Description

Rogue Touch is based on the classic dungeon crawler Rogue. This famous turn based adventure-RPG has been re-designed from the ground up for easy touch screen gaming, no crazy keyboard commands or dozens of hard to learn gestures here! Rogue Touch is so simple a child can play, but still offers deeply strategic gameplay and literally hundreds of hours of fun and replay value!
Your mission is simple: Explore the Dungeons of Doom while trying to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor... Descend into the depths, find and identify strange and powerful items... Learn how to use your pack full of equipment effectively against increasingly dangerous monsters. Few have made it out alive with the Amulet. Do you have what it takes?
If you liked games such as Torneko / トルネコ / Taloon or Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer (Chunsoft) you have to play Rogue Touch! Rogue is the great-grandfather of these games and spawned an entire genre of "roguelikes" over nearly 40 years.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Rogue Touch is really a dream-come-true for fans of the genre. It's an impressive adaptation of a true classic." - Blake Patterson, TouchArcade.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rogue Touch features:
- Random dungeon layouts and items: no two games are ever the same!
- Graphical, animated actions, special monster attacks, traps, and more.
- Ambient background dungeon sounds, or play your own music while gaming.
- Auto-mapping feature with map overlay (including locations of doors, stairs, monsters and items)!
- Streamlined inventory-item-action system for simple touch gameplay. Read scrolls, Drink potions (or throw them at your enemies!) and much more with a clear, simple interface.
- Movement/Attacking is handled with classic touch control or a virtual D-Pad for single handed gaming on the go.
- Dedicated on-screen buttons for both "resting" to heal your character, and "searching" to find traps and secret doors.
- Auto save system records your progress upon exiting the game so you can resume exactly where you left off next time you play.
- All of the monsters and items as seen in the Rogue ports of the mid 1980s, plus *many* new items!
- Secret characters to discover and play as, with powerful special equipment and abilities!
- Online Leaderboards with many ranking categories and statistics! View your rank at: BestRogues.ChronoSoft.com

What's New in Version 2.0.64

Version 2.0.64:
* ZOMG an update, after 4 years!
* WOW its a big update!
* HEY there's a bunch of new and cool stuff in this update!
* 64-Bit Compatible, Position Independent Executable (iOS 8.0 is the new minimum requirement). Portions of the game engine have been re-written to support this as well as the other new features below... You don't even want to know the massive number of deprecations I had to fix dating back to the original support for iOS 2 (º_o)
* Retina Graphics - The dungeon never looked better thanks to a ton of new artwork by Jake Woodruff and a bit of tweaking by yours truly. Everything has been re-imagined in Hi-Res detail.
* Retina Text - Fixed again what has been broken for several iOS revisions, all text is now silky smooth.
* Play Your Own Music - Finally, seamless automatic detection means you can explore dungeons without interrupting your jam (or streaming, or podcast, or audiobook!). Rogue Touch also respects your mute switch.
* Gameplay Improvements - In addition to the classic "Search" for secret doors, you can simply walk into / push on walls where you believe the door is hidden. If you're correct it will be revealed automatically! Secret Doors and Traps may have small but noticeable visual differences now to help clue you in ;)
* Gameplay Improvements Part II - Interesting tweaks for extra damage and/or elemental immunities when weilding special weapons like ice, fire, electric, and blessed.
* Dungeon Improvements - Subtle tweaks to dungeon generator for room sizing, treasure placement, and more. Secret doors should nearly always lead somewhere interesting now, rather than a potential dead end.
* Pinch Zoom Improvements - Now you can enhance your view by zooming anywhere from 25% to 200% size to appreciate the detailed graphics close-up and personal.
* Settings Improvements - Finally, it's super easy access to RT settings, just touch the gear icon found in the upper left corner on the Title Screen.
* BUGFIXES - Lots of little annoying bugs fixed to provide a better dungeon exploring experience! Fixes for various crash conditions, stair placement bugs, and game-lockup at item use during the last turn before death are included.
If you enjoy playing this newly enhanced version of Rogue Touch, please write a review and let everyone know!

