more years than I care to say but dread now when I check my inbox invariably there is yet more junk mail in the junk mail folder. I feel like my account is no longer mine but open to all and sundry. This past year has been the worse ever. I don’t give out my email to all and sundry quite the contrary. I have all protection in place I can put in myself. I have a duck email address which is wonderful but I would have to stop using outlook completely if I want this to be effective. I have searched for solutions but I am already doing everything recommended to stop the junk. Ultimately it would have to be Microsoft Outlook to help with this. On Windows mail on my computer I had NO junk mail but now Outlook has downloaded there without my permission I expect the same will happen to my computer system. I feel the only solution is to abandon all Microsoft accounts from my system. Eileen

multiple functions, much improved

Improvements in past year have made it much easier to filter and delete on mass instead of having to do this individually
It’s also easier to navigate/add accounts
One thing i find frustrating is blocking senders and marking as junk
I still repeatedly get hit with junk and phishing from the same senders despite me blocking and marking as junk
Perhaps there is just a delay in the notification from me and the actual implementation however, on contacting outlook via the app I received no response on numerous occasions and continue to be bombarded by phishing emails some of which are illicit content which is gross.

Brilliant mailing system

I have always used outlook as my default mailing systems the only thing I wish would improve on the app is to allow to choose what emails can be blocked without clicking on them.
Every time I go into a website and tells me to accept cookies and seem to then be getting a lot more spam and junk emails and wondering if there is any way on the app that we can block the sender I can do this on my laptop when it was working but not I only have my phone and tablet and both of these don’t let me block the sender as I’m sick of getting these inappropriate emails and doesn’t let me block only move to junk

Surprisingly bad for an MS product

For personal emails this app is ok, but for anything work-related it is simply not fit for purpose. For example, if you're replying to an email, it positions the draft response at the bottom of the email chain, and the incoming email at the top. So you have to scroll back and forth endlessly to double check points of detail in the original email. It is also very difficult to validate email addresses in a reply email, as they invariably appear in abbreviated form - a serious flaw given the prevalence of phishing attacks. Draft emails also frequently disappear for no apparent reason, forcing the author to start from scratch.
If you have both a business account and a personal Outlook account, the app will sometimes randomly merge them to give you a combined inbox. Absolutely infuriating when you're working and want to keep your personal emails (and life) separate from work.
I don't know what MS thought they were trying to achieve, but the overall result is a haphazard, clumsy user experience, not worthy of the MS brand. All this has been pointed out by thousands of other users, but these and other issues are never fixed.

Brilliant but flawed

This is a nearly excellent mail client that integrates perfectly with Outlook for desktop and lets you achieve so much from your phone. You can set up multiple accounts and folders and it pretty much perfectly mirrors a desktop account.
There is, however, one inexplicable flaw for which I can’t find a solution - and neither can others, apparently - and that is, when replying to a message, you can’t scroll back up through the text you’ve just written to check or proof read it. It’s just stuck, won’t scroll up or down, unless you type more lines, and nothing seems to allow you to scroll up! Really weird and evidently a flaw that needs to be addressed. Hence 4 out of 5 from me.

Mostly bad

Interface is annoying. Open emails and it doesn't show the logical chain properly, seems to start mixing up replies into whatever order it feels like. Not sure how this is a thing anyone could get wrong as it's so fundamental to how email works but Microsoft managed it. Can spend a while typing a large reply to an email only for the client to completely lock up and fail to respond to anything on the screen. Again, great work when my only interface is touch. When trying to recover from this the client often just blows away large chunks of the reply for no reason with no ability to restore. Just poor in general, like most Microsoft software.

Free service deteriorating into apocalyptic adscape

I have had my outlook email address since the late 90s. In the last month outlook have changed their storage systems so that I am now suddenly way over my storage capacities rendering my outlook account almost useless as I cannot send or receive emails whilst over the limit. All existing emails and attachments are now automatically counted in your ‘cloud’ storage. They have also started inserting adverts into the top of my inbox in the guise of emails. The only conceivable way to return my inbox to its original function is to pay for their service. Either that or set up an entirely new email address somewhere else - highly impractical given how many things in my life are tied to this address. They know this, and are banking on people paying into their system. Watch them slowly increase the price of the monthly plan and decreasing the storage capacities even further. Shame on you Microsoft!!

