I have repeatedly reported a bug where notifications appear silently regardless of whether sound is enabled, so you don’t actually know a notification has been delivered. This makes them pointless.
The developers have never once responded to my bug reports, and the bug continues to exist YEARS after I first reported it.
I’m sure if a bug affected tracking of their referral links, though, they’d be treating it as priority 1…

It’s ok for deals but unseeable as a discussion forum for anything - in my opinion.

This app used to be great to get honest opinions from the general public about products on special. Unfortunately they have become obsessed with maximising profit from referral fees.
They now censor critical comments about products. Also rather than the public posting reviews they’ve got paid posters who constantly post deals on rubbish products from Amazon which are really poor quality. We could do with a good competitor to bring them back to their roots.
Really can’t recommend the app or the website at present - so disappointing.

Updated: Decided to give it another go to see how things have changed. It’s got worse. I decided after a little while of reading and replying to posts to post some items, these were quickly removed by mods who reposted the same items under their names!!! When I politely complained about this I was banned from the site last week. Says it all really when a sites own mods steal content from its own community. Stay away.
Original: Having used this site for a long time and seen the implementation of the pepper expert (or so called experts) programme it has unfortunately gone downhill to the point I no longer see it as usable. The site is full of deals that save a penny just so the experts and people who want to be experts can get their stats up, the community forum is full of people that ask questions which a simple bing/google search would answer and there are some quite poisonous people on there too. Deleted my account and urge others to do the same.

It appears that the highlights tab has been replaced with for you; tailored by tracking you I’m led to believe, whilst this is unwelcome I can appreciate the logic. However, for me it has removed the USP in my opinion. I could trawl through the highlights tab and find things that I never knew I needed, and rarely using hot and commented tabs. And if I wanted to find the best deal for something I can do it myself. Please, can you bring back the highlights back so I can enjoy impulsively buying things that I did and didn’t need.
Edit: After feedback from the developers, I was able to have my highlights tab back. Happy to have it back the way I like it.
I really feel like the tailored “for you” wasn’t helpful for me; the deals were scatter gunned and didn’t feel relevant for me. There was some really random things being suggested for me.

I seem to have 2 separate feeds for items with keywords I’ve saved/subscribed for alerts on. Which is which, what’s the difference and just why?
So hard to keep up with what I’ve seen, when and what I’ve subscribed to. Shame but it’s ruined the app

I used to enjoy using the app but since the updates and new layout with the notification tab I find I’m using the app less and less.
I don’t like the notification tab. It was much better for me to get proper iOS notifications for my saved alerts. Now I have to go into the app, select the notification tab and click on the deal when I have a spare moment.
Overall the experience for me has got worse, not better. The app used to be great. Please devs: revert back to the old layout and notification system.

Been on this site for 6 years.
The absolute worst moderators I’ve ever dealt with, they’re completely incompetent, delete deals you spend time posting for THEIR be if it because they can’t do simple checks their end.
The community is also EXTREMELY toxic, If someone doesn’t like a comment and they spam report your comments will always be deleted, literally could say anything the mods take the easy route and just delete it regardless.
The site has a huge bias for certain mediocre deals becoming extremely “hot” when the deal is more lucrative for them, dare I say, like it’s faked. They also run a dictatorship on what companies are worthy of being posted, like the huge ASDA for example being black listed.
Over the years it’s very clearly became way less about authentic deals and more about lining pockets, lots of back hand deals seem to exchange hands.
I’ve had mods literally delete a deal because they felt I edited the deal (which requires approval) to many times, which was 3 times due to errors they included in the deal.
I’ve posted deals an item in multiple colours and the mods allowed someone to spam deals if each colour separately directly from the deal I posted and copied the description I wrote but I’ve posted a deal achievable using a code that was posted previously and they deleted my deal.
I posted two separate deals for two products in different ML and of course good deals for either ML required and very different price points and they deleted one claiming I posted it already because of the completely different deal on the other ML..
They’re also extremely rude and unprofessional when talking to their users (that generate their free income).
Just a clown show all round 😂
Don’t bother trying to contribute because I can assure you it’s just a complete waste of time. Use it to find deals, then don’t buy through the links on site, search for it yourself in the app / site and buy it to avoid providing them with affiliates income.

