Description

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan and producer Jason Blum welcome you to Universal Pictures’ The Visit. Shyamalan returns to his roots with the terrifying story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day.

Well Worth a Watch

The Visit is a recommendable movie, though it isn’t the scariest movie that I have ever seen before it is nonetheless scary. Is it as scary as The Woman in Black? No, but I found it incredibly chilling and I enjoyed watching it. Nothing like a good scary movie to entertain the audience. I have only given this movie 4 out of 5 stars because I was expecting more of a scary atmosphere from this movie. In certain scenes, the fake grandparents were just too normal for my liking. If they were oddly scary in every scene then maybe I would have given The Visit 5 out of 5 stars. However The Visit is nonetheless a recommendable scary movie to watch.

Return of the great

At first weary of a trail of disappointing M Night Shyamalan works coupled with a tired genre, I entered this experience with trepidation. However, the film delivers at all levels - the teenage daughter wanting to find absolution for her emotionally damaged mother, the young boy trying desperately to be The man in the house with some cringing and hilarious results, the bizarre estranged grandparents. The story starts slow enough to give insight into their lives and builds a rather beautiful picture of children discovering their roots. Some moments are painfully drawn out but for the good of the film. At times scary, heart-warming, tense and at times annoying too, the film moves through the week of the visit. All in all I am seeing why I keep watching Shyamalan's work - if only to find a gem like this one.

TERRIBLE

A cat with a camera strapped to its back would create a better film than this. Im a film producer of 16 years and love all films. This is badly acted. Fake performances. Dreadful.

Not the best and not the worst.

and far one of the best horrors I've watched that's actually realistic. Slow burn the the bitter end. But with many twists and turns and a very good storyline. Okay--Acting. Creepy and weird but understandable at the end.
Conclusion: 3-3.5/5
Must watch if your into horror films! One of the good ones!

Nana and Papa

Being a fan of M.Night I was drawn to this. The legacy of Sixth Sense and The Village still give him kudos. The film has a nice look and is in the main filmed by one of the characters who is making a documentary. This approach takes nothing away from the quality or narrative. There are oddities but this only adds to the suspense and the scares are the omnipresent throughout. This is a great fright night movie and highly recommended!

His worst film

First things first - don't believe the trailer. After watching that I was really looking forward to this coming up on rent. Which is what annoyed me the most after watching it - I felt cheated.
Key issues I had with it: (1) terrible acting (especially the kids and mum) (2) weak script (no it's not funny at all) (3) slow pace (4) no real build up to the inevitable twist that is expected from this director.
This storyline had a lot of potential but just seemed to fail in every way. I was actually annoyed when it finished that I had wasted my cash and time watching it.

mr

The worst film i have ever seen .This is by far the worst film M.Night Shyamalan has ever made and how can someone that made the Village , Signs ,Unbreakable and Sixth sense make such crap . For god sake stop making films where the cast has a camera and you are watching it though them filming it . If i ever see Mr M Night i would ask for my money back.

Predictable & tedious

You know there's going to be a twist - it's what this director does, after all - but you can see it coming a mile off. And the performances... Suffice it to say, they're irritating beyond belief.
Definitely one to avoid.

Please read me - for your own good

This is probably the worst horror film I have ever watched and I am not over exaggerating. Acting - laughable
Story line - had no interest as it was terrible
Scare factor - zero, just some old woman running around a room and some dirty nappies in a shed (and being shoved in a kids face). This is before I even mention the kid rapping 7mins into the film about pineapple upside down cake.
I'm taking the time to write this to spare anyone else spend £4.50 on renting it cus I feel cheated. This director has completely lost his way.
Please for the love of God, don't do it

Truly Awful

Just terrible in every way.
I'm not quite sure what it's trying to be but it isn't scary, isn't funny and isn't a good story. And good lord is the boy irritating beyond belief..another one of the 8 going on 18 performances that just doesn't work at all. Avoid and save yourself a few quid.

Very very good

Brilliant movie although quite gross towards the end which adds to the weirdness of the movie. Best watched with lights off and a surround sound system on high.

Great movie

Again mr. Night keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. Until you know the plot of the movie. It was a very good plot, lots of twists impossible to stop watching. It was also not to scary, so even my wife was interested.

Shyamalan's greatest

I loved this film. It was tense, funny and had a heartwarming ending. It also used the found footage idea very well because there is no music unless the characters are playing it and no sound effects for the jump scares (there are 3 at my count and one VERY scary one). There are only two minor problems that I have about this film and those are:
1. The introduction to the studios name is very scary.
2. (I won't spoil anything but) towards the end there is a scene where the daughter will film something, pan away, then pan back and that person will be closer. For me that felt a bit forced.
Otherwise great film
