An awesome movie - Very humbling.
Inspired by the incredible true story, Eddie The Eagle is the feel-good British comedy of the year. Michael "Eddie" Edwards (Taron Egerton), is the unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself - even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach (played by Hugh Jackman), Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of a nation by making an improbable and historic jump at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. From the producers of Kingsman: The Secret Service, Eddie the Eagle stars Taron Egerton as Eddie, the lovable underdog with a never say die attitude. Adored by critics and audiences alike, Eddie is the hilarious comedy that will warm your heart this year.
If like me you are of a certain age (I was a teenager at the time this all happened) then you may or may not have memories of the events that this story portrays. This is a wonderful film with superb performances by Taron Egerton who pulls of some of Eddie's trademark facial expressions and the usual excellent performances we expect from Hugh Jackman whose supporting role around his unlikely friendship with Eddie is a joy to watch.
I had to keep reminding myself that even with artistic license, what I was watching was based on a true story. The underdog who just refuses to give up against all the odds and watching the film brought all of the hysetria around 'The Eagle' flooding back from my childhood.
Other notable performances from other great British actors like Jim Broadbent and Tim McInnery as the British Olympic committee and Keith Allen as Eddies long suffering dad really add to the feel of the movie, and right to the end even knowing the outcome I found myself on the edge of my seat willing Eddie to perform.
This is a proper family film, one that can teach everyone to never give up in your trials of daily life, to stretch for your dreams and never settle...
My favourite film of the year so far !
Wonderful heart warming film. I watched this guy as a teenager and riddiculed him. I joined the poisonous british press in laughing at him, I regret this greatly. This delightful film humbles me in admiration for one of the bravest most resilliant men I have heard of. Not because of great intellect or world beating skill but because of a beautiful, brave and stalwart heart. Eddie hats off you, Heroes do not always win gold. You won my heart today 30 years later. Awesome
Eddie the eagle is a great film to watch as a family it shows that if you belive in something never stop until you achieve it !😊
How come there are no subtitles? Surprised that in 2017, subtitles cannot be shown.
Great story, very well told.
I'm sure it's a good film but very disappointed to discover there's no closed captions for the Deaf and hard of hearing.
This is a recently released film so the technology is there to embed closed captions. Very poor show from the film's producers - especially British producers - that they've excluded deaf and hard of hearing people from enjoying this film.
Don't usually write many reviews, but this is such a great, feel good film. I was smiling from start to finish! If your looking for a film to lift your spirits, where dreams can become reality, then this is a must watch.
Watch it, love it.
Give the man a medal! Eddie the Eagle makes us feel proud to be British! But shame on the Olympic Committee for treating him so shabily!
Enjoyed this film for its humour and story. It is even inspiring to know Eddie followed his dreams through!
Great British movie that brings a tear to the eye ..
This film is a fantastic light hearted comedy, showing both Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman's diversity in acting.
Great watch. Easy watching and very comical. Great story and would highly recommend.
I loved this film! What an incredible story of an incredible individual! Highly recommend this movie. Just brilliant …!
Well acted and great story, even though Eddie himself said its not all true. Great feel good
Watch it, you won't regret it
One of the most amazing and inspirational stories ever put in a film. Fly high!
We cried with joy, laughed at the funny parts, fell in love with the characters and genuinely just loved this film. Such an amazing story.
What fantastic devotion by Eddie to overcome and succeed in his Olympic Dream. Fantastic story and shows if you are prepared to make the sacrifices and take the pain and come through it a winner, then life is worth the effort. Both actors played it brilliantly, best film I have seen for a long time, smiled through the whole thing. Thanks Eddie
Really great story, which i followed as a nipper. But this is a simple, simple film - and not in a good way. The script is lame, almost threadbare, and there's an excess of cheesy lines. Feel-good stories are great but there needs to be more to a film than this - some edge, some humour..something! It looked like there was no budget for anything else once Jackman had been paid.
Great film with a great cast. Basically about a guy that just doesn't give up and takes you on his journey
You'll laugh, you'll probably cry and you'll definitely feel uplifted. It's a fantastic story, very well told. It warms the heart. It's execution is perfectly stylised to suite its nature. What a wonderful film. The actors and production team deserve all the praise they receive.
Great film happy for him well done ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
For those old enough to remember, Eddie in 88 was a bit of a joke but this film, which isn't entirely accurate, is a heart warming reminder of what the Olympics is supposed to be about.
This film is about an individual beating the 'old boys club' to make a dream come true and is quite similar to Cool Runnings.
It's a shame they changed the rules to prevent inspirational stories like this happening again.
Definitely worth a watch.
Eddie the Eagle is on of the most humorous, energetic, heartwarming stories I've seen for a long time. Based on a true story it makes for a great evening entertainment.
The only thing I hate about the whole thing that it I PG and no children can watch it with their friends.
Really really enjoyed this, great performance from Egerton throughout, well supported by Jackman et al. There are a few laugh out loud moments but, happily, at no point are you made to feel you're laughing at the legend of The Eagle, very well done
Made me smile and laugh out loud!
This is an amazing film- really shows off the full extent of Taron's diversity as an actor. Incredibly inspiring.
What a film. Gives you that lump feeling at the back of your throat when you want to cry because it is such an inspirational and enjoyable film. Would tell everyone to give this a watch. Fly high 4/20.
When I first went to see the film I wasn't expecting much but I was astounded by how truly great this film is, a new favourite. Taron is amazing as Eddie and huge is great. Wonderful film and it definitely deserves more attention
Just loved this film. A great balance of humour and heart ache. Well acted and heart warming. It was lovely to see the back story. Made me look at Eddie in a whole new light. Inspiring!
Went to watch this in the cinema the other day and tbh was expecting to hate it. Im glad I went because this film is amazing and its a true story as well. Truly inspirational and motivational stuff :)
Lucky recipient of preview screening tickets. Had no expectations but was moved to do this review, as I am worried it won't get the plaudits it deserves. Truly a feel good film. From beginning to end. A film that you will be able to pop on when you down and smile. Excellent sound track.