So overall the concept of this app and the fact you can check for deals is great. But with a recent update the notification system was changed and it’s now annoying flawed.
Yes, you still get notifications but trying to get them cleared is a pain - you can’t just pull down on the notification list to clear them, you have to click the ticks. While that makes it look like the notification is cleared it doesn’t actually clear the notification badge either in the app or on the app icon on your phone homepage. Instead you have to click to clear notifications then swap away from the notification page and hope this clears the badges.
All in all this buggy, poor user experience of one of the key features ruins the app.

The usefulness of this app has dwindled over the last 12 months with the increase in bot driven deal activity which spams the new deal timeline. This makes it harder for the genuinely good value deals to be noticed and more of a pain to scroll through activity and sort the wheat from the chaff.
Download if you’re looking to be bombarded with free Amazon books or 2% off a new graphics card.
Not much help for other items I’m afraid.

With a recent update the app that I used to use daily became slow and unresponsive despite flying on my iPhone before. Perhaps there’s been some under the hood changes that caused this but the difference huge. Moreover the UX has suffered too with the new layout just simply being confusing and unintuitive. It’s really sad to see such drastic regression in one update.
Hope it can be reverted to an old version. It feels like cutting corners at the expense of speed and usability.
Devs need to revert some of the recent changes to this app!

Ok so I have used this app for many years and I do love it at heart BUT I really don’t like the way recent updates have gone and loved features removed for no reason.
So I had not updated my app for a while and every now and then I update anything that’s pending or if I’m having issues with an app in particular.
After applying the latest app update to the HUKD app I found that my layout had changed and it’s much more of a challenge to use/navigate, to the point where I just avoid it now as it’s too much a hassle to check what I need to.
The feature under settings for setting a custom launch screen so that I could have any group as my default deal feed and have it arranged my new was amazing. So useful, as believe it or not most people that use this app are only interested in a few certain groups. I don’t want to have to scroll through hundreds of deals that don’t interest me and have to individually select groups from menus. I just want to see what I need to see as soon as I launch the app like it used to be.
I have seen some other reviews that are also complaining about these now missing features and I think the response was that “it’s wasn’t a very popular feature” in my opinion I don’t see how this warrants removing a tiny little setting that a lot of people found useful. Not sure what stats were used to decide this removal but I think it should be added back in. Don’t see the harm in having the option there even if not many people use it.
Other recent reviews seem to be low too, not for my complaint but other things. I think the devs need to read some of these and take action abs make some new useful changes and revert some old ones to keep their users happy.
Really hope the devs see this review and take some action as right now 2 stars is a generous review of this app and I find myself using it less and less these days.

New redesign makes it impossible to find subscribed threads

The new redesign has a single "Notifications" page which has all of your deal alerts and subscribed thread notifications in the same place. This means it is impossible to find new comments on subscribed threads, as they are buried under all of your deal alerts. Deal alerts appear on the default "Your deal alerts" tab of the profile page anyway, so there is no need for them to be replicated in two places. There appears to be no way to filter out the deal alerts from the new Notifications page to just see the subscribed threads. I currently have 9 alerts from subscribed threads that I can't see because they are buried under pages and pages of deal alerts.

I’ve been using HUKD for years now but the recent update has removed the ability to have the homepage sorted by a group by default. Every time I load up the app I have to navigate to the Groups section and then choose the group for that app session. I then have to do this again if I check the following day.
It’s really frustrating as I don’t care about general hot deals but only those for the group I’m interested in.
I know I can still select the group but it’s no where near as useful as before and I’ve found myself going from checking all the time to clicking on the app every now and then which will mean I’ll definitely miss out on great deals.

