As a user I mostly enjoy using this app but many times it crashes out of nowhere when I try to use a tool in more than 5000 by 5000 pixels even if I have more then 5 GB of storage available. Actually see if you do the swiping art on canvas, various acrylic colours added on the canvas directly from bottle or tube and swipe them with a swiper to create abstract pattern. Been in contact with the support team multiple times but hasn’t been able to solve the issue yet of laggy and choppy brush response. Tried all and every suggestion of theirs. Even reinstalled app twice. Has been using procreate for couple of years now but never had any issue in the past until now. As a professional portrait artist, it is turning out to be impossible to work. My Apple Pencil works flawlessly in other Apple apps like Freeform. Fresco was my go-to but since I got a new iPad, I’ve bought PROCREATE however I’ve come across multiple bugs & issues. There are occasional crashes while drawing & support for Pencil seems 80% baked. There are times where I can’t select colour or use colour fill from the colour palette using my pencil. Then the UI gets irresponsive but I can still draw until the app crashes. I hardly use 3 layers with my screen resolution and still get micro stutters while panning/zooming the canvas at times. I sometimes gets misreads/misfires using Pencil. I can assure the team it isn’t to do with my hardware but your software that’s yet to be optimised for M2. I look forward to changing my 2 start to a 5 star review once these bugs are ironed out for good. Would love to give more information to better the app!

Procreate is one of those apps that make you want to use the iPad. It’s so fast and intuitive that I end up opening it for everything from quick note taking to sketching out ideas, even though I have other apps to do the same. The feel of the brushes is unparalleled. Every feature is thought out and intentional. The only suggestion I have is that Procreate needs a fill brush(which is like the fill mode in selection settings). It is is a feature in lot of other painting apps and makes quick color blocking a lot easier. Overall a highly recommended app. Even if you are not a professional artist or illustrator, you would enjoy using it.

But off late there’s been this really irritating bug where it doesn’t let me zoom in or select colour without the entire screen shaking violently, making it almost impossible to use. I felt there are some Ui tool or brushes can be improve, like you see, you can not change the brush angles easily as compère with photoshop or infinite painter, another thing is you can found the fish eye perspective infinite painter here you can’t. Even infinite painter and Procreate coming with the same prize range. Original problem: The selection tool in automatic is not filling up the inside of the drawing. It is not giving me the diagonal stripes layer. And in freehand function it is still letting me draw outside the selection. I have to make selection then draw all over it, even outside. While Procreate is a very good app I would strongly suggest you also take a look at clip studio paint. I feel like this is a “the grass is always greener on the other side” kinda situation cus personally, after I purchased Procreate i felt the default brushes were a bit mechanical and low in variety compared to the vast array clip studio paint provides. The only downside to clip studio paint is that there is a monthly subscription payment method and that is quite off putting to a few potential users like myself. point is: do not be in a hurry to buy Procreate, I’d go so far as to say ,it is quite overrated. Do take a look at other options before u rush in to buy this.

It made me come back to sketching.

I’ve been using it for past 5 months. It is a great recreational tool, at least for basic users like me. I use the i pad 8th gen, which is quite basic. And it handles the background processing butter smooth, all thanks to the developers for great optimisation. I hope that they continue to optimise further in the future.

And special mention to the support team for their regular replies to each and every review on the App Store, Great job guys.

Just one request, try including a recycle bin kind of space in your further version updates, it might be a great help to many of the users.

I am an architect and I use this for all my sketching needs. I often gets frustrated when I have scroll up and down frantically to find the stack I want to work on. For every update I check for this feature - folders and folder search ... I had also asked for this feature through Twitter many times but no one is is listening ..please.. it’s a pain to find the right one from some 50 stacks I have 😞. Otherwise it’s a really good tool to work on.

This is a really helpful app but has few limitations and bugs also like:

1. When I do a digital signature of my name, the first letter vanishes and the rest remains.

2. If I create a really high resolution project then I am left with 1 layer option only.

These were some of the major issues otherwise the app is fine with one of the finest and simplest interfaces if compared with other apps out there (both paid and free).

I've been sketching for 4 months now and when I draw or sketch the strokes, they form multiple unnecessary lines. I've been facing this problem from the start. I thought it’d get resolved with time but it didn’t turn out that way. Now after the update the text feature keeps crashing and I’m not able to import photos and neither am I able to import layers from other projects. And now the Procreate even stops responding. I’ve tried restarting the device but nothing worked.

Eye dropper does not open sometimes when I try to open from quick action.

Everything works fine but there’s a small bug I am facing. After working on a project for sometime, when I try to open eye dropper from quick action panel it does not open. Then I close my project and reopen & try the same thing again it start working but after sometime same thing happens again.

