..and I found it incredibly difficult to find this simple fact out. Various searches and Google forums show lots of people with the question but
the very simple answer (street view pic won’t appear when in landscape so you can’t trigger it) was not found until I read a review here. I’m not sure what’s going on at Google these days, but they certainly seem to have lost it.

Updated 11-Feb-2024 ****** IS ANYBODY THERE ? ***** . Updated 30-Jan-2024 to note that no-one has responded to this request. . I have tried submitting forms via the App … but no-one appears to be paying any attention. The location of my dwelling is incorrectly shown on both Google Earth and Google Maps … this is very frustrating as it causes difficulty for visitors, couriers, etc. !! The property is named, not numbered, and I have repeatedly shown the required correction. Surely this is NOT THAT DIFFICULT to put right. .

Losing direct streetview on the iPad is just another example of Google’s decline.

For quite a few app updates now I’ve noticed the Transit and Traffic Widgets disappear, only to be replaced by a single Map Widget with sign-in indicated.
Removing that Widget doesn’t resolve and strangely Transit or Traffic are not available to re-add…the only workaround is to restart the iDevice…then they re-appear again!
You may want to investigate why this is happening.

When clicking on a road in the past, a street view picture would appear on the left hand side panel. Now, there is nothing.

This used to be such a great app, my Go To for almost everything when I was researching a new place, revisiting somewhere from memory etc... They seem to have got rid of the facility to just Drop a Pin, then go explore the area in 'almkst' any way you wanted to it was fantastic..
Now, since an update that ability to just wander has disappeared, there is some frankly, unhelpful dots where people have uploaded their photos at that spot but not the ability to roam up an down streets properly or just have a mooch around to see what might be interesting around the next corner, and the next corner etc.
Come on Google get your act back together, restore/ improve if you can that aspect of the App and it will be a fabulous experience once again. Not just this frustrating, janky, half baked mess that it currently is..!😳

Like the title says, it’s good most of the time and gets me to places that I need to go to. But, this morning, I was looking at how to get to my work Experience placement, and did it take me to the right place with the busses my dad said to get? No. Luckily for me, I looked when still at home, but if I get lost going to work, I’m blaming the map.

add a hgv part to this app💫🌸

I love Google maps and would never go to a different navy system. It's clear, quick and very easy to use. It gives you all the info you need to have a safe journey.
But, I now have my hgv licence and am looking for a good navigation system to use. One that could take the vehicle details and work out the best routes that avoid, weight limits, height and width restrictions. Green zones and also takes the vehicles speed limit into account. Maybe also tell you how long you have been driving for and when you need to take a break and for how long.
Add a little hgv tab where the car, train, bike and walk bits are to open the hgv bit.
If you could do this then you would continue to make me a very happy Google maps user

Pins to save locations no longer functional

4 years since I wrote this initial review reporting this problem and it’s still happening. Other reviews show I’m not alone, yet the issue is just ignored by Google.
Why have a feature on your app if a, it doesn’t work any more and b, you’re not going to fix it?
For years I’ve added pins on Google maps of locations to visit, usually adding a note in there to say what is at that location. All been working fine for years and now whenever I select one of those pins it just automatically deselects it straight away and just gives the coordinates, all the notes I’ve added I can no longer access. I can’t remove the pin and re-add it, because I can’t select it, so I now have no idea what the thousands of pins all over the world I’ve added are for. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, to no avail. Whoever thought of that update needs their head wobbling. I can’t be the only user experiencing this . Response to developer: I’m using the latest version and still having this issue . Further update to the above, the same is happening with all the pins I’ve saved since this review. A lot of users have reported this issue over the last few months, yet it just seems to be ignored. Looks like it’s back to good old pen and paper to note places to go.

It’s really need to upgrade!!

i honestly don’t care what anyone gotta say but today imma speak truth into people cause this app alone saved my life, swear down if I didn’t have this app I would be lost somewhere probably crying. I was literally sweating down my back trying to figure out a way home, I walked for god knows how long in literal circles and I said CIRCLES, and when I say non of my friends were helping me I mean it, one friend hung up on me which messed me up. So with my last hope- despair crawling through me head to toe I turn to google maps, at first I thought I was crazy because I used Apple Maps and that’s horrible, but nonetheless I carried through and yes I did make a few wrong turns but google GOOGLE MAPS saved me, it would either show me I'm going the wrong way or would create a whole new route depending on where I was at the current time. I tell you if you’re a person that doesn’t know your way around and get lost easily, don’t be like the old me please download google maps it will just save you time and tears. As well as shame 😕

I like the feature that shows large arrows where you are going in the real time. And this I found extremely useful feature. Im 53 and never been in València but everyday had to go 2-4 kilometres to the beach and parks and playgrounds with my granddaughter and also be back home in time to feed her and put her to sleep. I never was late home I was always in time because of the feature that shows on real time where to turn and on 3D I can just follow those arrows. Thank you so much for this handy feature. (But I noticed that only IPhones have this feature a my daughter has another phone brand and this feature is not there). So thanks gain it’s a big help to the tourist in the new city!

