Description

From Director Justin Lin and Producer J.J. Abrams comes one of the best-reviewed action movies of the year. Dispatched on a rescue mission to the farthest reaches of space, the USS Enterprise is ambushed by Krall, a ruthless enemy sworn against the Federation. Crash-landing on an uncharted hostile world, Captain Kirk, Spock and the crew are separated with no means of escape. Only Jaylah, a rebellious alien warrior, can help them reunite and find a way off the planet in a race against time to stop Krall’s deadly army from triggering all-out galactic war.

Sci fi can sometimes balance on the edge of downright stupid and just about passable.
Star Trek Beyond was not only entertaining, it was also gripping and provided laughs from the whole family.
Sci fi will always follow the same sort of plot, but this was one of the best of a lot I’ve ever seen. So hats off to JJ Abrams, lets hope there’s another on the way!

I nearly didn't watch this as a result of some reviewrs. Personally I think that for such a long running franchise it's become impossible to please all the fan boys, all of the time i.e. those who insist it should be a representation of their particular favourite iteration of the theme instead of noticing the blatently obvious changes in all the series and films throughout it's tansition - THAT evolution is what it is and always has been. So many seem to rate it based on whether it is their particular brand of 'Star Trek' and not the film itself.
The film is the usual slightly cheesy action film with usual inplausiblities like all films but is interesting and entertaining. Best film ever? No. Worth a watch? Yes. If you're writing reviews like "Each of these "Kelvin timeline" Star Treks is worse than the last" learn a lesson from yourself and stop watching them you weirdos.

Each of these "Kelvin timeline" Star Treks is worse than the last. I'm not paying nearly £14 for Fast & Furious in Space. Hopefully ST Discovery series will breathe some life back into the franchise becuase at the moment it should be killed off.

I love Star Trek films but this was pretty awful. I could tell from the first 3 minutes it wasn't going to be good. But if you change the writers and director this is what you end up with.

Excellent film, but why is Anton missing from Itunes characters line up??!!!

Although I love all things Star Trek and this film is great, I feel its a little bit poor that Anton Yelchin is missing from the iTunes characters line up, not sure if this was intentional or just an oversight, but feel this should be rectified.

Awesome Film!!

Extremely happy that the BluRay came with an HD itunes code! Not many films in the UK do that which is a huge shame as my list of films on itunes would be massive if so. Loved Star Trek Beyond the whole trilogy is great and does not fail. I can't wait for the next installment!

They seem to have lost the plot a little with Star Trek these days, or perhaps they don't really have one beyond cartoon villains and laughable technical plotlines. It's a real shame, because they have a great cast with the new line up but they are let down by cliched storylines, an overreliance on effects and bad science. Boldly going badly where they have been before.

Another run of the mill Star Trek film. I'd just like to add that there is a bloke in Barcelona who can only speak Spanish who would do a better Scottish accent than Simon pegg.

The plot is paper thin and the script rarely sparkles. Too much Simon Pegg doing his fan-impersonation of Scotty. Krall's motivation is beyond weak and merely an excuse for the 'better together' propaganda that the film is attempting, heavy-handedly, to illustrate. The effects are ok in parts (space piranhas!) and Jayla is a fine amazon. The best bit is the shaggy-dog lead-up to one pretty funny punch line in the final showdown. Colour me unimpressed... and PLEASE keep Simon Pegg off script-writing duty in future - he's been promoted beyond his skill set.

Oh so poor

Just a very ordinary quick effort to squeeze the last dregs out of the Trek franchise. The crew travel to a strange land to meet an alien who has a very powerful weapon. With me so far? Good, cos that's ALL that happens. Oh apart from the fact there is a girl who looks like a badger. Yawn.

The movie starts of with what could be called a 'scale' joke – I'd guessed the weak gag before it was revealed and that really set the tone for the whole film. A big disappointment. I really enjoyed the first (reboot) Star Trek and watched it several times, it was so funny and entertaining. This has not one single laugh and the script is pedestrian. Spare me Montgomery 'Scotty'

This film tries hard to be Trek, but ultimatley just falls short. The story plot of this stories has more gaps in it than the average sponge, relying on huge coincidences (and characters just forgetting where they parked for a 100 years) to drive itl forward. While Pegg makes some good references to Real Trek, the odd good reference is not enough to save the terrible story. As with the last film this one is just a rehash of several good Trek Films cramed togeather: think Insurrection, Nemesis, Generations, Search For Spock.
The director gets one thing right: He treates the Enterprise as a character, one that we know, love and miss (or at least would if the previous films has been any good). However from there is all down hill: terrible sets, terrible action sequences and a generic waste of time.
Avoid if you love Real Trek or just good films. See if you like explosions and motorbike fights!

