This book is a masterclass in storytelling. It is little wonder it has withstood the test of time. Whilst my first acquaintance with the Bennett’s was at school I have read this story countless times since. Its story of times gone by with damsels and gentlemen creates a gentle longing for a simpler life…only momentarily though given the many gains to the possibilities for women in modern society!
