Description

Texas brothers Toby (Chris Pine), and Tanner (Ben Foster), come together after years divided to rob branches of the bank threatening to foreclose on their family land. For them, the hold-ups are just part of a last-ditch scheme to take back a future that seemed to have been stolen from under them. Vengeance seems to be theirs, until they find themselves on the radar of Texas Ranger, Marcus (Jeff Bridges) looking for one last grand pursuit on the eve of his retirement, and his half-Comanche partner, Alberto (Gil Birmingham). As the brothers plot a final bank heist to complete their scheme, and with the Rangers on their heels, a showdown looms at the crossroads where the values of the Old and New West murderously collide.

Yep, it’s awesome

Loved this. It feels to me like a slow beat mix of ‘modern’ Mice and Men, Sundance Kid and true detectives vibe. Its languid pace is more gripping than a hundred mindless action shoot ‘em up bank heists and you come away having added something to the sum of your experience. In so many films the obvious problems of 'debt' and 'banks' could have been a patronising moralising, but refreshingly here they aren’t. Masterful.

Boy you'd think there were 10 of me!

Stevie-R4y has no clue what a good film is.
This was great acting and pure entertainment.
Loving the crazy brother!

Could have been 5

Almost a classic film noir (despite the unremitting sunshine and aridity) but could have had a better ear for dialogue. Every now and then they should have just shut up - silence can take a film like this from very good to great. A great watch nonetheless - recommended.

Good Story

If you can ignore the misery reviewers and see this for what it is: a good story, rent it. A good night’s entertainment and a score by Nick Cave, which I only discovered because I watched the credits to the very end. Subject/Theme are not he point. Story is everything, mostly anyways..... Good job.
A fan. UK

Fantastic film - one of my top 10 of all time.

Mostly I rent films but this one I bought as I will probably watch it many times, really good film with brilliant cinematography and acting. Jeff bridges hasn't made a bad film in his career in my opinion.

Great Film

A fantastic film, plot and acting. The backdrop of debt and the landscape was also excellent - very good. Recommended.

Hell of a film!

It's a bit of a slow burner, but the character development is spot on, and it ramps up in the right places. Reminded me a little bit of Drive and The Guest, because of the music and pacing. Give it a go.

Really Very Good

Im not sure what I expected and it could have gone from a shoot out at every corner etc Instead it was a well thought out and delivered piece of acting and that included the scenary! One to savour as it is realistic, believable and compelling. It contains real acting!

Standard Issue Cowboy Movie

Jeff Bridges brings Rooster Cogburn into the 21st century and adds two parts of Tommy Lee Jones in No Country for good measure. This really is a pot boiler Western, with lawmen in big hats and bad guys robbing banks. Hell, there's even a posse and an oil strike on a fly blown no-value ranch. The Texas drawl is often so thick you'd wish for subtitles, mercifully the plot is delivered in semaphore so the frequently indistinct good ole boy mumbling is no obstacle. If you think you've seen it before, you probably have.

Wow Great Movie

My goodness living in the UK and seeing all that open Texan space is beyond belief. Acting magnificent. Story very different. Lots of suspense. Couldn’t really guess the ending at all.
Highly recommend renting this movie

A Very Good Film - well worth a Watch.

I really enjoyed this Film - and I'll watch it again - a thing I rarely do.
The main reason the production of this film was let down is that certain American actors drawl, and there was often overloud music playing in the background - and this made some scenes almost unintelligible.
I also feel that if the film were an hour or more longer, and developed the characters stories, it would have been Outstanding.

At last a good movie on iTunes!

Download - 100% better value for money in terms of narrative and acting than that "war dogs" big headed poorly acted
diarrhoea-movie.

Awesome

With the amount of drivel released these days, an all round class act like this is a rare treat. Great performances and timing all round....

Hell or High Water

This wasn't the gritty thriller I was expecting, something more along the lines of the excellent No Country For Old Men, but a great film nonetheless. A simple tale of two brothers looking to set things straight and the Rangers looking to take them down, and a fantastic script full of badinage. Bridges and Pine give outstanding performances and Foster acts like I've never seen before. Some of the vista shots have made me want to head to Texas and check it out; the bullet riddled signposts not so much...
