GitHub Functionality Is Broken

Version 9.9.8
It has the Email Address field twice, however your fill it in it says that your username is wrong. Since git functionality is basically required for me to do my job on a daily basis, this is entirely useless to me. Requesting refund.

Very functional, very good

Version 9.9.8
In my experience, this is amongst the very best editors on iOS, and the most functional - at least for my usage anyway. Very pleased with it.
I genuinely am puzzled why the overall rating on the App Store is not 4.5 or over. It would be truly deserved IMHO.

Won’t connect to ftp if the username is an email address

Version 8.2.4
I downloaded this app a couple of years ago as it supported split views quite early. I’ve found myself using Buffer as my default editor. The Vim bindings are a godsend allowing me to use most of my Vim muscle memory when working. If you’re comfortable with Vim and modal editors you’ll probably like Buffer.
The only real improvement I’d look for would be better inter-app communication with Working Copy

Expected more for the price

Version 6.4.2
The editor itself is fine, but the git integration is kind of mediocre. As other reviews have mentioned using SSH would be prefereable.

This is the best text editor app I have found. The keyboard is especially good. My only improvement would be Google verification.

I like it.

Version 2.7.2
I quite like this editor as I spend a lot of time ssh’d into various servers and being able to stay in just the one app is great.
My only gripe is that without renaming you can only open files with supported extensions. I would ideally like to open any file and then specify the formatting. If this exists then I is dumb and sorry. I will add the extra star though.
EDIT : My bad. It seems that if you create a file with the desired extension you can open files of this type ever after. Star added.

Poor security features

Version 7.9.8
I have only used this for 10 minutes, but it seems to offer a reasonable interface and remote text editor - which is surprisingly hard to find.
However there is no fingerprint security option to open the app. For something that gives access to remote servers this is extremely poor and i will not continue to use the app until this feature is added. If it was a free app then this might be acceptable. But to charge and not have security is very annoying.

Not worth for the vim keybindings

Version 9.4.7
I found this app because of the vim keybindings but honestly at this point I don’t think it’s worth getting just for that.
Setting up connections to repositories isn’t exactly simple, with the multiple possibilities (ssh keys, 2fa) all done in the same UI with confusing explanations. I had trouble with this, contacted support with a detailed explanation of what I did and screenshots, and received some videos and returned that showed exactly what I had done. In the end I fixed the issue by force quitting the app because apparently if you fail setting up your connection the first time, it just keeps failing even if you delete it and try again.
The remaining UX of the app is fairly confusing, and you can’t access the user guide outside of it, having to go backwards and forwards when setting connections up.
I wanted to like this, but at the moment I can’t recommend it.

Version 4.0.0
Has potential, but could not connect to Sftp using a private key. Even though the UI is there to do so the app said it was unsupported.
Need these fundamentals otherwise really better to not show them. Disappointed as I can’t use the app.

Solid app, very useful

Version 4.2.2
Since I first posted a review for this app, the dev got in touch and fixed my biggest complaint about it (a glitch with tabs). I already have the new version in - what? - around four days. That's great! And, since my updated review, he's fixed yet more things in double-quick time. This is review number 3. There are things in the app that I'd like to see expanded upon (I'll get to those) but at the moment it does everything I need it to do. For its current price point, and the effort shown by the dev to fix the issues I had, I'm upgrading to 4.5 stars out of 5. And rounding up! :-)
Quickly, the things I love about the app. It's easy to set up, font options, colour schemes, auto-indenting etc. I had no problem connecting to the files on my iMac. Editing works well, plenty of options. I particularly like the buttons for choosing one of five symbols.
Now, a few things I'd like to see in a future version:
1. I'd like the tab button to be wider. I use this a lot and there should be plenty of space for it. By all means, shorten it again when in VIM mode.
2. I'd like the feature to add my own keywords, for variables etc, and to customize their colours. It'd be great to have some editable text file with lists of types, structs, classes, functions, methods etc so I can make my code a bit more readable. Keep the hardcoded lists, just allow them to be supplemented or overridden.
3. Last, I'd like some form of code-completion, which (ideally) links to an online library help, but at the least allows me to define something similar to code snippets functionality of XCode.

