This is a phenomenal film with world class talent & performances. Ledger’s Joker steals the show here easily hands down. The effects, the makeup, the characterisation - everything is flawless about his performance. Somehow in the Jokers psychotic chaotic madness, he somehow manages to make you laugh.

He makes you believe that through this talent, acting & characterisation, the Joker is best summed up as: “some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn” - that character is exactly that because he plays it so damn well. Easily one of Ledger’s best role hands down.

Above I said 1/2 best Batman films ever - this is purely opinion only. Ledger’s Joker Pfeiffer’s Catwoman & Devito’s Penguin (not forgetting Hardy’s performance as Bane) are the some of the best villains brought to screen.

Ledger showed what an artist he was in this movie & he gave the world & Batman fans alike what they wanted… a world class played villain to entertain you with.

This has been my favourite movie ever for a long time and each time I watch it I’m like yeah you deserve that spot…

Christopher Nolan’s vision is not fully realised in this version as the filmed in IMAX scenes are not full screen (1.78:1) as they are on the physical Blu-Ray and 4K disks, instead the film maintains a full ‘scope’ format (2.39:1) throughout. As a result, the immersive magic of the IMAX scenes is completely lost – not sure why anyone would even try to wreck a film in this way.

What can I say? The films reputation is known as the best superhero movie of all time, and I agree fully. This film is a beautiful thrilling experience that a highly recommend to super hero fans. The film is made better by Heath Ledgers performance as Joker, there never was a scene that didn't have me interested.

5 stars for the film itself, but the IMAX scenes on the iTunes version are cropped and not how the director intended them to be shown.

One of my favourite movies, and it is a good bargain to put it in my iTunes collection after the 4K version released. However, unlike the Ultrahd Blu-ray, the iTunes version does not contain IMAX scenes, which is a pity.

This was a great film, i loved it. This is by far the best Batman film DC have ever made! I highly recommend this film because of the precision of the script and interesting plot. Anyone, but a fiction hater would love this film. I would describe this film with two words: `a masterpiece`

Best movie ever.

Asked for a refund on this, like all Nolan films on iTunes the IMAX scenes have been removed/cropped and image quality lessoned as to not ‘distract’ from the rest of the movie. If you have a giant 4K tele and care about quality; avoid the iTunes release and get your Nolan films on 4k Discs. Normally the difference between streaming and disc is negligible, not the case here or with other Nolan releases.

This is an incredible film, from the directing, to the acting, to the editing. After watching it again, it became my second favourite film of all time, right after ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.

The Dark Knight squashes every single Marvel movie ever. Completely perfect. Plot was clever and realistic, visuals were cool (even by todays standards) and cast performances were amazing.

But Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker blew me away. He really deserved his Oscar. Such a shame he overdosed before he was awarded it. The guy was incredible.

My guess is the only negative reviews are from disgruntled Marvel fans who thought Avengers: Infinity War was a masterpiece. Well nope, the true masterpiece of perfection is The Dark Knight, always was and always will be.

Love this film, and this is a beautiful presentation of it in 4K. However, I am really disappointed to see the variable aspect ratio excluded here. On the blu-ray we regularly switch between 2.35:1 and 1.78:1 (IMAX, essentially) when big, wide establishing or action shots are taking place. This has been removed here, and for that reason I would say you're still better off with the blu-ray as they have significant impact on the overall presentation.

I have like a lot of you been seduced by the 4K Apple TV and the upgrades from HD to 4K . Firstly unless you have enough broadband speed , which I have, the best you will achieve is HD and if you haven’t got these titles on Blu-ray, then these are a good purchase. As well as having the enjoyment of watching them on your iPhone or iPads or a Mac, but note, in HD only.

The average 4K film to purchase on disc is over £20 , so it very appealing, to see advertised 4K films here for under £7.

I am enjoying the 4K experience and have purchased a few from the store. But and this a big but, most 4K films here won’t upscale your existing Blu-rays and secondly most are in letterbox format . I have this film on a Blu-Ray disc , which picture covers the full screen and has already had a upscaling from my 4K Player.

So I suggest don’t go cheap and try to upscale your existing Blu-ray Discs or purchase here a new 4K film, over a new Blu-ray Disc of the same price , because you think it’s going to show a better picture and because it’s cheaper than buying a 4K disk.

