Description

Help when you need it, for those with seizure disorders.
SeizAlarm is a user-friendly iPhone and Apple Watch app that allows those with epilepsy and other seizure disorders to alert emergency contacts when they need help*.
FEATURES:
- Seizure detection. Seizure-like event detection is done via the motion sensors on the iPhone and/or motion sensors or heart rate sensor on the Apple Watch. Sensitivity controls allow you to set customized settings specific to you. When a potential seizure is detected, emergency contacts will automatically be contacted via multiple channels (phone call, text message, and email).
- Send immediate help requests manually to emergency contacts.
- Also available is a manually activated time delayed help request feature (via the "Time Delayed Help" button) that is helpful for those who have localized seizures (auras) that may turn into generalized tonic-clonic seizures. You are able to custom set the delay time in the settings. When a seizure warning is initiated you will see a countdown which can be extended via the press of a button. If you end up becoming unresponsive due to a seizure then once the timer ends then a help request will be sent.
- When a help request is sent, your contacts will be contacted with GPS coordinates (if available), so they know exactly where you are.
- You are also able to track your seizure events with robust logging features. A log dashboard gives you a high-level view of past events. You can also export log reports.
- SeizAlarm also supports multiple emergency contact support, so more than one person can be contacted when you need help.
- Optional audible siren and/or custom voice message that plays if a help request is sent.
- International phone number support for emergency contact(s).
- Now supporting "Family Setup" watches!
Help is just a button press away. Start taking back your independence today.
For questions or feedback, contact us at contact@seizalarm.com. Your input is vital in improving future versions' detection accuracy and reducing false alarms.
NOTES:
*New accounts receive a 2-week commitment free trial of the help request service which allows the user to manually or automatically (via seizure-like repetitive motion and/or heart rate detection) request help from emergency contacts. Once the trial ends, the user must subscribe to the help request service to continue to have the ability to request help. The help request service is an auto-renewing cost of $17.99/month or $179.99/year.
* SeizAlarm is NOT an FDA approved medical device. SeizAlarm does not prevent seizures, should not be used for diagnosis, treatment, mitigation or cure of any disease and is not a substitute for medical care.
* Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
* Recommended placement of the iPhone for seizure detection is on the arm using an armband.
* Longer sessions of Watch based seizure-like motion and heart rate detection may dramatically decrease watch battery life.
* Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
* The payment will be charged to the user's iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase. The account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, and identify the cost of the renewal.
* Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the user's Account Settings after purchase.
* No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during the active subscription period. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication. The robust seizure log features require no subscription.

Expensive and didn’t work.

This app is expensive. I also find it difficult to set up. The guidelines provided for what customisable settings are available is unclear. The app is registering numerous false alarms and sending out alerts to my carer therefore, I have to reduce sensitivity to minimum and/or turn off monitoring so now I am not sure if it is going to work when I actually have a seizure. It has used up all the battery in my watch. Definitely not worth the money, I don’t have confidence in it. It is a good idea however and it would be great if a robust working version of this app could be developed.

Drains battery in a few hours

Bought a new Apple Watch for my son specifically to use this app. His first day using it and a fully charged (8pm) battery was down to less than 10% by 2am. Completely useless. I’ve wasted money buying the watch as well as the subscription fee! I was torn between this and embrace - really regretting my decision now!!

Waste of money

I have paid to use this app for over 3 months. It hasn’t pick up one of the 7-10 tonic-clonic seizures I’ve had in that time, despite using it alongside my Apple Watch. In fact it has only triggered once, when I tripped while walking up my stairs. Complete waste of money especially considering I purchased the Apple Watch to use the app.

Doesn't track seizures unless you need help

It's a great app. I have partial seizures which it picks up but I can deal with those ones alone. Although I still wantti track them but I can't see an option brides false alarm

Disappointing

I subscribed to this app thinking it would give my husband and I some reassurance but it was not suitable for me. Every time I rode my bike or took the dog for a walk it would trigger an alarm, even on the lowest setting and without the heart monitor. I requested assistance from support but they did not respond so I have cancelled and will look for a more suitable app for my needs.

