JUST DONT BOTHER
THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
Fantastic four were always my favourite but didn't watch version this til recently due to poor reviews. Surprised to find it is pretty good. Not their best but still an enjoyable film nonetheless.
It's absolute garbage never watch it. Ends when it gets goodish and it just is a poorly written
I am glad I only paid £4.99 for his... But have to say it's a dark move.!
If you come into this film thinking it will be a boring and stupid watch don't watch it. But if you come in with a positive attitude to the film it's a good watch. Sure it's not a master piece, but it isn't a train wreck.
It had a strong story line till the last 30 mins
They introduced the characters nicely
The last 30 mins are just rubbish, the actual end battle lasted around 5 minuets, victor was killed so fast I blinked and I missed it. I was very disappointed with this movie, and I won’t be watching this movie again. A complete waste of time! I was annoyed partly, because I had my hopes up that this movie would be great cause its a Marvel movie, and usually Marvel have a good standard!
Ignore the negative comments as its a smart movie with lots of heart.
If you want to see a Fantastic Four film that's likeable, the 2005 version has just been released on iTunes (yay!).
This version, based on the Ultimate Marvel universe, is... not as bad as the FF4 film that was never released. Some of the special effects do work and... yeah.
All in all, this is, in my opinion, a film only for completists, those who have the Star Wars Summer Special on their shelves. Seriously, go for the 2005 film. It's more enjoyable.
I hate it it's so rubbish DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
The whole film was so boring.
They've changed the story from the comics. The film is tedious until the ending and even then it doesn't make sense.
Not like the fantastic four that i know. the story line is so bad and doctor doom doesn't look like him in the comic books.
A remake with little to redeem it.
I watched the movie on Blu-Ray, I thought some of the scenes were good, like the race car scene with Michael B. Jordan, but some of the action stunts did not go well. I say it is a 2.9 out of 5 stars movie. I say it’s OK.
It so amazing I love it so cool but remember its a 12 so people don't no.
so bad do’t rent or buy
If you’re reading this you’re probably not going to like the film. If we recall the films target audience and what the FF comics were like, well, it does manifest the shallow, “WOW”-factor stories the comic was best at.
the Avengers and X-people and robocop may have gone for a layered plot that anyone can find something in, does everyone have to? Maybe 8-10 year olds deserve a movie of their own?
The Fantastic Four's biggest problem is that it's a bit boring and has no real third act. This movie would have been perfectly acceptable if it had come out pre-Avengers and especially Winter Solider.
In a relatively light comic book movie year (before the DC machine starts up in proper), this movie is no worse that the flat, by the numbers, carbon copy of its predecessor Age of Ultron. My big fear as the Marvel machine adds more peripheral characters, the less interest I can muster for their phase 3 (but that is another story). It is also on par with all of the X-Men and Sam Rami Spider-men films, the fan boys had written it off far before seeing it as they wanted it to bomb and the rights to revert to Marvel/Disney.
Michael B Jordan and Kate Mara are thoroughly watchable, Miles Teller isn't on top form (but then no-one is saying this is as good a turn as Whiplash was (nor should they)). These three actors carry the movie and it's in how they interact with each other that actual gems of goodness are delivered. However the less said about Jamie Bell the better, this movie is the Fantastic Four not the Fantastic Three and their wooden, CGI friend who has no place in being there both on screen and conceptually in the script.
Josh Trank functions as well as to be expected within the overbearing studio system and to big extend could share directing credits with the Fox executive comity that largely cases the biggest faults in the story. No matter how difficult the process was, Trank delivered footage that at least felt original. The sci-fi take on the superhero genre is a welcome avenue to take. As the saturation of super hero movies takes ahold, it's a breath of fresh air that someone is trying something different and that isn't just an action figure tie in and universe expanding with the sacrifice of the actual film (Iron Man 2, Age of Ultron and I have a horrible feeling it will be, Batman v Superman).
Don't get me wrong, this movie is not without it's faults, but it is by no means as bad as most are reviewing it to be (without even watching it often). Be a grown up and judge it for yourself.
Whilst I don't think this movie is up there with the X men or Avengers, the vitriol poured on this film is simply not justified - look back at some of the 70's/80s marvel disasters of hulk/Spider-Man if you want real dross. If this film suffers from anything obvious its that it is storyboarded and edited like a marvel Netflix *series* that has dozens of episodes to get to the point - then realises it's a movie , panics and tries to get everything crammed into the last 10 minutes.
But let's be reasonable, the acting is fine, the baddie is quite menacing, the effects are good and the twist that everyone isn't in love with each other from day one is a nice twist on more sugary versions of F4 - what is everyone complaining about? Are we simply the "zero patience" generation where if something doesn't blow up every 10 minutes it automatically makes the movie boring ...?
Sorry - I thought it was OK and I'd like to see it as a darker, bloodier series with a bit more complexity to characters and relationships that the typical pop tart sweetness of the early F4 - I wouldn't have killed off franklin storm either - there's lots more that could, have been done with that character ..
I'm clearly in a minority of one saying this film is OK and how it gets a rotten tomatoes score of just 10 is just laughable ...who did the director or the cast upset ..?
I have no problem with Johnny Storm being played by a black actor. Good on him. Why not make Susan storm black too? It would have made more sense than their dad collecting people and calling them his children. The thing had no connection with the group. Nuff said on him. Reed needs to get a grip and help his friends, not drop off the face of the earth. Nobody can get doom right. It can't happen. Well, I hope it will one day. If you want to know a true origin of doom, read books of doom. All in all, moral of this story. Marvel needs to buy back the FF. Although, they could do something with the future foundation?? Maybe that's a way marvel could save the FF franchise?