“Check The Facts” still not working, can’t upload photos.

 –
AppReviewer7262748462
 –
2023-10-02
The Check The Facts feature has not worked on iOS for a long time now. As Google Maps relies on volunteers to keep maps updated, a significant part of the app is now not being updated. Changes I suggested (e.g. shops being temporarily closed for renovations for 2 weeks) no longer get published, as my proposed update is not appearing on other users’ lists of facts to check. Hence maps data is now becoming more and more stale. Unless Google fixes this, their data is only going to get more and more outdated, and eventually more users will be moving to other map platforms (e.g. Apple Maps, Waze, etc). Shame as I used to like Google Maps, but hey I guess apps come and go...
In addition, I can no longer upload photos of locations. The app wants me to share my entire photo album instead of just allowing me to select certain photos for the Google App to have access to. Google is now becoming more and more intrusive... I will not share my phone’s entire photo album with you Google, sorry.

Another update another CarPlay issue (fixed with latest update)

This app used to be flawless but recent updates have just been rubbish. First the freezing in CarPlay and now when opening it’s there and can navigate around the screen but the actual map won’t load/show. To get it to actually show the map properly on the cars screen you (or at least I do) have to manually open the App on the phone which instantly makes the failed map appear, I can then close/lock the phone and put it to one side. After doing that it works fine. If I open the phone and close app on phone it closes on CarPlay. This is new in the last update, in the past when you opened this in CarPlay it would just work, no need to faff with the phone. If you opened the phone you wouldn’t even see that app open. It just worked like the other apps. And this is most definitely a google maps issue because every other CarPlay app works flawlessly as expected on the cars screen with no messing on the phone. Does anyone actually test these updates before release by the company or is it just fire it out and wait for complaints?
Update: glad to see the latest version released 26 Sep 23 has resolved my issues regarding CarPlay.

Apple blocks this app from being as good as it is everywhere else.

Google maps is used by me and millions of others all the time. One of the great functions is that I can review and upload photos about a shop, restaurant or hotel that I’ve liked so others can take advantage of my experience and visa-versa. The app on Laptop, MacBook, phones and tablets all allow you to load your photos from your favourite photo account, but not the iPad or iPhone. I’m forced to upload from my iPad or apple cloud storage, but I don’t use apple storage for my photos and I’m never going to, so find that this function being blocked on the iPad extremely annoying. There a few things like this on the iPad which prevent it from being my complete replacement for a laptop.

Amongst the best..however

However, there is one major problem with it and it can also be a safety issue. Google own Waze and have brought many features to Maps like speed camera and mobile camera reports, this is good, however on iOS anyway you get zero warning approaching these. You would think like every other navigation app that has speed camera alerts it would alert you with either a voice or a beep, but not Maps, it sits there in silence relying on you to take your eyes off the road and focus on the map looking for the camera icons up ahead. This in my view is a big safety oversight. It used to warn you but for some reason in an update that was taken away.
Also the camera database is out of date. It would also be nice to have a warning we are entering a average speed check zone and as well as red light traffic camera alerts.
You also cannot report anything through Apple CarPlay which is a big shame as you can if just using the phone.
These in reality are very small tweaks which would make it the perfect navigation app.
Please Google, for the love of god take the good stuff from Waze and implement it into Maps.

Don’t waste your time with this app!

For a little while, this app went all right, it had quite a few problems with putting me on not proper roads and roads that weren’t roads, but fields! I used it though, because when it worked, it was good. Then one day I needed to use it (and I had also used it the day before when it worked perfectly) and the app stopped working! I tried searching anything and it would come up with ‘Something went wrong, please try again.’ And the actual map wouldn’t show up. I have re-downloaded it twice and had the same result of ‘Something went wrong, please try again.’ I also have been retrying it for 2 weeks with different networks and nothing has worked! It wasn’t because I was in a different country’s because I have tried in Scotland, England AND Greece! I have always had full bars for internet and it’s not worked since.
To Google: I was really disappointed with this app and I hope you fix it.
To readers: Please don’t waste your time because of the main reason I explained and because it also gives roads that no longer exist!!

