Advertising heavy but I can live with it. What I can’t live with is getting half way through a program and it then looping out to the start to watch another 8 adverts. Everytime it glitches, back to the adverts. Everytime I move my place in the program, more adverts. Some of the programs won’t even open and the (updated) app? I don’t see why there needs to be 7 ads between each break or even before a show starts. You click off the app to check a notification then back to the start with 7 30-60 second ads! Sort it out. It’s very inconvenient and unnecessary!! This is why I’d prefer to download my shows with sky to avoid this problem but when out and about and what to watch something then this is what your up against.

I sat down to try to watch a programme I’d missed from the night before and gave up after 20 minutes
It’s just advert after advert.
I had to watch 9 ads before it even started.
Sat down to watch & 6 minutes in I had to watch another 6 adverts.
Programme restarted & yeah you guessed it. 5 minutes later another 7 adverts
I’ve had to give up.
I literally couldn’t take anymore.

Worst catch up app I've used. It cuts films off halfway through every time. This App breaks down constantly. Forever getting error message saying it's unavailable due to 'technical issues'.
If you pause viewing for 5 seconds it forces you to watch the same 7 adverts AGAIN. As soon as you select 'Resume' it immediately plays a lengthy ad break every time
On a 45 minute programme you get one ad break at the start and finish and THREE in the middle. That is 5 x 4 min breaks or 20 minutes. I've just deleted it.

Kept this app on my Apple TV because they do have programs that I like to watch. Every now and again I dip back in to see if they’ve reduced the number of adverts they make you sit through. This time it started to play the adverts but with the program sound playing in the background so by the time the adverts had finished I’d missed 10 minutes of the show. There’s no point letting this thing take up space so I’ve deleted it! I’ll keep checking comments every now and again to see if they finally listen to what everyone’s saying…

They obviously seem so intent on making sure the advertising system works they have sacrificed making a usable app.
You’re fine if you watch from start to finish but should you dip out and try and come back in you end up with the audio from the show still playing over every aspect of the app - including the Home Screen. If you think trying to start a new instance of the show will sort it - it doesn’t- you end up with the original audio stream still playing on top of the new instance.

Since the last update, the My5 Apple TV app has ceased to work on most of the menus live TV home et cetera. You cannot scroll to the right to make your selection rendering the app completely and utterly useless. Please fix it. I’ve restarted the Apple TV. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it all to no avail. It’s your app that is broken not my set up

I have today got the my 5 app from the Apple Store. There is plenty of tv programmes films and much more to view. It is to easy to find programmes to view. I would definitely recommend this app and it deserves the 5 stars which I have given.

Sadly the recent app update has resulted in having to put up with poor picture resolution for about thirty seconds after the adverts. All adverts are in perfect resolution tho’…funny that. The player is very basic and can cause problems if you try skipping ahead or rewinding, but at least you don’t need to pay a subscription fee for the privilege of having to watch the annoying adverts. That said…the on-demand content/back catalogue is good.

I appreciate that Channel 5 need to make money, and ordinarily have no issue with advertising.
However, I am currently in the middle of a thirteen ad long intermission in the middle of “All Creatures Great and Small”. This intermission does give me the opportunity to right a snarky review of the app but is otherwise of no benefit to anyone since I’ve no idea what was advertised.
Other commercial tv providers allow me to pay them money to avoid ads: I don’t see ads when using ITVx or Four. Genuinely, I’m sure that three or four quid a month would give Five more money than they get from me watching the tales of North Yorkshire veterinaries.

The app is buggy, looses connection where others don’t & our fttp connection is steady with a speed of over 700Mbps. When this happens it shows adverts. We have seen 3 sets of adverts before getting 2 minutes into the actual tv show!

Today, not for the first time, My5 wouldn’t load and I had to go through the tiresome uninstall/re-install procedure. My5 lacks a facility, when watching live TV, to start a programme at the beginning. This is available from competitors so it’s time My5 did the same. A shame the app is so poor because the content on Channel 5 has improved recently.

I don’t know if there has been a recent update, but since then my iPad version has been experiencing issues. Frequently there is no sound or the picture has expanded for no reason. Also the guide to live programmes is nonexistent. I used to use this app quite often, but the problems I’m experiencing are frustrating & after 5 or 6 attempts to watch say Law & Order at lunchtime I’m on the verge of deleting it. Used to be a very good app.

