Romola Garai steals the show in this poor production that Needs re working on script, filming and recasting. This is the poorest film of all Romola's work. She is OUTSTANDING in all that she does and holds this flop together.

I have been so late to watch this but so glad to have caught up. I love this film ,its what i want from a romance the closeness ,the love and the support of your one love. The characters have so much depth and combined with the cinematography make the visuals something that lingers in the mind . With the lies and hurt caused by Briony are it massive to take in but seeing her clean bed pans in the hospital you have to give here atonement. I did weep for love lost ,for death and for those snatched moments lying on a hot summers day on the grass with the only person you want to be with .It could only be an English summer with the smell of warm flora

and the sound of swallows over head . yes I cried.

this film is just a mixture of upset yet entertainment.

A wonderful adaptation of the book, with a stellar cast and a wonderful eye to detail. Brilliant performances fill this epic from start to finish. It's a war film without too much (for me dull) battle scenes and a romance without too much (once again, for me mawkish) romance.

I am not usually a great fan of movies and certainly not a die hard fan of any of the actors/actresses but this was simply brilliant. The depth of the emotions as well as clear directions of the movie (without being too condescending) made it enjoyable, yet touching. The ending was unexpected and brought tears to my eyes.

This film is so wonderfully directed, written and acted it is a definite must-buy! It's very close to the book as well: most of the dialogue is taken from it and I think it's the closest film adaptation of a book I've ever watched (And I've watched a lot of film adaptations of amazing books). Very very sad at the end, but Keira and James portray the roles to perfection. Well worth the money :)

I watched it for James McAvoy, and I was not let down! There are moments when he breaks down, and at the end I was in tears. I would defenitely reccomend it for the great story and the acting by James and Keira Knightley. I wanna read the book now, and I never read books! All romantics should watch this, even if it is a tear-jerker.

One of the best films ever made - in my opinion!

Atonement definitely is my favourite film of all time. If you're into deep romantic films, this is for you. Keira Knightley and James McAvoy work in harmony in this film and it they do a fantastic job of bringing their characters to life.

Although the film does run on a slight tangent to the book (which is also extremely good) - particularly at the end - the main storyline is captured very well and the director has adapted the book for a more understandable ending. The ending is very sad but extremely fulfilling. This is one of those films that you'll probably have to watch twice to understand properly.

This film will probably have you in tears at the end, but don't hesitate to buy it and watch it. Any male or female who is interested in (tragic) romantic dramas will love this film.

Oh and by the way - this is not a film to watch with younger family.

As good as the book!! Which in itself is a great compliment, considering the fact the story is very much about inner feelings.

I highly recommend it. Not a fan of Knightley, but she was perfect for the role of Cecilia. James McAvoy is simply gorgeous and believable. All in all, a work of art!

Atonement is a film of perfect direction from Joe Wright. Every aspect of every detail in every scene has been carefully thought of and created in a way to represent the words on the page of Ian McEwen's novel. The cinematography from Seamus McGarvey is simply stunning and creates an atmosphere that fits perfectly with every moment of the film. If the wonderful performance's do not lead you to tears the cinematography certainly will. This film changed my life, and it may change yours, you'll never know unless you watch.

if u watch this film you will never forget it, it is the best film i have ever watched i love it !!!!!!

Sitting down to watch this film one late evening, I was captivated from start to finish. It is a film to suprise, understand and make you feel. Watch this with a box of tissues handy. You won't be disappointed.

A word of caution, however: Don't watch the film like a book, never read a book like a movie.

I loved this film from the first time i saw it. Has a very good storyline and a brilliant ending. Very sad.

Possibly One of the gratest movies of the decade, a phenomanol love story, extordianarily shot, acted and edited. It keeps you guessing right till the end.

I have to say this is one of my favourite films of all time. If not my favourite. It's just so beautiful and is guaranteed to make me cry, every time I see it. The 5-minute continuous beach scene is a beautiful work of art and I'd go as far as to say this film is perfect. The award-winning score complements the performance of the actors well and the acting is absolutely brilliant on both the protagonists' part. I would recommend this gorgeous piece of genius to anyone. So if you haven't seen it yet, DO IT and I promise you won't regret it :) ...even if you're just watching it for the eye candy like I was at first, I can safely say you will see right past that (perhaps not entirely) and realise that this is actually a brilliant and beautiful film! I can't rave on about this enough, so I'll stop now.

For the first 5 or 6 minutes it just draws your attention to the story behind it, but the ending is very emotional

What a film... the first half is way way way better than the second but still fantastic... James Mc Avoy is amazing and the story itself is unbelievable... a must-watch film!!!

all the actors play their parts exceptionally well, this film is very very good. I dont usually enjoy these types of films but the depth of it and the actors make it such a good movie. Worth buying.

This film has been cleverly directed and the score fits in perfectly with the characters and the plots and conveys the emotion of the characters beautifully.

The direction of this film is breathtaking and the cast is chosen brilliantly. Keira Knightley and James McAvoy play their roles perfectly.

McAvoy's Performance is absoloutly outstanding and i would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys a thrilling love story and a twist at the end

I would recommend this film if you haven't read the book. If you have read the book (which is brilliant and a must read) don't watch this as it is a major dissapointment. I absolutley loved the book and I think this film is alright but not as good as the book.

This has to be one of the best films I have ever seen. Not only is James McAvoy a great actor (and gorgeous!) but the performances from all of the actors and actresses make this movie; as well as the well written script. The movie is amazing; but then ends in a way you may not have been expecting. The first time I watched it I cried, and then the other times I cried again. It is a touching and thought provoking movie. Buy it!

I can never get tired of this film; the soundtrack is fantastic, with integrated typewriter sounds (as the story is being written) and a beautiful love story. Keira Knightley's performance as a very reserved young woman is excellent. After having seen the film, I read the book, which is set out in the same way. I really recommend both!

Atonement exceeded all my expectations. A tragic love story which has everthing a love story should have. I had never seen a movie with James Mcavoy before and i was completely awe struck. He is defintely one of the greatest actors of the 21st century. I would definitely recommend this film to everyone, i had my doubts about buying it but it was totally worth it.

This film is just beautiful and heartbreaking. Very effective on the big screen and her dress is amazing! But get it on dvd, much cheaper.

Love this film! It is so sad, but so well filmed, directed and the music just fits in so well.

A brilliant storyline, with so many twists making it really sad seeing the consequences of Bryony's actions.

The last five minutes makes the whole film. Beautiful cinematography if not a bit cliche in bits. Overall a thoroughly good buy and a beautiful story behind it. Keira Knightley has been seen as wooden in the past (IKEA Knightley) but this performance begins to show a true depth to her acting. James McAvoy is brilliant as always!

Only film I've watched which makes me cry. There is an almighty twist at the end and everything is not as it seems. It becomes too late for Briony to atone her crime and Robbie and Cecila suffer for her misunderstanding and childhood innocence. This is a beautiful film possibly the best cinematography for a very long time and a very powerful performance from all involved. Just a shame that they were snubbed at the major film awards.

This movie is amazing! I love it sooo much!!! Its filled with sadness, happiness and shockness. I bought it in TESCO for much cheaper though. Keira did a wonderful job and so did James. It really wsas fabulous. Worth it =] =] =]
