I used to be able to cast Ch4 from my phone to the tv using ChromeCast, no problem. Now, I repeatedly get “an error occurred, re cast to try again.” Repeat ad infinitum. Re casting doesn’t work. There is nothing wrong with my ChromeCast because other channels cast absolutely fine. Come on, Channel 4. Sort it out.

It is a great platform but ads can be annoying as your wondering what is going to happen next as they’re usually placed during a cliff hanger.Also the breaks are not a consistent all the time so it would be better just to put into one big break so that it is not as annoying as you can actually do something like go to the toilet in that time as you usually don’t have time.However it has been really useful that we know how long the ads are going to be unlike other platforms.Although it would be great being able to have no ads without channel 4+ it is still a very useful to have that time so that you can predict what you can do in that time.The range of content that they do have is not as popular as I would of liked.But shows such as Hollyoaks has been entertaining but Dhillion and Lucas need to finally get together even though they will never listen.

Can easily log in via channel 4 website but every attempt to use the same details to log in via the app gets an “incorrect details” message. Have spent an hour changing passwords, rebooting tablet, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and the best I’ve managed to achieve is I’m now getting a “this content is not available in your area” message. Even trying to leave a review for this sub-standard app doesn’t work properly. Waste of time. And more ads than I thought possible.

I have been trying to watch the end of the replay of the Japan qualifying program, but it stops and refuses to carry on! I stopped and tried again later, and again, and again… Nothing doing!

For 2024 it is a very basic app. There is no way to adjust time during a live event - you can restart or watch live, but there is no bar to move across. It is clunky and there are far too many ads. I only use it when I have to, not because I want to, and their competitors offer much better apps. Channel 4, do better!

I only watch Ch4 via streaming on this app and the programme variety and quality is brilliant. However, EVERYtime I watch a series or film, after each advert break it reverts to the START of the programme!!! So viewer has to fast forward and also try remember where they were by counting advert white breaks on the bar or just turn off and stream elsewhere! It is utterly ridiculous and ruins the app! I don’t know if it’s a scam by developers to try get you to pay without ads, but it doesn’t work on me as half time just close down the app.

I watch on my iPad or Firefox stick on the TV and both versions of the app are so frustrating and clunky.
There seem to be more adverts than programme! Much longer adverts than other catch up apps, the adverts are much louder than the programme, there is even an advert when you pause so you can’t pause to read something on screen.
There doesn’t seem to be the option to restart a programme without manually rewinding it.
When watching on my iPad, there are frequent pop ups, usually one when I first open the app asking if I want to get a paid version and then again often one in the middle of a programme! I can only bring myself to use the app when I reallyyyy want to watch a specific programme, otherwise I avoid and use another.

4+ is a good app with a wide range of programmes in both its back catalogue, and current shows where you can watch a series before it has finished being shown on TV.
One major drawback is that it’s hard to binge watch because the app forces you to acknowledge every single warning message. That needs to be scrapped with a PIN. Don’t treat all customers like children if the majority of us are adults!
Subscription price is reasonable, however, companies need to realise that if every channel is charging for subscriptions, then people are less likely to feel inclined to pay again & again.

Doesn’t work with Apple Airplay. Devs uninterested in fixing.

Further Update. The developer replied to my previous review suggesting that I contact their customer support. I did this and was told this was a problem they were unaware of. They asked for a brief summary of the issues and took my email address. Months later the app is still the same (a frustrating mess when trying to use with Airplay, basically broken) and I’ve not heard anything from customer support.
Update - A year later and the app is still the same when using Airplay. If Airplay is to blame then perhaps say something? Trying to watch Taskmaster through this app is one of the most frustrating experiences. Technology is supposed to assist our lives not drive us mad. Please respond to this issue instead of burying your head in the sand. What a frustrating customer experience this app is when it is used with Apple Airplay. The issue is that the shows do not continue after the ads have played so you have to exit AirPlay and then join it again to make it play the episode. Sometimes this doesn’t work and I give up. This happens every time there are adverts. The other frustrating issue is that subtitles are on by default and they keep coming back on no matter what when you rejoin Airplay. If this was fixed, and the crashes also fixed, then this App will be reviewed again.