I visited the store in January 2023 the very friendly salesman Naz showed me the most beautiful carpets without being pushy - I loved all of them but one stood out more - I was concerned that if I bought this carpet and paid him to ship to UK I probably would not see it again. I told Naz my concerns he said don’t worry we will ship the carpet to you then you pay - back in the UK I sent Naz half the monies towards the carpet and he shipped it straight away because I wanted it for Easter. The carpet arrived in 5 days more than in time for Easter which is not till another 10 days! Amazing service I have to say - a very professional company I have just paid the rest of the monies to them. I would highly recommend buying anything from this company they are honest and lovely people especially Naz!

Recent changes have ruined Google Maps

I’ve used Google maps for years and have been a long term fan, but some of the recent updates are ruining it. Did a 6 hour road trip today, journey I’ve done before and with the app no problems.
Today, there was some roadworks and an accident, not unusual for a long journey on a Sunday. Google maps kept popping up messages in an unreadable format when driving at 70mph. And each time it suggests a reroute it spins the map round to north and zooms out making it unreadable just when you need it. Then even if you select to stay on your route, it repeatedly suggests you take what it believes is a faster one. Then even if you’ve said no twice already (when you really don’t want to touch your phone when driving as it’s illegal to do so) it will still suggest you change and if you miss a prompt, as you’re focusing on traffic on the road, then it automatically reroutes you. Today it put at least another 30 minutes on my journey doing just that. A real nightmare.
I’ve checked the settings and there isn’t an option to turn it off. Looks like I’ll need to consider going back to Apple maps.

I think Google Maps is really good, but I’m only giving it 3 stars as I don’t feel Apple users get all the facilities available and I don’t understand why?
I’m a fairly new driver to the road so I’m relying on Google maps heavily at the min and there’s a few things I don’t understand, which I’ve also emailed Google about and got no response.
So I have an IPhone and when I’m using Google maps and on the motorway, and there’s an up coming speed camera etc, it shows on the map but I don’t seem to get any kind of audio alert to advise me, now I’m not a speeder or ever will be, but I don’t understand why it doesn’t do this?
Also on Google maps it shows me the speed of the road I’m on, but doesn’t include the speedometer on my phone screen?
The reason I’m raising all this, is because my friend also uses Google maps all the time and has a Google pixel phone, and gets audio alerts for any upcoming speed cameras and also gets the speedometer on his phone screen, but no matter what I try i can’t get any of these features to work, on my iPhone.
Google, is there a reason why as an apple user I’m not getting or allowed theses handy/ useful features?
I have written to you before and had no reply?

Stop changing driving routes mid journey.

If I select a driving route DON’T CHANGE THAT ROUTE WHILE I’M DRIVING.
I chose a route to get a nice view on backroads on my way to Tentsmuir beach and ended up being directed through Dundee.
I never want to go to Dundee unless absolutely necessary.
On the way back, I was *continously* told a faster route was available and had to poke the tiny No button to dismiss it while driving.
Apparently not tapping No results in the faster route being automatically selected, potentially causing you to appear in Dundee against your will. And tapping No seemingly recalculates the existing accepted route.
I ended up coming back into Crieff from St Andrew’s way via *Muthill*, which as everyone on planet Earth knows is absurd on its face. This was via a route making me drive right across a dual carriageway.
The clueless nerdery that’s resulted in the stupid and careless decisions that have gone into the direction handling UX of the iOS version of this app will end up getting someone into an accident, and maybe killed. It might sound a bit hyperbolic to say that but its what can happen when drivers are confused and distracted by a demented satnav that sabotages their explicitly chosen route while operating a vehicle.
iOS maps app is now good enough to replace Google Maps, so thankfully I get to delete it.

Google maps is terrible compared to apple maps. It will always take me through longer routes than apple maps and gives silly directions like go south. How on earth would I know where south is do I look like a compass? Upon nearing your destination google maps decides to zoom itself out so you cant see which house is the one you actually need to be at which is a pointless and annoying feature. It is not as clean looking as apple maps either which is another downside. However, one thing helpful about google maps, especially when being a delivery driver and delivering to multiple houses is you can add stops therefore have multiple stops on one trip which is a great feature to be honest. Apple maps doesn’t have this therefore I do use google maps when doing multiple delivery’s at once. If google maps was to make adjustments I would defo start using it more but at the moment I do not recommend to other delivery drivers or friends/family.l

