Sky trying to coin in a bit more and now compromising their service to customers.

I use this app mainly from my iPad to find out what is on Sky and on TV. I can set up recordings on my Sky Q box. Good. The screen shot for the app shows a tab called “Recordings” on the bar at the bottom. This is missing in my app. It appears that this tab is available only if you subscribe to the Multiscreen option. Why? I can see what I have recorded only from my TV, not from my iPad app. Please add the Recordings tab to the app for all users.

Very disappointed - could do much better!

Version 23.9
This app:
- doesn’t list BBC programmes.
- doesn’t scroll smoothly from one day to the next.
- doesn’t list programmes you’ve downloaded.
Sky used to have an app which did all these things - Sky+ app - but it’s now abandon-ware! Maybe the mangers who commissioned this app never sat down and used it?

Version 23.9
Sky Go fine for downloading on to your IPad , but rubbish controlling the Sky Q box you can’t see your recorded programmes or the schedules, you should bring back the Sky + app and rename it Sky Q. Also the Sky Q boxes don’t like second party routers, it’s almost impossible to connect to Wi-Fi because the box prefers connecting on 2.5 gHz and not the proper 5 gHz band. Sky have done all they can to make it match up with there Sky internet hub. Please stop copying Netflix and bring back Sky + I have been with Sky when Sky One was airing Lost in space and the police show Bad Boys, when my contract ends I will not be renewing my contract if you don’t have an app that works the Sky Q box correctly.

Version 23.9
SKY GO is great when it works but very frustrating when it throws you out from the live programme and or the recorded programme. Shows different error messages and they don’t help. Says internet is not available but phone and laptop is working with the internet. It’s.not a reliable site; more or less every week there is an issue, combination of removing the app switching off the IPad and or waiting at least 30 minutes to get through on the phone to a Sky technician, get put through around 3 to 4 different technicians so they can run through various things to get it going, and even then it doesn’t work and have wasted an hour if not more of my time. Currently not able to watch recorded programs on the app, exhausted all the ways to solve issue, waiting on call from SKY, don’t think they will ring back. It’s a shame that SKY can’t sort issues out.

Worst tv app out there

Version 23.9
Continue watching - even if you only watch a show for 2 minutes it’s stuck there with no way to delete. And the workaround to go to the last episode and fast forward to the end doesn’t work. Shows disappear one minute and random earlier episodes will then appear. I’m at the end of my tether. Take advice from Netflix, channel 4, bbc and make continue watching useful and functional.
Also of note is that you have to know the exact title of the show. You can’t search genre using the search function and if the show you search for isn’t available it does not offer similar programmes.
If you can find the show you want it will play fine.

Poor without Multiscreen

Version 23.9
Returned Sky mini box as never used and cancelled Multiscreen. However, I didn’t realise in order to see what you have recorded and manage your SkyQ box recordings you have to have Multiscreen. Without it will not connect to your SkyQ box and you cannot see your favourites channels in the app. Starting to think I’ll give Sky a swerve after 8yrs. Not worth £15 a month just to see your scheduled recording and manage the box from the app. nb I’ve never watch anything on the iPad via the app so not sure why they don’t allow all the functionality but block watching.

2023-11-05
This app is designed to replace the Sky+ app but represents a serious loss of functionality: 1. No catch-up so you can’t record or download a programme shown before “today”. 2. Cannot set favourites. 3. Cannot see what programmes you have recorded on your Sky box. 4. Cannot see what programmes you have downloaded to your Sky box. 5. Cannot see what programmes you have scheduled to be recorded. 6. Cannot see what programmes you have scheduled for downloading. 7. Cannot delete a recording. 8. Cannot delete a download. Altogether Sky is doing its customers a major disservice with this app. The Sky+ app should be reinstated at least until this app is upgraded. Disgraceful.
Shame that Sky doesn’t even acknowledge its lack of customer care. Fraud anyone?

2023-10-22
In the TV guide on the app, if you want to record a non Sky HD channel like BBC1 HD or ITV1 HD you have to scroll down to the 800 channels to find the relevant HD channel. If you try and remote record say BBC1 on 101 or ITV1 on 103, it records the SD channel. I’ve been in contact with Sky without any help. All they say is reinstall the app, which I have, but didn’t fix it. Pretty rubbish really.