Recently added c4 ads to premium subscription

Opened the app today (NYD 2024) to discover they have added channel 4 programme pop up ads to the premium subscription. V disappointed - 20 second ads every 10-15 mins. I pay to avoid adverts, no other sub service has these pop up ads in the middle of shows (they might show one before the show or film starts) due to this the app has now been crashing here and there (watching taskmaster it crashed 3-4 times tonight in 3 episodes before or after an 'advert') A problem I never had prior to this. I don't want to watch stath let's flats thank you - if I did then I can browse and find it myself, I don't need recommendations in the middle of a show I'm watching as I'm paying £4 for the pleasure of no breaks within. Will unsubscribe once this month is up. Thanks C4!

I think it’s is a good idea that c4 has done by letting the nation know a bit about what is happening in are prisons and by allowing this we can all c and suggest are ideas to help them to stop reoffend. I think it would be a good idea for some people who may fit the criteria for reoffenders to be sent to prison in a another country like the e.u for example an maybe even leave them there for a better life. I think if some of these people seem different parts of the world I think that we would have more people in jobs and less crime and a better place to live it would sure be interesting to explore food for thought

C4 app often stops me watching C4 news

After Channel4 News has finished on C4 +1, it should be possible to watch it on catch up. however, the app often instead presents a video clip of Krishnan Gurumurthy saying “if you’re waiting for Channel4 News it will be along shortly“. Also if you’re looking through the list of films available to watch on demand and have changed the order in which you want to look at films from “most popular first “ to “most recent first”, if you select a film to look at the description and then go back to the list, the ordering gets sent back to “most recent first“. You then have to change the order in again and scroll all the way back down the list to look for further films.

I’ve been catching up on The Goldbergs, a show which has action going on whilst the credits roll, right up to the last second. I watch on mobile. The “watch more” pop-ups appear exactly 1 minute before the show ends, every single time. This means that on every occasion I have to try to get rid of it off my screen whilst the show is still in swing. It takes away from the enjoyment and flow of things. Please consider having it pop up once the credits are finished, or suggest just one show at a time and have it small at the bottom or corner of the screen (like most other streaming apps), not covering the entire screen like it currently does.
The second ‘issue’ is that there seems not to be an autoplay option when binge-watching series. So I have to manually play the next episode. Which wouldn’t be so annoying if I hadn’t had to fiddle around getting images of other shows off my screen whilst trying to watch my program.
I am one of the few who don’t mind the ads - your service is free and you can see how long the break will be by checking the bottom of the screen you you can make a cuppa or go to loo!

Really frustrating! I’ve used All 4 in the past and linked with chromecast but lately and with the new update I can be casting a one hour episode and find that it crashes within ten minutes and then sends me straight back to the start of the programme after an advert or two. By the time I’ve found where the programme crashed, I have to watch another two adverts and then can continue watching. Within another two minutes it crashes again and says there’s an error and then I’m back to the start of the programme again with another advert before it starts again. I’ve given up now. This doesn’t appear to be able to ‘project to the big screen’ like it states unless you have a spare four hours to watch a one hour episode of a programme. Frustrating. Maybe it’s my wifi, maybe it’s chromecast or maybe it’s the channel 4 app. They are all like enemies working against each other. There’s no telling what or who is at fault. Just a statement on the screen saying I need to recast and then no record of how much of the episode I have watched. Another two reviews to write as I frustratingly turn off my tv and feel I’ve wasted an evening of my life watching the first part of a programme several times. It isn’t just tonight this has happened. I did exactly the same last night and the night before. Should be called All 4 (hours wasted) but I’ve wasted more than that on this app.

Trying to watch an episode and there are 3.4 mins of ads what seems like every 7-10 mins you can’t get into the program. Taking into account there are 7 Lots in the episode there is 21+ additional minutes of wasted time because it is the same ads repeated each time. Shorten them so you have 1 minutes worth of adds not taking up a quarter of my viewing time with rubbish.
Only 26 4 or 5 star reviews in the past year out of a few hundred reviews. Enough said I think. Get a grip sort yourselves out because whoever apparently wrote your contracts for adverts was/is a moron to think people would be happy with it and accept it. Not to mention the idiot thought it would be a good idea to charge for “ad free” yet it’s not as free just a couple of less ads which brings it down to just a stupid amount instead of