I love Google maps and have used it for years. I loved how I could get walking directions on my iPhone and then pick it up on my Apple Watch, which was great as it avoided having to wave my phone around in a strange place with the possibility of someone grabbing it. The turn by turn directions were great as it just looked as if I was checking the time. Sadly it has suddenly stopped working on my watch, I set the directions on my phone, pick them up on my watch which is fine but within a few seconds it exits maps on my watch and I have to keep relaunching the app every few seconds on my watch. I have checked on a few forums as I thought I may have accidentally changed some settings, even though I knew I hadn’t; however it seems I’m not the only person who is experiencing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As a lorry driver I’m on the road all the time. I love Google Maps it’s a tool I couldn’t be without. I find it really useful dropping pins on places that I will have to go again in the future. I normally run Google Maps on my phone and my Garmin truck sat nav at the same time, this is because I need the weight, width and height data from the Garmin but Google is really helpful in traffic, looking on satellite view and just generally smoother. I wish Google could make a truck version because the majority of lorry drivers use Google maps most of the day but it can get a lorry in trouble very easily if not paying attention. Overall tho such an awesome tool and one of my most used apps. Thank you!

I can not be the only person having problems with the position of the home button, Would it be possible to reduce the size and position of this button please.?
Hi again,
Would it be possible to have the option of moving (My Location button)and (navigate to buttons) to the left side of the map view either left bottom or left top,Would be better for right handed people using thumb who keep catching and ending up back home if accidentally catching when trying to view somewhere else on a map view (very annoying) ?

This is just the most amazing place. I have been visiting Bev for approx 12 months for all things beauty. From walking through the salon door the whole staff team are just super friendly and instantly make you feel welcome and comfortable. Bev is a true professional and perfectionist. She is a master of her trade. She listens to what your concerns are and gives her knowledgable experience as to what the best outcomes will be for your individual needs. She is open and honest and will never ‘push’ any treatments that you are not comfortable with. It’s so obvious that she takes great pride in her craft. If you are considering any sort of aesthetic treatment, I am certain that you won’t find any where better than this super salon.

I have used google maps for sometime, i have seen a mass improvement in the past 12mnths!
Its obviously been updated?
The only issues i have is sometimes theres a delay in instructions, ie: turn left in 100yrds, but you have already passed the left turn🤷🏻‍♀️& your position on the map isnt where you actually are( however this is probably in a dip in coverage, more than the app)🤔 the other issue i find, is if you just have a postcode, then this could cause issues! (Depending on how large the postcode area is) resulting in driving around in circles!
So always try & input exact full address!
Is it perfect? No, but generally it get you where you need to be 99% off the time! 👏

I have been using google maps for many years. And compared to the big two Garmin and Tom Tom this is by far the best app to use. Is it perfect no it’s not. But a little checking before pulling away can save a lot of the little problems. Check the final destination is correct. Check postcode and double check house number is at the same location or even tap in the business name.
The options to take alternative routes is a real life saver when live traffic is activated. This has saved me literally hours. Route could be nice and clear when pulling away but 2 hours down the road anything can happen. Gmaps will alert me with nice big red travelling time. A quick zoom out and a tap on the screen gives a quick detour around the problem.
DEVs: A lot of delivery drivers use this. Just one little question. When will you release an option for hgv vehicles (width restrictions and height restrictions). Nothing a little common sense doesn’t sort out but please bear in mind that hgvs do use your app.

I want to take some time to leave some feedback for the amazing dentist Mhiran Patel at the dental health spa in Brighton, who not only made me feel very ease but rectified an issue I have been upset about for years. In stead of talking me into changing my crown he actually rectified the issue with my current crown. When he handed me the mirror I cried, as it’s something that I have disliked for many years.
I was always nervous about going to a dentist however, he made my experience seamless and comfortable and I cannot thank him enough.
I have been recommending the surgery and he to family and friends and I want to say a huge THANK YOU to him, and I hope he is recognised for his outstanding work.
I have an appointment with him soon to have a tooth removed whereas usually I would be very anxious about this, I feel because I have him as a dentist I am so much more at ease.
My experience was the best I have ever encountered along with the receptionists who made me feel at ease when booking the appointment originally, and were outstanding on the day with their support and care.
Just an outstanding service all round 👍🏻

I use google maps on a every day basis whilst driving a high top van in & around the city of London but the one problem I do find with google maps is that when it’s diverting me around traffic it keeps taking me down roads with width restrictions of 6 foot wide, my van is slightly wider than that and the embarrassment & frustration it causes me when I have to try to back up to do a million point turn isn’t good!
Also I’ve experienced google maps trying to take me under low bridges that are 7 foot in height again not good as I’ll take the top of the van of 8 foot height is just high enough!
Please sort this out google & have us van drivers in mind as you only seem to cater for car drivers !

