The glorious awkwardness of the office does transfer to following Brent's life on the road with his band - the trailer suggests this is just a money-making spin-off but for me, it really does hold its own weight. Definitely worth a watch.

I was surprised at how poor this was. I was / am a fan of The Office, but this was very poor. This film is almost like the cast-offs of David Brent lines and scenes from the TV series 15 years ago. The character has not changed at all in ten years. The Office has an ensemble feel about it, but Life on the Road had no development of the other characters. There were a few impersonations of the original cast. The film structure is 20 minutes of David Brent in an office environment, then an hour of him singing on stage or sitting in hotel rooms.

No matter how much you loved The Office, you will hate this. Without the brilliant supporting cast nor the writers, where The Office was excruciatingly funny, this is just excruciating.
The joke is that each gig becomes a nightmare - this is then repeated over & over again. Please, just don't.

I thought the TV programme was ok, but Gervais in general is a comedy legend, but you are left wondering what the hell that was and where we're the funny parts. It's a cringe fest of try too hard comedy making it not funny at all. If I was ill on the sofa with absolutely nothing else to watch then maybe, but not worth buying - watch it on amazon for free.

I think it's *bloody* hilarious

Can't believe I watched this . I loved the office but wow this film stinks worse than a festival porterloo and has more unfunny turds floating about in it. Such a shame . Ricky just isn't funny anymore.and that's what is cringemaking.

Unwatchable ............ I loved the office but this was dreadful. Netflix must be running for the hills. I tried to watch the Eric Banner movie - managed about twenty mins. Again terrible.I am told his stand up is brilliant so maybe thats where his career has to go now. How it got made is a mystery.

Pathetic - Warning

I am a big fan of The Office and Extras - Gervais has written and performed some masterful comedy, expressed with perfection, pathos and sensitivity exemplified masterfully in the Derek series he wrote and acted in. Sadly he has bowed to the pressure of appealing to the mass market and regurgitated the more memorable pieces from The Office and stuck them into a watered down celluloid version of David Brent. The film is frankly a high budget cop out that will no doubt make his UK fans feel short-changed. His band are unfunny, the jokes too simplistic and the songs barely make it... I am sure he won't lose any sleep...

Don't bother

I never write reviews but this has actually just annoyed me. The TV show was fantastic, the stand up was funny, the Radio shows and Pod Casts (which he has weirdly used content from) were hysterical were brilliant. This is just terrible. His film career has been nothing short of disappointing but you'd think being back where it all started would be his comfort zone, however sadly not. It makes you question how much influence Steve probably had with their previous work together and how much Ricky just injected the childish one liners.

It's the genius of Ricky Gervais that this film has you cringing, laughing, crying, feeling sad, feeling happy all within the space of 2 mins. Ignore the nay Sayers who just don't get it whilst pretending to be Office fans. This film is about trying, no matter how mundane you are, to reach your dreams. David Brent is obnoxious as always, blind to everything, but when he stops trying is when he is at his best. The songs are actually fun, and well written, and Mr Gervais shows he is a reasonable singer and guitar player. Rent or buy, but if you didn't love Gervais in the Office and Extras then don't bother.

I'm a big fan of Ricky's, but this was well below what he's capable of. I don't remember laughing once. There's no depth to any of the characters, the dialogue's forced and the acting's fairly average. I don't know how long it took him to write it but it seems like he did it in a rush.

I was really really looking forward to this as The Office is my most favourite thing ever. However, there's probably about 5 or 6 good gags. I really don't want to slate Ricky but you end up feeling really sorry for him & it just seems to be lacking hugely. Disappointed! You can see how much Stephen Merchants comedy influence is missing from this film. Still love RG, SM & KP!!! Xxx

Huge fan of The Office (UK version). This movie is a huge disappointment. I assumed I would still find Brent funny. I didn't. He isn't. The stupid high pitched weird laugh was funny the first time. But it is in nearly every scene. The songs are boring. And so are most scenes which usually contain extra's shaking their heads or walking away in disapproval. I read reviews prior to watching and hoped the negative results were just because the storyline was poor. Curiosity got the better of me. I had to see it. But if you are still curious, don't watch it. At least then you can still believe that this might be a funny movie.

