Description

SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE DIRECTED BY CLINT EASTWOOD
He is the deadliest American sniper ever, called “the devil” by the enemies he hunted and “the legend” by his Navy SEAL brothers . . .
From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle earned legendary status among his fellow SEALs, Marines, and U.S. Army soldiers, whom he protected with deadly accuracy from rooftops and stealth positions. Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle's masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the great war memoirs of all time.
A native Texan who learned to shoot on childhood hunting trips with his father, Kyle was a champion saddle-bronc rider prior to joining the Navy. After 9/11, he was thrust onto the front lines of the War on Terror, and soon found his calling as a world-class sniper who performed best under fire. He recorded a personal-record 2,100-yard kill shot outside Baghdad; in Fallujah, Kyle braved heavy fire to rescue a group of Marines trapped on a street; in Ramadi, he stared down insurgents with his pistol in close combat. Kyle talks honestly about the pain of war—of twice being shot and experiencing the tragic deaths of two close friends.
American Sniper also honors Kyles fellow warriors, who raised hell on and off the battlefield. And in moving first-person accounts throughout, Kyles wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their marriage and children, as well as on Chris.
Adrenaline-charged and deeply personal, American Sniper is a thrilling eyewitness account of war that only one man could tell.

American Sniper

I wanted to read about Chris Kyle before the movie American Sniper, as I didn't wasn't it to colour my imagination prior to reading the book. I'll be watching the movie next & then reading Taya's book American Wife to find out how she coped with the loss & legend of her husband.

American Bulls%itter more like

This murderer has just been exposed all over the media for being a chronic lying head case now so why is this story even being told as we all know that he just murdered women and children for sport! This is a disgusting tale and the USA should be ashamed to promote this lying dead fool

Great read

Very informative, gives a more in depth feeling to the character of Chris Kyle. Although I personally do not share his viewpoint on several matters the immersion felt while reading each experience gives you as close a taste as any civvy will get to being on the frontline. Inspiring.

Murder is never legal

Awful awful propaganda trying to justify a war nobody wanted. This man killed over 150 people, called Iraqi's savages and said he wished he "could've killed more of them". I'm at a loss as to why people think this is heroic? And the film is even worse. War isn't one-sided, if YOU barge into people's countries then YOU will be treated as an invader. Goddamn this man didn't have even an ounce if empathy. How dare he have the audacity to be all "boo hoo I shot a child pls pity me and call me heroic". No sympathy for the country him and his own country ravished, no thought for the lives he ruined. People love being sheep and saying "he protected our country", um from what exactly? Didn't realise there were people invading America's borders. He didn't become a sniper because he's a good soldier, to protect or to serve. No, he did it because he was raised as a gun-happy racist Texan, he did it cos he liked it, he likes shooting, he likes killing, and he was smart enough to do it in the only environment where it's deemed legal. Wake up people and stop branding the wrong people as "heroes". You're all so selfish and self absorbed that you don't even realise what unwanted wars that YOU start do to these countries. And you guys don't even know propaganda when you see it.

Awesome

Book deals with the harsh realities faced by our soldiers on the front line and the sacrifices they make daily. It covers the effect it can have on them and their families. A truly brilliant read and a great movie as well

Inspired

I would just like to say how amazing and inspiring this book is. I always dreamed of being a reconnaissance specialist and Chris's book inspired me even more. I might only be eleven but I understood every word and it was very well written. I respect everything you have been through and hope that someday I meet you.

Cheaper to buy the book

Bought the book today for £3.75 from Tesco. How is it that I can buy a tangible copy of a book and hold it in my hands but the digital copy is more expensive ??? Notwithstanding .... It is brilliant....

What a "Legend"

It's a little unfair for me to judge the book 5 stars as I've only seen the film bought have bought the book to read (it's often how I role ... Lol I'm a lazy reader ) but the story is so exhilarating and tragic and edge of seat the struggles between patriotism and civie life are so deep and heart wrenching and I can't wait to read the accounts as films sometimes leave out crucial detail that have to be cut for movie times .... To the chris and his family thank you for telling your story ... I wish I had known him personally as he would have been a great friend to have ..... "True Legend"