From 4 ads per break to 9…joke

Watching Wentworth and in the first season I sat through the three ad breaks each consisting of 4 ads with a total time of around 50 seconds. Not ideal but acceptable.
Second second and there are still 3 ad breaks but each now consists of 9 ads with a total time of around 4 minutes. So to watch a 45 minute episode I have to sit through 12 minutes of ads.
Ridiculous. I’d honestly rather pay a monthly subscription and have no ads than this.

3 different devices and pretty much unusable on them all.
Problems range from inability to mirror on a tv with any stability at all to just being clunky to operate. Ad breaks break the stream with no option other than to go back to the beginning. Resolution is poor too, which we don’t get on other channel apps. There have been issues with pictures being cast but without the sound.
Pity because 5 has some good content we’d like to watch. Oh and the tv resident app doesn’t work either just spins endlessly trying to load but can’t connect to the server. If this sounds like it might be all due to a poor
Internet connection, it’s we don’t get similar problems with other channels.

Still no multi-task / PiP function? (iOS)

This app is generally well designed but still feels very far behind those of other mainstream streaming services due to a lack of multi-task / picture-in-picture functionality.
Separately, subtitles (CC) will disable themselves randomly when briefly leaving the app but not closing it, and immediately following ad breaks. Not a massive gripe but somewhat irritating to have to keep enabling subtitles every 15 minutes after commercials.

There was a program I’ve been looking to watch for a long time I finally found it on your app and couldn’t be happier. However the ads on this app are not worth it. Before you even watch you show u have a 5 minute advert than 7 minutes in another 5 minute advert and so on till you have 20-25 minutes of just ads for a 50 minute program. No program to is worth all that ad watch I understand you need ads but that just silly. And if you touch the wrong button the ads start from the beginning. For this reason I’m uninstalling and staying with Pluto tv that great and has NO ads at all. I’ll happily come back if your ads change.

I live in an area with no broadband so watching via mobile signal - The programs are really in my interest zone, unfortunately the buffering has progressively got worse and worse. Is it because the content is more and more super high definition and therefore require more data/ could there be an option for a lower data versions of the programs or a version of the software that would work in areas with less broadband availability?

Way too many ads(on one use I accidentally clicked the back button and had to endure another God awful long ad break from the start again), I thought this was a catch up and on demand service. That should be for the programmes NOT the ads as well. All the other on demand and streaming services can balance the ads, yet not do here. The worst app I have ever used. No option to skip or go back. No option to skip intros unlike every other app. Trying to use scrubbing to go back or forward is impossible. The app is so unresponsive & at times I have no option but to do a shut down to get out of it. If it freezes or crashes through no fault of your own you then have to sit through another 7 adverts even if you’ve just watched some. A real shame as there’s some great programmes I would like to watch but the app has put me off.
I’m astounded to see some of these 1 star reviews saying how bad this app is are 2 years old & yet five have done nothing about it…

App functions pretty well. But. But. ..
But the adverts… good grief.
Every 8 minutes; a batch of 6 to 8 adverts plays.
Most of the time, the same four adverts are included. Currently a fat black skater pushing always towels. Some bed mattress thing. Several betting ads. Plus fast food.
Every 8 minutes. You get a batch of 6-8 ads.
You pause. Or fast forward… another batch of the same adverts. Six to eight of them.
You cannot choose an episode from a series. You cannot skip to the next episode.
You have to close the episode and go back to the Home Screen. And then at the start of any new episodes….
Another batch of the same 6-8 adverts.
Almost unwatchable. And enough to make you scream.
Certainly enough to want to uninstall the app.
They announced a prime app in 2017 where you could watch ad free; like other, better apps.
But it never happened.
This app is truly terrible.

Where does one start. The worst of it all, you can’t even rotate the screen on an iPhone so end up watching a very small letter box, thought we got over this hurdle 10 years ago! And if you can cope with that it will decide to just kick u out mud watch back to the main My5 screen?? Come on, get some proper developers working on this and fix the issues, not some bunch of half baked wannabes why must’ve got bored and just chucked this together. Poor show and poor reflection on the channel.