I’ve learned my lesson and will happily upgrade some of my old dvds to these cheap 4K films, but in future if I want true 4K and no letter box, then I will bite the bullet and fork out the expense for the disc.

Beware before buying the digital download that the amazing IMAX scenes of this and Dark Knight Rises have been cropped down to letter box. Ruined the movie for me as the blu-rays are the original cinema version where the picture switches to full screen in high resolution when the IMAX camera was used.

Where are the 4K versions of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight? Only The Dark Knight Rises has the 4K version out of the trilogy. Very disappointing indeed!! Please sort this out ASAP!!!

This is possibly one of the rarest movies we’re the villain actually wins. The ending was very dark and eerie. I liked this movie. A bit complicating at times with the plot, but very intense and serious. Christian Bale is also such a great Batman and.Bruce Wayne. Honestly l, he is the best and Heath Ledger will always be the best joker. RIP!

l remember when i saw this in the cinema , i was blown away, i could not take my eyes off it and loved every second, Heath Ledgers performance was, well it was stunning and flawless. If you haven't seen this movie , see it now! It is BRILLIANT!

Why is it for money !!!!!!!!

Christopher Nolan has made the most realistic batman film, the best crime movie ever and an instant classic. May you think the dark knight would be all about batman and action. It's more than that. It is beautifully filmed, the acting is superb, the cast is brilliant and the story is great.

Heath ledger made one of the best performances of cinematic history! You will love every moment of the dark knight!

This is an amazing film probably one of the best movies of all time. It is a dark, action, thriller with outstanding performances from Heath ledger as the joker. I think that this is on my top 10 list of all time that's why it's a platinum rating.

Best thriller ever

The late great Heath Ledger delivered one of the most outstandingly DEMENTED acting performances of all time in this movie. I thought Jack Nicholson was the "king of the psychotics" until I saw Ledger in this this. A rush from start to finish, with brilliant performances across the whole cast, a great storyline full of twists and turns and explosive action sequences. I thought this couldn't be topped. But just wait until you've seen the TDKR finale. You're in for a TREAT.

Anyone else in the role of the joker would have been wrong. They couldn't have found someone more perfect for the role. Vastly different to anything Ledger has done before, proving what a hugely talented actor he was. Such a shame to say he is no longer with us. Think where this could have taken his career.

This film has got to be one of my all time favourites. Chris Nolan has an incredible mind. The ideas shown in his films are so complex, it's hard to believe that one person can have something so detailed in their mind. The performances are excellent, particularly by Heath Ledger, his death caused such a loss in the movie industry. Inception is another work of Nolan's that I would reccomend to anyone. ;)

The superhero genre will never be the same again. The Dark Knight is a true happening in the world of film; blessed with the right combination of people; director Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Prestige, Batman Begins) actors Christian Bale and Heath Ledger (the latter in an unforgettably anarchic recreation of the Joker) and soaring music from the legendary Hans Zimmer. Nolan continues his trend from Batman Begins of stripping away the campness of the comic books and transporting the key ingredients into the modern world. That's not to say this is not for the fans, merely that it transcends the genre of comic book movie into a far more vast, appealing film. Much of the film's success is claimed by Ledger who's performance is astounding. However the quality of the rest of the film does manage to keep up, from the grandness of the action sequences to the smaller but nuanced performances of Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman. It's still not quite perfect; Maggie Gyllenhaal seems rather bored by everything around her, and some of the script is decidedly corny (the scene where Harvey and Gordon speak over the Bat Signal in particular) but the film is still nothing less than a triumph. If you haven't already seen The Dark Knight, you are in for a treat.

A worthy follow-up to Batman Begins, the Dark Knight cements Batman's realistic revival. Heath Ledger puts in an Oscar-winning performance as The Joker. If you haven't seen this yet, you are missing out on THE film of 2008. Remember....Let's put a smile on that face!

We're reviewing this film for GCSE English and i honestly stereotyped this as a "boys film" but i'll now admit that the special effects are breathtaking, and the plot isn't the simple "Batman saves the town, the end" type either. It involves a lot of psychology and re-thinking to be able to guess the Jokers next move. I just wish i'd known how fab Batman films were, as i haven't seen the first one!

This film is fantastic, you don't necessarily need to watch the first one (Batman Begins) to understand it. It's very enjoyable to watch and although there is alot of stuff packed into it, it is definitely worth buying. This film is my favourite and it is one to watch over and over again.