I only use it on Apple TV. They did not mess with the video player UI, which if you used Now TV you know the pain, on downside the pause button on the remote doesn’t work but clicking the middle of the remote trackpad does so.. But they do not joke around, it’s ads after ads, so many ads, specially American programs which have so many ad breaks, if you just want to scrub through to the end of a show, you need to see the ads. And it has so many bugs, it’s impossible to scrub through a video, the video Ui just fades away, tapping the edges of the remote for quick 10s skip doesn’t work either. You start seeing a show say s01e01, it then sets the next one to a newer season like s03e02 On that note often doesn’t mark an episode as watched, you have to use the Apple TV app to do that instead, thank god for that integration as browsing a tv show in Apple TV app is more efficient Sometimes just image just goes black, you then have to go back in and you know see ads again Often at the end of a show the image gets smaller to show the next episode way before the show actually reached the end, you then have to maximise it again AND hit play But you know it’s free so..
One more thing: the ad breaks are constantly changing, sometimes they are 3 minutes, sometimes just 30s or even 15, so by time you get up to go the toilet it’s already over, I prefer consistency to be able to enjoy my breaks.

The app treats it’s paying customers poorly. You pay their subscription fee every month, and are STILL shown ads. This is daylight robbery. What is to prevent me from cancelling my monthly subscription, when both the paying and non-paying customers get the exact same user experience. All4 lie to the paying customers and claim that we are less ads as some shows have to be monetised, this is a complete lie. I’m yet to come across a single tv show that doesn’t force me to watch ads despite paying monthly like a fool. Suffice to say I’m be cancelling the subscription as I’ll be seeing the exact same amount of ads with or without a subscription.
Note to other customers: DO NOT buy their subscription as they falsely advertise that they will remove or reduce ads if you pay. This is a lie.

This is the most horrificly useless website this is why you don’t trust these dodgy and dated “channel 4” streaming sites. This isn’t the 19th century nobody knows what a channel is please sort out this redundant website. The only advantage is that I will never have to use it because it mainly has cheap, trashy and terrible sitcoms and soap operas which I would rip my scalp apart than watch. However when there is 1 rare and half watcheable program you will never be able to watch more than 15 mins of it before they try and trick you into watching 30 minutes of ads and use you as an add watching bot, as part of their monitisation scheme. You can’t watch your awful show because they are breeding for ad revenue and automating errors onto your screen. Will have to go and watch Netflix now. Hope this was informative.

For the past month (about the time version 10.6 was released) the home page hasn’t worked. I just get a wait cursor, instead of the helpful list of things I’m in the middle of watching, and information about other programmes that are currently on. The app has therefore lost a significant amount of functionality. I’ve reported the problem, but responses are slow to come, and tend to be standard answers that don’t relate to my actual problem.
As per other peoples’ reviews, the advert breaks often cause huge problems with the app, hanging, or sending you back to the beginning of the programme. I upgraded to All4+ to get around that problem - you don’t completely get rid of the programme breaks (unfortunately), but it definitely does help with the flaky app. It’s a bit much to pay £50 a year just so an app doesn’t freeze quite as much though! Especially since, at the moment, the app is barely usable

1. The listings used to be ordered by most recent added descending, but are now by most popular, and despite there being a drop down to change the sorting, no other options are available. So no easy way to spot new content.
2. Despite being logged in, the app often forgets what has already been watched in a whole series.
3. Despite being logged in sometimes the app does not notice you completely watched an episode, so sits as incomplete, and there is no way to change the status of an episode to watched.
4. Toggle to autoplay should be off by default, placed in settings and needs to remember the value the user set. none of tgese currently true.
5. Sometimes Restart Programme option is not available.
6. Randomly some episodes of some shows are not available on demand later, so if you missed it live, you will never ever see it eg news

All4 advertised it would add an episode weekly. All4 failed to advise the web browser won’t work and the app version won’t show one the shows episodes in its series list. Primal season 2, episode 7 is not available to watch on the App. It only shows in the show list on the website. I’ve tried edge, chrome and safari, the screen remains blank whenever I try to use any of the web browsers to view then content, when asked if I want to open it in the app the app sends me to the series page without the episode listed. There’s no other way to search for it in the app and no way to download it either. Please fix this issue for browsers and the app.