Easy to get hacked with malware within the app (but not from the emails)

Complex story but in a nutshell, I used the in app chat function with Microsoft and they sent me a link so I could reset my password online. When I followed the link and provided all my details, this information was stolen and it turns out the link is a spoof of Microsoft. So I went to their official website (which I have saved, it is legit and have used their site for years), I used that chat function to explain that the Outlook in app chat function had been compromised, I provided a link and they said that isn’t MS and they hinted I must have clicked on an incorrect link but that’s impossible as I followed in link within the app chat function which is supposedly direct to Microsoft. They then sent a recovery email to my backup email and it turns out that it’s not an official email from Microsoft. So in all, there’s no security hotline to report this. There is only the Microsoft web based chat or in app chat and it appears both have been compromised. Microsoft do have a legal duty to protect customer data but seem to not be bothered at all!

It’s ok. But so many odd bugs and behaviours

For starters, I have to use Outlook for work emails owing to IT security protocols. However it’s not bad. But the iOS and iPadOS specific enhancements are bug ridden and some weird behaviours.
1. Every time the app updates, it undoes the focus profile settings so I have re-enable tor each of my profile settings. Don’t see this with any other apps.
2. I used to be able to tap on an email showing in my other not focus inbox, now need to tap other than see it.
3. iCloud sent emails don’t show up in the iCloud web interface or Mail apps. Only in outlook.
4. iCloud calendar synch is inconsistent and doesn’t always replicate, sometimes duplicates entries.
UPDATE: 2ND NOVEMBER
Following suggestion by developer to reach out using in-app help and feedback. Beyond useless. Suggested “restarting the app” to resolve the issues. As if I hadn’t thought of that. Subsequently failed to ensue when I replied that had tried. Microsoft; you need to do better with this.
UPDATE: 24TH NOVEMBER
For a blissful period the issue of focus states not being deleted with every update was resolved. Now it’s back and worse. It is no longer possible in iOS and iPadOS settings to map the Outlook focus profile to the devices focus settings. So, Outlook has got worse than before.

One advert too far, Microsoft

Choose another email client- seriously. After 20 years of using outlook, I’m now deleting my account. Microsoft has recently started inserting ads into your email inbox - not as a side bar, which is annoying enough, but directly into your inbox of emails, as if it was an email. They even look like a normal email, but are actually an ad. You can’t unsubscribe, you can’t block or stop them from entering your inbox. The only thing you can do is delete the ad/email, or ‘focus’ your inbox so it filters out the ads into a separate folder. Annoyingly, Microsoft’s algorithms are so awful that it also moves half of my actual emails into this other folder too. So I end up with my inbox halved in two, with one part full of ads. Even when you delete the ads, within minutes new ones appear. It’s infuriating and soul destroying. Then they charge $99/yr to go ad-free. An absolutely joke. I suspect no amount of poor feedback from customers will change this, since Microsoft are clearly putting their commercial interests before their customers.

Dreadful

This is apparently the only software that will work with my institute’s MFA, so I’m stuck with it. With a calendar that has no way to adjust the tiny text so I can actually read it (on an iPad, that has plenty of room), no lines between the days so I can easily see the shape of my week, no way of scrolling so I can view the end of one week and the beginning of the next simultaneously, no today button. With an email app that has the look and feel of a text app, and is almost impossible to use for professional communications (and now I understand the bafflement in my junior’s faces when I tell them that professional emails shouldn’t be ungrammatical and full of text speak). With an app that puts email and calendar in one place, so I have to go through mail every single time that I want to check my calendar (even though I’ve given up doing mail on my ipad for the reasons above).

Simply the BEST Platform for Email

I have found Outlook to be the best email platform I have ever used. Occasionally there is some disparity in certain addresses being split between Junk and my In Box but generally only need to rectify once and the problem is solved.
I find it speedy in updating and alerting to new mail. I also enjoy the professional aesthetics and it remains user friendly as well as consistently acting as a business class communication platform. I can email photos with friends and family as well as writing official correspondence when dealing with organisations safe in the knowledge that all my needs are fulfilled.
I would add that when using Outlook on a mobile device it’s extremely clear and definitely user friendly.

