This film is a total experience. Rivetting and intelligent from start to finish. Darkly poetic and beautiful in all its horrors. A must see. Feels like an independent movie but with a decent budget. Awesome Awesome Awesome 10/10
Leonardo DiCaprio stars in this visceral, epic adventure inspired by true events from writer-director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. While on a hunting expedition in the uncharted American wilderness, Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) is attacked by a bear and left for dead. Despite unimaginable grief and betrayal by his confidant (Tom Hardy), Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live.
I'm a great fan of Leanardo but this is not his best (he is good), the problem is more the storyline and the impossible number of times he survives when anyone else would have died a long time ago. The story has to be believable (unless you're going into sci-fi genre) and sadly this isn't, far from it.
For too long the scenes and stories remain the same, I'll not be watching it again as it proved to be a waste of 2 1/2 hours. I've rated it ok because the acting was good, some of the techniques used were impressive but the story line, oh boy failed big style there.
Amazing film and Leonardo DiCaprio FINALLY won an oscar!!
I'm sorry to say that whilst I paid money for this film, I now wish I hadn't!! The film plot was genuinely poor and at times difficult to follow. It's ways the same - the more a film is 'hyped up' the poorer it is - when will I ever learn!
This story is that of mankind. The strugle is real.
Shockingly awful. Don't bother to watch this. An arty, farty load of nonsense. Deeply 'meaningful' shots of trees, unintelligible dialogue and a truly dreadful, boring plot. A complete and utter waste of time.
Good film but not my favourite DiCaprio film. His Oscar was more than deserved and the film was very good and as always his acting was without fault. Also, Tom Hardy is amazing in this film. The film does drag a bit at times and could have been a bit shorter, but a great watch all the same.
100% would recommend! The graphics are great and seeing Leonardo DiCaprio fight a bear was awesome!!
Fantastic film, the type that you get completely immersed in from beginning to end and then wish you could start again with the same experience - brilliant.
I was expecting another long, dull and boring major motion picture, however, as a surprise it is now one of my favourite films. I agree with some people who say it is too long and there is not enough happening. BUT the scenery, acting and general plot makes it a 5 stars from me
The cinematography is incredible. Brilliant acting and encapsulates how tough it must have been.
It is saddening to come across so many american films that seem to have a central theme of violence, but despite this, it is worth seeing this film. The cinamatography is beautiful and characters very believable. The plot does feel somewhat unoriginal, frontiersmen and injuns aka dances with wolves but this is a darker film, more akin to a gritty western set in a bleak winter wilderness.
This is a good film, no doubt about it. It is well shot, good actors etc. But it is long. Too long. Go make yourself some dinner, do the ironing, read a book. You will not have missed anything as the film is so slow moving.
Read the book...couldn't put it down. Cant recommend enough. Film doesn't follow the book and is disappointingly poor. Awful CGI...Deer and Buffalo especially...like something from a bad video game.
Cancer is probably more fun. Dull beyond belief.
Great movie and great acting, also great scenery.
A bit of Rambo III first aid treatment with the gun powder and Empire Strikes Back survival tactics by finding warmth inside the stomach of a dead horse.
But overall it's a great movie to watch about the power of the human spirit.
This film is beautifully filmed and the acting is exceptional, as much as I wanted to enjoy it on some level I could not. I would not recommend anyone to buy this film so I gave it 1 star, it may be unfair based on its artistic merit but a film like this should draw you in and make you feel for the characters. I am a little tired of gritty, visually beautiful and shocking films. This could have been a great film, but I would not watch it again and I regret purchasing it. I also found the whole film a little pretentious as if it was hinting at hidden depths all the time, it may deserve an Oscar but for overall enjoyment it scores very low. Just watch last of the Mohicans instead!
It took two sessions to get through this movie. The storyline is thin and predictable to say the least. The movie also borders on fantasy as no one that badly injured and with no food who is sleeping on the ground in sub zero temperatures would live more than a few hours at most. Anyway, watching someone continually crawling through the woods moaning is not my idea of entertainment. Leo, dressed in the bear skin, looked more like a bear than the bear. This film is not entertaining and not very educational either. In fact, I can not see the point of it at all. There are some nice shots of the mountains though. The other issue that totally wrecked the movie for me is the fact that I could not understand half of what was being said. Either the characters mumbled into their extensive facial hair or spoke with an accent that I could not make out. And the subtitles appear for about a nanosecond and so do not offer much to assist one with understanding what is going on. I am so glad that I did not buy this film and only wasted £3.49 instead of £9.99.
Easily one of the best films I've seen, The Revenant is an amazing film! From the story, to the music, to the realism, to the cinematography, the list just goes on and on! I would highly recommend anyone to watch this film, it is just amazing!
Beautifully shot, stunningly colour timed, editing was totally on point. Story was engaging enough, but for some reason I was utterly bored by it all. 😩 Dunno why but it took 3 tries to get through it.
