Description

'A towering masterpiece by a writer of genius.' Independent
'A masterpiece of illumination and grace. Like all great fiction, it transforms our understanding of life.' Guardian
India, 1975. An unnamed city by the sea. The government has just declared a State of Emergency. Amidst a backdrop of wild political turmoil, the lives of four unlikely strangers collide forever.
An epic panorama of modern India in all its corruption, violence, and heroism, A Fine Balance is Rohinton Mistry's prize-winning masterpiece: a Dickensian modern classic brimming with compassion, humour, and insight - and a hymn to the human spirit in an inhuman state.

What an incredible journey

This book took me on an incredible journey. I got to know the main characters so well they felt like my friends. By the end, I was left riveted. A must read!

Amazing 'A fine balance'

This book is brilliant ! Shockingly Brilliant. Probably one of the best books I ever read. It is deeply disturbing and it will take me a while to recover. I will be reading more of Rohinton Mystry books, but not till I have this one out of my system.

An incredible journey.

For someone who doesn't read, this was a challenge to get started but the more I read the more I wanted to read. It is written beautifully. Torturous, touching, evocative, heartbreaking. I find it difficult to comprehend the reality of it all.