If you think eggs are boring I suggest you pop into Egg Run opposite Monument tube station and let these guys educate you. I ordered the NewYolker, a beef patty with tomato lettuce sweet onion relish American cheese ( the stuff you can only seem to find over there) topped off with a perfectly cooked Clarence Brown egg and inside a generous bun, I also ordered the fries with the same relish & cheese on top.
First bite….awesome. Lovely beef patty with a slight crunch from the lettuce & tom. The flavours all work well together especially the richness of that egg. Now this is a seriously delicious meal and can be a bit messy but here the rewards outway the mess. Bring some wipes or tissues and just get stuck in. You won’t be disappointed. Bring on tomorrow’s lunch 😁

I moved to Dubai three weeks ago and have been looking for a nail salon by reading people’s opinions. Salon by Mitz popped up on one of the page and caught my attention immediately. Simply by looking at their photos you can see precision.
I contacted them via messenger in the evening and got the reply straight away. The booking process was simple. I had my appointment next day which positively surprised me.
Lisa, the lady who did my nails was absolutely amazing. Knowledgeable, kind and precise. She consulted with me what i wanted to achieve and fulfilled it 100%.
I must say that I had gel on my nails prior to the visit. They looked much chunkier than those that Lisa did and I’m very satisfied with the outcome. I must admit that, doing nails for the past 20 years in three different counties , I have never been so pleased as with those that Lisa did.
They have got a beautiful shape, colour and thickness. Amazing job! Highly recommended! I will be back:-)

I booked a table for 4 in a quiet area for last Friday evening. Three of us ordered the salt and pepper calamari which was hard and greasy. We didn’t say anything but when the main meals arrived, two of us had ordered the nachos and pulled beef. They were inedible. The nachos were wet and the pulled beef looked as if it had been liquidised. A real dog’s dinner. The waitress took them away and replaced the order with a meat and prawn skewer which was ok, but the grilled chicken for the chicken and caesar salad arrived 10 minutes later on a separate plate with an apology from the waitress who said that the chef had forgotten to put the chicken on the salad. All in all, it completely spoilt our evening with friends who we had not see for two years. No sign of the manager who could have come personally to apologise and perhaps offer a free coffee/tea as a good will gesture. A really awful experience.

Google maps cannot even place my address so any directions are wrong. I have asked them for years and they show a photo of a block of flats an d say this is my house!!! They insist my house position is 741 London Road. There is no such number (I believe as this was demolished years ago) and this land in Brambleside corner of Hammersley road is now Latter Day Saints church!!! Every now and then for 30+ years I have told them. The google map car came down Brambleside Cul de Sac and took photos of Broderick House, a block of flats like the other 6 Blocks all with numbers 1 to 6 on the name plate and made that my house. Visitors that come to see me I have to give the postcode of HP11 1LE which is a block of flats. Come on Google I will be dead soon Speak to me via email/phone and ask where you are going wrong..I want to give a minus one star but YOU have already placed a ONE star which I cannot remove.. The maps are brilliant and it’s great the green places are now once again green, and not washed out gray. BUT the app itself is a mess! Every time I use it the interface is different. Today I am swiping like a maniac from the side to access the hidden menu, nope, the menu is now hidden in a completely new unintuitive way! I wanted to d/l an offline map, finally figured it out. Then I wanted to delete old offline maps, nope, nowhere to be found (well actually I did find some “saved maps”, but my newly downloaded map wasn’t there and I couldn’t delete what was there). I also looked for Settings, where user info (& the cache) used to be. Can’t find that. The app has too many overlays and context specific menus, I don’t need to know the temperature or a review of the crossroads I’m standing at.

I’m a courier and I rely on google maps all the time when going from drop to drop in areas I’m not familiar with, I’ve always raved about it’s reliability up until now, when I’m route mode it often flashes up I’ve arrived when in actual fact I’m miles away from my destination so I tap continue and it tells me I’ve arrived at my next destination which is even further away then it does it again, I’ve had to go back to doing individual stops again as I find I can’t rely on route planning anymore, please google sort this out it’s been going on now for some time, the other issue is CarPlay integration, it’s shocking, from time to time it’ll just crash and shutdown, other times I will stop at a drop, turn off the ignition and when I come back moments later I have to input all my stops AGAIN!! Sort it out google!!!

