Avoid this film. It looks like it was filmed in a park and the story is beyond absurd.
Expert mountaineers Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) and Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal) lead rival expeditions to scale the highest peak on Earth, Mount Everest. Their quest becomes dangerous when the fearless climbers collide head-on with one of the fercest blizzards in the mountain’s history. Faced against impossible conditions, the limits of human spirit and physical endurance are put to the ultimate test in an epic struggle for survival in this chilling, edge-of-your-seat thriller based on actual events.
I really enjoyed this film. Kept me gripped all the way through 👍🏻
There is very little action there is the same story rolling on. However it shows the risks of climbing Everest, so there is a lot of death and drama.
This film takes about a hour to get interesting and when it does its not to great. If your impatient I recommend starting around the 1 hour mark.
I've read the book many times and loved the movie!
This film was awful. I am stunned by the 4-star reviews. I continuously hoped for some action, or a dramatic turn of events, and ended up devouring a pizza, two packets of crisps, a 2L bottle of ginger beer, and a bowl of tomato pasta waiting for some semi-stimulation. Nothing. The ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhhs’ you see in the trailer is about as much as you’re going to get. Don’t waste your money. Thank God I only rented it in SD.
This film was incredible, if you are thinking of buying or renting, just know this is genially one of the best films I've watched, so watch it!!
Good film the best yet I have been up Everest 8 years ago just like the film but we was all save 👍. Big John
Brilliant film! ,one of the best films I've seen in a long time.
Ok not what I expected but enjoyed it.
thoroughly enjoyed this film. the suspense sequence was immense and jaw-clenching, i can count on one hand how many films i’ve cried in and i had to fight back the tears for this one. amazing performance from the cast. i believe this is a film that everyone over 12 can watch, not only for the thrills but to witness the sheer determination and the lengths that human beings go to conquer a mountain aware that their bodies are dying, literally. also what is sad but true, the selfishness the climbers have. must give keira knightley kudos for her kiwi accent. you’re in for a climb of a lifetime guys, but without the hefty expedition fee.
Loved the film. Worth watching for sure
Great movie if you’re interested in climbing or enjoyed the book into the book Into Thin Air. Does the team justice and paints all in a positive light. Truly a tragic day on the mountain. Really shows how chaotic it can be up there.
Should have stuck to watching the trailers
Enjoyed this much more than I’d expected. Obviously not completely ‘true' since we can’t know what really happened if none of any particular sub-group returned. But knowing the outcome doesn’t spoil it any more than watching Titanic! Worth a watch.
Thanks for telling me the end of the film, can't wait to watch it now!!!!!
This film bores and drains you, as you don't know what's quite going on. Very predictable that something bad is going to happen in the film when the story is about an expedition to the top of Everest?! The twist is unexpected and depresses, leaving a sad ending. Not my type of film because it is particular boring and depressing'! Conclusion: 2.5-3/5, Because it is based on a story! Or this film would have been a complete utter waste of time making this film! Boring story line! And if not based on a story then this film would have got a 2 star for CGI/FX and acting. Not a must watch! If your on a plane and the movies on it, then you can probably bare to watch this.
Good film, worth a watch, it has motivated me to never climb Everest.
Surprised how many people go on about spoilers given its a true story about this tragic expedition in 1996. The filming and colours - landscapes are magnificent ! I bought it knowing the outcome.
Not bad very watchable
Really enjoyed this film. I didn't know the full details that it's based on. Good thriller, rooting for all and didn't know who would survive, very good movie.
Surprised how good it was. Based on a true story which is well documented so obviously no surprises.
Not much suspense, very predictable, and depressing....
Having read John Krakauer's book, I was very interested in watching the Hollywood re-telling of this disastrous story. The real life version is so dramatic, the script writer really didn't have to over work it. Tense, thrilling & heart breaking, an excellent portrayal.
As always, there are two sides to every story and the truth somewhere in the middle, that aside this is an excellent movie.
Exceptional film that delivers a gripping account of a true event. A slowish start but Josh Brolin gives his best performance. I am still thinking about the film some two days later such is its impact. Emily Watson is brilliant. No brainer.
This film is slow to start, and with the exception of the superstars, the acting is surprisingly bad. Also, the end was sad, and I did not feel good when the credits started rolling up :( I would rent and not buy this - I don't want to watch it again
I wasn't too sure if I was going to enjoy this film or not. I couldn't get into it at first but thoroughly enjoyed it once it got going. Now I can't get it out of my head.
This is a great film that draws you into the world of the mountaineers and the dangers they face. However, the star of the show is Everest itself - beautifully filmed and the cinematography is exceptional throughout. Some elements of the narrative has been challenged by others who were at the top on this fateful expedition but don’t let that put you off - as I read the various accounts the film has it broadly right. What is undoubtedly true is that you have to be very tough to survive at those altitudes even when conditions are good - when things turn bad it’s a battle to survive that few win.
I suppose you can guess more or less what is going to happen in the film but it was still great to watch.
Really enjoyed this
Please note that the other reviewer "Luciefilm" gives the ending away in their review. So if you don't want to know the ending, please avoid their review. I haven't seen the film yet, because like you, I was reading the reviews. Now I know what happens in the end. Thanks Luciefilm!
Pretty good film in terms of drama... just didn't quite hit the mark for continuity or pace though. Worth a rent, but not really a 'buy it' movie.
It isn’t just like any movie its beyond amazing the way the actors are but the fact its all based on a true story is amazing since seeing them I am so curious about mt everest though it is very factual too the information about it
I would happily see this over and over again its truly brilliant!!!
Don’t worry no spoilers i promise.
Fantastic and truthful film, doesn’t disappoint at all. A must see film which incorporates a very strong cast which makes this film work.
Pretty sad ending, slow to get going and of course predictable but a good movie showing that sometimes when things seem very close its a high price to pay for breaking your own rules.
I went to the cinema to watch this film, and I absolutely loved it. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but me and my two friends loved it! Josh brolin was really good I'm it ❤️