The most recent update stops it crashing all the time so I can actually use it.
Scrolling the tv guide doesn’t make me sick anymore, they must have hired some people that can actually develop for apple devices, well done.
Still though at say 11 pm if I want to see what is on after 12 I have to change the day and then scroll back all the way to the left, where the still far superior old sky app just lets to keep scrolling to the next day.
Changing stars from 1 to 2, gradually getting there. In 3 years time they might getting it to the same level the old app was 6 years ago.
Progress eh!
Should be renamed. Also gets the award for the only app I have ever seen on the iPad that can't scroll smoothly, how do they even manage that! Edit: So now I am forced to use this total piece of rubbish as they have got rid of the Sky Q app which was quite bad but nowhere near the level of uselessness of this app. I have no idea how this app has such a high rating, it's total rubish.

Now a very good app

Been using this app for years and find it very easy to use, have to be aware of rules and policies for licences, travel etc which is what half the complaints are about.
My only issue is that I watch this app on my phone and iPad and two tvs, and it has stopped being intuitive between devices. Watching the wire, showing that I’ve watched an episode that I haven’t actually watched so I have to remember exactly where I am up to when I stop watching.
Everything else brilliant, esp sky Atlantic.

Turned my phone around app crashed and to open the movie again and try to watch it from where I left it off I had to watch 5 minutes worth of bloody adverts!!! It doesn't track how many ads you watched as other apps do so it lets you off like Channel 4 or ITV apps, if you want to rewatch something or skip ahead and then back, nope you have to rewatch ALL the adverts. Utter crap. This is why I do not watch live TV anymore. This is why I avoid Sky. Netflix is much more generous. You pay the subscription you watch the content, no greedy ads. I am 54 my life is too short to a bit of movie between a long line of ads for products and services I will never use, I have never ever purchased anything because I saw it in a TV ad. I always research it on Google or use recommendations by humans. I already pay a monthly Sky subscription. The least you can do is to let me binge watch some content and go back and forth in a programme without having to rewatch every ad every single time. I have two phones. While the ads run I turn the sound down on SkyGO and play games on my other one so I don’t even have to know what adverts you cram in. Greedy does not begin to describe Sky. I rarely use it. I subscribe to Discovery +, no adverts, I subscribe to ITV no ads, I subscribe to Netflix no ads. If they can afford not to treat us like idiots and ruin the viewing experience so can you. But Sky is too greedy for that.

Virtual Remote finally added TY

A long since missed function of Sky+ the Virtual Remote Control. A virtual remote has been added to Sky Go this is a huge accessibility gain for SkyQ no more having to use insecure third party apps with adverts! Great for those with boxes out of the way too. One ask please add it to as an option to the main screen or better still a stand alone app or iOS widget! A BIG THANKYOU I’ve waged long for this! Oh also bring back reminders with auto channel change for us less able customers they were a god send. Many people now just watch one channel until a carer comes to change channel this will help but reminders will fix it!

Mostly a good app, but annoyances.

Overall I think this is a really good app and pretty well-thought out, but the Interface is quite old and needs updating.
Scrolling along in the ‘TV Guide’ can become extremely slow and laggy, even on my iPad Pro. It makes it very difficult when trying to look ahead and/or find things to watch.
The fact you can’t Record things to your Sky Box in Ultra HD is just ridiculous? Why can’t you? I get you can’t watch Ultra HD versions of stuff, but it seems an oversight that you can’t record things. In theory they are the same as any other channel/programme, so no real reason why you can’t.
The Search function is pretty poor and very limited - why not make it a free text search? Instead, you have to type exactly the name of the programme you’re looking for - no good for browsing/finding something. Everything comes up in a small text list, which makes it a hard/poor way of viewing results. Lots of ways to improve the Search Function.
Another big bugbear is the ‘Watch on device’ function, which when watching Live TV doesn’t allow you to rewing/go back/forward more than about 20 seconds. No matter how many times you press the ‘back 10s’ or try using the scroller at the bottom of the screen, it just won’t do. If I’ve been watching for 30+ minutes, why can’t I go back 5 minutes?

Accessibility and usability improvements

I’d like to see a couple of accessibility and usability, improvements with the VoiceOver screen reader.
One. The on the home screen, having a formatted heading for each section for easier navigation.
Two. On the home screen, having the item name read before the number of the item and how many items are in a list would make navigation quicker.
Three. On the TV Guide, being able to do a three finger swipe left or right to move between days of the week and channels would make navigation, quicker and easier.