Ridiculous. How could they get the average of 4.5* rating when all i see down the list of reviews is 1,2 max 3*. Anyways maybe their calculator has run out of battery when the said low ratings were awarded. I’m hard of hearing and need this accessibility specially when they do claim it’s there. they want you to believe the s gives subtitles but no amount pressing the s on a program that claims subtitles exist can activate the elusive subtitles. Where is it? I’m using iPhone app. Tried watching mafs uk which has s shown but there’s none to write home about. Can this be fixes please?

I keep reading the stock response from Channel 4 about ads being their main source of funding, but considering everyone is complaining about the ads, maybe they should consider changing their funding structure in order to be able to provide ad-free viewing to their paying subscribers? Seems to work for Netflix.
The ratio of ads to programme (as a non-paying viewer) is about 80/20. It’s insane. I just second screen during the commercials but it doesn’t make for a very fluid viewing experience.
Would DEFINITELY consider getting a paid subscription to avoid the ads but from other reviews it sounds like getting a paid subscription doesn’t impact the amount of ads you get at all.

How is it helpful to have a streaming player with no play / pause / fwd / back controls?? I’ve been trying in vain to watch the F1 for the last two hours and have but have somehow only managed to see the same seven minute section of the programme four times. There’s no UI to let me fwd / skip so I sit through it only for the service to cut out during one of the many commercial breaks, only to have me start all over again. UX is poor and inconsistent across web, iOS app and Samsung TV (why you’d get rid of the live TV option on the actual TV app is a total mystery to me) and to top it all, the headline copy under the subsequent programme manages to give away what’s happened before I get a chance to see it. C4: you get one live race a year, you’d have thought you’d be better prepared! Honestly, the who ecosystem is a joke.

If you have no choice but to watch F1 highlights you first have to contend with their random schedules, and I mean so random even given the time shift post event.
They also don’t keep things for you to watch long enough. If you watch live you have to put up with low picture quality until it ‘settles’ and random adverts that sometimes repeat. If you wait and watch the recordings you can skip the bits you don’t want to watch.
Many a time All4 is just not available or vanishes then comes back.
This isn’t just me. At home on the Apple TV it does the same, it’s inconsistent quality, frequent instability if the server is under load, and then simple incompetence at C4 when they can’t be bothered to upload the latest episode when they say they have. It might be the UK’s biggest service but it’s also the least reliable.

I’ve personally not experienced any of the problems other customers have such as buffering or sound and no picture etc. However, the ads are beyond frustrating as they are 4 minutes long at a time and it feels like you watch more ads than the program itself. I understand the app runs through making money from ad exposure but 4 minutes is just way too long and you can’t skip them. I mainly watch things on platforms such as Netflix in order to get away from ads so this is quite annoying. I feel like if the ad time was less, and the ads themselves were short and snappy, the customer would have a better experience. Personally I end up playing on my phone when the ads come on.

of all the Tv channels, most things I want to watch are on 4. unfortunately this app is useless- out of sync audio and visual, sometimes no visual at all, the buffering is insane, ads load over the top of the programme. what prompted me to write this review was audio that would play for 3 seconds and then cut out and then play again. this is on iPhone which might be why, but it’s even worse on my fireTV stick thing, where it often just doesn’t load at all and when it does freezes on a menu screen and the whole stick has to be unplugged to free it up. then it does it again. sometimes all 4 just won’t open for weeks at a time. should focus more on having a functional app than trying to be edgy😖

I love All 4… I hate All 4 app and web app! All 4 has many of my very favourite programmes but trying to watch them feels like a lottery! I regularly find myself re-watching the same sections of programmes because the app has frozen and when I re-start it, it just repeats the same section I’ve just watched. So frustrating and disappointing! You can’t fast forward on the app so end up pressing play, going and doing something else for 20 minutes while the ads and same section of the program plays, then sit down to enjoy the part of the program I actually want to watch!
On the web app, if I want to just watch the last 10 mins of the F1 qualifying I have to play 15 minutes of ads (5x3 min breaks) before I can watch Q3. I get it, Channel 4 needs ads and I’m fine with that, but if the app would just function properly the programmes would be so much more enjoyable. Please sort it All 4!