I am an NHS keyworker and found myself in Newquay today. I had to take my dad for a scan at the hospital. My dad then said I could use his car to drive back to Exeter. As I got in his car to drive back in the rain I found one of the wiper blades was broken. I knew there was a Kwik fit just around the corner. I arrived there and ran in the door only to be told that they had closed at 5pm. Nik Curnow the manager that they would open again in the morning. After explaining my dilemma and informed him that I needed to get back to Exeter for work. Nik then said he would fit a new wiper blade. Nik and and whole team are real life savers and I am eternally grateful and appreciate the fact that they did not have to help but still did it anyway.
Thank you so much guys

The app is not really that bad. With a good data connection, there are few issues with the overall operation of the app. The current issues are quite minor but noticeable. Firstly, which may be due to the increasing presence of roadworks and road closures, the app takes some very interesting detours which are not direct by any means, and often are pointless as the roads have reopened hours beforehand! The second thing I’ve noticed, is at the top of the iPhone where the time, battery and cellular signal strength are shown quite often revert to black, which makes them almost impossible to see. They would be a lot better to be displayed in contrasting white all the time to remain visible. If these issues are rectified, the app will regain at least an additional star.

I use maps primarily in the car as satnav through apple CarPlay. I used apple maps for years because it’s clean, reliable and just generally a very good app. I tried google maps along with a couple of other apps e.g. waze because I wanted some feedback about the traffic around me. Apple maps will advise new routes if there’s traffic but I doesn’t give you much more info, this keeps the app clean but it’s not what I wanted. Google maps has a very simple but game changing feature for me, and that’s the active alternative route information. It will actively show other routes with the estimated time when taking the route, this not only allows me to anticipate traffic and take another route but it’s also enabled me to become more familiar with the areas I drive around regularly. I’ve been using google maps now for over a year, and while there isn’t much difference in terms of functionality compared to Apple maps and waze, it just has some nice extra features which I couldn’t be without. The interface isn’t as nice as apple maps, but the demo icon/arrow when driving and using as satnav is more accurate and the graphic makes it much easier to understand where you are on the road and what exits you need to take, especially welcome on busy UK roundabouts.

Google maps default is to change the route when you have set a preference

 –

Decide to go for a ride off highways on my motorcycle. Set preferred route plus avoid highways and start riding. Almost instantly Google maps ‘finds’ a highway route which is shorter or more efficient and puts a prompt to tell me that unless I tell it again it will change my route from a preference I have already set. I have a few seconds to pull over, remove my gloves, get the phone out of it’s holder and tell it not to do that. No time to do all that so it switches route. It’s the same even in the car. I often don’t have time to alter the prompt when I see it because my priority is actually driving.
It’s quite simple. If I have set a don’t use highways preference then DON’T USE HIGHWAYS. If I picked a route from alternatives THEN USE THE ROUTE I PICKED! I don’t mind the prompt telling me of traffic changing but if I have made a choice then the default answer should be to do what I told it to do already.

I have always used google maps but lately I’m finding it to be extremely frustrating. Today I wasted 40 mins of my time going back and fourth because google maps got the bus stop wrong. Bus 425 does not stop at bus stop HA near Homerton hospital (London) by the way.
Also it would tell me to leave at a certain time to walk to a bus stop and I would be waiting at the bus stop for the bus to come and then it would say the bus has already been. I look at other people to confirm that I didn’t miss the bus and the bus ends up not coming at all or is 3 mins delayed. Another time google maps provided a route on foot but part of the route was actually to walk through the walls of a building. How is that possible? - I’m not a ghost! The building looked like it had been there sometime. All I can say is, google maps needs to try update things at a quicker rate if possible.

I often use google maps to find locations and routes. But more and more, I’m finding that it directs me to longer or convoluted routes where, by simply looking at the map, I can find quicker and shorter routes.
The best example I can quote: I used it to find a location and the best routes to get there from my, then, current location. It suggested that I walk to a bus stop then take a specific bus. Fair enough. I walked to the bus stop. I then checked the route again from my ‘new current location’. Guess what! It suggested that I walk to the NEXT bus stop on the same route and take the same bus! The SAME bus, as in, not just the same number, the same physical bus with the same schedule!!! I decided to ignore it, took the bus from where I was and that was that. This is one example of many similar incidents, where it is very obvious there’s no sound logic to get you where you wish to go.
I genuinely feel there’s something more to their algorithm; like, if we tell people to go in obvious circles, would they do it? Do they follow directions blindly losing all sense of their spatial surroundings? Are people developing a lemming- or sheep-like behaviour?
That would certainly make a very interesting study, but I don’t remember signing up to it. It come at costing people time to get places. It’s not harmless.
I now tend to ignore most recommendations or inspect them and check for myself before taking google maps’ recommendations.