I just feel that if there was a layer-wise timeline for animation it would bring down many extra works while doing animation. This would make this app a all in one. MP4 Animations created in the last 2-3 days have issues

I have been using this app to create lots of illustrations and animations for my portfolio. I have been loving this app so much, but I observed that the MP4 Animations created in the last 2-3 days have issues.

Files app & Photos app : When I tried to export to my iPad files, it is not playing when I open it. It is not even detected as a video and I am not able to save it to my videos from the file.

Instagram : If I try to export the MP4 directly to my Instagram post, it keeps saying “Posting” but nothing happens even after waiting for a long time

Google drive : I tried exporting the MP4 to Gdrive and then download it to my files, but the video is not recognised properly and hence it is not getting downloaded. I also tried downloading it on my phone, but I got blank Green video with no content in it.

HEVC : I also tried exporting as Mov format. Though video plays, the video looks corrupted.

Kindly look into this issue ASAP since many of us who use this app to create animations would not be able to do it till the fix is provided.

The options which come in the bar at the bottom like the flip vertical, flip horizontal, rotate 45, fit to screen, snapping, add, remove, copy & paste, feather, colour fill, clear, are not working. First I thought I was doing something wrong. But after watching several tutorials online I understood that there’s some issue with the app itself. I am using an iPad Pro 12.9” 2020 which is running the latest iPadOS 14. Please help.

I have been using this app for over a year now. It has helped me with a lot of projects. However, it was quite heartbreaking to wake up one day and realise that I will no longer be able to use it — simply because I don’t have one of the latest iPad models with the latest software updates. Moreover, I have some artworks saved in the app (that were not exported), and there was no heads-up given in advance regarding not being able to retrieve them ever again. And that’s was REALLY breaks my heart and makes me depressed. It is so unfair, after having worked so hard... with whatever iPad model we could afford... only to have it all snatched away from us. I humbly request you to please look into this matter, and find a way to at least let people like me retrieve their artworks saved in the app... if nothing else.

After the 5x update, the app is crashing very frequently. I open a file and the app closes. The app also crashes when I try to take a PSD out. The reference image screen response is kinda tricky. Sometimes the reference image box doesn’t move.

I love Procreate. It’s changed my digital illustration journey. The textures and results are crazy good, but the app crashing is kinda disappointing after the new update.

Hope this gets fixed in the bug fix update.

About the latest 5X update :

The text thing keeps crashing on a regular basis. Cannot import photos either. It crashes as soon as you hit the photo button. Overall it the response has become a lot slower than before. The screen feature doesn’t seem to work either.

As an illustrator, visual artist, graphic designer, typographer, photographer I believe that Procreate is going to change the way the industry works altogether. Developing content digitally was never easier. For the first time in history we are able to make free form organic designs digitally! No more boring rigidly structured designs everywhere! It is revolutionary! Big love to the visionaries who have been involved in its development. These last few updates have taken it to the next level. The future is in good hands and very bright my friends ;)

It works like magic. I have never used such an amazing drawing app. It is a dream come true for artists. Anyone from beginner to a pro. It’s a must have if you have artist side to you. The experience it offers is out of this world. Respect to the makers of the app. Works like a charm!! I enjoy it on a daily basis. Go for it guys. This is the first app that I downloaded when I got my hands on the new iPad, I’d already set very high expectations, that I’d be able to migrate fully to digital drawing, and this turned out to be so much better that my expectations.

It’s just a joy to use, plus the ecosystem is amazing, with the weekly contests, the procreate Folio showcase, I can go on and on about how much I love this product.

Kudos to the Procreate team, you guys have done an amazing job, keep pushing the boundaries of what creatives can achieve using this magical tool.

P.S - Also, if you could incorporate the Procreate Folio showcase inside the app, that’d be really awesome as well, since a lot of people won’t have to go outside the app to draw inspiration :)

Apple Pencil not drawing in Procreate

The software has been giving me some issues where my Apple Pencil 2 just randomly stops drawing in Procreate. Most brushes don’t work, but if I draw with my finger it works. The Pencil is working just fine but it just doesn’t draw in Procreate other than a few technical pens, rarely. It will randomly stop working for days and then start again. This has been happening for a few months now and I have checked everything online and done everything but nothing has fixed it yet. Hoping someone can help me with this?

It would be very helpful if you could provide a lock/hide or both function to stacks, because my younger siblings uses my procreate to draw things and sometimes when they open my projects accidentally they leave brush strokes on it and it can’t be undone since pressing the gallery option saves the information on the layer. I leave the project with an extra layer selected to avoid this problem, but it is not always doable when you work on larger canvases. Please consider this feature in upcoming updates since it helps a lot of people in various ways.

When i made animation at first it looks good and fresh and no colour fade but after a day or week it loses it’s pixels and gets dull.