It’s frustrating that the potential of a good app is ruined by the adverts they insist on including. When at the gym today I watched a show (an episode of which I was part way through watching) so I had to sit through 4 mins of ads, which is fine, then 30 seconds of broadcasting the show was then followed by another 4 mins of adverts then a few mins later still another 4 mins of adverts! In total I counted 12 mins of adverts during 18 mins of viewing! I get you need to pay for the service through advertising income but come on, this is ridiculous! Modern app technology should be able to determine how long you’re viewing for and space the adverts accordingly. I’ll be ditching All 4 in favour of other better platforms from now.

It streams perfectly fine until and ad break comes along. You watch 3.5 mins of ads, then it dies. You start it again, and have to watch another 3.5 mins of ads. If you’re lucky, you might then get to watch the next segment of the programme. Only to go through the same rigmarole when the next ad break comes along. Argh!!!
Update 2021. Still the same problem. Runs perfectly fine during the programme, then freezes during ad breaks. Presumably it doesn’t get to build a buffer during the ads in the same way as it does during the programmes, but it then gets stuck to the point that it won’t resume play without stopping and restating the programme, which then forces you to sit through the ad break again. It’s the same across all my devices. PLEASE fix this, it is ruining what is otherwise a perfectly good app.

I gave the All4+ trial a go so that we could watch the new season of Fargo without all the ad breaks.
Well, not only do they still show ad breaks including trailers for other programs, but they also show program sponsors which they call “commercial messages”. So if you’re hoping for a seamless viewing experience I wouldn’t bother, may as well just watch the non subscription based version and save some money.
On top of that, the quality of the image is dreadful, especially in darker scenes. There’s so much compression and pixelation going on it detracts from what you’re trying to watch. Comparing the same content on Netflix on the same TV, the difference is huge. Just a shame that this season of Fargo didn’t go straight to Netflix.

Every time I try to watch something via chromecast the programme plays fine but nearly every time ads come on the loading circle appears and then the ad stops and won’t start again, I have to cancel the casting and replay the program, having to watch the adverts again, sometimes it happens multiple times in a row and so I end up watching sooo many adverts it takes ages to watch one episode of a programme, I’ve taken to watching the ads on my phone then casting once the programme starts, but it’s ridiculous I shouldn’t have to do this; I saw a very similar complaint from 2 years ago..clearly still not sorted. I contacted customer support and they gave me some suggestions to help, they didn’t so I got back in touch and have heard nothing. It’s getting so frustrating every time I try to watch a programme

So like most I can’t stand to watch all these adverts so when I seen the ad free option I thought yeah great been paying now for a few months but definitely won’t be anymore at first I thought was just what I was watching that still had “for contracts reason still commercial messages” but as I have continued to pay and watch other programs I now see it’s 90% of the shows I’m watching that’s still have these!? So what am I paying for if you already have a contract with someone else that states you need to put adds?? Why offer add free if you can’t deliver what your offering

Yes, we get it. Channel 4 is paid for by ads. I remember when the channel first started. The content was amazing. Niche, arty, daring. But there are now so few programmes actually worth watching. And when you do watch them, you are blasted by a long unskippable set of the SAME ads each time.
If you want to really annoy your viewers, keep doing this Channel 4. Personally I value my time, and don’t want to see 10 mins of ads for a 20 minute show. At least on live TV you can switch channels or walk away. With this app you’re stuck with them. It makes it impossible to binge watch a few episodes of anything because I just WANT TO BANG MY HEAD AGAINST A WALL

Glitchy app, forever having to re-find my place when switching devices. The ads are AWFUL. I appreciate they have to make money but it’s the same ads over and over again throughout the same programme, when I tried ad free you still get Channel 4 ads several times THROUGHOUT the programme. A very dated way of managing a streaming service. As soon as I’ve finished “binge watching” Angel (as much as you can binge watch with non stop adverts) I won’t be watching anything else on All4 again.
In response to the developer’s response, the ads in the app are all Channel 4 ads? Not third party? But the simple thing is not to call it “ad free”, also, surely the app is raising revenue for you, so isn’t the point you omit apps with a charge instead? Not try and do both which is lose/lose for the viewer.