Version 22.10.1
Having paid a high monthly subscription for most sky packagaes I found SkyGo good. Now it keeps advising that I have not subscribed to packs that I have or that I have too many devices attached. Its pathetic trying to find out what the error messages mean or someone to fault find for you. A Sky has lots of competition and is no where near as important as it was I am sure they will attend to my problems when subscription renewal is due as I have lots of packs plus telephone and broadband which makes their lack of service even more annoying. Because of their tardy and relatively arrogant attitude in an ever more competitive market I may not renew for the first time as I am very aggrieved by lack of SkyGo. I also find better offers for my communication requirements too. SkyGo when it works is good - but mostly it does not work for me now and it is tedious and tiresome to have to keep reloading the App. Poor SkyGo service has soured my relationship with Sky overall and will result in loss of business to them from me.

App can’t find by sky q box

2022-10-21
Despite numerous phone calls and a couple of engineers visits, the sky go app seems unable to find my sky q box. That means I can’t record or download programmes. Sky are aware that this problem affects a number of sky customers but they don’t seem bothered about sorting the issue. I have asked the technical department to contact me (you can’t speak to them directly apparently) and that was over a year ago. Nobody has bothered to get in touch - that’s poor customer service sky. I should at least be offered a reduction in my subscription as I don’t get the full product that other customers enjoy. PS. The app finds my daughter’s sky q box when we visit her house. But, again, after a few minutes, the connection drops. My daughter has Sky broadband, so the app is unreliable, not even working with your own broadband signal. So there’s a problem with sky q boxes “hiding” themselves from the app.

Poor App - seems to be focused on getting you to watch Adverts

The Sky Go App seems to be running behind the times with user functionality. I say this because for the last 90 minutes I have been going through my ‘Continue Watching’ section. Unlike other apps in the same category it is impossible to remove a program on that list. You need to start watching it again (watch the adverts) and then fast forward it to the end and watch the adverts again. Then it automatically brings up the next episode in the series and you have to start the process again. Just to get to the episode you haven’t yet seen.
I often use the app while cooking or doing tasks and then watch the end of the program on the television - but the app remembers where I am and keeps it in my list with no option available to remove it, click watched, move to next episode, etc. This makes it clunky and not user friendly and puts me off using it where possible, moving to other apps instead.
Very frustrated, what a waste of time and just leaves a negative feeling towards the app and Sky - perhaps this is an update that needs to go to the top of the list.

Is the worst performing sports streaming app there is. Feels like other apps did when streaming first became a thing. Other apps have evolved though and the sky app just hasn’t. Bt sport destroys this app and it’s embarrassing. Low resolution streaming and Not letting us cast is utterly ridiculous. Sometimes we can’t get on the sky box so why do we have to watch on a tiny screen. Awful. When it comes to watching box sets things get worse. Apart from the constant forced ads, (this alone makes me go and watch other streaming sites, even the dodgy ones as they have less ads and a much better resolution) the UI is painful, it crashes a lot and then you have to go back to the start, watch the same 4 ads you’ve already watched 4 times per episode, so you can use the janky fast forward to get to the next set of the same 4 ads you just watched, rinse and repeat till you finally get to where you were. Wanna binge watch a few episodes? Get ready to watch those same few ads 4 times each per episode. Annoying song in those ads. Don’t worry that annoying song will be stuck in your head and you’ll develop a hatred for the product they’re trying to advertise. Worst streaming app ever by a long way. Years later and it’s still the same low res trash. The worst streaming platform in existence.
Few years late. Still miles behind every other streaming app. Low res garbage.

The app is excellent and does pretty much everything you would expect in a really slick way. The app is fast and well designed. I’d probably give it 5 stars if it had the ability to cast to a Chromecast.
I don’t have a Sky box in every room and I would like to be able to cast Sky to those TVs and to TVs in hotel rooms which increasingly have Chromecast built in allowing every guest to resume their normal viewing as if they were at home. I understand the Sky Go app in Australia and New Zealand has this feature as does the sister NOW TV app, so it’s not like the functionality isn’t possible.
Sky UK has taken the decision not to add Chromecast presumably as they want customers who want this functionality to take up NOW TV subscriptions. This is a real shame for customers and a rare example of Sky choosing not to offer the absolute best customer experience that they can.
Hope to see it added in the future and I can give the app 5/5.

