Description

Song of the Sea tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse - the last Seal-child - who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea. The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea but become humans on land.

One of the most beautifully animated films I've ever seen.

Absolutely superb animation. It's more than a Celtic legend - it's one of humanities legends/stories that many people will be moved by.

Miserable film with a very sad ending

This film was an utter disaster. It was miserable right from the start when the mother appears to die in childbirth to the end when she magically comes back but then leaves them again, children crying as she goes. My daughter sobbed for literally hours afterwards and now doesn't believe me when I tell her cartoons will be ok in the end. Thanks a lot.

A breathtaking achievement

Feels like you could pause the video at any point and hang it on your wall. Films like this are a gift.

A magnificent second film from Tomm Moore and Cartoon Saloon (after The Secret of Kells - which was also Oscar nominated).
Simply stunning!