I pay a subscription (I will be stopping it!) but the adverts are still relentless. Often the ads are for the show I’m trying to watch. There is no need to have that many ads for channel 4 shows, Netflix and Prime seem to avoid having to do this. The fact that every episode starts with a voiceover telling me ‘for contractual reasons I will be shown ads’ is beyond irritating, I pay a subscription so I don’t have ads and I don’t want my viewing to be interrupted every 10 minutes with the same ads for the same shows. The smart TV app is very difficult to rewind/fast forward, you can’t skip the titles of each show and as for wanting to resume an episode you’ve already part watched, good luck with that.
The tv shows are good, but the developers have failed on this one, as have channel 4.

The range of shows available is great! I can deal with the adverts in order to support some of my favourite shows and actors. What I absolutely cannot stand is how shockingly bad the actual app itself is. Either on phone, tablet or PS4 the ability to zip forward through a show is unusable and often just doesn’t work. If you’ve watched GBBO the night before and have left a slice of it for yourself for the morning then don’t bother! You will have to watch the entire thing again as the ‘resume’ function is useless.
I beg of you - please fix it! I just want to be able to resume shows I’ve been watching previously and fast forward. Not a huge ask?

I’ve been using all4 for some time, particularly for the World Drama series (although the brilliant Mafiosa has disappeared:() and movies. I have recently upgraded to all4+ which is better value than BritBox and comparable to Netflix.
A few suggestions for the app. Can you flag the My4 programs already watched, preferably with date, add language both to the listing and also search options and after viewing the details of a program return to the same place in the My4 list rather than the top every time.

I installed the app on my iPad a while ago and all was well until about a month ago. Now, I am unable to download any standalone programmes, because the download icon is no longer displayed next to the programme (on the other hand, series are fine, a download icon appears next to each episode).
The funny thing is the same has happened sometime in the past fortnight on my wife’s iPad.
Another slightly annoying design flaw is the inability to sort programmes by anything other than ‘popularity’. It would be very useful to be able to sort by expiry date for example.

Unfortunately whenever you search for a program it does not find it/allow you to watch it. For example I was looking at the online page at a program, it asks you to watch it in the app, you then click okay go through the hassle of downloading the app, then your required to sign up of course... so after going through all that it then doesn’t load the video you where trying to watch! So I thought okay I will just search for it, nothing... alright so I will go back online and click watch in app on the video again (seeing as it doesn’t give you any other blooming option) and nope takes me to a different episode or sometimes just whatever is playing on live tv... all this hassle to watch one episode and I didn’t even get to watch it :/ blagh the web page also keeps redirecting me to the app store instead of the app sometimes too! Everywhere but what I’m trying to watch ...

It’s fine I like channel 4, good shows. However, there’s so many adverts like 4 x 2 mins advert breaks per half hour show so you end up watching 8.5 minutes of ads sometimes per half hour, which is completely disproportionate and makes you want to stop watching. I’m sure there aren’t this many if you just watch it regularly on telly. Just cutting down advert intervals to 2 instead of 4 would help you could deal with it more. I literally could go out and have a two minute snack or make a hot drink about 4 times during the course of half an hour as it’s not like I tune in to watch the adverts. I usually watch one programme and it only motivates me to switch it off.

Can’t watch via projector from hdmi iPhone app :-(

We don’t have a tv so connect iPhone or iPad to projector via hdmi and use different channel apps to watch tv programs. As of this week, suddenly I’m not able to use this app for the projector on the iPhone anymore!? We’d used it the previous night to watch first dates then went to watch another first dates episode the next night and it wouldn’t work. A message pops up on the phone saying the programme can’t be shown on two screens!? Anybody else within the last week gone from being able to watch programs to not?? It must be an update in the app which has disabled the feature- a real step backwards! Can this be fixed please tech people?? The iPad still plays via the 4 app through the projector there it’s an old app and I’m reluctant to let it update otherwise we’ll loose the ability to watch 4 programmes via the projector altogether. Really disappointed. Please fix :-(

If you have missed your favourite show on channel 4 (or E4) or even binge watch a whole box set of tv shows available!. There are channel 4 movies , t shows, everything that you would watch on your normal free view channel.

