Good game, but difficult to play without Controller support! Please fix that SEGA and then I would give it a much better rating. Why no controller support when Sonic 1 and 2 does????!

I like sonic 4 it has been a perfect ride and I love the app Im very mad that it had low pitched the sounds effects but not OST music note: I had 7 emeralds on my iPad before and tilt the screen on the game then UPDATED IN 2016

This looked the business at first but it just lacks the feel of Sonic. Graphics are amazing and there’s some nice touches but it just doesn’t do it for me. Also, no game pad support? Come on Sega? If it’s possible on classic Sonic ports surely it’s possible here? Such a shame!

I really enjoyed playing Sonic the Hedgehog, and I think this game really keeps the series going because of its relentless action! You can do any level you want, so you do not have to complete any in order (other than special stages of course), so this is great if you are stuck on one level! It is challenging, but you get loads of lives easily, so it does not get boring really easily. Keep it up Sega!

code is outdated and badly optimised, gameplay is really wonky, sonic loses all forwards momentum the second you release the directional buttons completely breaking jumps and making the game so awkward.

After accidentally buying this game, I thought I might as well give it a go... complete waste of time and is rubbish. Needs calibrating badly, sonic doesn’t even move properly using the joy sticks. Stick to the free version. It’s so much better!

While most people on YouTube say it is the worst game ever but really I found it pretty enjoyable the only problem is the really long acts and the bosses having there own level instead of being in act 2 or 3

Sonic The Hedgehog can sometimes be impossible to control because he runs off by himself without touching the controls. And when he’s running by himself I can’t make him jump. Please fix this bug for me. Thank you.

While this game has its issues and is not the true Sonic experience, the levels are great for speedrunning and the level variations are pretty retro. Despite what many people think, this game is great.

TL;DR: Menus are stretched and so look pixelated and horrible, inconsistent framerate, long load times, all mobile exclusive issues still remain (such as Sonic's bad running animation, or the inability to rotate the screen), and music still cannot be played in the background without being interrupted and stopped by the game.

While the fact that the game is finally widescreen is very much appreciated, the ways that it is in widescreen make it look a lot worse in most aspects. For example, every menu, even in the loading screens, are just stretched. So badly, to the point of making it look like the menus are sub hd - which in fact they are. It seems that every individual pixel is visible making it look like all that was done was stretching the image, no anti aliasing or nothing. Even classic Sonic on the loading screen is stretched so badly, you can see how the there is a kind of border around it due to the fact that it was cropped so badly. I'm running this on an iPhone 6s, not 6s+, so the fact that the game is stretched horribly is noticeable even on a smaller screen. What is even more baffling is the fact that even on 6S hardware, the game can't keep a steady framerate. I'm not sure if this applies to every level, but in Casino Street Act 1, the framerate cannot make it's mind up from the moment I start the level. It doesn't dip to single digit frames thankfully, but it was so bad in the level I couldn't decide if the game was running at 25 frames per second or 30 - with the game outright freezing every now and then for a moment. Even the loading screens, which should be near instant for graphics this bad, reach about 10-15 seconds. So apart from the fact that all of the menus are stretched horribly, most of the sounds are of a much lower pitch than before, which doesn't seem like it would make a difference at all, but in fact it makes the game sound a whole lot worse. A good example of this is evident the moment you enter the app. The classic "Sayy-Gaa" now sounds like someone was forced to yell it while crying. You have to hear it to understand how noticeable it is. There is also the matter of a new character model for Sonic. I will admit it looks a whole lot better than before, but Sonic still doesn't go into his full on running animation unless he is running down a slope, which makes him look goofy, and is such a strange omission. The console versions did it, so why can't this version? This version also lacks the feature to change rotation, which is simply mind boggling as to why this wasn't implemented. And while it may sound like I'm nitpicking, all these points add up to make it seem like a trainee updated this game with only one day to do it. All of these changes could be made very easily, so it just comes down to Sega being lazy. Once again, it is nice to see that Sega has finally updated the game, but when the update is this bad, there really is no point in updating it in the first place.

Oh and maybe the fact that the camera goes haywire whenever you go through a loop should be fixed too. It isn't cool to look at, it just makes you very confused as to what even happened.

This would be 4 stars if it wasn't that it crashes on my iPod on the last level in space. Not as good as the original sonics so its not going to be 5 even after the problems but is worth it if your already a sonic fan. Please fix the crashes.

This is a charming game with good graphics. However it's weirdly difficult in some places and the 'joystick' is much too small.

It's playable but episode II is way better.

Looks great and would probably be a lot of fun. Unfortunately the controls are fiddly and unresponsive and spoil the flow and momentum that the game should have.

My son and I were looking forward to playing the latest instalment of Sonic the Hedgehog as we have had so much playing the original games together. Unfortunately everytime we try to play the game it crashes within minutes. We are left disappointed and out of pocket. Cheers! 👍🏻

The game won't connect to gamecenter, so nothing I do in the game shows up on it.

I downloaded this game and was really excited to play it, but I get to the point where old-style Sonic is running on the loading page before the first level, and then the app crashes. I've tried deleting and reinstalling - nothing happened. Please fix this! I can't play it until you do :( Thanks!

Every time I load up this game, it runs slow and crashes non-stop every time I ever play this game. For your next update, I want full bug fixes that won't cause this game to crash or start up slow. Congrats for bringing back Episode 2 though.

I brought this game many moons back when i had a 3GS and it has looked very dated since retina display came out. But not any more! Looks and plays great now on my iPad! Thanks for this update Sega. Now can we have sonic 3 & Knuckles plse??
