Your ability to change everything - including yourself - starts here
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing.
But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute take a very unscientific view of equality. Forced to resign, she reluctantly signs on as the host of a cooking show, Supper at Six. But her revolutionary approach to cooking, fuelled by scientific and rational commentary, grabs the attention of a nation.
Soon, a legion of overlooked housewives find themselves daring to change the status quo. One molecule at a time.

Brilliant

I’m a 31 year old man who studied chemistry at university. Not that any of that matters, because this book is for everyone. A page turner from the very beginning and a completely refreshing story from the mid 20th century with themes that have never been more relevant than they are today. Brilliant book.

Laughed and cried

Thank you Bonnie for creating a female gamechanger, an unlikely family bond across widely different characters and a story that is both a heart-breaker and a light-hearted reality check. Absolutely loved every line and this year I want to be more like Elizabeth Zott.

Really Enjoyable Read

A clever story I wanted to pick up and read until I finished. Six chapters in, I was already recommending to a friend (who also enjoyed). I enjoyed to pace and, sadly, the relevance of some of the themes even in present day. I see they’re going to make a film/series of it, so pleased I read it before watching.

Amazing

The problem with this book was that it kept me up reading three nights in a row. The characters are brilliant.

A good read.

A book about a woman scientist who is very good at her job in a male dominated world. A lot of dramatic sorrow thrown in to make it appeal to a wider audience, plus a faithful dog. I would recommend this book.

Book Bereavement

This is a real phenomenon and this book has brought BB crashing down on me. How I will get through the days without tales from the world of Elizabeth, Mad or 6:30??
An amazing read on lots of levels with some of the best ‘one liners’ ever. This book is both crushingly sad and joyously uplifting. If you read only one book, make it this one.

Great premise

Loved the premise of this book and it’s very funny in places. I’m disappointed with some of the more fanciful parts that make it a bit twee in places

Excellent book, if slightly too evangelically atheistic

Lovely book about chemistry, love, loss and determined women.
The only downside was the evangelical atheism which became a slightly over emphasised theme. Only the characters who didn’t believe in God were sympathetic ones, and vice versa. Despite this it was very enjoyable.

Sharp,witty,wonderful

I loved this book. I absolutely could not put it down and read it in a day - then wished I hadn’t read it so quickly as I wanted it to last much longer. It was hilarious and sad and thought-provoking and it reminded me that no matter how far women have come in the last fifty years in terms of rights, work etc, we still encounter many of the same obstacles, the same prejudice, the same challenges. Garmus writes with wit, clarity and a sharply observed characterisation. I look forward with keen anticipation to her next book.
