Description

Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant star in this captivating romantic comedy that swept the Ten Best Lists and was named the Best Picture of the Year by the Golden Globes. Based on Jane Austen's classic novel, "Sense and Sensibility" tells of the Dashwood sisters, sensible Elinor (Thompson) and passionate Marianne (Winslet), whose chances at marriage seem doomed by their family's sudden loss of fortune. Rickman, Grant and Greg Wise co-star as the well-intentioned suitors who are trapped by the strict rules of society and the conflicting laws of desire.

There's some amazing acting going on here and also costumes and sets. Ang Lee always delivers. No doubt about it: it's a classic!

I loved it. Emma, Kate, Hugh, Greg were all brilliant. If you've seen this, go and get the 2008 tv version as well.

I read the book sense sensibility and sea monsters and I have to say this is nothing like it. They've focused completely on the romance and have removed all the sea monsters, even from the title

Love! Love! Love!

Not only does this adaption of one of Austen's earliest novels have a fantastic screenplay (thank you Ms Thompson) and marvellous actors (Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Greg Wise and Hugh Grant before most of them became household names), this has the feel of really capturing the world that Austen created. It was easy to lose myself within it and though Hugh Grant was his typically bumbling English gentleman, I was surprised at Kate Winslet's performance (this is pre-Titanic for her) and delighted in the soft vulnerability and love portrayed by Alan Rickman's Colonel Brandon. The only problem I had with it was that Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant did not make a convincing couple but as the story focuses primarily on Marianne and Colonel Brandon, this can be easily forgiven. I highly recommend this.

this film and was happy to pay the fee and download it. Defo would be interested if iTunes made the BBC's 2008 version available - can never be too rich or have too much Jane Austen. Bring it on!

BBC Version is better
