i love Soma: donate when i can, BUT i cant recommend this app.
if you have it running in the background and go to check who you’re listening to, it restarts but keeps casting too.you have to recast, or have audio come from both the device and the chromecast.
every single time.
its been reported a couple of times, 1st time a couple of years ago and it either cant be fixed or there is no inclination to.
if you don't want to cast then its not going to be an issue. but i do so its 2 stars from me. Its a real shame. 2020 ipad and chromecast audio used.

If you can't stand radio commercials, or self obsessed DJs, then this is for you. SomaFM = Wall to Wall Music.
This app allows you to neatly access all the various channels SomaFM broadcast rather than sifting through a generic internet radio app. It shows track listings and links to music in real time.
I believe that the funds go to the radio station, so think of your purchase as a support donation, rather than buying something.
Easily worth the price!!!!

I don’t usually leave reviews but had to in this case.
I’ve listened to SomaFM for many years. There’s something for everyone.
This app serves to make what was a great experience even better. Plenty of functionality.
Most importantly and despite being in a dwindling minority it works natively with my Panasonic AllPlay network player. If you have an Apple airplay or chrome cast device there is native support for those devices too.
Get it downloaded!
Great App, for music you would not normally be aware of.

I've been a long time listener to many of Soma FMs stations through other internet radio apps, so am more than happy to donate by purchasing this app and of course donating more in the future.
Superb stations, only a couple of which aren't to my personal tastes but I'm still happy they're there if that makes sense.
The songs very rarely repeat, and I've discovered great new music thanks to Soma. Thanks to in-car wifi and the ease of use app I can now drive and listen to the stations much easier than before.
Highly recommended. There's something here for everyone.

This app is also good because you can bookmark tracks you like for acquisition later!
I wonder why the play and share buttons are always grayed out...

It's nice too see my iPad screen being used as intended instead of zoomed in iPhone size.
Although, I'm not sure that the new 'this is the station you are now listening to' (lasting long enough even if once is ok) audio shout out every single time you play/pause/unpause on the same station or any other station is necessary, though. I already know the station, presumably. I just wanna get to tunes! Like, radio!

The music selection is fantastic. And the station choice is brilliant. This is how niche webcasting should be done.
The app keeps things simple. Station list with now playing tracks and listener counts, track histories, high/lo bandwidth options, ability to donate (it's a listener supported model), song favouriting, community and news.
This would be a five star app if it included a sleep timer.

The best currated music selection of it's kind, and the app just works so smoothly.
Listen to the music at their website, and if you like it buy the app. Don't worry about the cost--see it as your first donation to keep these guys going.
There are no adds, and quality curated music-that doesn't appear by magic.
The offer to donate is so low key that I have done so on a number of occasions, just as a thank you to these guys. Nice to see a commercial free operation doing so well.

The Soma stations can all be easily found on Internet radio apps like TuneIn Radio, but this Soma app is still a nice gateway to the Soma stations and community.
The only thing stopping me giving it 5 stars is the absence of a sleep timer. Hopefully this will be included in a future update.

I didn't think it was possible but Soma fm just got evan better with this latest app update! I use iPhone 4s and the connection is quick and stays connected to whichever of the stations available, and with more than 20 to choose its a great selection of rare and hard to find anywhere else on the net! Anyone who knows their music please give this app a download!!! Thank again everyone at Soma fm!!!

I've been listening to soma fm for years and only discovered this app. Didn't realise that the low bandwidth streams would work so well without wifi! I can get my favourite stations when I'm out and about in the city - perfect antidote to the stress and bustle!

Soma FM is probably the best radio broadcaster of it's kind on the web. There also extremely iPhone friendly. Whether you have this app or not Soma FM has went to great lengths to provide a full service for the iPhone. This App however adds a whole new dimension of music discovery with it's integration to the iTunes store allowing you to bookmark and purchase your favourite music.

I'm always looking for decent online radio, the problem with the majority is consistency. SomaFM is simply my favourite radio channel, multiple stations to listen to, the best quality sounds and they always deliver.
If your looking for relaxing, meditation, ambient, working (thats what I mainly use it for), underground/alternative music. Look no further.

I'm biased. I've had the pleasure of listening to the worlds best radio station for years and yes, I've got the T-shirt to prove it.
What you've got here isn't simply one station but a whole heap of them catering for most tastes and if not then I'd still recommend getting on board because you'll find something new that you will like.
All this and no ads! You'd be mad to leave this page without a purchase. Soma really does rock ( and is quite chilled and cool and...(find out for yourself)).

Have used the web based site for a while so an iPhone App is perfect. Great selection of themed feeds and tracks in them. No dreary babble, BS or ads just great intelligent music. Support these people even for a few £ as this is a special place.

Excellent choice of high quality streaming ambient and chillout music. App would be perfect if only they would add a 'sleep' function so it would close itself after a certain amount of time. Otherwise you fall asleep listening to the great tunes and wake to find your iPhone battery dead.

SomaFM is the best online radio on the internet in my book. I have been listening to it for years and enjoyed it on the iPhone 4 for the passed few weeks. This new version of the app allows background audio (you can get your Soma on wifi while multitasking). Whatever the vibe you choose, the programming and the quality are always terrific. If you don't know Soma, try streaming Groove Salad at work via iTunes radio or their at website and see faces light up and energy levels rise. If you want to seriously chill out back at home, lie down put your headphones on and let Drone Zone safely carry you to sleep. The app displays what is playing along with a history. If you appreciate quality, you'll be checking out artist and track names often. If you like commercial chart music, this won't be for you. The radio is run by a small but highly knowledgeable and passionate team that relies on voluntary donations to cover its costs. I recommended it wholeheartedly.
