Description

Twenty years ago, a tragic accident in a mine on St. Valentine's Day took the lives of five miners. The disaster occurred while supervisors left their posts to attend the town's annual Valentine's Day dance. The only survivor, Harry Warden, was confined to a mental institution after the ordeal. On the disaster's first anniversary, he returned to the town for bloody revenge. That was nineteen years ago, and memories have dimmed. Young lovers T.J. (Paul Kelman) and Sarah (Lori Hallier) and friend Axel (Neil Affleck) are among the townspeople attending another Valentine's party. Then, a box of Valentine candy arrives, containing an ominous message and a blood-soaked heart. Before the night is over, terror will strike again and again and again...

Classic slasher

Deservedly ranked with Black Christmas as a classic of the genre. All the staple elements of the slasher are here, long before they became the staple elements of low-rent blood fest.
The re-make seems crude and contrived in contrast to this, the original.
One for the afficianado rather than the puerile little juvenile.

This is a pretty decent horror flick - just don't judge it by today's standards because it's almost 30 years old.

This is one of the scariest films Ive seen in a while. The way the killer breathes through the mask so it sounds all breathy and heavy, every time I heard it I got really scared in case he was going to kill someone. I was on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. By the time it was approx. 10.30 mins in you will be completely hooked. Its quite sick in places (being an 18), but if youre looking for something decently scary with a pickaxe wielding pshycopath in it, youve just found it.