Got the Amulet, making my way back to the surface and there seem to be an awful lot of dragons about... and hey!! Every room that has a dragon has piles and piles of gold around! Sweet!!!
Best iPort of Rogue I've seen & I've played them all! Can’t wait to check out Rogue 2.
Five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Version 2.0.64
It was great four years ago and it's even better today with an update to graphics and plenty of nice little extra touches.
One of the best Roguelikes on the App Store, easy to learn, not so easy to master...

Great game (64bit awesome!)

Rogue touch is a fantasic port of a game that spans the time of gaming. The fact that each game has a completely new layout as well as unidentified items randomly generating (i.e. blue potion may be healing, but can end up being potion of haste the next time you play) so that you can never suss the game out for an easy finish. What this means is that it has excellent replay value, i think i have played over 50-60 games and still have not finished the game. The developers are also one of the most interactive who DO listen to requests from users as well as ironing out any bugs that may pop up with each upgrade. If you like adventure games and are up for a challenge that few have succeded, get this game.
Edit: so pleased this will continue to be on my phone. Every now and then I'll fire it up and that's me hooked for a few months. Essential purchase and worth going to the forum for new starters, a knowledgable community awaits.

Version 1.70
I've tried all of the rouge games on the App Store and this is the current leader. Lots of depth for new players and if like me your an avid fan of Rogue, Moria or Angband then you'll feel right at home with Rogue Touch. Some improvements are definitely needed. You can't move diagonally if your just before a corner, or if you have a wall either side of you - this puts you at a huge disadvantage when running from monsters when your health is low. THIS NEEDS FIXING PLEASE DEVS. Also the dungeon maps are really basic and need to be much bigger with more variation similar to how Moria/Zangband managed to achieve this (treasure rooms at greater depths, chests of goodies with locks to pick etc). How about NOT keeping the rigorous perm-death (in app purchase maybe)? Very much look forward to new updates. Keep up the good work- it's still the best rogue on iOS for the time being.

Great

Would like a little more depth though. Possible to eat corpses, character classes etc. Plays amazingly smoothly but want some extra nethack features in there! The current nethack offering on iphone has horrible controls.

A fantastic experience that will help you lose hours trying to survive and retrieve the Amulet of Yendor. A lively user forum and involved developer mean this is going to grow and grow. Don't expect it to be easy though it is a challenge to beat.
Edit the latest update adds more features including many requested by the users. In three words. GET IT NOW

A great game, and will have you engaged for hours on end, though I'm giving it a 4 and not a 5 because of the dead end dungeons with no exit I keep getting on playthroughs :@ but other than that, buy it!

Bit lame

If you really want a die hard port of rogue then it's the best version on the iphone but it really is a bit lame. There are other better roguelike apps available. Controls are clunky to use and the interface is just not very good. If it was 0.99c then I'd say it was ok but at this price no, there's better apps to spend your money on.

Slick, simple, deep

Rogue is not a game that's easy to get into straight away - it takes a little time to get the hang of. Hence the negative reviews from some people who admit to giving up after a couple of minutes. That's not a fair way to assess a game like this.
I never played Rogue before, but I do have very happy memories of Moria many years ago, a more complex version of the same game. Rogue is the original RPG, stripped to its most basic - no character classes - but still has immense depth and replayability (mainly from the vast repertoire of objects and monsters). This version is an absolute delight. It looks great, with smart clean graphics, and more importantly plays extremely smoothly. The menu system works very well after the minimal time it takes to get used to it, the icons are well thought out, and the multiple options for the movement controls are excellent. There is a rival version of Rogue available for iPhone/iTouch which is free, but this one is far superior, at least in my opinion. It is certainly friendlier. Well worth the small cost. Plus it is very forgiving to your battery, unlike flashier-looking games - combine that with the depth of gameplay and you have the ideal game for long journeys.

Being a fan of RPGs but not quite old enough to have experienced Rogue or Roguelikes first hand, I was intrigued to find this app and purchased to see what the fuss was about. I am very happy to report that it has provided hours of enjoyment and I am quite addicted to getting further and further into the dungeons each time I play. I’d recommend any RPG fan to give it a go!
P.S. For anyone who needs tips, the developer’s forum is a great resource.

This is great!

Love this old school gaming great fun everytime, even after you die you want to play again.