I love the content of My5 it’s a shame the app is flakey. The main issue is with the pause/play icon. It is unresponsive until clicked 3 or 4 times. I’ve no idea why nobody has fixed this glaring issue. It’s annoying. Please fix. I end up having to close and reopen the app and watch all the adverts again… oh wait that’s why they haven’t fixed it… because they want more averts to be played so they can get paid… ohhhhh makes sense now

This was clearly developed at low cost by C5 somewhere to do it on a budget. It’s awful. Freezes all the time. Usually during playing an ad. I don’t mind the high frequency of ads - but the user experience is so bad you it just reminds you why you happy to pay Disney+ and Netflix subscriptions to avoid bad things like this
It doesn’t have to be this bad though. There are many good ad supported streaming apps out there but this isn’t one of them. The other reviews have to be paid for

Review 3 Jun 2022: The good news is that this app allows one to see (some) past programmes that one missed first time round. The bad news is that the app used to be better, and used to host programmes from minority networks, but has now discontinued these. It is also worse technically making for a frustrating user experience. Programme info cannot be viewed in full (oversight by programmers) screen overlays stay too long and cannot be hastened to depart, and if you try you’ll get another 5 minute compulsory advertisement break thrown in. If you are watching a series it does not automatically move on to the next, you have to search through and select the next one from memory. In short poor, as these apps go. Yes there are advert breaks, but My5 have to make money - that’s ok with me but extra adds for pressing the wrong button just pisses me off.

The app works great. Fantastic picture quality and no technical issues on WiFi or mobile network.
But it’s saturated with ads. Two and half minutes of ads before you even can start watching whatever you want to watch, that’s taking the mickey out of us users. I DO understand that advertisement is a income but FIVE ad’s before you even start watching is absolutely ridiculous and laughable and then in the middle of watching a program another two and a half minute of watching ads.
Now I remember why I stopped using this and I WOULDN’T recommend ANYONE use this app. Two stars is generous because overall the app works well and it’s easy to navigate. Channel 5, you really need to do better.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews but this app needs fixing. Ive given 1 star only for the true crime content which is why I downloaded the app. It constantly freezes usually after you’ve been made to watch 6mins worth of adverts. I’ve lost count the amount of times I’ve had to close the app down and restart, only to be made to watch another 6mins of adverts before it resumes the show.
I’ve checked my wifi signal which is fine and I don’t have the same issue with any other streaming app.

The same problem has been occurring frequently for years- plays 6 or 7 ads before program starts then freezes so have to switch off device to restart app, then get to watch 6 or 7 ads and it freezes again failing to play program.
They have been ignoring this problem for years ( it’s happened on different devices)
so I guess they don’t care if people get to actually watch their content as long as they play them some ads.

I am absolutely glued to this program, The only problem is it won’t let me watch the very first one which is a shame , My Five do some absolutely fascinating programs you just want to sit and watch them all , May I suggest a way to set out your series , tap on program the if there is one to six episodes lay them out so people can pick which one in that series they want to watch ,

I was pleased with the app until tonight. I started to watch a movie but had to pause it. When I went back to resume the movie the many ads started, which is fine. Unfortunately I could hear the sound of the ads shown and also some other ads at the same time. The audio ads stopped and the sound for the movie began but I was still seeing other ads and their sound. I’ve tried coming out of the app, closing Apple TV down and restarting but as soon as I go into the app the sound starts before I’ve even selected anything to watch. This makes it unwatchable. One star given as I can’t give zero stars.

Stop switching the subtitles on halfway through!

Yes, there’s a few adverts, but I’m okay with that. But please, stop switching the subtitles on after each commercial break. The programme starts fine (without subtitles) but as soon as it resumes after the first ad break, the subtitles come on without me touching the screen at all. I turn the subtitles off and all is okay, until after the next ad break, when they’re back on again! Not so bad if it’s at programme with only 1 break, but if it’s a film with 4 or 5, it gets pretty repetitive.

Will happily load and make you watch 8 adverts before a program, however, as soon as the adverts are over it conveniently is unable to load the main program. Closing the app and re-booting it doesn’t let you skip the ads that you just wasted 4 minutes of your life on, when re-opening the program; it forces you to waste another 4 minutes watching them all over again.
This is quite obviously an advert scam as they get people to watch an advert multiple times and thus charge more money towards the advertisers; I refuse to believe that a large corporation has bugs or oversights as glaring as this in their app.
I am well aware that this review will not change the world but hopefully one or two people choose to not download this app and fall victim to having their valuable time scammed from them.

This is potentially a really good channel but every time I first go in each night half way through what am watching it kicks me out! I then have to go back in thinking it will continue were I left off but no, I have to start from the beginning. It’s nothing to do with my apps as it happens on my living room tv and bedroom. It needs looking at as something isn’t right, apart from that it’s great.

I love using this app and don’t even mind the ads but in last month or so it keeps crashing.. whirling and then blank screen and you can’t get out of it until you delete app and reinstall…. I have to delete app and reload and then re login to my account. Very frustrating. Have had to do this at least 4 times in last month. I regularly keep updates up to date so what’s happened this once really reliable app. HELP.. please sort these glitches.

