An utterly pointless and useless misuse of talent. This must have been a tax write off or something because this is beyond terrible. Not even a so bad it’s good film. Just shockingly terrible.

Ok, comedy and horror imho are the hardest genres to get right, but if I compare this to the leads previous work - Step Brothers, TN etc. It is really not that much different. Sure, the trailers are better than the movies but still, there are some laughs and I find Ferrell reasonably funny. But I feel out of touch when it comes to the critical backlash this film has had compared to their other work. But then, I couldn’t believe Trump got elected president and the UK left the EU.

This is a very funny parody/spoof and will in the future be considered a cult classic

Truly awful, don’t waste your time

Just slightly the wrong side of silly and childish really. Not great and not sure about that autopsy scene but could of been worse. … looks good, slightly charming in its own way and some good cameos from decent actors.

Saw the bad reviews and just had to see it as it sounded so bad. Actually had 2 laugh out loud moments but that’s it. The rest was... rubbish

Save your money

I’ve watched and enjoyed many Will Farrel movies bit this was so painfully bad I couldn’t stick it for more than half an hour before turning it off. I can’t think of a single redeeming moment or feature, if ever there was a reason for Apple to invent a negative star rating this movie is it, easily worth -5 stars. I don’t know if it was the pressure of being producer as well as lead but to see a skilled actor deliver such a pile of tripe is truly sad.

They lost me a couple of minutes in then i fell asleep. Only purchase if it's the 99p rental of the week, and you need a nap.

Just a terrible film! Normally I like these two and in Step Brothers they were good but this film is possibly the worst thing I have seen since Mrs Browns Boys. Just awful and not funny at all, it’s like two adolescent boys got together and wrote a film.

Not really sure what to say about this film. Other than it is utterly unwatchable, stupid, infantile, un-directed (despite what it says in the credits), crappily written load of drivel ever! To think, this made it to the theatres? Surely nonone can remeber such a shamful waste of trip to the big screen? Certainly not in my liftetime, and I have seen a few pretty awful films... (Alexander being one that springs to mind). In short, please give your hard earned cash to a worth cause, nay, just set light to it, rather than give it to this ridicilous produciton. #Shocking

If they sell this film for £0.99 then it’s worth it but anything more than that it’s just not value for money utter garbage

Worst film Ive ever seen. Boring beyond belief, not funny at all. Stopped it after 20 minutes (I would have turned it off sooner if I hadn’t paid money to rent it)

I’ve stuck it out through some bad films in my time, especially when the cast is as (usually) enjoyable as this but if you’re looking for more “step brothers” screen magic - look elsewhere.

Ended up watching it in 3 sittings across a week, just to feel like I got some sense of monies worth but it was shockingly bad, not even guilty pleasure bad. Just terrible. Find a better way to spend your time - looking at the floor for example, or ironing tinfoil.

These guys have done some really funny movies. Sad to say, this was one of their worst. Needed a better script.

If you like step brothers, the other guys and have watched other versions of Holmes and Watson then this is great.

A brilliant scrambled up mess of history, great tongue in cheek version of Sherlock. Pokes fun at current world affairs and social media. Also great use of cockney rhyming slang and other gags you’d get if you understand British history/culture.

Possibly one of the greatest films ever made,don’t take any notice of any of these uncultured philistines.

If iTunes was to pay me £13.99 to watch this movie to the end I think even then I couldn't do it. If you want to see a truly hilarious take on SHelock Holmes then hunt down the DVD of "Without a Clue" starring Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley. You will not regret it and it will more than make up for having watched this drivel.

why? Just why? Ferrell and Reilly are both brilliant comic actors, but this is mindless tedious drivel. Shamefully bad with nothing to recommend it except that eventually it ends.

I will listen to, read, or watch any Sherlock Holmes release, EXCEPT this one. This was a total abomination. How could this debacle ever be made is beyond me.

I watched the first 10 minutes wincing and hoping it was just a bad start and would get better. The next 10 minutes in disbelief that instead of getting better it actually got worse. The next 10 minutes felt ripped off! They should have been paying me to watch this drivel an appalling excuse for a movie.

I then gave up, and decided to watch something else.

Not a great film but still watchable. Silly fun, but bit disappointing considering the two main actors that are in this film.

The appalling ‘British’ accents, dreadful script and hammy attempts at puerile slapstick comedy bored me to tears - how I sat through the excruciating display of talentless bumbling to the bitter end, I will never know. Probably the worst movie I have ever seen.

Well, this film has been panned by almost everyone.I have to say I thought it was fantastic with numerous laugh out loud moments. I’m sure it will become a cult classic like Anchorman!

Not a single thing to recommend about this film, don’t think it could have been much worse.

Allways liked Sherlock holmes stuff and have liked most stuff Ferrell has done, unfortunatly this film is totaly dreadfull. Even the likes of Steve Coogan poping up can not save this film.

The british accents for instance are indeed terible and i guess are ment to be but they sound dubbed on. The jokes just go wide of the mark and end up being insultingly bad.

Now it is a comedy, but any Holmes fan knows that the storys take place during the 1880s and 90s and yet somehow the Titanic shows up. The Titanic does not launch untill 1912. And as Queen Victoria dies in 1901 she would never have seen the Titanic.

A comedy it may be but historical inacurasies this bad are insulting and make the movie makers look stupid.

If you are the guys from Dumb and Dumber you will love this film, if not avoid like the plague.

Half way through I wanted to gouge my eyes out. Probably the worst movie I have ever watched.

Surely one of the most original films to be made in the last 30 years. The acting is outstanding and the storyline historically accurate and utterly immersive. I just hope they do a Holmes and Watson 2,3 and yes, maybe even 4. I’ll be the first in the long long queue outside the cinema.

As a huge fan of Will Ferrell I was so disappointed to see how bad this film could be. I ignored the reviews and that’s why I’m writing this - for you. Yes, you. Save your money and buy another film, any film. Or just set fire to your money. At least you’ll enjoy the heat and light more than you’ll enjoy this vanity project. You have been warned.

Very witty and cleverly put. It certainly does make a mockery of the British and the upper class.

I loved this film and a spin off of the Great Holmes is great and stupidly funny!.

Mere words cannot express just how mind-numbingly crass and wretched this film is. Given a choice I'd rather have my eyes and ears eaten away by a swarm of plague infested rats than watch this again.

Such a disappointment from these two, always loved there movies. With a decent looking cast I was stupid enough to actually pay money in the cinema to see this. I lasted about 40 minutes when I just couldn’t take it anymore and walked out, first time I have ever done that... seriously what were they thinking releasing this awful film

Get this into the films for £3.99 section ASAP (priced at £1.99) and we will get on with our lives. If you want to see John C. Reilly in a good buddy movie i suggest you give Stan & Ollie a go.

With such a good cast I was very disappointed with this film. So much so I turned it off after 15 minutes, got smacked from how bad this is. Not what I was expecting from Ferrell and Reilly.

wow i was really wanting to watch this and had high hopes but it was a traversty. the gags were cheap and random, the writers seemed to just thow in anything they could think of in awlful english accents. im british and their interpretsaton of our humour is off the mark
