Having been to Kennedy space centre 3 times it reinforced my interest in all things about space exploration
When Apollo astronaut Gene Cernan stepped on the moon in December 1972 he left his footprints and his daughter’s initials in the lunar dust. Only now, over forty years later, is he ready to share his epic but deeply personal story of fulfillment, love and loss. Cernan’s burning ambition carried him from a quiet Chicago suburb to the spectacular and hazardous environment of space, and ultimately, to the moon. Five years in the making, The Last Man on the Moon unveils a wealth of rare archive, and takes Cernan back to the launch pads of Cape Kennedy, to Arlington National Cemetery and to his Texas ranch, where he finds respite from a past that refuses to let him go. Sharing home movies, scrapbooks and intimate moments with his closest friends and family, he brings his spine-tingling experiences to the big screen more vividly than any moonwalker has done before.
I didn't like this film initially, the subtext was egotistical and bloated and too much focused around the 'American Dream', and ultimately cliched and jingoistic from a Brit perspective. However, the film played on my mind for some time afterwards and I guess my lasting impression is much more humanist, a point in time for our species and it's ultimate destiny. The structure seemed to accidentally explore our strength of self determination that affects us all, both then, now and in the future. Pleased I watched it now.
This is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.. It is a real bonus to have an Astronaut like Eugene Cernan taking you through a personal account of the early years of Moon exploration and the sacrifices he had to make to achieve his ultimate goal. It has tons of personal footage and photographs. the viewer feels they are taking the journey with him .
This is a must see movie …..everyone should see it …. I loved it.
what a Fascinating piece of work.
This is a must see movie that engages on so many levels from start to finish
An excellent documentary that touches on aspects of life as can only been seen through the eyes of someone who has walked on the Moon.
Good when he's on the moon. Tideous when he's on his farm. First man on the moon is better
Absolutely beautiful documentary, a must see for everyone.
This is the best documentary film l have seen in decades , I know gene is unlikely to read these reviews but on the off chance you do read this , Sir , it has been an honour to watch this movie , l cannot say that you are an American hero , it doesn't do you justice , you are a hero of humanity . I know you will not agree with that but your life has been such an adventure with all that comes with it , Thankyou for your allowing us to experience just a small glimpse into an astronauts life . God bless
I fell as sleep seen better a wast on cash 👎👀
Really worth watching, very informative and moving. Incredible footage of space, that first film of Captain Cernan trying to make his way around the outside of the space shuttle as it hurtled through space with the cord whipping about, reminiscent of the film Gravity. Feel much closer to these events through the portrayal of this mans extraordinary life. Excellent
A must see for anyone interested in the Apollo missions. This documentary takes Gene Cernan back to the places and people who played such an important part in taking him and his fellow astronauts on a journey and career we can only wonder at. Highly recommended.
Great film about a great man. Highly recommended.
This is not just a documentary it's a movie. Try and see this film on the biggest or best screen possible with the best sound available and sit back and enjoy.
This lovely film tells the story of Gene Cernan from a very human perspective. You do see his three space flights - told through archive and wonderful special effects. You also experience his personal journey - with family and friends - across tragedy and success. Beautifully shot and with a great sound track. Really enjoyed it.
One of the best documentary I've seen!
Amazing story about an amazing, and his life. Highly recommended