The new Apple TV. Version of the app has been a long time coming, and I’m glad it’s finally here. There are some things that needed to be resolved though.
• The ability to connect to your Sky Q box for available recordings like in the iOS version
• 4K support, the AppleTV 4K can play 4K content - it’s in the name, but the apps content appears to be only available in HD.
• Access to the TV Guide is great but the performance is terrible, I have the latest AppleTV 4K which is a monster in terms of performance so there is no reason not to make the TV guide a native experience, rather than this badly sluggish web view.
Fix these issues and you will be into a winner.

This app is so temperamental that I’m just going to uninstall it and not bother trying anymore.
The functionality to watch my sky recordings either disappears completely or will just not allow me to connect with my sky box to access the recordings if the option is showing. There’s no functionality to self troubleshoot issues on the app, just to send an email as ‘feedback’ or to ‘report an issue’ which gets no reply anyway.
I can download problems, but for an hours programme you HAVE to endure about 20/25 mins worth of adverts as a whole which I just don’t enjoy.
On the odd rare occasion it works after uninstalling and reinstalling the app multiple times or restarting my iPad/sky box multiple times, when it does work I am shocked and surprised but it works OK on this rare occasion.

Useless, try to watch live sport on this useless app (after paying a hefty monthly charge for sky at home) and it will leave you missing important moments as it freezes, then you have to quit the thing and restart it. The only decent thing is the channel guide but good luck if you then try and watch something. Come on Sky, stop using the cheapest useless app creators and get something written that you can be proud of and give your over charged subscribers something that they can rely on when away from home, and yes I am using it on a decent WiFi connection with good speed! And please don’t patronise me by saying thanks for your comment and we are continuously updating the app because all it ever seems to be is updated to a newer higher level of utter you know what.

I do not often write App Store reviews. However this app is so broken and such a rip off that I felt I had to at least make it known somewhere. I use this app for one purpose, to watch live TV when I otherwise cannot watch it on TV. Firstly, the level of ads I get from this app is unacceptable. In the era of streaming, to have ads at all is a problem. But to have ads before being able to watch live TV with ads already in is despicable. As someone who already pays £90 for a Sky subscription, and a further £10 so I can have the device slots for my family makes me want to vomit. I primarily watch F1. And to see people all over the world get a superior service, for a tenth of the price drives me up the wall.
Apart from the ads, this app functions only after performing some kind of ritual to the gods of corporate TV. I have to restart my phone multiple times to even be able to get the stream up. At first I thought it was a VPN issue, which although I disagree with, I can at least understand. So I turn it off. But still it doesn’t work. Sometimes I have to restart my phone 3-4 times before the app deems my effort worthy to give me the content I pay for.
Overall, disgusting user experience, abhorrent pricing, and repulsive levels of ads. As soon as I figure out how to get F1TV working, Sky will have lost my £100 a month.

Have given 5 stars as is a brilliant service, however I work remotely so need a WiFi connection on most occasions when I use sky go for my iPad. Can be frustrating when it doesn’t connect even though I have a strong WiFi signal (I've missed key moments on live sport when it doesn’t connect). It’s my only gripe, but like I say it is a brilliant concept & when it functions properly is very satisfying and makes an enjoyable watch..

After a long time of being a fairly mediocre app after they ditched the dedicated SkyQ app, the app has recently improved significantly. I guess the lockdown and having Sky employees likely using the app more personally focussed people on fixing some it’s problems.
The only thing stopping this being a 5 star app now is the fact it still doesn’t have an AppleTV version of the app. In my kids rooms I’d rather give them an AppleTV than a SkyQ box, as I can then use Screen-time and other Apple parental controls to limit when it can be used.
Finally, the app (and SkyQ itself) needs better parental controls so that the content it can play back can be limited. A really good function would a full channel block/unblock list so we can specify exactly which channels are allowed.