Every review said that it is an amazing game, so as most people would i believed them and brought it.
After i opened up the game for the first time i clicked new game. only because i did not see and tutorial or anything. I DIED AFTER 15 STEPS!!! I had no idea of what i was doing. then i played a little bit more i just decided that it was boring. you just walk around with pretty crappy controls, and just randomly click on stuff.
after i died again i went back to the home screen and clicked on the little
( i ) sybol thing thats on most apps and there i found a bit of back story.
after that i exited and came back to do this review. i really dont see what the other review are talking about!!!
the only thing i can work out is that this game is pretty big on the pc and 1st gen consoles.
SO IF YOU DIDN'T PLAY IT THEN, YOU PROBABLY WONT LIKE IT.
overall, i have left the game now with no interest of EVER playing again.
i dont know if this is coming out as pretty harsh. but i just found it really boring
just to add
i did this review after playing with the "amazing" new update 1.5 or somthing so you know that this review is not outdated
i would have wasted time doing this review if i didn't feel strongly about this
thanks

I'm not a fan of the genre, having never played rogue or D&D or WoW, but I love this game! I avoided it for ages thinking I wouldn't like it but was tempted by the Easter sale. I've played almost none stop all weekend, avoiding work, missing sleep, irritating friends. So maybe this isn't such a great review after all? Seriously though, this is hugely replayable, attractively retro, highly supported (responsive developer), and a LOT of FUN!

A nice version of Rogue.
I did, however, think that the game was open source and not "sellable" due to inellectual copyright etc?
--- a bit of hunting around found a good answer to the above. It's all above board. Good stuff! ---
Apart from that, a good effort. Needs more Angband/nethack type options as it's a little too simplistic at the mo IMHO.
--- New stuff is being added each update ---
More User options are also needed so they can play the way they want.
Perhaps, release your version of the tileset so we can change those tiles we are not fond of. I used to remake my old irogue tileset on me ppc all the time. And made the game far more personal.
The ability to set custom names for pets etc in nethack was great too.
It's def getting there, keep those updates comming.
I'll up the rating as you update.

Update
After owning this for a few weeks I must admit I really like it.
My only caveat is it's not as "deep" as other roguelikes as I stated before so, for me, isn't such a timesink and doesn't have the "just one go more-ability" yet.
--- Oh, how naieve I was. It's slightly less addictive than breathing ---
I am really looking forwards to any updates for all my griping.
Still, def worth the investment.
---update---
Well, with 1.5 about to hit the store, how do I feel about this app?
It's bloomin' great.
The regular updates fix/add bugs and new features which improve the game imesureably.
Have a quick glance at the official forums to see the amount of user input and developer interaction, and you'll soon see this is an app with a future.
How it's not in the Top 50 I'll never know. Especially with some of the drokking stuff that apple seems to put up there.
Don't expect flashy paralax graphics and amazing sounds, although sonically and visually it's fine.
Do expect addictive and strategic old school gameplay.
Well worth the cash.
--- 1.5 update ---
With the bugfix and added features there really is no reason not to shell out for this.
Just be prepared to not get any sleep!

Rogue is a classic, and the gameplay on this iPhone version is as compelling as ever! The touch controls work really well and the game is smooth & stable. Throw in online leaderboards, a good forum community and a developer that actually cares and adds requested features, and you have a game that's well worth the price and will keep you entertained for hours (and hours, and hours, and hours....)
That being said; give me my ASCII tileset! :D

Just fantastic! I hadn't played any Rogue games before this but being a fan of RPG and strategy I thought it was worth a shot. I'm glad I did because it's so much fun. Monsters, potions, weapons - a great fantasy adventure.

This brings back nostalgic memories of Rogue on the Atari ST. This is a great version of classic Rogue brought up-to-date with some nice graphics and a great touch interface. It also seems to have a developer who listens and is planning on taking the game forward in the future. Well worth the price, even though there is a free version.

Having played many versions of Rogue on various systems this has to be the best yet. This is a brilliant well polished version of Rogue with the potential of having the game backed up by a great website for all fans to find out information and contribute to the game (The developers appear really keen to listen to their customers). Hopefully with enough support the game will evolve to become even better. This is going to keep me busy for a long time. Many thanks !