Seems ok

Version 5.4.2
I wanted to like this, but I wanted to download a folder from Dropbox and work on it offline, then have it resync when I can back online. It behaved...strangely... when it lost connection.
I also didn’t like that it wanted access to my entire Dropbox, not just a sandboxed folder.
I wanted to use Git too, but the Bitbucket integration is poor and not at all polished. Using SSH + Key should be trivial, but it looks hard to set up.

Gitlab connection doesn’t work

Whenever I try to connect to Gitlab the app crashes.

Major Shortcomings

.Psamathe
 –
2018-07-01
Version 3.7.0
Trying to select a large block of text just does not work. Drag one of the selection marker outside the small text view (small even on an iPad) and it starts jumping about all over the place, sometimes moving the wrong way, sometimes back, changing direction randomly. Try and dray the bottom one and suddenly the view jumps to show the top one and moved the bottom marker up losing all the marking you’ve already done.
Deleted app and loaded a free alternative which works perfectly.

Excellent – an iOS SVG editor!

Version 9.9.4
This update brings SVG editing. iOS gets a very good and capable SVG editor. The creation, editing and production of SVG graphics and SVG interactive assets is now made a lot easier because Buffer editor can now edit SVG, keeping the whole workflow within iOS. Hooray!
If you’re involved in making SVG, use this for your editing.

Version 3.6.0
Within 5 minutes of installing I noticed that pressing undo doesn't work properly. I don't want to risk losing work so not going to use it any more. I'm deleting the app cos I now don't trust it with my work.
The undo issue is...
Select some text, then type to replace it, then press undo. It doesn't restore the text that was deleted.

Version 8.3.8
Overall decent app with a good option for saving, and languages. The one feature I'd like to see is using ssh keys, as I dislike having to enter passwords no matter how closed the system.

Version 6.1.1
This is on par with Textastic. A nice set of features, some need polishing but it'll get there. I now primarily use this one for my editor as it supports many of the vim keybinds where many editors dont do this, the vim workflow is awesome so Ill look forward to any future development in this area. Id love to see bitbucket support or support for Working Copy like Textastic does, currently you can only edit one file at a time with 'open with' which is a bit slow to do that way.

Version 8.2.0
Having had the app for about a day I have to say I'm finding it very useful. I didn't expect it to be as good as it is for such a cheap price!
However there are some features I believe would make the app even better:
1) I am yet to find an option to increase the text size which is causing me to squint.
2) split 2 files next to eachother to work in 2 files at once. Atom.io does this well on PC.
3) copy and paste files to a new location.
4) auto indentation (this may already be a feature but I'm yet to find it other than the indent button)
Other than this, very impressed.

Version 8.4.5
This is the best "code" text editor for iOS. I hope they have integrating a C++ compiler on their roadmap.
Only downside for me is that syntax highlighting is not very good for C++.

Version 8.3.4
I've been looking for an editor for editing / debugging on the go for years. Even tried An****d. This will do nicely, even has its own ftp client.
Ok it'll never replace Dreamweaver, but until Adobe makes that for the iPad, this looks like my tool of choice. A couple of quid well spent.

Version 9.8.3
I have been looking for a text based editor for web development on the go for years.
I have only wanted 2 things:
1. Nice Design
2. Remote Access
This app is gorgeous, easy, tidy and the additions to the keyboard are incredibly helpful.
I could not possibly be more happy, well worth the money!

Finally! I found an editor which allows you to edit files on the fly and which doesn't force you to download them first. And as a code editor, it is more than descent. Highly recommended.

I've been looking for a good text editor on iOS for ages: look no further. This one has all the functionality you need, decent themes, beautiful monospaced fonts, syntax colouring (optional) for an impressive range of programming languages,—and it's very well integrated into iOS.

2012-08-06
The app does not appear to be finished. The keyboard is just the standard iPad keyboard, which makes the vim mode almost useless. The app seems to have many journeys that result in dead ends, for example, when using the "source control" interface there is no way to return to the app after syncing. The only way out is to quit the app and restart. Not polished and definitely not worth paying for.
