Extraordinarily intense and gripping from beginning to end.
It is very difficult to explain just how fantastic the story, crafted by James Dashner, actually is without revealing the extent of the stories intensity.
Thomas awakes inside "the box" as he becomes the newest member of The a Glade. Without any memories (except for his name) the reader is taken on an extraordinary journey of adventure both rich with detailed description and sentence structure. Dashner transports, through a series of shortish chapters, the reader through the daily trials of the Gladers and the rise to power of Thomas.
Despite taking time to read, due to work, I often found that I was unable to put down the book for large sections due to the versatile and engaging way that Dashner writes. Having never seen the film, I was keen to research the appearance of the Maze's deadly Grievers. Whilst they were nothing like I had imagine, I can not help but vow never to watch the film as it would destroy what, is for me at least, one of the best young fiction books of a generation.
I have purchased the rest of the series to read whilst I am on holiday, but it is a must for anyone above the age of ten or those for a passion for adventure.
The ending was sensational and certainly made me cry, whilst feeding my desire to read on. The epilogue is by far the best aspect of the book, purely for the dread that grew within my stomach with the revelation it provides.
