Description

Alfred Hitchcock's landmark masterpiece of the macabre stars Anthony Perkins as the troubled Norman Bates, whose old dark house and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. No one knows that better than Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), the ill-fated traveler whose journey ends in the notorious "shower scene." As first a private detective, then Marion's sister (Vera Miles) searches for her, the horror and the suspense mount to a terrifying climax where the mysterious killer is finally revealed.

He Was Always Bad!

A true classic of cinema, there is not enough that can be said about Psycho and yet too much to make a review of this great film adequate. All I can say is that this is a film that deserves at least one viewing. Horror fans will have the pleasure of seeing one of the first films to really push the genre into mainstream cinema, whilst others will see a film that has true character development and tragedy engraved in its very soul. Keen observers will also note some of Hitchcock’s penchant for black humour creeping through. And, if you happen to be a fan of the television series, Bates Motel, you really should go back to where the cinematic version started...

An bone chilling film that may give you nightmares.

Even though I saw the plot twist coming a mile away, the whole film just had this chilling atmosphere. Yea, I enjoyed it.

Masterpiece

But to the reviewer below who said it should have been made in colour, I suggest you don't try to second guess Hitchcock's artistic intent.

Some movies enter into legend

Where to start with a movie like this! Firstly this movie is just SUPERB!!! From the moment it starts, its just class! It also breaks all the rules!! You will never feel safe in the shower again! And like all true horror movies, it really leaves you with something. As you step into the shower you will most definitely just check the bathroom door-is it definitely locked? Anthony Perkins is fantastic, Janet Leigh is spot on and Hitchcock knows what he is doing, cranking up the tension, and tapping into those inner most fears! Watch, Enjoy and just check that the door is definitely locked once you have seen this movie!! Great stuff!!!

I can't think of an adjective that's positive enough to describe this film

Excellent film

This is an excellent film and still looks and sounds great after fifty years. The acting and direction still stands the test of time. If only it was made in colour.

AMAZING!!!!!!!

Alfred Hitchcock is a true wonder. to make a film so shocking as that in that era is absolutely flabergausting. I reccomend that everyone buys a bag of popcorn, buys this movie, turns down the lights then watches the film end to end. I am sure you will love it.

Best of Hitch

This film holds its own almost 50 years after its first release. Slickly put together. If you find Hitch films somewhat tedious and slow, this is a different shower all together.

The original slasher movie

If you have not seen this before, get yourself nice and comfy with no distractions. Then prepare to manipulated and terrified by the master of suspense, Hitchcock. One reviewer said it seems contemporary. That's because just about every other movie of this genre has used its ideas and motifs. Some might have got close for shocks but as an example of the art of cinema it's in a league of it's own.

Top Notch

How this Hitchcock masterpiece could be given 2 stars by someone who 'had to watch it at school once' beggars belief. This is a great film, and although it may not stand up quite as much as some of Hitchock's other works, it's still well worth buying.

Not sure about this one

We had to watch this one in a English lesson and write a review about it so I will sum that up here. It's alright it doesn't have enough scariness to make you watch it if you like being chilled (in fact most of my class found it funny!). I do however see that for the time it was brilliant and even by today's standards it's pretty good. I would say it's an essential to see (if only once) but not to own. If you've seen it and liked it buy it but if you haven't seen it rent!

BRILLIANT!

A must see for all Hitchcock fans. Well, any fans of film for that matter. If it was in colour, it woul seem like a contempory film. So ahead of it's time, like all of his films. Brilliant.