Too many mistakes in the navigation system!
The application try to lead me into one way roads.
Shows me “turn right” many times on places where i am not allowed to turn.
Front of the Tower Bridge there are 3(!) mistakes too. For example the cars are not allowed to turn right from the Byward street to the Tower Bridge. I see many tourist every day do this mistake with rented cars because of the google maps and in this cross it is very dangerous maneuver.
I do not like the Waze. Slower and looks confuseing compare the google maps. I still want to use this app but you should fix this issues asap because there are many around London. Please update your system more often. This is the most populare navigation system on the word. Please handel this fact with responsibility.

Original review: I was a big fan of Google maps as it was so useful for travelling. However, since the most recent update I've noticed an annoying bug. When you click a business it comes up with reviews from the previous business that you pressed - not the current one. I.e. it does not update. Very annoying - please fix.
Update: I have cleared the cache and restarted my phone as suggested. Unfortunately, the problem still persists. When you click on a few locations, all show the same review as the first location that you clicked. In order to see the relevant reviews for the current location you have to close the app but the issue then repeats. Prior to the recent update it used to do the same for photos ie. It would occasionally show the same photos for different businesses when you clicked on 'photos'. However, since the latest update this has been fixed, but the issue now applies to reviews instead.

I used to use google maps as I felt it was super reliable but recently some strange things have been happening. Along a guided route it will randomly change your position as though you were half a mile away and subsequently reroute in error. Also, again while in a guided route if you search for an extra stop such as a petrol station, after the results come up it doesn’t let you return to the route guidance regardless of what you press on the screen. You have to close the app and relaunch and re-enter your original destination which is a pain to have to do. Sometimes when you want to search for a new destination the screen freezes on the map and nothing you press works. And lastly at junctions the screen starts to rotate as though it’s disoriented resulting in you being unsure of what exit to take. There are too many glitches google! Please fix as some of your loyal users will start to look for alternative apps that are more reliant like waze!

Whilst using the app once I have started the journey there is the status bar at the bottom of the screen showing the ETA and number of miles remaining etc. If I then touch the map to look ahead and see if there is traffic, or move to a different part of the map, or move the scale in or out, the status bar at the bottom disappears. The only way to get it back is to force close the app and enter the destination in again and start all over. Occasionally it will come back if The journey re-routes or search for something using the search button. But everything disappears including the re-centre button. This has been happening since the last update. I am running and iPhone 6S. I have the latest version of iOS and Google Maps.

After reading some of the reviews I feel compelled to also to write about my experiences with Google Maps.
I am currently working as a delivery driver and completely rely on Google Maps specifically for areas that I am not familiar with or have never been before.
Most of the time I can be navigated right to the front door of my sat nav journey but the biggest majority of the time Google Maps Satellite navigation system takes me in the exact opposite direction of where I want to go , it also has really big difficulties in connecting to its source and I find that I’m either being told to turn either ahead of actual turning point too soon or too late and then have to perform a complicated u turn on a really busy road , Google Maps is also very very guilty of taking you a longer route to the desired destination , and Google Maps always has me turning up and down streets on to roads of on coming traffic as it’s clueless to any of the one way systems in GLASGOW’s city Centers . I fell that Google Maps Satellite Navigation free app is not being updated or monitored enough and it’s just a matter of time before seriously injuring someone or killing them as road traffic is dangerous enough without an inaccurate liability thrown in to the mix of Glasgow towns busy road systems.

Google maps running behind other navigation maps

After all these years still no speed limit, also you need to ad more alternative route options so the driver can choose between rounds and not have the only route option by google, this used to be better with previous versions and I find it’s just got worse with updates, Google’s route option not always the best option. Also another thing to note is when music is playing google will mute the music completely for directions instead of heaving the option to just fade it like TomTom navigation which allows you to set the voice instructions as a percentage of the music volume, doesn’t need to be completely muted it’s just annoying. Common google sort it out, common sense here. For this reason you get 3* from me.

Sometimes overcomplicating it

This is the best map app so I use it the most. However sometimes routes me on a longer and more expensive ways to my destination than I would do so I need to evaluate the suggestion. For example: going to Heathrow airport terminal from Clapham Junction (London, England) it suggested to change from bus 285 to Piccadilly line for the last stop. Which would have been not much time gain but hassle to get off the bus and onto the tube and pay and more time for the tube. So needless to say it stayed on the bus. Another time the maps tries to route me through park where cycling is not permitted or the park is already closed for the evening. In these cases it's not simple for me to give feedback there and then. So some button would be nice in one corner of the map to give feedback on these inaccuracies of the map.

