Description
Casablanca: easy to enter, but much harder to leave, especially if you're wanted by the Nazis. Such a man is Resistance leader Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), whose only hope is Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), a cynical American who sticks his neck out for no one, especially Victor's wife Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), the ex-lover who broke his heart. Ilsa offers herself in exchange for Laszlo's transport out of the country and bitter Rick must decide what counts more - personal happiness or countless lives hanging in the balance.

I absolutely love this film - an all time classic - a simple love story:-
Guy meets girl.
Guy loses girl.
Guy gets girl back - but...
If you've not seen this film - you really should. It is a "classic" love film - one that just couldn't be made today.
It includes the often (mis) quoted lines:-
"Play it again Sam"
"We'll always have Paris"
"Round up the Usual Suspects" - many years later the title of the film of the same name. A modern classic.
And the entire song by Dooley Wilson - "You must remember this, a kiss is still a kiss, a sigh is still a sigh...."
"You know Louie - this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship" - The last line of the film
An all time classic film - for good reason, and it stands up to repeat watching again and again - but really a classic "by accident".
The script was written about a day or so ahead of the scenes being acted. Bogart and Bergman complained - they didn't know how the play the part - "is the guy gonna get the girl or what?".
Another detail lost over the years - the "big star" of the day - the person who was paid the most on the film set - was Paul Henreid - (Paul who). They guy who played the husband of Ingrid Bergman's character. After the screen tests - it was clear Bogart and Bergman had stolen the show, and it propelled Bogart into stardom - he became the highest paid actor of the time.
With great supporting actors including "The Fat Man" from The Maltese Falcon (Sydney Greenstreet) and Peter Lorre - and the wry chief of police played by Claude Rains. It's a terrific cast.

Film remains an all time classic. However want to add that rental worked perfectly. reasonable price, superb quality and whole process was faultless. Am not a huge film-watcher but will definitely rent a film from Itunes in the future.

Love love love love love love love. That is all I have to say. (Oh, and if a young person happens to chance upon this film, PLEASE watch it - this is coming from a 20 year old. I actually wanted to go to Casablanca when I first watched it!)

Just came back from Morocco and things haven't changed much in the near 70 years since this was made. Just wished I'd watched it before I went. This is a timeless classic which makes me wonder why we bother with HD and 4K films. If you've got the story and leads right then everything else falls into place. They just don't make movies like this anymore! This has been expertly re-mastered with the usual exceptional quality I've come to expect from the iTunes store.

It's got a good political message, great romance, awesome music, quotes, action sequences.
Just an all time classic.