It has a good excess of movies and tv shows and the quality of the tv shows Sky makes is very well done… However, there is just too many unskippable ads in the service. You can be sat watching an advert for two minutes straight, no streaming service to my knowledge does this. I thing the best thing to do is make them at least skippable past, at most, the 10 second mark. Also, don’t put these unskippable adverts during the showing of a movie or series, cut the adverts on that front entirely. Another thing is it has very poor subtitles or a lack entirely. There is either no subtitles or the subtitles do not copy what is being said at all since it some how is delayed Another thing is there is no TV guide so you can’t record or remind anything up coming I think that it can be a great streaming service but the problem is it has too many issues

Terrible Search Functionality. Limited interface filtering. Doesn’t connect to Sky Q

I have found this app (much like Sky Q in its entirety) to be entirely frustrating. The search functionality is very poor. Attempting to find the latest F1 race for example is a painful experience. 2020 and older races are all bunched with this years races in the (convoluted to get to) catch up section, and searching using search box just doesn’t work, the whole thing is a complete mess. Download to ipad is often not given as an option either. Connection to the Sky Q box is woeful and generally doesn’t work. Execution is poor, this could be much better given the cost of Sky TV. On a side note, the Sky Q Boxes are always failing too, which may explain the app connectivity failures. The app and the underlying Q hardware needs to severely improve, before everyone jumps ship to on demand direct on smart tv’s.

Considering sky is such a huge corporation you would think someone would be able to create an app that rivals others. On a device it’s infuriating to use and I almost always give up and go and find something to watch on Netflix or Prime. If you leave the opened app for a second it reverts back to the homepage where you have to go and search for what you were watching, which means typing exactly letter for letter into the search bar or it will say not found, then often find the right timeframe to start again. There’s no subtitles for anything and given the sound on so many shows nowadays is poor it makes it impossible to understand. I’m not able to sit in front of the tv a lot so using my extortionate sky package on a device was really important but it seems I’m paying for nothing really.

Would have liked a favourite list. I use the app for very few programs and always struggle to find them and end up having to do a search. Would be good if you could just have a list of your top 10 programs. ( or shortcut ) especially for the news.
Also really annoying that when the ads are on the program jumps to the end and you have to try and restart and have to see more ads and then it jumps to the end again. So you give up and come back an other day and then it will not load and tells you that you have already seen the program and when you try to fast forward to the place you got to it plays several sections of ads again.
This app could be so much more, but it is not!

To think that use of this app is part of a wider £100+ subscription to sky is absolutely mind boggling it is light years behind Netflix,Amazon prime and I’m sure most other streaming services.
If you come off the app whilst streaming from the on demand, for anything longer than milliseconds then return to the app, you have to search and find what you were watching for again, then have to watch at least two fourty second adverts and then the app convinces itself you probably finished that episode and so starts to show the next one.
For a company as rich as Sky with as many products and subscribers as they do it doesn’t make sense how this app can be allowed to be so basic and outdated, clunky to use and generally dissatisfying. Or is it more that a company as big and rich as Sky can get away with a bog standard app happy reaping their money elsewhere whilst providing a substandard app knowing its inferiority will never dent its vast earnings

I’m a very new customer (my box isn’t even installed yet) moving from Virgin Media, and my very first impressions of this app are great. Its so much more ‘free’ content than is offered to customer my VM (you have to pay extra for EVERY movie, series programme etc you want to watch with them), and my bill is £42 per month cheaper.
However, some things are missing/wrong with the app.
-I don’t mind ads, but making them skippable is a MUST, especially being as people are already paying a subscription fee for this stuff!
- Enable AirPlay / casting so that people aren’t hunched over a tiny screen to watch their films/programmes.
- Make a SkyGo app for Apple TV! It would be so much more convenient.
- Add a ‘Watch List’ feature so customers can queue up everything they want to watch rather than having to search through the whole catalogue of content to find what they want.
- Some sort of cool trivia feature. Maybe like an IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes rating that accompanies each film?

After a few glitches getting the app to connect to my Sky Q box, the app is now working well and is great to use around the house in rooms without a tv. I have dropped a star because of my only real gripe - that the TV guide doesn’t allow access to my favourite channels and it can be tiresome wading through all channels to get to ones I want to see. If the app is clever enough to access and view the recordings on my Sky Q box, then surely it would be possible to access my favourite channels? Having Googled this issue to see if there was a way of doing this, I found a forum with lots of others making the same compliant........

There is a lot missing from this app that all the other popular streaming services have, I know it’s only secondary to the box, but I rarely watch stuff on the TV and use this mostly as I travel a lot!
Not only does it need to be more inline with other streaming services, but it would be great to have some extra features the others don’t, one thing it definitely needs is a stream for series you have been watching, so you can see at a glance when you log on when there’s a new episode of a show you’ve been watching.