Nearly the perfect email app…

Cards on the table - I quite like MS stuff. My workstation is W11, I am a paid up 365 subscriber etc and so I quite like Outlook - particularly the desktop version.
So it was a natural move for me to use Outlook on my iPad also and it is pretty close to the full fat version however with two massive buts. So massive I nearly gave it 1* out of shear frustration.
The UI is nice, much nicer than the native Mail app and things like attachments, flagging etc are handled in a more fluid manner. But why oh why in 2022 on a tablet that is more power than an awful lot of desktops and laptops can a market leading mail client not have a collapsible folder tree?! My email is very folder-centric and not being able to collapse the tree makes navigation cumbersome.
And this leads me to the second and very much related but… why oh why can we not have a simple way of adding new folders. Again, this is just a basic email client feature really yet one that seems to either be missing from tablet mail clients completely or implemented in such a fashion paper cutting your own tongue would be more fun.
If MS could only sort those two features, features I might add that are on both the web client and the main desktop/laptop version, it would be an easy 5*

Abysmal calendar. Awful search. But it does email

The calendar on this app is beyond awful. Good luck scrolling to a point in the future and trying to do…..anything. You can scroll down a month, but it will just ping you back to where you were time and time again. Click on a date you’ve managed to painfully scroll to in June? Nope! Back to February you idiot. Deal with it. Scrolling day by day is a painful experience too. You really just cannot get work done using this calendar. Unless the event you’re looking for is this week, you may as well assume it doesn’t exist as you won’t be able to find information on it in this app.
The email search functionality is equally poor. You can navigate to a folder you know an email is in. You can use a search term that is near unique. But the search function does not care. It pulls in data from anywhere, including places you could never fathom to ask. Why you can’t search by folder or use the basic (and pretty good) search rules from desktop I cannot understand.
The app has not failed to send or receive emails, so well done on not failing there I suppose.
why a unique nickname?

Outlook review

I have Office 3654 about three years now. I have not used Outlook all that time at decided recently to maximise my use of out look. I feel that it’s an excellent app but I did have some difficulty in sinching my mail account from my other devices. It is taken a few days of research before obtaining what I think will be a workable solution.
I was successful with my iPhone and iPad when I downloaded the more recent app for Aol as directed. On the the Lenovo Desktop it was not quite so easy because there doesn’t seem to be any easy app that can be downloaded to obtain the wanted result. However I feel that I have succeeded today in syncing correctly although it seems that the emails that I am receiving from my AOL account inbox were dated 15th of March 2021, and is nothing I can do seems to alter this. Of course the mails are still in the AOL Mail box and I can access these from there. Your sincerely Tony Hayes

Pretty good but

I think this is pretty good (btw I’m reviewing as something for a phone) however when you are on the phone it is quite crammed and I think that you can just do more if you log on with the website on a laptop or computer or something like that. Also I think the symbols need to be clearer at the bottom as I honestly sometimes have no idea what they mean and sometimes it brings back messages from months ago.
I know I’m saying a lot of bad stuff about it but honestly, it’s really good and quite convenient like if you just want to message maybe your teacher or a friend you can just go on the app text them, and then just go on with your day and you don’t have to load up the laptop or something just for that one message

Laggy

I need to use Outlook for work and our Office 365 environment. Has good features and has been my preferred app. However, it has become increasingly laggy on all my IOS devices (iPad Pro, iPhone 11) to the point where I have had to switch back to the Apple mail and calendar apps which are super fast but lack integration with Teams and calendar layout is a bit poor. I have reset Outlook, re-installed, but in the end it remains so unresponsive to gestures to make it unusable. Swiping across weeks is so painful - it doesn’t respond, or takes ages. Emails come in quickly, but when typing an email, sometimes the words don’t come up on screen until you finish the sentence. All in all, the app isn’t working for me anymore - I use Apple apps and Teams. I love Microsoft and Apple - I know, a rare thing. But Microsoft needs to sort this out quickly. Some of the other recent reviews concur. This latest ‘performance improvement’ update does not make a difference.

Better for work

It took a while for me to be convinced to switch from standard iPhone email to using outlook for work email but it’s been worth it.
Firstly the outlook app itself is good and easy to use - you can tailor alerts for just calendars and not every email. You can organise by thread or not, look up employee phone numbers from active directory and basically operate work as a secure bubble within you personal phone ( or in my case separate work from personal on my work phone)
Secondly it’s compatible with my iWatch so calendar alerts and 2 factor authentication requests pop up on the watch - a real time saver.
Thirdly when I am on holiday I can completely delete outlook so I am not pestered or tempted with work stuff.
Overall a great app and worth using

Best desktop to mobile mailing app but...

