Went in completely oblivious
Had not even seen a trailer nor read anything about this film before going into the cinema in the spur of the moment.
Just picked Midsommar from the movies that were about to start.
For the 1st act, I was almost giving up on it - the characters were being developed well so I knew something was going to change fairly soon. Plus the continuous hinting that all is not as perfect as the idyllic surroundings. Then everything goes sideways when the main premise kicks in. Not the film ?I was expecting but a masterpiece in writing nonetheless.
A proper modern day horror without needing any over the top gore or random jump-scares to portray the sheer terror the people would have felt when it dawned on them what was in store.
All in all, I’m really glad ?I saw it - more so that I didn’t know what I was going to see.
5 stars for sure. It is a bit of a slow burner to begin with but when it gets going you realise it was needed to build on the suspense of what was to come.
Great acting, great story, great film. And it was good that it was filmed on location in the beautiful country opposed to just a hollywood recreation of another country. Which they could have done easily but glad they didn’t.
Not something I’d watch again in a hurry as the best part of the movie was the suspense and eventually finding out what is going on.
