A lot of heavy breathing and not much dialogue but strangely compelling.
In a kill-or-be-killed world where starvation is rife and strangers are always dangerous, The Survivalist lives off the grid, and by his wits. When a starving woman and her teenage daughter discover his forest refuge, his loneliness drives him to overcome his suspicion and strike a bargain with them in return for bed and board. But as desire becomes stronger than necessity, the exchange becomes an uneasy, ongoing arrangement which threatens not only his carefully constructed world but also his life. The Survivalist is a captivating thriller from Stephen Fingleton and features performances from Martin McCann ('71, Shadow Dancer, X+Y), Mia Goth (Nymphomaniac: Vol. II, A Cure for Wellness) and Olwen Fouéré (This Must Be the Place).
Wanted to see this when it was on general release but did not get the chance as it had a limited release - well worth a punt if you like gritty post apocalyptic/dystopian type films - in the vein of films like The Road.
Great movie enjoyed it will watch again. It keeps you guessing good acting as well makes a nice change from another wasted tenner.
Uneventful, not entertaining. Not a lot else I can say since there wasn't much in the film.
Really really bad. Trailer looked OK, rented it and it was definitely not my sort of film. I'm trying to be polite but this has little plot, no action, no dialogue and is as boring as it gets. The standard of acting was good but that's all it has going for it.
Only small minded people looking for Bruce Willis and big explosions would dis this film
Well acted, original storyline but ending leaving one with an overwhelming desire to call the Samaritans.
Really disappointed! Had some credit on iTunes and reading previous reviews this sounded good, so thought I'd take a punt. Wish I hadn't as It really wasn't up to much at all.
blimey what a great film. really well acted .tense all the way through.i really cared about these characters .stunning really. and its stayed with me all week. couldnt recomend it highly enough.
A very good film
Fingleton is going to be a major director. Discover him here. And 3 stellar performances from McCann, Goth and Fouere
Fantastic nuanced performances by the cast made this a riveting watch
After hearing the great review on Radio 4 Front Row decided to download, and was not disappointed brutal an incredibly emotional and very impressed that it was the directors debut film. Would recommend.
Beautifully made film, must see!
