Description

Do you sabotage your own happiness and success? Are you struggling to make sense of yourself? Do your emotions sometimes dictate your life?
The Chimp Paradox is an incredibly powerful mind management model that can help you become a happy, confident, healthier and more successful person. Prof Steve Peters explains the struggle that takes place within your mind and then shows how to apply this understanding to every area of your life so you can:
- Recognise how your mind is working
- Understand and manage your emotions and thoughts
- Manage yourself and become the person you would like to be
The Chimp Mind Management Model is based on scientific facts and principles, which have been simplified into a workable model for easy use. It will help you to develop yourself and give you the skills, for example, to remove anxiety, have confidence and choose your emotions. The book will do this by giving you an understanding of the way in which your mind works and how you can manage it. It will also help you to identify what is holding you back or preventing you from having a happier and more successful life.
Each chapter explains different aspects of how you function and highlights key facts for you to understand. There are also exercises for you to work with. By undertaking these exercises you will see immediate improvements in your daily living and, over time, you will develop emotional skills and practical habits that will help you to become the person that you want to be, and live the life that you want to live.

It changed me for the better

I am an advocate for this book! I can’t shout about it loud enough. The simplicity and flow of the reading makes it very easy to use. If you have. This book lets you see passed other people’s perceptions and negativity. If your someone who has to explain their actions, or over thinks situations then this book will begin to make you think and act in a whole different way. I now rationalize everything. Personally I think the way I handled situations before I read this book scared me. I isolated myself because I did not want to act the way I was, I knew I could not hurt anyone if I stayed by myself. I went in several anger management courses and would be ok for a few weeks. now I am able to put myself in situations and control my chimp, xx

Very Stimulating

Before purchasing I saw that some reviews were stating this book is repetitive. I did not really find this to be the case but if I did find an area that wasn’t applicable to my goals I simply skimmed it.
All in all this book is a power puncher and definitely worth a read. I look at my emotions differently now as well as that of others and I don’t seem to be as judgement.
Buy the book and enjoy it!

Interesting insights on the mind and tips to improve

Understanding the forces that play within oneself is what this books offers, together with the possibility to ale some practical steps to enhance life quality.
The metaphors used are of great help to simplify all the areas of the brain responsible for behavioural changes and makes it easier to remember and relate

A must read for all teachers!

As a teacher involved in the development of student wellbeing I was looking for a tool that students could use during their time at school and when they leave. As educators we talk a lot about lifelong learning but apart from CV building what life tools do we really give them? For me understanding the emotional part of the brain (the inner chimp) is essential for students to mature and take responsibility for their own actions. We use the teachings from this book on a whole school level and have been amazed by the benefits seen. This really is a must for all educators!!!

The Chimp Paradox

What a fascinating insight into the human mind! I found this very easy to read, partly because it was broken down into quite short chapters, partly because the practical examples used to illustrate the concepts made it very accessible and partly because it seemed so relevant to my own situation. It didn't demand a big time commitment and I found I was applying it to everyday life, analysing other people's conversations! It covered lots of different topics such as happiness, self confidence and health and wellbeing. It has certainly helped me see life in a more positive way and to control my chimp! Highly recommended!

Monkey Business

This book confimrs the fact that you have a chimp inside you that cannot change or be changed, but hey you can manage it. This book has been very insightful to me. The Stone of Life has been truly helpful and a very valauble tool. I highly recommend this book if you are a doubter or keep beating yourself up with no real reason to do so. I am now managing my chimp.

The chimp paradox

Awesome!! Absolutely brilliant mind management book. I am a mother of 3 who has battled with anxiety & at times depression throughout most of my adult life. Not any more, this book has shown me very simply how the mind works and has helped me understand that many of my worries are truly unfounded but quite normal because of how the mind works. It has been written so that anyone can read it & be helped by it. I have bought it for everyone in my family, even my 14 yr old daughter has put many of her dysfunctional thoughts to rest after reading this book. If I could shake the authors hand right now, I'd fear I'd shake his hand off, as I cannot thank him enough for this masterpiece.

The chimp paradox

Wish I had read this book years ago. It would have saved a lot of worry and stress. I am going to buy the hard copy too so that I can encourage my family to read it. Very very enlightening. I don't normally write reviews.

The Chimp Paradox

A riveting read which I found difficult to put down.
It is not however a book you should race through to finish, take your time to understand the various aspects of both human and chimp thinking.
I have already put a number of the suggested exercises into practice in my life and found instant benefits.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading any future publications by Steve Peters.

Practical and authentic- could replace lots of other leadership/effectiveness books!

Have read a pile of leadership/effectiveness books, and found this one addresses fundamentals in much more effective and common sense way.
Don't really need chimps, gremlins and planets as analogies, however can tell it is based on how our brains really work!

Change your life for the better...

At last a book with a methodology that works...a toolbox that really helps you effect the changes you really want in your life. Not New Agey platitudes but simple quick exercises that give insight, clarity and empower rational thought.
Result-a path to happiness.
Thank you Steve and team!

The Chimp Paradox

They say it is far harder to make things simple than complex. Dr Steve Peters makes this journey through ones mind and how to manage it, a simple and enjoyable experience. It all made sense and I found I could put the advice to use straight away.

The Chimp Paradox

Very clever interpretation of the mind and how we use it. As a sufferer of anxiety it was such an insight to understanding who I am and how I need to change my thinking to recover and remain well. Really excellent book would recommend to anyone interested in understanding how the mind works and how to retrain your mind and change the way you think.

Mind boggling

Although the principals seemed logical like the computer, human, chimp, gremlin etc that you were encouraged to liken your mind to. It was the scenarios that I felt were slightly patronising. " if someone pushed in front of you in a que how would you feel - people are better than me" Umm no, give me something to cling on to here please. Just couldn't understand why the book was so intelligently thought about but the life case history's were a little to simple for the theories to be applied. I did love however the question about your life values, I can't wait to ask everyone one I know the same!

Great direction for a lot of work ahead

Steve Peters succeeds in characterising complex neurological emotional reactions into a very practical guide without sacrificing the scale, complexity and effort involved in success.
This is a very useful guide and framework for anyone that wants to develop themselves or support others to resolve intrinsic self limiting problems.
I would love to see more developed examples and mini case studies to emphasise some of the points and as a student would be a customer for further in depth work / supplementary courses etc...
I have become a follower and I am working hard to put the lessons into place. The results so far have been very emotionally settling and have changed my perspective on success and how I relate to others.
Thanks for the direction, this has provided a level of fundamental depth that no other leadership or self development work that I have studied so far has provided.
Great work and also well done in all the work in making team GB cycling the very best in the world.

Buy this book now!

Dr Peters is the man who has advised the Olympic Cycling team to prepare them for these games, and frankly that is reason enough to buy, read and digest his wonderful book.
My review will simply say as everyone else has said; buy it, read it and it will change your way of thinking forever. No ifs, no buts; it will.
Thank you Dr Peters, I may not be Olympic standard at anything, nor will I ever be, but I have a much happier Chimp thanks to you, and am a happier Human. Is that enough? Yes, most definitely!

The Chimp Paradox

There are mind management books and then there's the Chimp Paradox. I have read many books in this genera over the years looking for simple mind management techniques that make a real difference, Dr Peters approach hit the spot from the first chapter and just kept on delivering.
Chapter after chapter I found myself recognising and being able to fix traits that other books have both failed to identify and seldom offered solutions as simple that work as quickly as those outlined in this book.
If you've often wondered why you can go from the calmest most rational human being to the complete opposite in seconds then you need to read this book! Quite simply inspiring.