Worst navigation ever

Not just that it doesn’t show all the bigger routes that can be useable but don’t shows alternatives when you find yourself in front of a road close.
Stopped at a petrol station, and after it’s just changed the way and instead to take me home after a 200 miles drive it took me around the town from the other side of the city.
Also why the hell does the map starts to rolling around at a junction of the motorway, out of the town, on a difficult road just because the blue line that shows where you have to go crossing itself, so you are not jus unable to see the route properly but also have to improvise until it starts to work again and it gives you 10 minutes extra to your travel time.
Getting frozen and turns around just without any reason and shows you going to the wrong way
When you have to leave from a crossroads it’s freeze and not telling to turn to the right or to the left, but obviously you can’t wait until it’s fixed because cars behind you, so you turn into a road and than you will se that’s the wrong way so have to drive again extra time
When you need to move from a destination to another that’s actually like 200 yard behind you in a different street, this app not going to offer you to turn around but gonna drive you all around and drop you nearly where you just have been
It’s a terrible terrible app and caused me tons of stress while I was driving and I’m not going to use it anymore

Something has gone wrong.

I use google maps on most journeys, even routes I know well as I like to know the ETA.
Recently when I tell it to take me home, using my saved locations, its shows my home on the map, I tell it to start guidance and then it picks a random point on the map and starts directing me there. The other day for my 15min drive home it wanted to take me to central London, which is two hours away. Today it got me most of the way home before telling me to take a turning I don’t usually take, I followed it as I assumed it was because of some blockage ahead. By the time I worked out it was taking me to another random point on the map, I had driven for the 20 minutes estimated to get home only for me to discover I had been guided to a town half an hour from home.
This is an unacceptable glitch which could be considered dangerous, if panicked drivers try to make alterations whilst driving.
Please sort this bug out.

Great. But beware the ‘AVOID TOLLS’ option! 😡

Always rely on Google Maps when we’re in the US, and especially liked the ‘Avoid Tolls’ option when you’re in a rental car and don’t want a hefty admin fee from the agency for going through a cashless toll. However I discovered last week that it’s not reliable - drove from Ohio to Staten Island NY with ‘avoid tolls’ selected, no warnings/pop-ups to say anything to the contrary, only to find ourselves at a $15 bridge toll to get over to Staten Island. Turns out there is no way to avoid a toll on to the island, fair enough, but if that’s the case PLEASE GOOGLE can you give us some notification of this when we select the route? I could easily have gone to an ATM and got the money before we got there if I’d known, but the only mention of the toll is hidden away down in the route description, and the top of it still says ‘avoid tolls’. No warnings whatsoever. So I’m now looking at a hefty fine/admin fee that would have been entirely avoidable if the nav info had been more accurate. Yes I know that all New Yorkers are aware there’s a toll, but it was a last minute trip and I trusted google maps to just avoid the tolls if that’s what was selected, or tell me if it wasn’t possible.
For future updates, the difference between cash and cashless tolls would be useful info, so we could avoid cashless tolls, but use cash tolls, as that’s what most people out of state are worried about.

Weird stuff creeping in

I used to rely 100% on Google Maps but recently it seems to have become far less reliable. I’ve just been on a journey where I selected the optional route and pressed start and ended up on the default route anyway. Last week, the app took me off the motorway (leave at exit xyz) routed me next to the motorway (that was flowing freely) for 3 or 4 miles then put me back on. It then only flagged my junction when I was level with it so I missed it, then the alternative route that it said had a 4 minute delay, added 30 minutes to my journey despite me only being 3 minutes from the hold-up. My kids have started to make the same comments. Has something changed? Or has Apple done something now that they are finally trying to develop a decent map? I might be trying other apps anywayz

Please remove everything added to this update back to how the previous version was. This new "preview" element is the most useless thing ever. I don't want to "preview" I want to "Go". You are not able to use multi stop function any longer, only in preview mode which is terrible. The screen times out alongside iPhone screensaver rather than being on all the time whilst in the app like previously. The map has stopped automatically moving when your own gps point has moved and you have to manually move yourself (very dangerous if you're driving). It is hard to get it out of compass direction and to follow your own direction automatically. It has removed the ability to see arrival time has been removed, the distance and time to destination doesn't show in preview mode, the distance countdown to the next turn etc has been removed. I would like to navigate to multiple points, not preview them. Please change this!