Rent, don't buy it.

I was a big fan of The Office and was looking forward to seeing this but was really disappointed and gave up watching it ten minutes from the end because it was so uneventful, unfunny, dull, with some really tired rejigged jokes from the original TV series. I think that the decision to make this a standalone project, i.e. it does not feature the writing skills of Stephen Merchant, really didn't help the end product. On the whole the characters are as annoying as the series but no where near as likeable and the plot can only be described as weak.

Very few laughs and at times just plain boring, even Brent cannot save this film.
Where the office was able to rely on character relationships with Brent, this is a one man show lacking laughs and easily forgotten. For every laugh (of which there are about three occasions) we get too many scenes trying to make us feel sorry for the main character.
Stick with the TV series and avoid this if you want to be entertained

What a great reminder of how awful David Brent is/was. Ricky Gervais delivers the cringe-worthy dialogue and uncomfortable glances to camera in expert fashion. Brilliant stuff.

...at how poor it was. Gervais is a comedy god, but what was he doing with this? Brent lacks the energy and arrogance of old. It needed the support of goofs like Finchy, Gareth and Keith. It needed the context of the intimate, stale office environment like old. The band are boring. The songs dominate, yawn. Nobody cares about the tour. Nobody cares about the rapper and his reflective rap. We've seen all that in Derek. £9.99 in the bin.

Wanted to hate this

Used to love Ricky gervais but gone off him over the years. Really enjoyed this though, it's not perfect and it is a bit too forced when it's trying to make the viewer feel sad. Recommended if you've watched the show, kind of a follow on from the office Christmas specials.

I was so looking forward to this movie but 30 min into this and i felt like Why Why is this movie been made, I think its more to boost up Ricky Gervais ego than offer comedy at its best which is what the office was ...... Do not buy or watch

Tired jokes that just don't work anymore. Left me wondering why I found The Office funny in the first place, which has probably ruined how I'll view the series should I go back to it in the future. Avoid.

i adore ricky gervais but this film was a complete washout. it is sad from start to finish.
this film was released on my birthday and instead of cheering me up it made me cry so much.
apart from ricky the acting is abismal and the black fella is really bad.
its ok to watch but does not come near to the original.

Now I'm pretty much a super fan of the Office so was really looking forward to this movie. However, from the out set Ricky/David has this reeeeally annoying sigh/laugh (which was never present in either series of the Office). It starts at the beginning of the film and he literally does it throughout!
Take that away and it's ok, not a classic but ok. Wish it was a bit more Brent and a bit less Gervais....watch it you'll see what I mean.

Firstly I loved the TV show and still find it funny.'this however was really poor.
It's just not funny and comes across as more of a bullying documentary.
You really miss the characters such as Gareth, dawn, Tim etc.
Brent with his constant high pitch shrill just gets annoying.
Such a shame

We love this spin off from the office!- last night was our 3rd time seeing it at the cinema since its release last Friday!
We also attended the premiere in London- but unfortunately was to see the stars on the red carpet and not see the movie 😩
Fans of the office and Ricky Gervais will not be disappointed- just hope it's not another 10 or so years before his next return!
One disappointment was the Freelove freeway version used in this movie and soundtrack- the original was much better!

When it's good this is as good as The Office at its best, but the longer format does make it feel a little laboured at times. That being said the comedy is still of a high calibre, great moments where you laugh and cringe simultaneously, the style Gervais has perfected.
I felt the absence of characters from The Office (even though I appreciate they had no place here) as the vast majority of the funny bits come only from Brent, whereas on TV some of my favourite moments come from the interplay with Tim and Gareth et al.
Still, this a worthy addition to the Brent legacy, hasn't done the character any harm and fans of the TV show should enjoy this