I honestly nearly didn't watch this due to all the poor reviews but so glad I did. Sure it's not Marvel at its best but I found it throughly entertaining. Just watch it in isolation for what it is , a good bit of fun for 90 minutes.
Unfortunately I can not award less 1 star for this catastrophe. I was told there was one joke in this film. I failed to even notice the attempt to keep you awake.
Pros- cover art
Struggling to fall asleep then a good watch
Cons - LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE
There are a few bad reviews but after watching it, it is good for what it is. The storyline good and the action is a little on the low side but it is an origin story right?
Put simply, this movie was rubbish, nothing like the previous two, which where good.
This film left me open-mouthed at its sheer awfulness.
Dull special effects, tripe story, boring acting...
A sadly unspectactular movie, with little to no action and just plain dull.
Not worth even the rental value, just plain Dire.
Set-up: I love sci fi movies, fun super hero movies and dark, gritty super hero movies, and general action/adventure movies. I’m not a Fantastic4 comic fan-boy, but I’ve read them every now and then, and I know the basics of the characters - but not wedded to the original view of them.
Opinion: Its just a horrible movie in every way. The reworking of the origin story is plodding, and makes little sense. The special effects are ok, Avengers level, but not spectacular. The whole mood is dark and dreary, and the pacing is just terrible. They made Sue Storm even less smart and decisive than the comic book did, and makes her an outsider of the boys club. There is a “fantastic” story to be told here, but this is a boring, gruesome, body-horror sci-fi. Re-watch avengers or guardians, or the recent star treks, or Outpost or They live! or the Thing (either one), rather than be bored and disgusted with this. Especially if you actually like the comic books.
Trying to think of any positives ....
The Thing suit is good, Human Torch flame effects good
Such a shame - a truly awful film
Static, uninspiring and badly paced film. The final fight scene is too short and is the icing on the cake of a completely underwhelming movie.
Nowhere near as bad as others would have you believe. It's not up there with Marvel's own movies (this was made by Fox) but it's worth a watch at least once.
seriously, just don't.
The worst film you will ever see, forget Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Simpson Movie, this is the lamest film ever concocted..
This is just as bad as what the critics say.
It's just so dull. It's nothing like the super hero movies around atm. I'd even sit through man of steel again rather than watch this c r ap and the man of steel was just god awful.
I'd say avoid this and watch something else.
Rubbish!!!!!!! Wasted my money & time
I was looking forward to this film but after spending 1:40 watching the film I was left wondering what was the point of all this... Good cast just a little work required on the story
Please do not waste you money on this film. Not sure why they felt the need to do a reboot of this film as the older version is not that old and actually much more entertaining. This film could have been good but lacked something. It does look like they have set it up for a second film but please could the film studios not fund this as it was dire.
As far as superhero movies go, I’m not hard to please for the most part. This… I just couldn’t find anything to like about it. The actors seem like they want to be someplace else. The “story” is a weak re-tread of what went before. The “villain” is absurd, not particularly threatening, and just unremarkable in every way. Maybe if it’s a in a dollar sale or something, but probably not even then. Avoid.
Let's put this the simple way I would rather watch paint dry then watch this piece of crap.
Dire. The sooner Marvel are handed back the rights to the FF the better. This film showed no understanding of the source material which could have been forgiven if it had been any good but it isn't.
this movie upset me because thy made such good ones in the past this was a massive dissapointment.
before watching this film i felt the press did it no favours but i decided to go watch it and decide for myself i thought it was a really good film with a good strong cast you should give it a try i watched it twice at the cinema :)
Better than the critics say, but not by much. It's still a very boring film. All of the action happens at the end of the film as well.
You know after all of the negative hype this is actually a good film I really enjoyed it. I don't know the comics but for me it's far better than the last two films.
This movie is a lot better than the critics say. The beginning and the middle are enjoyable, though the last third lets it down a bit.
Overall it's very easy to follow even for someone who doesn't watch superhero movies, however the villain fight is the biggest let down.
I'm hoping the older Fantastic 4 movies return to iTunes as I'm interested to see them now!
I went into this movie with hope and optimism and not put off by the negative light shone towards it. An hour and 40 minutes later, I left feeling empty and unsatisfied. Comic book films are supposed to make you feel inspired, but not this one. So what is wrong with it? One word chemistry. In any superhero team/ensemble there should be great character interactions and a feeling that these guys can effectively make a team, never mind a 'fantastic' team. The best team movies all have characters playing off each other as in the Avengers and X-Men. However, there is zero chemistry between any of the F4. We see an attempt at some early romance between Reed and Sue which doesn't go anywhere. Johnny Storm is billed as a genius but troubled kid however we never see why he has a high IQ, he is just shifted in to make up the numbers. We never see him form any sustainable bond with any of the others. Ben Grimm also appears as an outsider, brought in with little sense to the project to fill the final slot. The chemistry between the original F4 (2005) was much better where as here they feel like 4 individuals. The climatic battle takes place in the most boring environment that you can imagine. It is over within 10 minutes, with not much ingenuity to overcome a half decent attempt at Dr Doom, who at first seems very intimidating. This film will be quickly forgotten and the question isn't whether a sequel will be made or whether it will cross over with X-Men, but is the original Fantastic 4 film a better watch than this depressing, dull comic book movie!