I'm sorry but this app is absolute rubbish seems to have a lot of bugs like when I click on a video it comes up with the age question asking if your over 16 so I put yes and then after all the ads it came up again and asked me again so I click yes watch more ads and what do it do it takes me to it again and it done this one more time anyway after that the program started but then half way through that it just crashed and it went back to my fire tv home page. They need to sort this because this happens mostly every video u watch!!! 👎

This app is in theory a portal to great content, but the app itself is buggy at best & virtually unusable at worst.
Trying to watch episodes of a series, I get several ads prior to each episode, very often being tossed out of the episode I have selected, and forced to rewatch the same 5 ad selection before I gain access to that episode.
Alternatively, during to said ads, I somehow get redirected to a different episode & still have to go through the prior ad selection.
Painful!

I had associated the Richard Desmond-owned Channel 5 with programmes about benefits shaming and below-average intelligence police officers driving fast cars to bully the socially inept. However, the recent Dan Snow Dambusters 3-parter and Chris Tarrant rail travelogues have been great, along with the usual flagship 5th gear and Gadget Show, so keep it up. App also works better than other prime channels.

First it forces you to watch ads...6 of them, which is okay. But if I’m casting to my TV, why does it prevent you from doing other things with your phone in the meantime?! When I tried to switch to other apps to burn time while the ads played on TV, it froze the ads. Terrestrial TV does not force ads down my throat. I can do other stuff whilst they play, soo why do I need to be force fed them with this app?
Then after casting the ads to my TV, it then asked for my permission to access my Apple TV (which it has already used to cast the ads in anyway). After granting permission, the app freezes and does not load the programme I wanted to watch.
When I try to start watching the programme again, it tries to make me watch another 6 ads. I closed it down, and deleted the app.
My5 need to get their UX sorted out if they want customers. I get your funded by ads but don’t force users to watch them. Users should be allowed to multi task like they can with terrestrial TV. Then at least make your your app actually works and load the programme. The fact this was able to work perfectly to play ads but failed when it came to playing the programme shows that your focus is on ad revenue and not customer satisfaction through the content you’re delivering.
Whoever QA’d this app before release should get a new job.

This has got to be the worst TV app ever, every time there’s an ad break you are bombarded with 6 adverts then if you hit the wrong button you’ve got to go through it all again. Today I had the thrill of having 2 adverts being shown simultaneously....12 adverts....great! Then after all of that they showed a couple of ads up coming programs before I realised it wasn’t the episode I wanted being showed. So then you go through the whole procedure again. Please allow us to linking in the the episode before the ads. But I guess it’s because channel 5 is just greedy for advertising money.

Today I tried to use the My5 App for the first time. The overall look, menu system and picture quality but all fine, however these all fade into insignificance when before you even start watching a programme you are forced to endure 7 minutes, 30 seconds of Adds. I understand that adverts are what finances Channel 5 but this is absolutely ridiculous! This isn’t the end of the adds as you still have to endure multiple adds throughout each programme. All I can say is that I for one do not have the time or patience to put up with this nonsense so am about to delete the app on a permanent basis.

I was assuming that this program would have some sound information about dogs. What a lot of trash aromatherapy for dogs what a good laugh, dogs enjoy smelling other dogs butts. Obviously not fragrance that is Alien for dogs poor Betty I feel bad that a obviously anxious dog needs were made worse by a idiot who obviously knows nothing of dogs where do you find these people don’t you check there animal qualifications before you let them near animals. You should have showed her mum being taught how to treat Betty so the problem is solved for both. Not the total rubbish that was tried.
Birthday party I have party’s for my dogs but they are controlled.
Doga impulse control rubbish they were tormenting the dogs with treats without commands.
Also you never take a new dog into a field full of strange dogs at once. That is just common sense.
Hope this review helps genuine animal lovers that already have common sense not to watch this trash.

This is by far the worst tv app going. Shocking function to filter programs. The category section is available only in a-z list that you have to scroll through each time you want to look what to watch. The tv app doesn’t remember what you have previously watched so therefore impossible to know where you left off. To find out you have to guess and that’s where the adverts become annoying because averts are at the beginning of each program which wouldn’t be so bad if the tv app told you which episodes you have previously watch.

