For such a great classic, both book and film, the writers and directors had a lot of reference to use but somehow fell short of actually paying any attention. The dialogue was ok, but not well developed, with some key points glossed over. The acting was in a similar boat, it was fine with pretty good fight scenes, but most of the time the cast whispered, and when set against a background of booming music, it was almost lost. The visuals are the primary selling point, with wonderful cgi and landscapes. However, for a nearly three hour movie, I would expect to have had the whole story told, and not as a part one teaser. To think of having to sit through another three hours to complete the plot does not excite me for this.