What can I say about this app?
It insists on returning to the start of the program after every interminable, unskippable advert break.
It doesn’t keep the iPad awake, so if you’re Airplaying to another device, you have to adjust the iPad’s settings, or else tap the thing regularly.
Sometimes it also returns to the start of the program, but doesn’t play anything. You have to quit, reopen, then navigate back to where you were, and start again. If you’re lucky, it’ll finally pick up where you left off.
This evening we were not so lucky. Just trying to watch The Dog House; a good, wholesome family show was like pulling teeth. We’ve now sat through 20 minutes of the same ad breaks over and over again, because after each app-relaunch, we have to sit through 4 minutes of ads to see if we’ll then finally be able to watch the show.
This is, by far, the worst app I’ve used on iOS. Not streaming app, not catch-up app, app. In general. I’ve had a better experience from apps that simply crash on start-up and do nothing. At least they don’t lull you into a false sense of security that MAYBE you’ll get what you’re promised.

Just tried to watch two half hour episodes of a C4 comedy show. Incredibly annoying experience. Every 5-10 minutes the programme just stopped playing and I had to press play to start it again. Totally random. Then, during every set of adverts, it just froze. When I restarted it I had to watch ALL of the adverts again. This happened twice on one set of adverts so I had to watch the same four minute set of adverts three times. 12 minutes of adverts in a half hour programme. It actually took me 45 minutes to watch a half hour programme. So, second episode, I downloaded it, thinking that would solve the problem. It didn’t! Exactly the same, programme just stopped randomly and the adverts froze and had to be watched twice. Awful app.

Why are you always forcing us to update the app?

It seems almost every time I open this app I am forced to update it. Why? Why can't your developers get it right? Test it before deploying it!
Now having been forced to update again because your streaming service requires it, it seems I am unable to! I am pushed to the App Store, and in the App Store I only have the option to open the app rather than update. So I press open and the all 4 app forces me back to the App Store to update it... So I go around in a loop!
I now realise it's because my iPad is a first gen retina in perfect condition but its iOS only goes to 9.3.5 and won't update any further. The all 4 app requires at least iOS 10.3. All the other streaming services work fine, so why can't yours, channel 4?
It's a real shame that the past user experience of this app and now your arrogance to assume that users will unnecessarily pay hundreds of pounds for a new device when their old one is fine overshadows what is one of the best libraries available. Please get it right!
I obviously won't be using this app again meaning I won't be seeing the adverts you're charging your advertisers for. I wonder how many viewers will they be missing out on?

Channel4, I beg you to fix (if it’s a bug) or change the functionality that means I have to be connected to the internet to watch shows I’ve already downloaded(?!) Its absurd and defeats the point entirely of downloading content.
Frequently I get on the tube with no signal and sit down to start my show, only to be told when pressing play, that I’m not connected to the internet and to ‘cancel’ or ‘retry’. It’s then a race against time to connect to the underground WiFi at the next stop in time to hit the play button, before the train pulls away from the station. It’s doing me a madness!
The app is also incredibly unresponsive, having to hit the play button 4 or 5 times before it actually registers and starts to do something.
Also the ads. The endless ads! With it being a free app, I expect to see some - you’ve gotta make money somehow, right? But why are they so long?! Each add break is between 3.5 and 4 minutes - which seems excessive when compared with other similar apps. If you can’t reduce the length, please at least mix them up so I’m not seeing the same thing over and over again. This doesn’t make me want to buy these things, it has the opposite affect in fact!
On a plus side, the shows are fantastic! It just needs to be easier to watch them.

Today my thoughts have not changed and unfortunately nor has the app. It still does not release storage and it now crashes a lot when you want to restart a show part way through after previous partial viewing
March 2017 - Currently this app is using up 2gb of space whilst I have zero downloaded shows. The app itself is 40mb so why am is the app holding onto this space once the files have gone. In fact the shows I did want to watch offline never even completed their download after days of online usage. Poor app. Best to watch another tv channel!

Probably about 80% of the shows I watch tend to be on 4(All4) and I’ve always been a big fan of the show content they’ve aired. Unfortunately when it comes to actually catching up or re-watch past shows, it’s impossible to do because their catch up player is and has always been atrocious despite how many times they update it. By far the worst catch up site I terms of playability and this is coming from someone who hates ITV with a passion. Most of the time it is unbearable to watch something, especially on the app. Because of the great stuff they have I show I hope they manage to improve everything, but for now I’d find anywhere else that you can watch your show on instead

I can understand that channel 4 generate a huge amount of revenue through advertising but this is a bloody joke. 3mins of advertising every 15minute and don’t dare pause on the advert or just after because guess what if you do once you resume another 3 whole mins of adverts ffs. You need to work out a way to run the adverts alongside the programs or simply put a functioning time bar on so people can skip the ads if they want to. Until then it’s back to sky plus for me at least there I don’t have adverts on products I’m not interested in forced upon me.