It’s not good for digital i mean it should remain sharp.

It is very helpful when you have more layers in your animation. More layers more frames, in previous version there were only 128 layers maximum now it has 250. Worth while.

One more thing which i want to say that could’ve more layers for animation. Just for animation. I know it’s tough because app started mis functions. Overall good work good experience

I’ve been using photoshop for over 2 yrs and most of the brushes were lagging and it was impossible to concentrate over my art work. To be honest I never liked my non screen tablet so I had to find a alternative till I get a MacBook and a display tablet. So I had known iPad Pro with Procreate is an op option for long. So I decided to use some of my saving and ask my parents about it and they were very supportive and bought it for me with Apple Pencil gen 2. As soon as I got it I bought the Procreate and used it. And I’ve to say it is amazing, just how I imagined it though it take some to get used to all the gesture but it’s just amazing

From an animators perspective, the horizontal timeline is a welcome addition along with the option to add onion skin. Also adding a background and foreground layer makes it so much easier to animate. The new brushes are great but I wish they added some flowy watercolour brushes (like in Adobe fresco).

Also, in the future I hope they give the option of adding audio and several tracks in the timeline for animating. So far, this app is my fav for making web comic strips and creating gif animations.

I think this is the best drawing application available for iOS devices with Apple Pencil. My request is if the developers can develop this user friendly app for 2d animation, not light one but for professional animation work, I am not sure what the version 5 is going to deliver for animators, but don’t make the app as clumsy as other drawing apps instead make a separate application for only animation part of workflow..... don’t mind, it’s just a suggestion

I’ve been using Procreate since a year now. This is the best app for sketching on the iPad. I have Photoshop and clip studio on the desktop but they are expensive in comparison. Two great things about Procreate - 1. the interface, u can just forget the iPad and the app and just draw. 2. The HB pencil. Seen nothing like it in any other software. (Request to developers - do have the HB pencil and its family available in Procreate 5 too )

The software is pretty good but the lazy nezumi style smoothing(correction) is not good for drawing and sketching. It works for lettering and designing but for freehand sketching I would prefer smoothing option like the one in clip studio paint ,MediBang and paint tool Sai . Some stuffs are really hard to find since they are hidden from plain sight , like the paint bucket tool (or whatever you would call the drag and drop colour thing)is so weird I gave up using it after a few try.. overall it’s a good software but I would prefer the interface a bit more user friendly and easily accessible tools and a medibang like smoothing feature even if it’s added as an extra

It needs Text support. Actually, I wish it allowed me to make custom fonts and save them as font files.

The procedure to add more brushes should have been a little easier like pasting it in some folder and restarting the app.

Also, i wish if there was a graphic store like clip art we have on microsoft office integrated with the app where graphics could be uploaded to a common cloud and shared between all users. It would have created a massive group of user developed graphics for quick use.

I have been using Procreate for a few months now, and I am definitely finding the interface better than photoshop when it comes to illustration. The app in not really a substitute for the full Photoshop software, but is still the best answer for illustrating on the go.

One little complaint though: the app is listed in the Entertainment category by the App Store, and ends up skewing my usage statistics in Screen Time. It looks like I spend all my time watching videos on the iPad. This also becomes a problem when I try to set a time limit for the entertainment apps.

I wish they had a magic selection tool that had a layer selection or a screen selection like in MediBang with its bucket fill tool where the bucket fill areas formed by different layers just cause they look whole in the screen...which is very useful sometimes...I also want them to make better sketching brushes...the ones they have right now are too grainy...but I guess that’s my fault too since I can make custom brushes but just haven’t figured it out yet. But look at the pencil brush in medibang....it’s so perfect...the right amount of sensitivity and fade....I wish I could export that brush into Procreate somehow. And lastly need a ‘extract line art’ option from a picture so that it’s easier to work on a traditional sketch into procreate

This app is only for drawing purposes only. Yes! You might/will get impressed & exited by the illusions shown in the app previews, but trust me those are absolutely misguiding and misleading. In my opinion, those illustrations were made by artists who were paid to do so, but even those guys don’t use this app in daily professional use. There are many issues: like resolution changes on resizing, selection tool is absolute rubbish, NO TEXT SUPPORT - if you are into logo designing this is definitely not the app for you, TRUST ME! No ruler/dimension support, etc, etc, etc.

But in all fairness this app is the best app for designing in the AppStore for iPad (It is what it is).

It’s very likely that you’ve bought new iPad and you will download this app even after reading this review and YOU WILL GET DISAPPOINTED AFTERWARDS, UNLESS some other app came out with all these features like maybe Photoshop(full version), coral draw, etc. This app will be thing of past unless updated.

So conclusion - definitely not for professional use, you better get back to desktop or make a new and better application for everyone including me.