I was in the middle of watching The Wire season 1. Had been watching for a couple of days then came out of Sky Go on my ipad to do something else, then when I went back into it the episode I was watching and the whole of the rest of the season was gone. Disappeared not to be found anywhere! I tried to call it up on my actual tv and its disappeared from there too. I know its an old series, but if you’re going to pull it because its not current at least have the courtesy to let your viewers now you are going to do that so they get a window of time in which to watch it. Outrageous! And dishonest! Been a customer for 20 odd years and I think that’s the height of contempt and lack of respect for your customers

Although I am a sky member, I find it disappointing that sky has not made any huge in roads on the app functions and flexibility compared to the rivals like bt and virgin. It’s so frustrating it makes want to switch providers.
Take for instance live matches. BT allows you interact with the app while watching live sport. With sky you have to completely come of the live stream, miss you live feed, to access interactive features. 😡
BT and virgin allows you to switch sport live while watching another and also get live result from other matches while you watching a live sport. As a customer you feel that you not missing out in any action, but with this sky app you stuck in some old fashion app that needs to play catch up, while feeling disappointed as a customer you miss out in the action.

Like others my Sky Go was working perfectly until the upgrade and as I have iPad 1 I preferam no longer able to get it. It is so disappointing. ITV did the same last year but at least they apologised and advised me that they would I get a fix out and within a few weeks sent me an email to say it was back working again. It seems to me that it is Sky that needs to organise the fix not Apple and perhaps a refund for those of us that can no longer get Sky Go.

For a company as large as Sky to have such a basic app for actually watching tv on the go is quite poor. My main annoyance is not having the ability to create my own “watch list” or something similar. Having to type and search each time to find more episodes to download is tedious, even the management side could be improved..mention if I’ve watched that episode before or even a viewed symbol or something rather than me having to skip through the download to see if I’ve actually seen this episode. Give me less options of using my iPad/phone as a remote and more options on actually watching content on the “GO” as the name suggests

Sky q app was fantastic, it worked perfectly and most importantly DIDNT FORCE you to watch adverts. Sky have no forced us to use this new “improved” app which doesn’t search very well, doesn’t remember where you were at with shows on the sky box and now FORCES you to watch adverts. I already pay you £50 per months stop being greedy. If this isn’t fixed quickly I’ll be cancelling my contract and you will have lost someone whose loyally paid you for 13 years. Extra profits only work if you don’t increase churn and customer acquisition costs. This change will cost you dearly if not fixed quickly. In summary, 1. Removes the ads or make them skip able like in the Q app by dragging the slider. 2. Fix the sync between q box and app it doesn’t remember where you were at or even which episodes you’ve seen already which defeats whole point of multi room. 3. Fix the buffering I have 500mb speed yet sky go takes on average 18 seconds to open even a show, longer for movies when the Q app only took 6 ish.
You don’t force people off a platform that works unless you’re providing a better service....

I mainly use the app whilst using the big TV screen directly off the main Sky Q box. With the Sky+ app I could control my Sky+ HD box remotely from the app quite completely. That functionality was reduced by the Sky Q app but at least I could change channels from my Sky Q app and record other channels while I couldn’t do much else I was expecting the ability of the Sky Q app to control the SKY box to improve over time. Changing to the Sky Go app I can’t do anything. I can’t even switch the power on on my Sky Q box remotely. It really is a backwards step and it doesn’t seem to offer much over the old Sky Go other than making it easier to watch recordings on my devices - which I don’t want to do when I have a 65” TV to watch rather than a 4” smartphone!!!

I mainly use the sky go app for sky sports and watching football matches on my phone. The picture quality isn’t great, if I’m honest. I also have the BT sport app to watch sport & football, the picture quality on that is far superior compared to sky go. I can’t fault the lay out of the the sky go app and it’s certainly a lot better than previous versions & the BT sport app. Sky please improve the picture quality and maybe add a few more features watching football, like replays of goals if your catching up with the game.

My sat signal has finally been smothered by trees and I thought I could finish watching the series I’d started using sky go. But I got half way through the first episode and realised that I’d rather just dump them and not know how they end than continue watching something with interminably long, unskippable ad breaks. Tampax - don’t need them. Women’s fashion - really, really not interested. L’Oréal - I actually think I’m worth far better. No idea what the rest were about because I wandered off and did something else, then realised that the show had started again and I simply didn’t care. Lucky for them - being forced to watch ads makes me really, really hate the products. And that bleeds over into all the other products that the company in question makes. So if I’d been interested in any of the products advertised, the ads would have killed that off by the end of the episode. As it is, they’ve simply killed any interest I had in sky go.