Often when scrolling the page, the app loses track of me swiping which is not providing a very nice user experience. Loads of good humored regulars, though there are some undesirable users who are easily blocked.

I have been banned within 5 minutes of opening the app for ‘spamming’. I have tried to contact the customer service but for some unknown reason my complaint ‘could not be processed right now’ and was told to try again later. I’m glad this didn’t happen after I had ordered an item which never arrived and tried to contact customer support about it. Scam scam scam.

I thought it was because my phone was on the way out, but having just got a new phone, the behaviour is the same. The app is fine when in use, but as soon as I switch app or the screen locks, I am informed that the app has crashed and I lose where I was. It is extremely frustrating. I've tried signing out/in and reinstalling the app, but nothing works. Please fix.

We do get an alert for something but when we go to app; it’s very difficult to find that item however we do expect these alerts to be available for us in our alert tabs.
I was relying too much on this app but mostly I miss things because of these technical glitches. Looks like they replaced tech people.

This app has become very frustrating to use after the last few updates due to constant refreshing of the feeds.
If you’re scrolling through any of the deal feeds and then go through the ‘Get Deal’ links thus leaving the app then you can say goodbye to where you where as the app does a complete refresh so if you had gone quite far down the deal feeds you’ll be spending the next few minutes looking over the same deals again and again.

Just updated the app and the main deals screen seems to have disappeared. That’s the screen with various categories that you can swipe horizontally to scroll. I wasn’t keen when it was first introduced a couple of years ago but was used to it. Why change it? It’s now more complicated to view ‘hottest’ deals each day.

I have been a member for around 10 years. I was initially very active, engaging with the community by posting deals and commenting on others.
Then, after a few years, the website lost its charm. It was no longer a friendly website. The good deals dried up, in favour of those that earn the owners commission.
It’s sad to see a website that had community at its heart now turn into a cash cow, milked for every referral link it can get its grubby paws on.
The militant team of moderators will strike down anything they don’t deem worthy or agree with. It’s turned into an old boys club of those scoring high profits for posting deals that back in the day the community would post for the good of the community and not take a single penny for doing so.
Ive had the app installed to see if and how this would change, but sadly it has not. It’s become ever more commercialised and focused on one thing... making profit for Pepper.

Upon clicking on a notification all other hotukdeals disappear! What is the point of this? The notifications barely include the contents of the picks message and clicking in any of them all the notifications are gone? How do you expect people to keep track what they read and what not? Especially when the app itself doesn’t tell you what was the last message you have read so that you continue from there...
Response: Thanks for the reply, but I have to say you are missing the point here. Yes, the notifications are in inbox but customers have no idea which messages they have read and which not. In WhatsApp the messages were always opening to the last unread not at the bottom. Failing to understand and acknowledge the faulty implementation is very disappointing...

Hi I’m using this app everyday. This is the best app to find good deals if you want to save some money. But only problem of this app is it won’t keep the last status correctly. If I press the home button while hukd app opens and open another app then if I come back to hukd app, it refreshes and going back to beginning. Please fix this issue. It’s very annoying because I have to scroll down again to find my old deal.

This is a great site with loads of people who are really informative about the products and lots of savings to be had .
One thing that would be good is to select all of the post’s for the item searched for as to find the upmost cheapest price , service , delivery etc

The app itself and the community of people on it is good for those wanting to pick up some good deals and share them amongst others.
However there is a big problem with management about ethics: for example; if your comment on an item is not to their liking, they (admin and management) remove it and suggest you refrain from such info sharing urging the usual political correctness that is running a crazy in our daily lives.
You can comment on what a great deal an item/service is, but...BIG BUT: you cannot educate people that the item they are purchasing is associated with a nation/manufacturer whose actions have been condemned by various nations and bodies such as NATO, UN, HUMAN RIGHTS FORUMS AROUND THE WORLD AND AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL. As with all things ethics and morals are flushed down the privy with the excuse of political correctness.