The Outlook Mobile app is excellent in the sense it enables you to use 90% of the features available on the desktop app at your fingertips. I feel confident that I can work straight from my iPhone. It is aesthetically pleasing and very easy to you with all the actions you need to available on the screen at one time.
My only issue with it is there is a bug, possibly with the Face ID upon opening emails sometimes. When I open the email, the screen suddenly flashes between the Face ID and the email, very quickly for 5 seconds. Afterwards the app freezes on the email without showing the actual body of the email. Only when you close and reopen the app can you use it again. This is mildly frustrating but a bug nonetheless and I have to use Face ID due to my employer’s security policy.
Without this bug, I would rate 5 stars.

Amazing, user friendly, & clear EPG

First of all, I would recommend outlook over any other email server/account/platform.
The app/outlook account is one I’ve had for 24 years and it’s never faulted - well apart from Onedrive one day decided to remove years of photos, memories and extremely important documents.
The one thing I would say is that there are features which could be extremely useful. Features that you would have on an office email account. Simple options even for example a received/read mail notification, direct link to onedrive as we once had available on computer, notes & a basic admin functionality.
There are two things at least that bothers me the most that comes to mind...
1. It’s a shame when you press on the picture links where or what to do with an email, that a label doesn’t come up to make it clear what’s what.
2. It would be so much easier to be able to search for a regular sender, and there be able to select all and delete.
I am truly amazed by outlooks generosity. It’s been a lifeline and a safe and loyal platform for all these years. So thank for the updates and improvements you make constantly to keep the app fresh and for making it free and and available to all.

Good app but scope for improvement

I really like the Outlook app - it is very nicely presented and generally works well.
I do gave some gripes though - I have my personal and work email addresses on the app and i wish you could more definitively separate the two. Sometimes the app will default to opening both inboxes or sending an email from my work email rather than my personal etc. I did once accidentally send an email from my work email rather than my personal email which, for a pedant/perfectionist like me, is kind of painful. 😩
It’d also be good if you could apply icons and labels to your different email accounts to more clearly identify them. Finally I’m not sure if you can reorder different accounts in the list; I wanted my personal email at the top and I think I had to delete my work email account and re-add it to achieve this. It was a while ago though so I might be wrong on that.
Finally, the search feature is pretty basic and needs more features. Pretty sure you can’t sort search results in the order you want...
Thanks.

Why update and makes things worse!

I find the emails are fine when I use outlook on my computer but on your phone when u want to forward an email to someone, it ends up showing your reply first”! Why have u done this outlook!? It’s horrible! Why can’t you just keep things as they are” they worked well as they were. Now when I am looking for an email someone has sent me I end up seeing only one and not all their previous ones because u have somewhat mixed them into one email and then I can’t find the emails I’m actually looking for because it doesn’t show them! This only seems to be on the app. Or maybe it’s like that way on the computer too but I’m pretty sure it’s not. Please change it back to how it was before. This is horrible! :(

Address autocomplete corruption

This app corrupted my autocomplete cache. It then corrupted the autocomplete cache on OWA which then corrupted autocomplete cache on outlook for Mac.
Support for outlook iOS is beyond awful. They denied it could be the app for two weeks. I then resolved the issue with MS owa support (by reinstalling the entire OWA account) which took a week. We then isolated the problem to outlook iOS. iOS support think they can solve the problem with a message with a silly question every 24hours.
The iOS support function is awful. Which would not be a huge problem if this app did not have an impact on the OWA server, BUT IT DOES and then wasted a week’s of my, and the MS owa support staff’s, time.

Good when it works but became unusable and then realised how bad it actually is

Worked well for some time but then one of my important email accounts stopped working. Very common email provider so contacted outlook support and sadly they are very quick to blame everything else (password, provider) for the issue rather then the app. They close support tickets as soon as they think it is something else causing the problem despite proof it is the app. Constantly asking for screenshots of the issue rather then accepting the descriptions or the error logs. I changed email apps several times to prove this problem was the outlook app and nothing else, yet they always blame the email provider.
Have since moved back to the native iPhone Mail app and it’s spectacular. Very fast and easy to use and shows just how slow, sluggish and poor the outlook app is! Avoid the outlook app and stick with others, your email life will be much smoother!