This app is good because, you can watch pretty much anything you can watch on your box. The adverts can be a bit much, but I’ll just ignore them or do something to kill the time. The only real problem this app has is... the video player for the live TV feels dated. Only has rewind or forward 10 secs, play and pause. It’s ok for films etc, but for sports it’s not the best. If you miss a goal or an incident, you can’t go back. BT has the moments of the game highlighted, and you can go and view it whether it be a goal or a red card. No matter what time you start watching. Sky make and advanced player for such things, and this app would be perfect.

to be honest, I’m about to cancel my entire subscription to Sky after over 20 years. the cost is ridiculous, you pay yet still have to watch ads and idents; the newest movies are extra and as expensive as actually going to the cinema; the back catalogue of previous series for current offerings is laughable and sporadic (eg modern family, GOT, etc - really Sky? with the amount it costs to watch your service and over £12 billion in revenues yet you can’t afford continued licensing rights??); they curate when you watch shows that don’t fit their political agenda (John Oliver, Trevor Noah’s Daily Show - when they’re critical of anything conservative the shows suddenly disappear from the schedule or play at weird times); the new movies and sports coverage is truly awfu and covers the bare minimum, new releases/sports events cost extral; you can’t even cast this pathetic app properly to standard devices - oh, and lastly their spotty and slow broadband throttles any content not Sky-sanctioned, including other media and newspaper sites. I’m hoping things improve under Comcast, but their customers speak of them just as poorly. Do yourself a favour and find what you want to watch elsewhere - it’s not hard and it’ll save you a fortune.

I love this app. On my ipad it is a portable pocket T.V. I take it to relatives and we can watch pretty much everything. I also use it when I am pootling and scootling around the house. The variety of programmes offered is so varied I would defy anyone not to find a preference. I can now also use it abroad. Well done sky.
The only minor downside is it once suddenly informed me that programmes were not available and to try again later. Sky tried to be helpful (their customer service is superb) but they suggested there was a global technical problem. The following day I found the same message and felt sky should have informed me that to delete the app and reinstall it via the app store would have solved the problem. I wasted hours to find this out by myself and to clear this error but it now works fine.
The other huge problem is Skys reliance on adverts and not only on this app. They are everywhere and their frequency and repetative nature spoils viewing hugely. They interrupt to quickly and frequently. On this app I turn the sound down and dont watch or listen to them. We as customers I feel deserve better as our fees, like advertisers, pay for a service which is only partially fulfilled. Without this embellishment it woul be worth a five. I do not mind a few adverts but I dont want to share my viewing with their spoiling frequency.
A great app with a very varied and versatile choice of viewing options diminished by unnecessary frequent advert interruption.

Huge negatives are its ads and bugs on demand.
Normal TV doesn’t have this problem, you can fast forward adverts, but here I’m forced to watch them. Also if I want to carry on where I left off on a series I’m not watching in order, it’s difficult to pick up from where I left off. This is made more difficult by the first ad, then another ad if I want to skip to a certain time in the episode. AND the adverts for a particular show are always the same, I must have watched the boots, Vauxhall and ikea advert 50 times already.
Also, the descriptions don’t always match that particular episode, they’re often wrong.

Sky go is a life saver. I've got it on my I pad and on PS4. On a long drive it keeps my Mrs occupied so I don't have to listen or talk to her and when staying in hotels the PlayStation gets hooked up their TV, keeping me and my mistress occupied so I don't have to talk to her.
When either the wife or the girlfriend go out or go to sleep ( depending on who I'm with at the time) I get to find a movie on sky cinema and relax for a couple of hours before she awakes and puts on a terrible Indian series on Star Plus. But at least the rubbish shows mean I don't have to listen to her.

Sky go is very good for all ages! It’s brill when we head of somewhere that takes quite a bit of time and then we would just turn on sky go and watch it on our way. If you do want to watch on the way some where, with 4g or 3G it does mean you have to let them see your location but that’s only when your on the app and then I just turn it of straight after, and also it doesn’t matter because you’ll be moving in the car anyway if you did use 4g or 3G! Finally you could use it when your on holiday and the tv doesn’t have what you want, sky go also lets you continue from what you were in the middle of watching and I give this a five star because of all this and that it has adult programs as well the only thing is you have to have a sky tv!