Awesome film with an all star cast and Heath Ledger does a superb job of being the Joker!

Where to begin? It is an action packed, fast, clever.. the list is endless. The special effects and the graphics were great and really added to the whole atmosphere. The portrayal of The Joker by Heath Ledger was simple superb it was witty and maddening. But however i did think that christian bale's voice was a bit too low for the batman...

this is a fantastic film and portays batman darker and more graphic when compared to previous slightly comical batman films. what i want to say about apple is that i have this film on dvd and i want to know why i cant redeem it from itunes and put it on my ipod

Great film would reccomend it to anyone could have stopped halfway through and be a decent film but it had another hour which made it brilliant. Heath Ledger was good but you could hear his tongu moving which made me feel sick

This film really is a masterpiece. It is flawless in every way a film can be. I really think this is one of the greatest films ever made, its certainly the best film I have seen for many years.

Its sort of funny that a comic book superhero movie has been made into such an epic thing of dark beauty. I first saw this at the cinema, during the last few minutes when Gary Oldman makes that speach (there probably is a better word for that) and the music is swelling, my jaw dropped and I was completely awestruck by it. The music is so, so good.

Best Batman Film Ever!!!

yes great film,but apple are up to there old tricks again. you CAN`T burn on to dvd even just once,at this price i would like to be able to do so as i have to sit far to close to the monitor,and yes i wear NEW glasses.i will not be using itunes for video purchases anymore,maybe the odd rental.

Critics said this film was overrated due to Heath Ledger's death, but after watching it and trying to keep an open mind I found his performance as the Joker to be outstanding! This film was flawless, and even though it's close to 3 hours long, I enjoyed every minute of it. However I wouldn't download off iTunes as the quality will never be as good as buying it on DVD and watching it in your living room in the dark with the sound turned up to max :) If you don't see this, you're missing out!

Ok the film is expensive on itunes. BUT the whole idea of a review is to anakyse the film. And the film is nothin short of superb. All the cast are great and the music is awesome. The script is a work of art, with lines that pack you with emotion. This film is my vote for the best film of 2008 and maybe even best film of all time.

OK im only 14 but this was incredible.

The film is superb, but help me out here: £10.99 to download a copy to your i-pod. Am i being stupid here. Is it the full 6-7gb, or is it compressed for viewing on ipod.

heath ledger is the best actor i have ever seen!

This is by far my favorite film ever. Heath Ledger is at his best R.I.P. The storyline is great :D. Special Effects rock. I love the bit where he is dressed up as the nurse XD that made ame laugh soooo much. The only downside is Batmans voice, its really low i guess its 2 hide his idendtity but dont really see the point in that but im ratin this 5 stars COZ IT ROCKS

The dark knight has changed superheros movies forever by becoming a dark thiller with an excellent cast and a wonderful turn from the late Heath Ledger, who deserves an oscar for his sinister take on the Joker. Why so serious?

I went to see this with the view it wasn't up to the hype surrounding it, a few hours later I emerged from the cinema in awe of one of the best films i've seen. From the fantastic cast, the beautiful photography and a story that really shines. Christian Bale is perfectly cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Heath Ledger was just amazing as the Joker, a real scene stealer in every frame he was onscreen. Michael Caine is underused as he is a fantastic actor, same for Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox. It is a non stop rollercoaster ride from start to finish. This is one film that must be bought.

I've read some of the comments for this film; most of the ones I read however were the ones that stated that this film was any less than 5 stars.

The first one I came across had a bad review, not due to the film, but because of its price on iTunes, which is fair enough. Another said the film was good, the acting was phenomenal, but it wasn't really their thing and it was a little over hyped due to a dead star as the films lead villain. This again was fair enough, I didn't completely agree but at least this person had a reason for what they said.

Then there were a few misguided fools who say: "ALL acting was bad", "Action was boring" and most annoying of all "I didn't get it". Well let me tell you now, THIS FILM WAS FLAWLESS! PERIOD! Just take a look at the amount of reviews below, nearly every single one gives this film 5 stars, this is not just people being sheep and following what critics say, the film was amazing in every way. Okay I'll admit that the sonar vision was a little too much (but it was still cool) and Batmans' voice was a little too hoarse, but this didn't detract from the film at all.