It may occasionally encourage me to spend when I shouldn’t but sometimes you feel you are practically stealing the goods. I have been a long time user of the Hotukdeals app and have been very happy with it. The app has been recently updated it and changed the categories which means that I cannot automatically search for the categories I am interested in. Yes I can look for them in a sub menu but there is no way to say I want certain categories all the time and the sub menus don’t give you as many optional lists. Very poor!
The temperature slider for alerts is now fixed!

Whether it was a coincidence or the developers actually read my review, my only issue with the app is now solved!
I can now happily set the temperature of the custom alerts with ease, no more headaches trying to fine tune the slider to the number I want. Thank you! It’s much much better now!

When someone reviews something regularly the post descends into basically a slagging match ,it’s so pathetic to read,adults picking fault with the slightest thing commented by someone or even worse dragging out a joke or a pun it’s like they all see something reviewed and instead of complimenting they seem to think if they post a stupid saying or joke they are going to look big FAIL

HUKD have started abusing access to my notifications (which I only granted initially so that I could get keyword alerts) by posting incessantly about specific deals which I am not interested in.
Today’s example is the eBay 20% off offer - I saw it this morning, and did not need a further 3 notifications throughout the day. If there was an option to only keep keyword alert notifications, I would opt for that, but no such option exists. As such I’ve disabled notifications from the app altogether, which is a shame as the keyword alerts was the great thing about the app in its early days.

Everything is a mess with this app. Not surprising as the website has gone down the pan. Stupidity of the moderators is unbelievable. Used to be brilliant in the early days. You can post a good deal and it goes cold, only for the same item to be posted a few days later, at a higher price, and it goes scorching. Mod rules. Usually anything posted by a mod, no matter how good or bad will go hot. Also, folks don’t read posts, they just vote because they either like or dislike the item.

Really great app, easy to use and bought many items at great prices!
My only problem is the multiple notifications as it started after an update and I was getting duplicates within seconds, now with the BF update, I’m getting three notifications for the same deal! My phone doesn’t stop! Don’t want to turn off notifications but it’s going that way!

I’ve persisted with this app for as long as I can but I just can’t bear the multiple notifications any longer. I hardly ever receive a single notification for a deal, usually between two, and this mornings record, six!! All sequentially one after the other and each identical, I thought my phone had become stuck in an infinite loop. I’ve contacted the developer and posted on the forum but had no response from either so, for now at least, I’ve uninstalled. May try again in the future if this ridiculous issue gets fixed.

This app is a good tool to use for all the bargain hunters out there, but there’s one major issue: multiple notifications for the same thing. Whenever I get a notification for any deal, it pops up at least 6-9 times. My notification centre is constantly clogged with copies of the same notification! The worst part about iOS now is that you can’t clear notifications by app anymore, so I have to manually swipe through hundreds of notifications.

After the new design I couldn't get it to load the featured deals page automatically. A few updates later and it's all working as it should. The interface is getting easier to use with each update as well. Can't wait to be able to load straight in to my keyword deals again, then it will be five stars.

Developer response has explained that this issue will be fixed in the next version so I have reviewed my review. I like the app overall and seems responsive, if a little more confusing than the website overall.
Original review: I mean if I hold down backspace I expect it to delete faster not skip over the words. Pretty terrible.

However sometimes users often make a good deal cold, may be from over expectations they do that.

While i love the concept, and used the older version of the app daily, i've found the re-skin difficult to get used to over the last couple of months.
My usage has dwindled to a couple of times a day, which is a shame.
I know companies want to keep things fresh, but when it comes at the expense of usability, is it really worth it?

I’m pretty good with tech but I can’t quite get to grips with all of the tabs on this version. Can’t see the need for them all or work out what the differences are. I’m not a big fan of the new colour scheme either.
I like that you can save searches when you’re looking for something specific now but I don’t use HUKD anywhere near as much as I used to.
