I went to see this in the cinema and good grief was it rubbish.
No story, no plot, no reason to make the film. Save your money, get another film.

Very disappointed.

Even a great cast coild not save Hail, Caesar rambling on with not real sense of dirction. I am a bif Cohen brothers fan but they do seem to have lost their way with the last couple of films

Really?

Is it wrong of me that I think most of the people that have written overly-positive reviews for this enjoy the smell of their own farts? :/

Amazing film, but art not just entertainment, not a popcorn movie

This is an wonderful, thought provoking film. Scenes in it will stay with you long after you watched it.
If you know movies and start from the 50s that will help - Singing in the Rain, South Pacific, B movie westerns, Ben Hur. Esther Williams, Danny Kay, and Victor Mature.
Some knowledge of McCarthyism helps too, but most important this film does not spoon feed the viewer, but even if much of it does not make sense the first time round, it is an amazing trip.

Confused film

Sure there is brilliance in there somewhere, probably the way the film was made. Definitely not a film if you want to sit down and just enjoy a good story.

Saw this with my family (inc 2 teens) at the cinema. Had read positive newspaper reviews but we all came away disappointed and with a sense of missed opportunity re the storyline. Wished I hadn't bothered.

Absolute rubbish. About as funny as herpes. I'm surprised so many people put their name too it. Not a single laugh. It's a tragedy, a travesty, a complete waste of time.

What a shame!

Missed opportunity. Great cast, great writer/directors. But it just doesn't take off. It's neither captivating nor entertaining. It's just plain waste of time.

Garbage!

Every minute that passes in this film, you're thinking "WHY am I watching this?" - I managed 20 minutes before turning off.

This film is light hearted and a bit quirky and is unlikely to appeal to those who have gorged themselves on violent films. The acting is good as are the actors. A relatively subtle parallel is drawn between new testament christianity and communism - although the would be communists largely bungle everything due to being overly intellectual and lacking in pragmaticism - which also speaks volumes. It's not brilliant but it is worth a butchers hook.

Simply Brilliant!

I loved this film. It's beautiful, witty and well written. Classic Cohen bros.
The continuous line of big name actors could get tiresome but each has a purpose in the narrative and every role is delivered with style.

To be fair I can only comment on the first 20 minutes of this film as I gave up after that, couldn't subject myself to any more.

Having only seen the poor reviews, I still decided to give this film a try - and I'm glad I did. The main story could certainly have been stronger, but the sheer style and attention to detail in recreating the set pieces of 1050s Hollywood is just stunning.
Worth a watch for that alone, and I'm willing to give it another try to see if the story works any better second time around.

A surprising comic look at the hight of hollywood in the 1950's clever directing, casting and production combine to make a beautiful experiance. Submerge yourself in the depths of 1950's Hollywood stardom and embrace a camp and enjoyable romp through yesteryear.

Terrible!!!!