Not really sure what to make of this film. It's not rubbish, but not great. I think it's one of those films you have to watch again before making your mind up hence a 2.5 star rating is fair.
Don't listen to the people that say this is a dull film, it's absolutely fantastic, it never stops moving, Great production, great direction, great action, great graphics, great acting, great storyline, what more does anybody want!
How on earth did this thing win an Oscar? It had some nice visual moments but so few, mostly two and a half hours of predictable lazy script writing and shear boredom! If you must, wait until it's free and save your money.
Seriously! This is without doubt THE worst Oscar winning film I have ever seen. Even the Bear is rediculous. Most of the film spent on all fours (not the bear!) Overindulgence, pointless.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. These are hours in your life you can never ever get back.
Load of auld nonsense.
More lives than a cat...
This film does not hold back on the gore and harshness of the American fur trade. From the opening scene to the end it's hard going but the cinematography and acting is top drawer. Yes it's very very long and at times you want them to get on with it but it's worth a watch.
Personally having seen at the cinema it ls really one for the big screen not the Saturday night blu ray player
Watched for about 45 mins then turned it off.
Beautifully shot, great musical score, bit average on everything else. Did not live up to the hype.
I seem to be the only one with this opinion, but while I'm glad I've watched The Revenant, I found it overhyped, overlong and a bit tedious. There were a few absolutely breathtaking moments that had me transfixed - mostly near the beginning of the film. Technically, visually and musically the film was gorgeous, and all of the actors did a fine job, but I felt it was let down by the stories and the characters. The baddies (or really the one key bad guy) was so out and out meant to be hated with no redeeming features, and the protagonist was such a saint, that the whole thing seemed contrived and I didn't care for either of them. So when the film goes on an unlikely random tangent into saving-an-Indian-princess terriotory I just got bored.
Give Leo a salbutamol inhaler please. I found this to be duller than Hateful Eight - didn't think that was possible. But the makers of this film have surpassed themselves in delivering the most boring film ever made
This film was definitely worth a watch if you're the sort of person who appreciates how films are crafted etc but the central element to the plot is a bit disappointing (the thing that motivates the main character) and Di Caprio is great but this is certainly not an Oscar worthy role. Gripping in many places but griping too.
Alejandro Gonzáez’s take on Michael Punke’s book is visually spectacular. DiCaprio’s character Glass, battles against native American’s and the elements, to get his revenge on Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). A great performance, though one untypical in its lack of dialogue being more body language than script. Never-the-less it’s consistently strained and fitting for such a tortuous endeavour, enhanced by Sakmoto and Dessner’s haunting music. Meanwhile, we get to immerse ourselves in the spectacular scenery of the Americas, and you really do feel the cold of the wilderness, enhanced as it is by the icy blueness of Emmanuel Lubezki’s naturalistic cinematography. Shot in Canada, The USA, Mexico and Argentina this is truly a Pan-American epic…
This is an incredible film, stunning cinematography.
Harsh but beautiful locations, an absolutely enthralling experience that captivates you throughout!
Please be aware this is an ‘arty’ film, it’s not trying to be an action/thriller. A legend’s tale in a fascinating time in american history, brought to life through amazing cinematography, music, quality acting and attention to details of that period. The storyline is a very simple, linear revenge tale, but it’s much more than it seems as you follow his path of emotions and dreams, digging deep into questions of our human nature and place in nature. This movie is a display of talent and a new way of film making, a feast for the eyes, ears and soul. I have seen nothing like it.
Perhaps I need to watch this again, however, this film didn't quite live up to the hype in my opinion. I was very much looking forward to watching it too.
Stunning cinematography, Stella acting considering the conditions. 5/5.
This is the best movie of 2016. I think Leo won the Oscar because of the revenant it is Leo's best performance. Good watch and I was on the edge of seat all the way through. The lack of dialogue is why this movie works so well.
Mono-tonal misery told at crawling pace. Bear scene tho.
Best film for 2015,Leonardo Dicaprio and Tom Hardy are awesome..... Perfect.
Everything about this movie is beautiful - literally and metaphorically (some scenes are NOT pretty😂). But the acting is astounding, the cinematography is stunning and the entire movie is just spectacular. YOU GOTTA SEE IT!!!
Thats all I have to say Forest!!!
This movie cannot get any better. The director did and astounding job and the actors played their roles perfectly. The shooting had such a deep pull. In a way, you feel as if you were in the movie itself.
Honestly it was tiring...he's crawling trough half of the movie, directors must have liked the Wolf of Wall Street scene a lot !
Honestly, wait until available to rent if you really need to see it.
Forget good looking, makeup persons.movie like no one in 2015/2016 . Be ready for something realistic, dramatic, beautifully set from love, life, dead and fight to be alive !
How can this get Oscar nominations a film for a films sake
Good but kinda gets boring 😔
Rip rawing! Lots of tension! Bear fight awesome! Revenge!!!!
Ambling plot that fails to live up to the hype.