As much as it is great to have access to programmes anywhere and at any time, the barrage of ads that must be endured for this service is majorly frustrating and disheartening. It makes u want to give up trying to watch. When u try to skip forward to a certain spot in a programme it is impossible without having to watch even more ads. You think u can watch a little something in a quick half hour to spare and it is next to impossible with ad interruptions. The other day I spent the whole spare half hr I had spare watching continual sets of ads as I tried to find my place in an episode, which needless to say I never got to watch. It’s ridiculous! Why is this necessary when Sky is already 5 times as costly as Netflix for the same type of service and there isn’t a single disruption by ads to any film or programme on Netflix and you can flick back and forth to any point in the film or programme that you like without a problem. At the very very least u could keep your ads to the beginning only on programmes, like you do with the movies, because it is extremely difficult to endure. It makes me lose hope and puts me right off the service.

Sky is going down especially it’s app. This is simply because sky keeps flooding the viewer with tiresome annoying ads that keeps repeating and repeating if you’ve for example watched 1.52 mins of a 2 min app and it’d restart again if you got in and out of the app because you wanted to quickly check an important text message or email or even reply then get back to the show. So a 45 min tv show would take me 90 mins to watch because of this stupid annoying algorithm sky can’t simply understand. Busy ppl like me rather pay for the same tv show on apple with zero ads and watch 2 tv shows in 90 mins instead of 1. It’s our time that is more valuable than money itself - if slow sky can eventually understand before sky loses all its market share. Anyway enough said enough generosity for not getting paid anything for this.

Only downside is the limit of downloads, which is per household, so when my husband downloads a film for holiday, and the same film the next holiday, that is the download limit reached, so I can never download it. Also applies when the download expires unwatched. Means if, like many, you want to watch GoT from the beginning before the new series airs you can only do it twice, once if you downloaded any of the episodes as they aired the first time.

Handy app but nowhere near perfect

This is a handy app for when you need to watch your fave sky shows and there’s something wrong with your telly! But it’s also really annoying. For starters, the constant ads throughout the shows are really annoying. Secondly, it doesn’t let you automatically watch the next in the series or even tell you where you left off or what you last watched. You need to search for it again and then, sometimes you can’t just play from where you left off you have to start again and then toggle trying to guess where you were, and watch a bunch of ads all over again!! This app is nowhere near as good as Netflix or prime in terms of functionality and features and needs to get with the times!

Utterly useless

If you like paying to watch advertisements . Yes sky go is perfect for you. But this is not the only issue here although its THE main one. The app is poorly designed. Its not intuitive and user friendly at all, its right opposite of those. Its also full with bugs. After watching 3 minutes adverts to watch 28 minute show in sky go at around 8th minute into the show you are forced to watch another 3 minutes of adverts. But wait this is not the worst, after you finish watching the same adverts all over again for 3 minutes the same show just starts from the beginning. And when you try to skip to the point where you have seen it all guess what happens. Yes you are right another 3 minutes of adverts. So to sum this up I have watched 9 minutes of adverts and 8 minutes of the show which is in total 28 minutes. Total waste of time.

I watch sky go extra a lot especially when the football season start . I notice you can have subtitles on and on sky news . I have tried to put them on they don't work . It would be brilliant for my as I am hard of hearing and have to wear headphones all the time . You have the subtitles added in the new update but they don't work I would you sky go if they worked . I can't download any programs because you down have subtitles except in a foreign programs . Even sky news doesn't have subtitles . Deaf & hard of hearing people would love to use sky go and download programmes but we can't unless we use headphones . So please but subtitles on your programs and downloads even your sky plus boxes don't have them . We want to be able to enjoy sky go & sky plus on demand to .when the sky plus app going to get updated it never gets updated .

Invaluable but sometimes frustrating

I travel a lot so being able to catch up with programmes I’ve missed is a great help; although I record them on my Sky box there’s never enough time to watch them all.
The Sky Go app is good but there are some frustrations. They include:
- you can’t download all catch up programmes, some have to be streamed, but this might be a licensing issue and not Sky or the app’s fault
- downloads delete 48h after starting to watch them - why? What’s the problem if I want to watch something in two parts a few days apart?
- the app forgets which devices are registered; then I have to remove and add the device back, which can only be done once a month
- if I pause watching something the phone screen blanks quite quickly (if I go to make a drink, for example) and when I come back I usually have to restart the programme, though of course it does pick up where I left off; why can’t it simply be there waiting for me to press play?
There are other niggles, though I’d rather have the app than not.