One of the worst plots and most of the scenes look like they could have been shot in basement pub or a goth club. Some decent CGI / special effects and capable actors but wasted on a boring plot and lack lustre script.

This might qualify as entertainment for those who like films with shallow plots and pointless action scenes. But it is most definitely not Science Fiction. Gene Roddenberry would not have written such drivel. This did not go beyond, it went beneath. The technical description would be guano.

Long gone are the days of tedious Star Trek movies with dialogue that bored you to tears - this next generation (punn intended) of Trek films is up there with the best action movies around. Great cast, great plot, amazing CGI, humour (much needed comedy in films like this), etc, etc. The geeky Trek enterprise (punn intended) has become mainstream and COOL which i'm sure will apeal to even the most devout Star Trek fanatics out there! Definitely worth watching and keeping an ear pointed (sorry) out for the next one... Enjoy!

As I couldn't watch the movie I can't really give a star rating. So for the time being I give 5 stars until I watch it, once watched will adjust the star rating. But my main concern is that it still hasn't been released in UK ITunes. It should be out on the of October in UK. But now it says 14th of November from Itunes UK. Cmon ITunes bring on the StarTrek for the fans in UK as well earlier. In US and other international ITunes stores it is already out. Why are you always delaying the release dates in UK? We pay more for the movies and get them later. Not really fair now, isn't it!!!

Dear Simon Pegg, how does it feel to know you have singlehandedly managed to destroy the Star Trek franchise? This utterly clownish disaster of a movie has probably ruined the careers of a number of decent actors - let's hope you are the first to go. The only thing I want to see you write next is your letter of apology to the millions of Star Trek fans who you have let down. Shame on you...

A real treat for anyone who is a Trekkie and who is not, keeping this in mind, its better than Into Darkness. The CGI is top notch. The action is a hoot, even though it looked real dodgy in the trailers.
Overall a real joyous hour and a half.

While Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness have their good qualities, Beyond is for me the best of the bunch. Notable lessening of lens flares now that JJ Abrams isn't on board (Star Wars can have them now). Simon Pegg has written a wonderful fan gilled script that the cast has performed with immense enthusiasm. They connect really well now in their 3rd outing and, with the saddening death of Anton Yelchin, I think I can say he would have been proud of this film as it really serves the purpose of a solo film for newcomers, a fan favourite for the 50th Birthday of the franchise and an amazing movie for film fanatics.

I don’t think I can bear to watch another Trek if Simon Pegg is involved. This film was utter rubbish from start to finish but when I found out Pegg wrote it that made sense. Pegg is single handedly destroying Trek! My 12 year old brother could honestly have written a better script. Watching this was worse than walking into a festival portaloo right after someone that’s eaten nothing but garlic lamb bhuna and 6X beer for a week - and being forced to stay in there for 2 horrific hours. Can someone please take Pegg’s writing things away from him before he does any more damage :-(

Say what you will, but I thought this was a great movie, slightly more in the spirit of Trek than the first two. Great humour and action, a good plot and stunning visual effects. I did feel that Yorktown was a little over the top.
Jaylah is definitely one of the highlights - she's a fantastic badass of a character. Kraal was a bit weak but he's still passable.
A let down for me was Spock. I thought he was portrayed as too human - there was just something off about the character throughout the film.
But overall, Beyond was fantastic. RIP Anton Yelchin, and thank you for your excellent portrayal of Chekov.

Definitely not up to the standard of Abrams' two films, seemed to be something lacking throughout. Some of the effects were outstanding but the little aliens at the start were a bit iffy, as were some of the Starfleet members, but the warp effect was cool.
Krall was a disappointing baddie, took too long to establish his reasons for bellicosity and I worked out the twist way before the reveal.
Spock and McCoy's interactions were some of the highlights of the film, and I couldn't help feel a little sad whenever Chekov was on screen. Jaylah was a good character, maybe she'll be seen in future movies (if there are any after this...)
All in all I wouldn't have minded so much if they hadn't fixed the projector when it conked out at the start..

Not the best one out of the three

Its an ok movie and worth a watch, but cgi is a little bad in places, i don’t think it has a good story line either, not as many one-liners as the first two, also you only get to see the Enterprise for about 10-15 mins and thats it, i like Simon Pegg but I think he should have left the writing to someone else?
