Intriguing and at the same time appalling

As a student of law, this book both intrigued and appalled me. The Secret Barrister exposes the impact of successive government failings on the principles of the rule of law and justice. This book should be essential first-day reading for the DPP, and Justice Secretary. Although heavy going in places, this book highlights the peril faced by those in society with the least, and yet the most to lose. I’ve always suspected criminal law was the poor relation but this book confirms both the depth of failings due to successive cuts to legal aid, the CPS, and the police, whilst highlighting the tireless work of the skilled criminal law practitioner. A great, if frankly scary read.
