Description

A thoroughly cinematic drama, Elvis's story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker. As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley's rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis's life, Priscilla Presley.

Elvis has left the building.

There are flaws, it’s certainly not perfect, and compromises were made, nonetheless I very much enjoyed this. A few inaccuracies… EP and the colonel did not talk on a ferris wheel. The scene where the colonel demands that ‘all that matters is that - that man is on stage tonight’ (or something like that) wasn’t in the corridor but in reality in EPs room. Scenes where EP goes to see Nixon were removed and not even mentioned as the film was already too long.
I got this because it was cheap as chips (Sorry those who paid £20 something quid), and was too noticeable exterior scenes were built in a studio. (The false roads are always a dead giveaway…a shiny brand new road would last 5 mins before being mucky and grimy and having the well used look. That aside: I wish EPs own voice was used more.
Regardless of its flaws, this was an awesome movie!

Reasonable

I don’t think it’s the best Elvis perception, but it was still worth the watch. I often base my reviews on whether I’d watch the movie again, or if it will stick in my mind for the rest of time.
I would say that it might end up in a cluster of other movies that would go for sale for a very low price after the initial cost.

Good film

I would have rated this 3 and a half stars but doesn’t let you. The film was good. Austin’s Butlers performance was the best thing about the movie. The music was great and the costume design wouldn’t be shocked if it wins an Oscar for it to be honest. The only downfalls I have with the film is it’s over the top editing and camera work in the first hour of the film and also Tom Hanks’ acting in my opinion was poor.

Disappointment

I expected so much more from Baz Luhrmann. Six months later, I can barely remember the film, the only thing I DO remember is how disappointed I was at how little music there was in the film. I feel like I wasted a lot of money.

BRILLIANT

Austin Butler is a household name and truly magnificent in this movie. Austin embodies Elvis like no other and I am gripped for 2 and a half hours. The music is exceptional and the editing is beautiful. Baz’s style is VEGAS adored and I have seen this movie 15 times now. Fully deserves all the Oscar noms and I cannot wait to see Austin take the best actor award home!
This movie is also bringing in a whole new generation of Elvis fans which I think is beautiful.

Elvis - forget the film - just enjoy his music.

I watched it because the trailer was fine and the price had eventualy come down to reality somewhat. Trailers usually make films out to be better than they really are - and that was the case with this film too.
I came to the conclusion that the best way to remember Elvis is to simply just enjoy his music.

Beautiful emotional ride

The movie came at an incredibly important time in my life. Last year I lost my mum to Covid and it’s been an emotional rollercoaster ever since. My dad has just about about coped but it’s been tough. I come from a household that seemed to live and breathe Elvis in so many ways including having Elvis as my middle name. When mum passed we played a number of songs at the funeral and we also celebrated dads 80th birthday without her but managed to bring some happiness back to him, and us, with a brilliant rock and roll singer who, while not an Elvis impersonator, sang brilliantly like Elvis. He captured the essence of Elvis as does Austin Butler here.
So you get the context. A week after his 80th I took him to see the movie. At first I feared he may not get through it as it was so loud and the relentless pace seemed too much. However when we did get our breath back, the spectacle was clear. The biggest approval from my perspective from us was that we both cried in the closing credits. Not just as it evoked so many memories of what Elvis meant to mum and dad but the shear emotional ride that was so well depicted in this movie that was the life of the one and only Elvis Presley.
On its iTunes release I bought it right away. Yes I paid £19.99 but it did not bother me as I come from a world long ago when we bought expensive DVDs and before that VHS. So this was not an issue for something that I felt was so special.
I then showed the movie to my wife and sons. All are not fans at all of Elvis and know very little about him. I had to almost drag my youngest to the front room to watch it. At the end they told me how much they loved the movie and actually enjoyed most of the soundtrack. It also opened lots of discussions, not just about the life of Elvis but race, exploitation of people, drug abuse and all kinds of other topics.
Away from all the emotional context I have described, for me the movie is just amazing. The direction, the acting (everyone but especially Austin Butler-incredible), the soundtrack, the cinematography; basically everything. The is a movie for all. The drama is incredible as is the story. You just need to acknowledge it’s not a drama documentary but a representation of a fictional vivid drug enduced dream/nightmare of an exploitative con man. Suspend pre conceived ideas and you’ll love it.

This was audio described in cinima’s in the UK, and comes with subtitles, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision etc, but no audio description? Extremely disappointing, please fix this.

Major disappointment

Without a doubt the worst film I have ever seen. Five seconds worth of story then it jumps ahead a few years, not much to be seen or heard of Elvis. Don’t waste your money.

Blame the company ?!!