Horrendous

What is going on? I'm someone who isn't rich and so has older devices. You forced me to use your ridiculous app on my iPad even though I had a hotmail account. You have now stopped supporting its use on older iPads and are telling me I need to update, yet what you mean is update iOS which is impossible on my older iPad. So I now can't receive or send any emails 😡😡😡😡 and I will have to abandon my email account I've had for years. I'm a musician and have used this account for all work I've done and handed it out to everyone. To say I'm angry at Microsoft is a massive understatement. Horrendous company, no morals and I will never use you again as you do not leave a person alone, you keep pushing and pushing and forcing upgrades etc., in a bid to make money from people. Yours absolutely disgusted, a person using older technology who now has numerous problems as I can't receive or send emails anymore 💩😡💩😡💩😡💩😡💩😘

Good but has annoyances

I use this solely for work and is integrated perfectly for it. Does everything that I need it to for work but I have one gripe with it that made me try other mail apps to get over this but due to my work integration with Office 365, I have to come back. The gripe is that while using the app on my mobile, when in an email, to move, flag, etc the options are on the top right of the screen. I’m using a large phone and it’s always a pain when using one-handed.
Would be nice if we could rearrange the options or have them at the bottom of the screen. It would make the user experience easier and logical since the app is for mobile use and the UI is catered mostly for use of the keyboard and options closer to the bottom. Hope this changes soon.

I've been using this app since it was recommended by The Verge. I haven't used the standard email app since. I absolutely love having a focused inbox as it separates all the spam emails that clutter up my inbox. Only thing is now I realize how few important emails I actually get. I'll be lucky to get one a day! I probably don't use most of the features offered but it's great that it can be used as a simple uncomplicated email app if you want. Of note also is the customer service. I had a slight problem getting it set up and after contacting customer service they got straight back to me and resolved my issue first time. An excellent service that doesn't cost a thing. Fully recommended.

Works well with one game breaking omission

In this day and age of some of the most sophisticated phishing attempts ever seen I simply can’t understand how Microsoft would omit a block sender feature from their app. This is just crazy to me. I contacted tech support through the app and got a highly detailed automated cut and paste response within seconds apologising for the lack of the feature and telling me to go login to the website to block senders. They can spend time automating a response to the issue but won’t spend the time to introduce a feature that a quick google shows is very much in demand. For Shame
Update: 1 week later. I have discovered the gmail app is far better and allows me to ‘gmailify’ external email accounts incorporating their stellar spam filtering into the mix. The app instantly dumped all the spam out of my outlook inbox. Thank you Microsoft. Your poor support drove me to look for a better alternative and that’s exactly what I have found.

Deletes my email

However awful Outlook is on desktop, you’re pretty much stuck with it in corporate Windows environment. So using it on mobile too kind of makes sense for convenience and consistency.
Over the last couple of years I was willing to put up with its bugs and limitations - all complicated apps inevitably have them.
However I finally bit the bullet, removed it today and switched to a separate but better apps for email, calendar, and contacts. The reason is that it yesterday (for the second time this year) deleted a year’s email. It is ridiculously easy to brush the ‘select all’ and delete icons without realising it. Before you notice, your emails are disappearing before your eyes, with the deletions being synchronised across all devices linked to your accounts. So for 2nd time this year I have wasted hours going message by message through 3 sets of recycle bins trying to work out which messages were intentionally or unintentionally deleted, and restoring accordingly. Poor for an app that is supposed to increase productivity.

Ridiculous Notification Settings

Jimbobbingalong - You are not able to customize notifications as well as the Mail app in iOS. The most you can do to maintain alerts is to show banners and when an email comes through it will show who it's from and always show the subject and the first line of the message body. With the Mail app you have the option just to show an email has arrived from the recipients name without showing the first line of the message body which is extremely important. The Mail app has an option in the notifications settings of your phone at the bottom called "Show Preview" which you can switch off. When this is off it will not show the message body. It will show the sender and subject only. This option does not exist with the outlook app and it will always show the first line of the actual email which is ridiculous.

Hey draft folder to sync with 365 outlook account

App works well but there are 2 easy bugs to fix after 1 week of use.
1. Draft folder on app does not sync with 365 outlook account. So if I start drafting an email on my device I cannot finish it at work and viceversa.
2. When pressing on the drop down menu at the top left corner, there is always a significant delay before the menu opens and all folders are shown. I have a large folder structure and it would be easier if folders where not expanded but compressed and could be clicked and expanded when you are searching for a specific item. Similarly to the GUI that you have when you go to Outlook 365 mobile on Safari.
Thank you. Nico
