I like to consider myself a movie-buff of all genres, so at least try to trust my judgement here. It was not until my third viewing of this a couple of weeks ago that I realised just how stunning this film is. The acting, especially from the three main characters (Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck and Sam Rockwell) is absolutely exceptional. Every quiver, sense of desperation, sadness, fear, longing and desire is picked up by the actors, and to be honest I can't really tell you just how great it is. Bear in mind this is not your classic 'western', it is simply set during that time period, so don't expect a fast paced, shoot em' up story-line. It is focused on the downfall of these characters, using themes such as betrayal and greed throughout. The soundtrack is possibly the best I have ever heard, and again, you will need to hear it yourself to understand it's greatness. Basically, the point of this review is to try and get across the perfection I saw in this film. However, this will certainly not appeal to everyone, as it is the opposite of the mainstream movies of today such as Transformers etc. I only recommend this to those who look for more in film than gun fights and explosions, those who appreciate the art of film-making at it's very best, those whom are not looking for a feel-good film, and especially those who like to see a story unrushed.