A brilliant solution for watch users

Hello, I’ve been using SeizAlarm for a year or two now. I combine the synced usage of the iPhone app and the Apple Watch app. The iPhone app is essentially where you go to modify the devices settings for both the phone and the watch, as well as how you change how in the event of a detected seizure your contacts are notified/how the device notifies anyone around you in public for example. It’s changed my life. I know that no matter what, if I’m alone or in public, someone will know where I am and can help me. It’s such a brilliant service especially for ease of use and the price. Especially if you already have an iPhone and an Apple Watch, the subscription fee is so minimal compared to many mainstream services like this. Many of which aren’t as good! Less than £15 a month for the ability to live my life? Yes please! It’s a bit annoying that you can’t call customer services, you have to email them or use the form on their website. However I usually get any issues fixed over email with an hour or two. Which is incredible, even Apple themselves don’t often respond that quickly. The only massive downside for me, and I encourage Apple Watch users to take this on board, is it does massively drain your watch battery. Always have a plan of how you’re gonna fit safe charging time for your watch because you can’t charge the watch whilst wearing the device! So important to plan ahead with that. I also don’t have any other apps open on my watch to further conserve battery when I’m not needing to use them. I hope that helps anyone out there, I highly encourage this. I’m only not giving 5 stars because of the worry about battery consumption and would be more ideal if you had a contact number. Thank you SeizAlarm :)

Excellent support

Had an initial problem with phone number format, quickly solved via email. To follow up they were very helpful in pointing out (to me) obscure settings to tailor appearance and function to my preference. Full marks.

Too expensive

The app has some really great features and would certainly provide some peace of mind for patients/relatives. But it’s just too expensive. I understand it has to be funded some way but it’s not affordable for everyone. Not good if you are unemployed or low on cash, especially in current times with the cost of living crisis. I deleted it.
Would recommend if you are happy to pay the £14.99 though!

Such a shame

Great app but it’s far too sensitive for me. I went for an hour walk the other day with the setting set to minimum, the alarm must have gone off over 50 times so unfortunately I have had to uninstall it. Such a shame as it’s a great app apart from that.

Very disappointed

We use the seizealarm app which is used with an Apple Watch and phone to detect seizures for my 12 year old daughter. I do not know what has happened with this app but I would definitely no longer recommend this. My daughter had 2 prolonged tonic clonic seizures one of them nocturnal and also a third partial seizure on Friday with high heart rates as she was hooked up to a monitor in hospital so we could see her heart rate was high and it didn’t pick up anything not one of the perimeters that were set went off even though they were exceeded. I emailed them with screenshots of her settings and they asked the usual was her watch on correctly etc etc and we increased the sensitivity to maximum of 10 (it was already set to 7) and now the app is ringing us and texting us none stop and draining her phone and watch battery. She was just sat next to me doing absolutely nothing and her heart rate was fine as we checked her watch and it rang us 3 times requesting help for her. This is now as you can imagine anxiety inducing and it’s very clear it doesn’t work at all. Very disappointing.

Good idea but so expensive.

If you have £150 a year to blow on an app then it’s great but I feel like a free version would really help most people.

This app can not only save lives but also improves the quality of everyday life

I found this app to be very reliable and has all the great customisations you could imagine. It’s very intuitive to use, and really provides great reassurance that you will know if a person had a seizure. My wife used to use Empatica Embrace before, but this is miles better, more stable and easier to manage due to on-watch-screen controls.
I had a suggestion to design a custom watch face that doesn’t necessarily show the alert buttons and thus remind the person each time they check the time that they have a condition and the responsiveness of the people behind the app blew me away - literally exchanged several emails within 24hrs, they asked for additional input, like the idea and will aim to have it as part of the next release.
Overall experience on all fronts: 10/10 - thanks guys!

Ineffective badly coded app

Flattens the battery on my Apple Watch series 3 which I gave to my granddaughter. The watch is fully functional and I been using for 2 years without any battery issues for the apps I use. No way it should have died in the middle of the night when the battery had 54% charge left

False advertising

This rating is based on the misleading information on the description rather than the functionality of the app itself.
A subscription is required for use of ANY functions of this app, not just the alert service. This is falsely detailed in the description. Since the automatic upgrade to version 5 it is no longer possible to use ANY functionality of this app without a subscription, not just the alert service as advertised.

Amazing to have but logged me out

Went onto my Apple Watch to check if I could still send my request. Seizalarm chucked me out.
Went onto my seizalarm app on my phone and I’ve been logged out. I can’t remember my username or password but am still paying. How can I get back in so I can send a request?

Issues

I’m kind’a reluctant too pay for a service that records a seizure 5 times when I add one record or messages with text missing in the buttons. It’s a good idea but needs plenty of work

Detects seizures from my watch

Very easy to call for help with my watch with the big button, and still good at detecting them if I don’t manage to call.
Would be good to see a monthly calendar that highlights the days I’ve had seizures

Zaps Apple Watch battery

It’s a fantastic app that gave us peace of mind, we were alerted instantly when my son had a tonic-clonic but unfortunately the Apple Watch app flattened the battery so fast we couldn’t justify the monthly charge when there are other watches that last 20hrs +
I hope the software guys can find a way around this because it works well

Needs a help request end for contacts attending

This is a really good app and allows independence.
The only issue is that the people who can then attend, cannot end the help request. It can only be ended on the users app. Thai can’t be done until seizure ends. Therefore other contacts still rush to attend as they don’t know that someone is there.