Maybe apple had nothing to do with the £20 price. I just brought top gun maverick for £13.99 which is cheaper than buying a blu ray disc. So if it was apple that dictates the price why wasn’t top gun maverick £20, it made more money than the Elvis movie also. And both are still in cinemas in the uk. But that’s entertainment and it depends what view your looking in from. I’ve not brought elvis on apple store but it comes out on 4k blu ray so Il pick that up and it's £24.99. I love films and will watch loads of times

Wish people would review the movie and not the price

Firstly, the movie is exceptional. Austin Butler is fantastic, and it’s a big and lavish as you would expect from Lurhman. 5 stars.
Re: price. It’s £20. Don’t like it, don’t buy it and wait. It’s still in the cinema, and the pricing is inflated so it’s stop cannibalising that industry. Locally £20 is also still cheaper than two seats at the cinema, so things balance out depending on where you are.

Product of Perfection

What can I say, Austin Butler’s portrayal of the King is exceptional. I am not of an age where I had appreciated the phenomenon that was Elvis. However i can confidently say that this film is truly worthy of five stars. From the songs, story line and the sets, you won’t regret it. I was hooked from start to finish and can safely say that I will rewatch this again and again!

Boring

A word I would never say about Elvis but this film is tedious best part is last 5 mins with actual Elvis footage
Acting is poor the story loosely based on actual events but you want it fast forward to more interesting parts
Soundtrack does not cover most of his best music and the supposed story being told by Parker is extremely week and is not enough to keep you entertained
If you want a good film watch “this is Elvis” they have used great footage of Elvis himself and is a much better story than this and you get to see real Elvis
Don’t bother wasting your time with this film

Great film but at £19.99 to buy ridiculously priced!

And £15.99 to rent? £19.99 to buy? Ridiculous.
The film though is great and very skilfully directed - a great tribute to Elvis which fans will love and sensitively handled. The only criticism is that Tom Hanks is almost a caricature rather than a character in the film. The actor who plays Elvis is awesome and the becomes the role and does an incredible job.
The director is a true artist and is genuinely innovative and creative in his vision.
Great film - wait for it to be better and more reasonably priced.

Outstanding

This movie is fabulous. It has its flaws, but nonetheless it is the best movie ever made about the King, and is thoroughly enjoyable.
The negative reviews here on iTunes are mostly complaining about the high price, but that’s not a valid reason to give a negative review to the movie itself.
A great movie with an utterly enthralling performance by Austin Butler. Highly recommended.

If you don’t like the price, watch it at the cinema

For a film that’s still showing in the cinemas, renting it for £15.99 is cheaper than 2 cinema tickets, and good to see there is the option to buy. It gives people the option to see a newly realeased film at home and avoid crowds if their worried about covid while it’s still showing in cinemas. To those people complaining about the price, just be patient, it will come down in price after it finishes its cinema run.

WATCH IT IN CINEMA WHILE YOU CAN!

I saw this movie in cinemas around 6 weeks ago and it’s still running in cinemas, SO CATCH A VIEWING WHILE YOU CAN IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT. I find that the Autobiography genre with movies is always lacklustre but I kid you not, THIS MOVIE IS JUST AMAZING!! Austin Butler truly dedicated 2 years of his life emulating the way Elvis spoke, the way he looked and just every cue possible. He truly put his heart and soul into emulating how Elvis was and it comes to shows in his performance throughout the movie. Austin even sang Elvis’s songs in this movie (check out this movie’s soundtrack album here on iTunes) rather than having had Elvis’s songs playing in the background. This movie is the best autobiography movie’s I’ve ever seen. Puts other Singer’s autobiography movie’s like Rocketman and Bohemian Rapsody to shame.

A joy to watch

I felt in love with this movie from the first time and have watched it at the cinema about 10 times. I was a fun of the Director’s previous work and was pleased to see it maintained his style throughout.
The music we know so well chosen and the acting is superb.
This is not the forum to complaint about the cost, my rating is for the movie and the team that madi it. The abusive price I will make sure to comment on other forums.

Expensive because of a 45 day window

This film is truly incredible!
To those who are upset with the £19.99 price, tthis is simply because the film is available to buy on iTunes just 6 weeks (45 days) after the cinema release. I'm sure that once the 12 week period is up, it will drop in price to £13.99. Having a film though to buy at just 6 weeks into the cinema release is pretty amazing though.
Also true respect that the film on iTunes is both 4K Dolby Vision AND Dolby Atmos and it's great to see iTunes Extras too. I'm quite excited to hear how it sounds with the spacial audio on the AirPods Pro.

Great film, Eye Watering Prices

I watched this at the cinema and I thought that they got this film perfect, out of all the biopics that have come out in the recent years this has been my favourite. Great cast, great representation of Elvis and the actors were all just marvellous.
The price on the film on the other had is stupid. £10 yes, £12 maybe, £14 at a push, but come on £20 to purchase the film. I didn’t pay that to watch it at the cinema. Things are getting out of hand now.

Love this film… but no way £19.99

Great film, but no way in God’s earth I am spending £19.99 on a digital film. That’s an increase of 42% to the standard £13.99 new price listing! Inflation is at 10%… not 40%.