Buy this film (not here it's best on blu-ray or DVD) because otherwise you've missed out on something really special. I saw this film in the IMAX cinema on navy pier in Chicago (where the film was made) when I went on holiday there, IT WAS THE BEST CINEMATIC EXPERIANCE I EVER HAD! You must form your own opinion though, I can accept that this film may not be to everyone’s taste, but you must still appreciate why everyone loves it so much.

According to statisticians we'll all be ditching this sort of movie over the next few months in favour of 'lighter' movies, with more 'feel-good' sentiment- because of the worldwide crash in the engines of economy, or 'credit-crunch'. Shame really, when I left the cinema after watching this film I felt, like I did after the 1st one, elated. Why I would need a romantic comedy to feel like this I don't know.

Indeed when you think about it, going to the cinema and paying £8 to £10 to see this movie isn't right economically speaking, when you pay the same to watch something truly rubbish... like a rom-com, or something adapted from a musical. This is movie watching. This certainly is movie making. Hats off to Christopher Nolan, who doesn't know how to make a bad movie. Makes a mockery of all other movies I've given 5 stars to really, bar ..Begins.

Through a wash of green filters we see a dark Gotham, we hear a dark symphony; a caterwhaul of discord whenever the Joker draws near like some cheeky vampire. Bale and Ledger move like the proverbial prize fighters throughout each set piece, with a little light relief thrown in from Two Face. This is movie laden with promise & demands.. and it ticks all the boxes as it goes and then some. Only one small thing which is not really worth worrying about, if I had to criticise: I understand the movie studios desire for a so-called 'love-interest', however audiences are not thick y'know. They can understand that some people might be motivated by something other than libido or saving the damsel. I'm not going to labour a point but the Anglo-Saxon bond between Batman & Joker serves well enough..

Great film, best so far of 2008 and the greatest comic book film

People have said to me that this film is over-rated because of Heath Ledgers death! However, this is not the case at all! I was completely mesmerized when watching the film & all the cast were brilliant in it! Now it is a shame for the person who has to become the new joker, because they will constantly be compared to the outstanding performance that Heath Ledger gave!!!

Its by far the best superhero movie I've seen in AGES especially after the 3hour shambles that they called Spiderman 3 was inflicted upon unsupecting audiences. Yes, the smarty pants people will point out that TDK is pushing 3 hours but that time flew by when I was watching it. I had to go back and see it all again making it the first movie I have ever been to the cinema twice to see, it was that good. I admit I was one of the sceptical ones who assumed it was way overhyped because of Heath Ledger's death but I did come out of the screening with a very different point of view. Ledger was fantastic. My only reservation was Batman's voice...he totally over did it. I know Bale takes pride in his method acting stuff but this was a little bit over the top still he turned in a very good performance although he was overshadowed by Ledger's Joker.

Now for the obligatory deconstruction supported with unconstructive analysis of iTunes' pricing policy...

I'm not going to bother, but I do know that Tesco, Amazon, Play.com will have this cheaper and with some little freebie seeing as it officially comes out on 8th December which is only a few weeks away from Crimbo (yay!). Plus, this is ELECTRONIC, they are not going to run out of it so why 'pre-order'?? I never understood that about iTunes... I don't understand a lot in my life but this is not the place to discuss that.

Why would i want to "pre order" this film from itunes?? It costs me more to buy than the shop, i don't get a physical copy, and you are not going to sell out of a download?

Just don't see how any sequel could live up to this. I fell in love with this film the first time I saw it. I had to be persuaded to go and see it and I can honestly say if I hadn't been that it would have been the biggest mistake ever. Heath Ledger's portrayal was without a shadow of a doubt, the finest example of a psychotic and dark Joker. No previous actor who did the character was this frightening and fascinating. A true work of art, I am sure you can answer how the campy days of Batman films look next to this. I would give this 10/5 stars if I could. :)

This film will stand the test of time and it emphasises how a superhero comic-adaptation should be done. Gone are the days of campiness and bad dialogue, leaving the audience with a moral and philosophical exploration of human nature itself. Heath Ledger's eerie take on the Joker will leave a poignancy appropriate to the tone of the film. I loved little details like the Joker's pit bull terriers which reflect his own mad dog tendencies. Anyhow, enjoy the film and you don't have to take it so seriously.