Not bad but

Not a bad app at all it's has saved me on a number of times. But if you have an issue like I did I had to uninstall the app and reinstall it and now it says I've not paid for it. Not restore purchases on the app either!
Update - no I will not got in touch it's been way too long I've wasted so much money on an app that never worked correctly. It seems to me this company is a money grabbers. Sorry to say I am using a much better app then this one. Surprising its taken so long to get some type of reply to my review. So I am happy to reuse it and re edit this app with a full refund but won't do anything else till that's been done.

Brilliant but needs development

I have uncontrolled seizures and spend a lot of my time alone. Since using the app with the Apple Watch I feel more confident. When I have a seizure my wife is informed and is able to contact me. It's a life saver.
It needs developing; especially exporting details for my neurologist and the watch sensor enabled too send messages.

A life saver for sure!!

This app is amazing & has saved my life many times in the months I've been using it!
Im 26 &have a rare condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) it's a connective tissue disorder causing all my joints to dislocate & sublux, even the junction between my skull and neck- compressing my brainstem & causing upto 40 seizures/day- even whilst asleep! They're mainly short, but other times last hours &my Oxygen sats drop as low as 66%. On these occasions I have to be blue lighted to Resus for IV meds & O2to bring me round.
Now with this app I can sleep safely, without fear that Ill have one &nobody will know until morning- when its too late!
Instead, now with the app installed onto my Iphone, my mum is woken if I have a seizure, as the app rings her to alert her to the possibility that I'm having a Seizure!
After downloading from the AppStore & username etc,
You set the detection sensitivity you desire, the number of retries, contacts numbers (with codes! eg UK +44) & seconds to wait before taking action. There's 3 alert options: email; text or/ & call & that's it setup!
The app uses the iPhone's motion detection to detect any convulsions during a seizure, then calls your contact(s) & informs them that you may be having a seizure, it also provides a map with your location by text/ email!
A snooze toggle button turns the activation off &on as needed.
It runs unnoticed in the background 24/7 & also has a 'help now'; 'time delay help"& 'false alarm' button.
Useful for those with auras/warning signs, so they'd select the time delay'& if they don't choose an option in that time, it activates &calls contact.
After a seizure you simply hit 'end & log' (keeps a log of seizures& time started, you can input data on length & triggers etc) or 'false alarm' either way your contact is again contacted to say it was a false alarm or has ended now.
I use this 24/7 in an armband strapped to my arm & I can not wait until the Iwatch app works fully too!! Currently the Iwatch app only has the "time delay" & "help now" buttons & is unable to motion detect seizures.
Thanks so so much for making it!!
Melanie

Seizure Alert Function Problems

I currently suffer from seizures through the night. The Seizure Alert doesn't keep on working for long periods. Would really need app to keep on working for the whole night to get the best protection possible. Other app functions work well.

A true lifesaver

This app is an ingenious use of iOS technology. The seizure detection works incredibly well and it's sensitivity easily customised. Highly recommended for anyone with epilepsy of any severity, as it is sure to help alert your family at some point. Currently the app only supports North American numbers for the text and phone alerts, but I understand that's being worked on, but for everywhere else the email alert function is super quick, and just as effective.

Amazing app

This app is fab, I bought the Iwatch so if I needed to use this app I wouldn't have to worry about finding my phone. I done a few test runs and helped the app people make it usable for the UK as this is the only reason I bought the watch . Up until last night I haven't had to use it, when I did request for help last night it was so easy to use and fab that I could get help when I need it. I have piece of mind now I have this 😁 xx

Seizalarm Review

Installed this great app yesterday and I'm pleased to say that following a test run, it works seamlessly.
It's very easy to use and navigate and the text message alert system comes through instantly. The GPS tracking device is excellent and again, easy to access via a link to google maps in the text message. The user interface is simple and uncluttered, which is exactly what you would want in an emergency situation. The additional email as well as text alert is also great - perfect for when you're at work and may not have access to your mobile phone.
The client support from the Seizalarm team was outstanding - way beyond expectations! Exceptionally quick response to questions I had and full support given, from installation of app through to my test run.
This app has given us a little more peace of mind that even when I'm not around I can be of assistance in an emergency situation. Obviously I'm hoping that we never need to use it but it's such a relief to know that it's there if needed.