I love the fact you can download programs and if you are watching more than one episode, it just starts the second one automatically.
What is really really really starting to annoy me is the fact that when there are new episodes or new series they are not coming up on the home page or even the my4 page. I missed almost an entire series of something because it didn't come up and I accidentally clicked on the series in 'my list' and saw that the series had been on for weeks. Please update the app so it puts new episodes of programmes that are in my list on the homepage like it used to do. Otherwise I have to keep checking every single program on my list every time I open the app to check.

Channel Four has by far the best shows on TV in the UK. This is also the only decent catch up service that gives you access to box sets of shows, old and new.
I.e. every episode of every series. But the app and web app have for years been awful! I have used the web site for years and it is by far the worst catch up service technically! Regardless of what device, browser or version of the app you are using. So frustrating. The Ads play great, the shows themselves struggle with so many technical problems. Don't touch any button if you want to see the end of the show. Just let it play, even if it does crawl it’s way through. Really surprised that Channel Four haven’t ever sorted this out. You have to raise some serious questions about who at the organisation thinks that this is an ok, let alone a good streaming platform.

I have used this app off and on for years. We only stream programmes through a number of services through our PlayStation and this app stopped working on the PlayStation altogether meaning we can only watch on a tablet (none of the other apps have had this problem). This has been the case for a couple of years without a fix despite updates and redownload, which is ridiculous!!!
Even on the iPad, the app crashes constantly. I have tried to download content with mixed success, most of the time this crashes my iPad forcing a hard restart.
The number of adverts is disturbing, but conveniently the adverts seem to run fine and the actual content causes issues.
I do enjoy C4 content so I always try again, but mostly turn to other streaming apps that provide a much better user experience.

I’ve been using this app successfully for years, and it was a great way for me to catch up on F1, however suddenly it has stopped working. I’m using the same hardware and the same software, both on my iPad mini and Smart TV, but both refuse to work.
I’ve looked online for various solutions but non have worked, only to discover that suddenly, on further investigation, trying the Channel Four website, that it requests the use of Flash in order to work(???). Now the only way to watch content is to DOWNLOAD the episode/programme and play it on your device.
Why is this happening? Clearly C4 has no respect for its customers and have irresponsibility reprogrammed the app AND the website without proper testing. Or has used someone who clearly doesn’t know what they’re doing.
C4 has the ability to respond to the complaints ON THIS PLATFORM, but have chosen not to. The number of complaints, all saying the same thing, should not be ignored but should be addressed.
And to the complainant who gets 75 mbps, I’m on 200 mbps and usually get 130 mbps but still the problem persists. It is clear that the problem and possibly solution rests solely with Channel Four.
Shame on you Channel Four! Shame on you!

Worst of the catchup apps by far

This is by far the worst catchup app I've used, the only thing that works without fault are the myriad of ads at the start of each episode. It all starts out well and starts to play almost immediately after selection and plays through the ads faultlessly. However, as soon as the ads finish it mysteriously crashes with a message saying the episode is not available right now. Only thing you can then do is go back and start it again and guess what?? Yep the ads play again perfectly till the end and the program crashes once again. It sometimes does this 10 or 15 minutes into an episode but on restarting it you have to endure the ads again. Also a lot of series have many episodes missing such as kitchen nightmares for an example, probably a third of them are just not there, pretty useless really.
All in all just not worth bothering with at all.

The. Worst. App. Ever. So many problems and bugs: plays audio but not picture, plays picture but not audio, drops out or crashes at the adverts, gets stuck on the adverts, buffers for ages despite excellent net connection and on and on and on....
The only decent bug is the one that just fails to play the ad breaks, so that on the rare occasions it does play a show smoothly, you can do so without having to look at some toothpaste and a car every ten minutes.
Compared to other channel's players this is a joke. You'll download it cos at some point you'll want to catch up on a show, but trust me it will have you punching the nearest wall within seconds of using it. Shame, because there's a great library of shows from across the history of the channel to view, if you can get them to play without interruption.
