Description

The critics and public agree. Brian De Palma's The Untouchables is a must-see masterpiece - glorious, fierce, larger-than-life depiction of the mob warlord who ruled Prohibition-era Chicago... and the law enforcer who vowed to bring him down. This classic confrontation between good and evil and stars Kevin Costner as federal agent Eliot Ness, Robert De Niro as gangland kingpin Al Capone and Sean Connery as Malone, the cop who teaches Ness how to beat the mob: shoot fast and shoot first.

Brian De Palma's Masterpiece!

"The Untouchables" is the story of Elliot Ness (perfectly played by Kevin Costner) who tries to bring down Chicago Mob boss Al Capone (play by Robert De Niro in one of his most under-rated roles) during the early-1930s. Illegal liquor smuggling and other much more serious crimes are running amok and corruption is all over. Costner realizes very fast that he must hand-pick his own men to bring De Niro down for good. Thus he enlists the help of a young cop from the academy (Andy Garcia), a wimpy book-keeper (Charles Martin Smith) and a hard-nosed Irish beat cop (Oscar-winner Sean Connery in the performance of a lifetime). Together they slowly start to peel through the multiple layers of protection to get De Niro for good. It seems that the fact that De Niro has been lax in paying his income taxes could be his ultimate downfall. Beautifully directed by Brian De Palma, "The Untouchables" stands very tall with the other great productions of the 1980s. Ennio Morricone's Oscar-nominated score is one of the finest the cinema has ever experienced. Really excellent. I have no negative comments on this production!

An extra-ordinarily great film

The cast and the delivery of this great story is flawless. The nail-bitter of all nail-bitter climaxes.

The Untouchables

The action scenes and shootouts are great and graphic. However, Kevin Costner wasn't EXACTLY going for an Academy Award® and neither was Sean Connery, or Andy Garcia for that matter. Robert De Niro was very good as Al Capone but over all a bit of a disappointment.
Oooooohhhhhh!!! and I almost forgot, the music is a lot better than the film by Ennio Morricone.

Brilliant

Good plot, good action and good acting. However, the film is repeated on film 4 a lot so this is a waste of money really.

Classic

Fantastic brutally honest movie which oddly came out before the similar Goodfellas. Unforgettable scenes, great acting, Sean Connery's finest role, long lasting film with high watchability.

untouchables

Great movie well worth the £3.99 for those of you who have not seen it. And for those of you have not seen it, I highly recommend it. This was back in the days when Kevin Costner was still a star and Sean Connery was still James Bond (only this time he has a bad Irish accent).

The Untouchables

I would just like to say this film plus the actors in it is great and worth it to buy because you will watch it more than once if you like action adventure movies, also if you like it try The Rock with Sean Connery if available as this is a great movie to if not better.

TOO EXPENSIVE AND RENTABLE

I THINK THAT THE FILMS SHOULD ALL BE RENTABLE AND ALSO SHOULD NOT BE PICED AS HIGH

the price of the movies

firstly, this is a great movie.
secondly, colin... no need to have such a close-minded opinion. personally, i think it is a bit pricey, but taking into account the convenience of not having to source it at a dvd store, i think it's a great initiative...
also, consider the people who don't feel like heading out to buy a movie, but want to watch one nonetheless... this is the perfect solution...
the rating is obviously related to the movie...

A great film, if action is your tipple.Great acting from all, Deniro in particular shines as Capone,as long as you overlook Connery's absurd irish accent (otherwise his acting is admirable). The many memorable scenes are chock full of gunslinging (one particular scene in which Costners character manages to gun down goons in time to save a baby in a pram will stick in your memory) and dramatic quotes. My only slight quibble is the slight cheesiness of it all (the bit on horseback?) and the sometimes long wait between action scenes. However this can be quickly overlooked if you want to remember the facts : 'The Untouchables' is a Cops V Gangsters classic most are sure to enjoy.

Colin, you have managed to carpet bomb your opinion all over iTunes. If you think that the films are too expensive, campaign by not purchasing any and not by continually giving good films bad ratings to suit your own ends. I personally have been waiting for iTunes movies to arrive for a number of months as I am interested in the technological implications of the service. This is a good and welcome development for the UK and I look forward to the services evolution. Well done Apple.