I love to watch catch up tv I have an app for every channel. Channel 5 is an app I’ve had problems with for years! It results in me avoiding the app completely which is a shame because they have some great shows.
I decided to give it another chance and within 2 days the same problem rears it’s ugly head.
Half way through a program and interestingly AFTER the adverts the program appears to freeze/buffer. Reload the problem and after watching the ads again, same result.
Just went to watch another program, AFTER the adverts and guess what? Same thing.
Personally I think it’s a ploy to increase revenue for advertising because there’s no other explanation as to why you’d have this ‘bug’ for years

I have complained about the live stream issues before, now the latest update I have been unable to watch the shows that I’ve loved because of this ongoing problem. No sound or app completely crashes!
I have not seen an improvement on being able to download and watch offline either.
I am trying to watch your shows, but I cannot! Time you got a new developer to overhaul and get this app to work properly!

Please Please Please do something about your app!?!?!? I love the programmes you show on Channel 5, but the app doesn't work. It is always freezing or kicking you out of programmes when trying to get into them. Why don't you hire some computer whiz kid to sort out all of your troubles. There are so many clever people out there looking for jobs! It's obvious you have a space in your team to take on someone who knows how to sort it all out!!!! You are loosing the fight to stay at the top where you should be because of this rubbish app. This has been too long we have all been waiting for you to rectify the problems!!!

Updated hoping the freeze bug had been fixed but now it opens with no sound, I have to go out and in to the full screen play a few times until the sound comes on.
The freeze till happens, much of the time around adverts starting but also happens within a programme too.
Using the current version of iOS 13 on iPad Air 2.

I’ve been using this app for some time and like the previous comment it freezes when the programs goes to break and then I’m required to reload it. Now, whilst watching something for no reason the program will freeze but I’m still receiving the sound and the the app shuts down. I have checked if it is possibly something to do with the auto lock but it shouldn’t be the case as it’s only a recent problem. I have always had my auto lock on with no issues and I’ve taken it off and the problem still occurs. I no longer enjoy using this app as I cannot get through a program without having to reload it!!!

Great Content! GREAT PROGRAMMES! Just slight niggles to improve on! But get this app!

I had history saved as a guest and when I created an account it wiped it.
However on the whole a great app with programmes for all, I love the police ones- traffic cops, police interceptors and the tube one and padding station programme along with many more. Although sometimes it can struggles to connected to video and is a bit Buffery or slow even when I had good WiFi. Just sometime to improve on. But generally get this app, it’s great! 👍😀😃😍🤪🥳

Do you like adverts, then this is the app for you!
Adverts are the way that channel 5 makes money, and there is no issue with that. The issue with this app, is that if you so much as get a text, alarm or phone call come up while your watching, it will make you watch a set of adverts before you can unpause (often between 2-5 minutes of ads)
If you close the app part way through a show, when you go back to finish watching at a later point, you will have to watch a set of ads, even if you only have a few minutes until the next ad break, or to the end of the show itself.
A child could have developed a better app than this... either that or they just want to cram in as much ads in as possible £££
Its as if they want you to go and watch it somewhere “illegally”.....

Had to write a new review as the My5 app has really improved from when I was last using it. A joy to be able to watch the 2 series of ‘Blood’ on it recently which were excellent. A nice format of app for browsing shows, and no need to sign in if you don’t want to. Very impressed.

This app is unbearable. There are some decent programs available however the user experience is diabolical. Every time an advert break comes on the app freezes, requiring you to quit the program, disconnect from Apple TV, open the app again, locate the program you were watching, fast forward to where you were, reconnect to Apple TV, watch the same adverts again and then finally watch the next segment, until the next advert break where you have to start the frustrating experience again. I was trying to watch a program with my family, and we had to keep watching a Tampax advert over and over again every time we restarted the app. The slogan was ‘get it up there girls’, which was embarrassing enough the first time, but after several restarts it was unbearable. Sort this out!!!

I watch a lot of your programmes on My5. Love the choices and variety. The app lets the programming down. My kids love milkshake but I have to navigate to the milkshake category for them. Their own kid friendly profile or a separate kids app would be amazing as the programmes in milkshake are brilliant! The milkshake website is also very temperamental.
Often the app won’t let you watch certain programmes or there are playback errors. Sometimes programmes get stuck at the ad breaks.
Such a shame as your content is great!

Gets to an add break and then stops playing

Gets to an add break, doesn’t play any adds, just sits there flicking back and forth by a second. In order to get it to play again you have to scrub past the add break, which is obviously impossible to do with accuracy. Doing that turns the subtitles on, but the app doesn’t think the subtitles are on. You can fix that by turning them “off” then on and then off again.
All in all, irritatingly bug ridden. Won’t be using it again, I’ll just steer clear of the few channel 5 programs of any interest.
