The Ruins: goriest horror ever, but great if you are bloodthirsty

This is the most freaky & gory horror ever. I don't usually get freaked-out by horror films, not even The Exorcist or The Shining, but this snapped my spine with terror (like something similar that happens in this film).
Its about a group of americans who get trapped at the top of a ruined old temple, they start dying off in freaky accidents. The freakiest, goriest bit isn't even a death, but something more along the lines of torture that happens to Stacy, look out for it.
I really recommend this film, its amazing if you are really bloodthirsty! Carter Smith rocks!!! And so does horror/thriller/gore!!! Woo!!!!

Don't have high expectations

It is quite simply a film about killer plants.

Simply 'OK'

I watched this one night when I couldn't get to sleep. Let's just say it managed to keep me up. It's an 'OK' movie with some very well-done scenes and impressive plot twists. It deviates from its source material to a large extent, but it still makes for a worth-while contemporary horror flick. Acting was ample and the climax (although somewhat prolonged) was very harrowing indeed. I'd give it 2.5 out of 5. It's worth a watch but I wouldn't buy it for this price...

The Ruins

The Ruins starts like many other horror film, teenagers enjoying a holiday and decide to explore unknown territory. They head to a ruin deep in the jungle of Mexico, they where enjoying the sight until enraged Mayan villagers surround the ruins, one of the group is shot and the rest are forced up the ruin. Unknown to them something in the ruins is a killer and the Mayan villagers are there to make sure they don't leave.
It is a very intense thriller when it gets going, the ruins themselves are stunning, the acting and cast are great and the story is good. There are scares in the dark and there are plants that grow underneath the skin. There are disturbing scenes and there is plenty of gore. It isn't a landmark horror, but a good entertaining film.

Go on and buy it, you know you want to!!!!!!

My dad told me about this and it just sounded like any old horror film, but when i saw it I was glued to the couch! Although it can be gory, it's really worth 5 star. As long as you love to be chilled to the bone, you will love this film to!!!

A good horror

I didn't have any great expectations when I began watching this film. The whole premise didn't really appeal to me before hand. However, I found The Ruins to be quite intense with some very good acting from the main characters. There were a few gory scenes that I watched between my fingers. I have discovered that I am quite squeamish after all.

Not bad

Bringing a twist to the horror genre is no bad thing, and it almost happens with The Ruins but not quite..
The build-up takes far too long, you wait for ages before anything 'happens' and when it does you feel a bit cheated. The trailer suggests that our adventurous and as usual aesthetically bland and wholesome twenty-somethings, find 'something' in the rainforest. It's a bit misleading, as there is no singular entity - rather the adversary they face is almost the 'Ruins' itself. There's a few 'grim' moments that are done actually quite well gore-wise but its too little payoff for the investment of ones time. Also the juxtaposition of heroic altruism in the face of survival chimes rather hollowly. Fair to poor. Watch Altered instead.

Dark and Twisted

First of all i'll start off by saying, you will either find this film disturbing or hilarious, It's how you interpret the events of this film that make it or break it.
In my opinion, i didn't expect much of it so i was pleasantly surprised to find that there was some method in the films madness, and madness is exactly what it becomes. It shares a similar structure to that of Hostel, by which i mean it starts off with an interesting teenage story line and gets darker and darker as the story goes along.
What it eventually becomes is a sinister tale of paranoia which really did get under my skin, the concept of it all is good but not completely original, it's more of a modern day B-movie, but if you have the capability to take the enemy seriously, which at times proves difficult, underneath you can find an enjoyable film that will root itself in your brain.

Tripe

No Structure, narrative or pace. No sympathy for the characters, despite some decent acting. I honestly feel like i've lost two hours out of my life that i'm not getting back! Please avoid this movie.

Intense

Just finished watching this movie. A lot of fun. Gory in places. Very intense. Great cast and acting, considering their pedigree. Effects excellent.
Could have done a bit more to be build the audiences' sympathy with the characters: one of the girls was taking photos
in a tense situation in which I would have shot her! Would recommend this movie neverless. Seen a lot worse.
