Description
A life like no other. From a hard rural England childhood in the 50s to dropping out of education before his 15th birthday to go backpacking through Europe and North Africa in the swinging 60s, this bearded, tattooed man carved a niche for himself worldwide after volunteering in Kenya in the 70s. He embarked on an extraordinary life of international development where he navigated diplomatic and political landscapes filled with bureaucracy, corruption and danger, which earned him an OBE. He’s been set upon by drug-crazed boy soldiers in Uganda, wrestled Somali carjackers, lost his sight in Egypt, and defied the Taliban to bring education to girls in Pakistan, where his uncompromising stand against corruption saw him being given 24 hours to get out of the country. From humble beginnings, this story tells us that anything is possible when you have a dream and the determination to make it a reality.
